Smartphone Security , Does it realy matter?

2011-05-08T02:03:00.000+01:00

one of this technology improvement smartphones made by Apple is the iphone 4 32gb.

The short answer is yes, absolutely, more and more. The degree to which it matters, however, depends on the individual user, or the individual company.

The security threats are not always easy to see. They range from the simple (such as when someone finds your phone and reads all of your e-mail) to the highly complex (such as Trojan horses, viruses, or third-party apps that share your personal information).

The security risks and tips, tricks on how to combat them are as follow:

Don't Lose Your Phone
This may seem like a no-brainer, but don't put your phone down on a bar (especially if you work for Apple and have a prototype that no one is supposed to see). If you're in a public area, don't put it in a pocket or an open bag where it's visible and could be grabbed easily. Obvious suggestions, sure, but these kinds of on-the-street situations account for most cases of phone theft.

Your First Line of Defense
Set your phone to lock, or time out, after a certain period of inactivity, requiring a password to get back in. All of the major smartphone operating systems support this function.

You'll want your password to be something hard for you to forget and easy to type since you'll enter it frequently throughout the day, yet difficult for someone else to guess. Anything containing your name, information found on a driver's license, or a number as simple as "1234," for example, are not good passwords.

Apple iPhone's Secret silicon

2009-05-11T00:52:00.000+01:00

The precise specifications for many iPhone chips are some what hidden. Should Apple be more open about its secret ingredients? We know the precise dimensions of the outside of the iPhone--but what's inside?

Granted, many people don't care about the silicon inside their iPhone. They just want it to work. That said, I think more than a few people would like to see the specifications for the iPhone's core silicon posted on Apple's Web site.

By comparison, take your typical laptop. Prospective buyers are able to see the exact specifications and make an informed buying decision. Though the iPhone isn't offered in different processor SKUs (models) like a laptop, the iPhone comes close to a PC in its capabilities and demands more disclosure.

Nikkei's TechOn website takes a stab at what the iPhone's main chip might be--generically referred to as an application(s) processor: "An LSI (large-scale integrated circuit) printed with Apple Inc.'s logo ("339S0036 ARM K4X1G163PC-DGC3") was embedded on the center right of the board. It was assumed to be an application processor with an ARM core. Because it included a letter string beginning with 'K,' it seemed to be manufactured by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. of Korea."

The point is: Am I getting a smartphone with a Samsung, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Freescale, Nvidia or Intel processor? As high-end smartphones proliferate (such as those based on Intel's upcoming "Moorestown" processor), it would be useful to know up front who makes the applications processor and other core silicon and what the rated performance-per-watt of that chip is. And right now, the iPhone is the most prominent high-end smartphone.

Don't think smartphone makers should go down the same path as laptops, which are plastered with Intel, AMD, ATI, Nvidia, and Microsoft stickers? Maybe not. But more about what makes the device tick could only be more helpful.

The Twitterriffic 2.0 - Twitter Terrific on iPhone

2009-05-08T13:54:00.000+01:00

Twitterriffic 2.0, the new version of the popular Twitter App for the iPhone, is now live in the iPhone App Store. We covered the release last week before it became officially available, posting a video and outlining the key features:

So what’s new in Twitterrific reviews 2.0? Multiple account support, filters for mentions, DMs, favorites, and marks (which are like personal favorites), trends, search by keyword, person, or location, saved searches, notes on users, retweet, conversations, custom shortcuts, the ability to follow/unfollow/block, expanded and condensed views, shrinkable text, and complete Twitter bios. Whoa, we’re out of breath just listing all that’s new, but we likey!

We’re particularly happy to see that key feature: retweets and the ability to use either the “via” or “RT” format to post these.

But how does it feel to use? As you can probably tell from that extensive list above, it’s incredibly feature-rich. That’s great, but it also makes the app a little more cluttered than previously. Personally I’m a fan, but others might seek sanctuary in the simplicity of Twitterrific rival Tweetie, which currently leads the pack (only Twitter.com and TweetDeck reviews have more users, says TwitStat).

So what about Tweetie? The undisputed leader among Twitter apps on the iPhone is likely to be the benchmark against which Twitterrific 2.0 is compared. And on features at least, we struggle to find any essentials missing from Twitterrific 2.0 that are already in Tweetie. There are some things it does better, too: The “Conversations Thread” view puts both sides of any TwitterTwitter reviews conversation on a single page. Another unique feature is somewhat less of a differentiator: you can “mark” a Tweet to come back to later, although it’s debatable whether this is a huge advantage over the already-included favorite feature.

