`How Not To Give Foolishly

Don't Give to Organizations You Don't Know If you don't know anything about a charity, do some research first before you give. You're less likely to be scammed that way. Check out the charity's website, check out the charity through Charity Navigator or the Better Business Bureau, and ask friends and relatives what they think of the charity. Overall, it will give you a good picture of the cause and weed out the fakes and scam artists. If it's local, you might want to check out the local office or offer to volunteer instead.
Don't Give to Charities that Solicit You First I don't usually give to charities that solicit me first, unless they are well-known or I have donated in the past.
When Donating For Disaster Relief; Don't Give Immediately- Wait 6 Months It's tempting to donate right away in times of major disaster like 9/11 or the earthquake in Haiti, but chances are that most donors will have stopped giving by then and there will be just as much need at that time . I have donated immediately in the past, but no longer. Most scam artists will have moved on to something else by this time as well.
When Possible, Give Time instead of Money Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community without costing a lot of money. You and the clients and the charity will benefit in many measurable and unmeasurable ways. It's a great way to find out more about a charity and it also has several social benefits.
Don't Give To An Individual, Unless You Know and Trust Them Whatever their need is, be homeless or whatever, it is often better to direct the person to a local charity than to give them money personally.

From Free Rice to Child's Play, there are a lot of ways on the web that gamers can give back . Most of them free and others can cost anywhere from a few dollars to much more(depending on the donor's choice. ) ;

Free Rice

is mostly a vocabulary game that for every correct answer a user gives they win grains of rice for people in need through the World Food Programme.
Child's Play

is a charity that provides video games and equipment and other items to sick children in h select children's hospitals throughout the USA. Many avid gamers plan events online and off 12 months a year to raise funds. You can help this charity by money donations and by donating through their Amazon.com wish lists.

3. Iwon Team Challenge

is a site where registered gamers can use virtual coins that they win by playing certain Iwon games and searching the web. Users can join existing teams, such as mine for the National Inclusion Project, or create one if their favorite charity isn't listed. The teams with the most coins at the end of each month win up to 5,000 dollars for their charity.

4. Games That Give.Net combines gaming with corporate sponsors to raise funds for various charities. You choose the facebook games based on the charity that you choose, such as the Breast Cancer Site.

In fact, he just was arrested for protesting at the Sudan embassy in Washington, DC along with his father.This was not his first tie to stand up for Sudan as he had previously made a film about Sudan. Grab This! There are a lot of sad stories and charities that tug at your heartstrings and purse-strings, but a story featuring Ukraine Orphans with Down Syndrome being placed in a mental institution with adults at the ages of 4 and 5 really got to me. As much as I'd like to be able to adopt one of these children, I'm not at a place in my life where I can. There are lots of ways to help Reece's Rainbows Adoption Ministry help these children without adopting or giving money on their site, but if you are able there are contacts for that on their website as well. Reece's Rainbow has a page on Facebook, Twitter, and Blogger, too.

Honor Society, once a warm up act 2 years ago for The Jonas Brothers, is now joining the Salvation Army for the second time on the "Rock The Red Kettle" tour.
See the link above for more info on the tour. Not only are the band members of Honor Society helping rase awareness for the Salvation Army's Kettle Campaig, but the Salvation Army blog states that they frequently volunteer and make surprise visits at their centers. Volunteering at centers in your area, donating and buying items at the thrift stores, going to a concert on this tour, volunteering to ring a bell for donations or even setting up an online kettle are ways that you can help the Salvation Army help others in need. You can also donate to Salvation Army through my online kettle.

Creative Giving Challenge #3:An Extra Week-What Will You Do?

Occasionally a year will have 53 Weeks, but most have 52 to 52 and a half. I just looked at the calendar on my cell phone today and it listed 53 full weeks. Granted that the 53rd comes between Christmas and New Year's Eve, how will you spend your extra week? You could spend a few hours of the week volunteering at a local charity or have an extra week to send donations in in time for an IRS deduction. These are a few ideas. Most folks will be busy celebrating the holidays and entertaining friends and family- My challenge is not to spend the whole week volunteering or donating but at least a few hours or even 1 day of the week. We don't often get extra time, but here is one of the ways that we do. Remember that when I challenge you-I also challenge myself. So what will you do? I'm not sure what I will do yet. Please let me know in the comments.How have you done with the past 2 challenges/ Did you finish them? It's okay if you didn't do them on time- but these are projects to inspire you and me to give more. I didn't finish the last one. I've had a really bad cold for nearly a week- but I'm going to catch up when I'm feeling better.

In the latest episode of Extreme Home Makeover, the crew helps a family not only with a new home, but to take a stand against bullying. The Walker's son was a young bullying victim. They joined the movement "Stand Together" to fight against bullying. You can join the effort, too, by going to http://www.standtogether.tv/ . When you register, they will give you a number in a pdf file. Then you take a picture of yourself with your number and upload it to the site. Kids and others are bullied for a variety of reasons; size(being either larger or smaller than their peers), race, gender, sexual orientation, and other various reasons. Most experts say that the reason someone bullies another person is that it gives the bully a temporary feeling of being superior .

` If there is a nursing home, children's home, or a home for children with special needs, consider "adopting " them this season as a family, group or individual(not in a literal sense). Then, visit them and consider giving a small gift such as socks or something else(first check with the center as to what they are allowed to have)
If you are in a church choir, ask the choir director if the group can go caroling at a local nursing or children's home.
The Ronald McDonald House collects tabs from Coke cans. Consider saving those and dropping them by your local Ronald McDonald House when you have a substantial amount.
If you knit, crochet or do any type of sewing; there are charities in need of your skills; for abandoned babies, for US troops, and other charities
