I took my Auntie Nancy to lunch at Young’s Kalbee in Aiea. We were having a great time eating and talking about family matters and life in general. A young lady and young girl sat at the next table. When I went up to pay for our meal, the owner asked if I knew my fellow diner, to which I replied I didn’t. She relayed that the lady enjoyed our conversation so much that she wanted to pay for our lunch and left $20 with a “God bless you” and a smile face drawn on a napkin.

The other night my son and I were completing final chores at a house we recently moved from in Kaimuki. We were tired and hungry, so on the way home to our new address, I decided to stop for a sandwich at Subway on 11th Avenue. It was nearly 9 p.m., and the staff had already begun to put away the sandwich items.

While transferring money between credit unions, I dropped some cash (a large amount for me). When I retraced my steps, I couldn’t find it. I reported the missing money to University of Hawaii Federal Credit Union and Hawaiian Tel Federal Credit Union and went home, chalking it up as a loss and wondering how I would pay all of the month’s bills.