AT&T to cut iPhone service plan by $10

2009-05-08T13:28:00.000+01:00

AT&T may slash the price of its iPhone service plan by $10 when a new version of the touchscreen smartphone is launched this summer, according to a story on TheStreet.com.

The article cited analyst Michael Cote of Cote Collaborative saying that there is a "strong possibility" that AT&T will drop the entry-level price of its service plan to $59 from $69. Apple is expected to unveil the latest iPone on June 8 during the company's World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

The price cut would likely help make the iPhone, which now retails for $200 with a two-year service plan with AT&T, more appealing to more mainstream customers. I've been saying for quite some time that the biggest hurdle to widescale adoption of the iPhone or any other smartphone in the mainstream market is the high price tag of the service contracts.

Consumers have shown that they are willing to pay anywhere between $100 and $200 for a sophisticated smartphone device. But the monthly service charge, which starts at $69 for the iPhone, is much harder to swallow.

It puts the real cost of the iPhone 3G over the life of the two-year contract at a whopping $1,856, which includes the price of the 8GB phone and 24 months of the most basic iPhone voice and data plan. It doesn't include the activation fee or taxes and other fees associated with the account. For subscribers who need more voice minutes or unlimited texting, the price tag is even higher.

Still, a $240 reduction in the overall cost of the phone over the life of the contract could entice some cost-conscious consumers.

AT&T and Apple have slashed the price of the iPhone twice already. The first version of the device introduced nearly two years ago was originally priced at $599 for the 8GB version. A couple months after the release, Apple reduced it to $399. When the new iPhone 3G was introduced, AT&T subsidized the cost of the phone and offered it for $199 with a two-year contract. The price cut likely helped the companies sell about 17 million iPhones last year, compared to about 4 million devices in 2007.

For the most part, Apple and AT&T have managed to keep the subsidy and sale price of the iPhone constant over the past year, while other carriers and smartphone makers have been forced to slash prices to attract customers.

Only a month after it hit the market, T-Mobile's G1 started selling for $148 from Wal-Mart. And three months after it launched the Storm, Verizon Wireless started offering a special buy-one-get-one free promotion that allowed customers who bought any BlackBerry device, including the Storm, to get another one free.

But as competition heats up in the smartphone market, AT&T and Apple could be forced to address the affordability issue to gain new customers. This is especially true as Research In Motion's consumer-focused BlackBerry Curve surpasses the iPhone in sales. And with the Palm Pre also set to launch in early June on Sprint Nextel's network, Apple and AT&T will face even more competition.

Review: PhotoFrame for iPhone

2009-05-03T01:30:00.000+01:00

In addition to the basic features you would find in other calendar-clock iPhone applications, the Photo Frame has a much better photo slideshow.
Naturally, the app provides six photos but allows you to choose up to 20 from your photo library. Images display at an interval of 5 to 120 seconds while you set the time. And if you get bored waiting for the next photo, you can tap the screen or shake the iPhone or iPod touch for an instant change. The app overrides the auto-lock setting on your mobile device, meaning your phone won’t go to sleep in the middle of your slideshow; that way, you can keep PhotoFrame running like a real digital photo frame while you charge your iPhone at your desk.
The time and date appear at the bottom of the slideshow image. You can choose a 12 or 24 hour time. PhotoFrame is compatible with any iPhone or iPod touch running the iPhone 2.1 software updatespan style="font-family:trebuchet ms;">>.

iPhone 3G Vs Nokia Xpress Music - Apple's iPhone Or Nokia's 5800 For Music?

2009-04-30T18:44:00.000+01:00

To start with Nokia 5800 can be proud of coming up with a touch screen phone and an express Music feature, while running on a Symbian S60 operating system with GPS. Whereas, iPhone 3G has an additional support of GPS and 3GHSDPA fast data. With an official SDK, iPhone 3G can be ran on the new version of software. Although it has the screen, camera, OS and memory similar to Nokia 5800, Nokia has features of 3.2-inch 640×360 pixels display, 3.2MP camera, WiFi and 3.5mm jack.
Physical Threats to Apple iPhone by Nokia 5800 Xpress Music If you consider only the outer shell, the Nokia 5800 express Music scores over Apple iPhone. Nokia 5800 boasts a slim striped texture that has withstanding power. Whereas, Apple iPhone which initially came up with metal, shifted to glossy plastic; anytime vulnerable to wearing, scratching and losing its charm.
Nokia 5800 is the shortest out of the two. The iPhone measures 115.5x62.1x12.3mm (133 g) against Nokia 5800 that measures 111x51.7x15.5mm (109 g), which is just 3 mm thicker. But, it is the Apple that wins on the assembling design and quality. As the result, the iPhone 3G is more sturdily built and gorgeous.
Memory Apple iPhone takes a backseat here, as the storage is limited to either 8 or 16 GB, going by its version as compared to Nokia 5800 model that has extendable memory up to 32 GB.
Package Nokia 5800 surely scores high as it comes with a desktop tripod, a travel case, a text input mediator device, an 8 GB memory card, a TV cable, a USB cable, a headset. Whereas, iPhone 3G is stuffed with a cradle, a USB cable, a primitive headset and a brand wiping cloth package.
Equipment and connections Apple iPhone is not provided with memory slot. It has a 3.5 mm audio jack and a firmware charger slot that can also be used for synchronization. But the Tube is equipped with the standard micro USB, 3.5 mm headset connectors and a memory card slot that ranks higher than iPhone.
Battery Life The Tube has won in this case with a massive standby time of 406 hours and talk time of 8.45 hours. Are you a music lover? Then you can listen to your favorite tracks on MP3 continuously for 35 hours. On the other hand the Apple has a standby of just 300 hours. However, it has a better talk time of 10 hours. It also offers 24 hours of continuous music at MP3 mode. You can very well guess for yourself which will be a better choice for you.
Camera Nokia 5800 utilizes a quality 3.2 MP as compared to Apple iPhone that is equipped with only a weak 2 Mp camera. Nokia has an auto-focusing camera having a potent flash and Carl Zeiss optics. This combination makes the camera one of the best that you can have on your handset.
Keeping many factors in mind along with the price (The tube is incomparably cheaper and unlocked to every service provider), the Nokia 5800 Express Music is quite a leader in many features when compared with the Apple iPhone.

How To Turn Your iPhone To The Ultimate Gadget

2009-04-21T16:19:00.000+01:00

Instead of stuffing your pockets with a collection of gadgetry, how would you like one single device that did everything? What if I told you that it did not matter what your situation was in life, a student, a housewife, a businessman, this device (if you could afford it), would work for YOU? Enter the Apple iPhone. The iPhone contains all you need within one sleek unit - a device considered to be an icon in mobile PC technology. A mobile phone with attitude and up to 8GB of memory.
You don't just get a beautiful looking piece of technology when you buy an iPhone, you also get access to many downloadable applications to extend its use even further. There are no buttons - no keys. It is all done on screen. A liquid crystal display provides for touch screen technology with an anti-scratch surface. Mobile technology literally at your fingertips.
So what can this lean machine do for you? What hides beneath? The iPhone is an entertainment system with film/video, games, internet surfing, it incorporates a camera and through personalization becomes the instrument to suit the user rather than the user having to adapt to use it. From a more businesslike perspective, it incorporates text messaging, email and visual voicemail. It's WiFi internet connection just needs a hotspot or GPRS and you are free to make full use of internet services.
Although in no way being negative about the versatility and productivity power of the iPhone, there are currently two distinct disadvantages in the design. One is with regard to the battery and the other to memory slots - or lack of them.
If the battery needs charging, you cannot simply use a charger into your wall socket. You have to send the entire iPhone back to Apple and (unless it is still under warranty) pay a fee to have it replaced and cover the postage. Apple are working on this, but at the time of writing, no official method is available. There are independent battery kit replacements but they involve a technical approach rather than just slotting another battery in or providing a way to recharge the existing one.
The other issue is that you cannot add memory. There are no slots to do so in the original iPhone.
With an almost eerie intelligence and without the use of GPS hardware, the iPhone is able to track its own location utilizing signals from mobile phone masts and WiFi networks. The later 3G model has A-GPS built in but still makes use of the same system only with more accuracy.
All in all, if you want more space in your pockets and still have the capability of your gadgets, an iPhone just might be your ideal purchase.

However, fans wanted to own the gadget so badly that they are looking at ways and means to unlock the iPhone.
Innovative software developers soon came up with the answer. A feature rich solution is up for sale on AutoiPhoneUnlocker's website. An iPhone owner can purchase a copy of the software for the mere price of just $29.99. To make its offer more attractive, the blossoming software company has even decided to bundle eight special bonuses together with the purchase. With the unlocking solution, customers can also download and install software, toolbar, and applications that will give them access to the content that they are looking for. There is no need to look elsewhere for third party applications.
Customers who have bought from AutoiPhoneUnlocker are giving positive reviews in community sites such as cell phone forums, blogs and other social networking sites. The reviews centered around two issues.
One, the software publisher offered prompt support. Whenever a customer has a problem with the software, emails are quickly replied. So far, the turnaround time appears to be less than 24 hours, which is pretty impressive.
Two, fans are happy because they receive so much for the small price that they had to pay for the software. Imagine paying just $29.99 for the software, and eight separate bonuses.
