French Designer Says He's Working With Apple on a Revolutionary Project

Renown French designer Philippe Starck says he has been working with Apple on a revolutionary project which will emerge in 8 months, reports HardMac.

The comments were made in an interview to France-Info radio and to the newspaper Le Figaro. Starck didn't reveal any more details; however, his statement will likely revive rumors of an Apple television.

HardMac suggests perhaps he has been working on a new remote:

If we had to bet, we would put our money on the revolutionary remote control that will be associated with the future Apple TV set. This is particularly in this area that innovation in design and ergonomic are needed, and Starck and his team are known for that.

Interestingly, Starck also reveals that he regularly met with Steve Jobs.

"For seven years I came to see him once a month in Palo Alto and elsewhere Monday I go there, because even though he is dead, now I will see his wife. We liked to talk all things interesting," he said.

Apple Flashback Malware Removal Includes Innovative Approach to Reducing Risk for Macs

PC World - Better late than never? Apple has released the third Java update in a week for Mac OS X, and this one contains the tool to remove the Flashback malware from infected systems. Beneath the belated fix to help users eradicate the threat, Apple has introduced a proactive approach to reducing security risk that other vendors should take note of.

This first couple Java updates already patched the underlying vulnerability. The latest version doesn't address any new vulnerabilities--it takes care of the destruction left in the wake of the vulnerabilities in the first place, and proactively reduces the exposure to risk for Mac users.

The latest Java update from Apple removes the known variants of the Flashback malware from infected Mac OS X systems. It also automatically disables Java if it has not been used during the previous 35 days. Once disabled, users have to manually re-enable Java in order for Java applets to run again. That means that malware attacks like Flashback would be unable to automatically execute and compromise Macs that don't regularly use Java.

In his Laws of Vulnerabilities blog, Qualys CTO Wolfgang Kandek appears to be impressed by Apple's innovative approach to minimizing risk. "This is exciting and to my knowledge nobody has done something like this before. It makes total sense to me: We have been telling users to disable or uninstall Java if they do not need it, but we know very well that only very security conscious users will do so."

It is a core tenet of computer and network security to disable or remove software and services that are not being used. Not doing so exposes the system to undue risk should a vulnerability be discovered and exploited against the unused tools and applications. Adding insult to injury, even when a flaw is discovered and announced, many users mistakenly believe the issue doesn't affect them because they're not actively using the tools. They'll ignore the patch and remain vulnerable.

What Apple has done with this update is to take the decision out of the user's hands--at least as it relates to Java. The OS will now monitor usage and simply disable Java if it is not used for an extended period of time. Other operating system platforms and software vendors may want to adopt a similar approach to automatically disable unused and unnecessary services to reduce exposure to attacks.

Kudos to Apple. It may be late to the game when it comes to helping users remove the Flashback malware from Mac OS X, but it has raised the bar for proactively protecting systems at the same time.

Yesterday Microsoft released Service Pack 2 for Office for Mac 2011. The most notable improvements in Service Pack 2 for Office for Mac 2011 is with Outlook, but even other applications such as Powerpoint have been optimized for OS X Lion (taking advantage of fullscreen functionality).

The more notable Outlook enhancements include:

• Displaying email message content, and sending email.
Outlook performance is also improved in IMAP account sync and the database rebuild utility. New capabilities include:
• Scheduling resources in the calendar,

Facebook rachète Instagram pour $1 milliard : à quoi s’attendre ?

Le lundi de Pâques faisait la joie des enfants, maintenant il fait aussi aussi le bonheur des développeurs. Facebook rachète Instagram pour la bagatelle d’un milliard de dollars, soit 1% de leur valorisation boursière estimée à 100 milliards de dollars. Il y a juste 4 jours, Instagram était estimée à 500 millions de dollars, inutile de dire que la sortie de leur application Android et les 5 nouveaux millions d’utilisateurs ont joué un rôle majeur dans ce rachat.

Mark Zuckerberg en a fait l’annonce hier. Facebook rachète donc la petite société et intègre ses 13 employés. La nouvelle n’est pas surprenante en soi, Instagram est un « petit » concurrent de Facebook avec seulement 30 millions de photographes amateurs, ce qui est surprenant c’est le cash sorti pour l’acquisition d’un service gratuit qui n’a encore jamais rien rapporté à Burbn depuis deux ans.

Qu’est-ce que cela implique ? Très peu de choses, du moins à court terme. On se doute qu’on verra rapidement dans les prochaines mises à jour une connexion automatique, voire obligatoire, à son compte Facebook. On verra aussi une option depuis Facebook pour prendre une photo avec Instagram et la publier sur sa timeline. Éventuellement, Instagram finira par disparaître pour être directement implémenté dans l’appli Facebook.

Étrangement, on voit sur les réseaux sociaux (hum, surtout Twitter) beaucoup de critiques et de plaintes envers Facebook ; alors qu’il faudrait être très content pour les employés d’Instagram. En seulement deux années ils ont su développer un excellent service qui se fait racheter à un prix exorbitant par le géant des réseaux sociaux. Que du bonheur. Après effectivement, on peut craindre pour l’avenir à long terme d’Instagram… Ou juste craindre une nouvelle bulle Internet.

Quid de l’application Hipstamatic qui a passé il y a deux semaines un partenariat avec Instagram. Hipstamatic va-t-elle aussi se faire racheter par Facebook ? Ou juste sombrer dans l’oubli petit à petit ? On espère la première hypothèse, avec une fusion Instagram/Hipstamatic, cette dernière possède les meilleurs filtres du marché. Si on veut aller encore plus loin dans les suppositions, on se souviendra que Steve Jobs voulait aussi révolutionner la photographie, mais là, ce serait vraiment se lancer dans des supputations osées…

iPad 3 Jailbreak… All You Necessitate To Know !!

The potential of the jailbreak sight seems to be wonderful. We observed in the most recent few days a high-quality development that has been done by iPhone hackers and developers in diverse ways. And now we are talking about iPad 3 jailbreak.

It has been verified by MuscleNerd that exploit which has been used 4 months ago to Jailbreak iPad 2 on iOS 4.3.3 using JailbreakMe 3.0 still does job even on iOS 5.1 (this exploit has been discovered by i0n1c, and that’s not mean that you could jailbreak 5.1 using JailbreakMe 3.0). What that mean, the iPhone Dev-team will be able to use it to jailbreak iPad 3 after getting the required kernel dumps.

The method used to jailbreak the iPad 2 4 months ago (before corona), we confirm that still works even in 5.1. It means we’ll at least be able to get our foot in the door to get the required kernel dumps on the iPad3. That’s an important step, but by no means is it the end of the story.

Stefan Esser, the German hacker (i0n1c), is also working on iPad 2 jailbreak which is also considered as a promising step in iPad 3 jailbreak. The day before yesterday, we showed you some screenshots that show his progress in iPad 2 jailbreak. The method is completely unrelated to the method mentioned above.

Those of you following @i0n1c may have noticed he’s already tweeted pictures of his iPad2 jailbroken at 5.1. As far as we know, he’s using a method completely unrelated to the one mentioned above. That would be great news!

iPad 3 has been shipped right now to Pod2g. He is working actively these days in finding vulnerabilities on iOS 5.1, any progress achieved will be good for both iPad 2 and iPad 3 Jailbreak.

Anonymous hacker, is working now in entirely different jailbreak method.

We’ve also seen bits and pieces of an entirely different jailbreak method being investigated by someone close to the Cydia repo scene.

All the above progress is related to the current iOS version (iOS 5.1). Apple may release newer version at anytime, consecuntley, Apple may close all the above hols. So if you wanna jailbreak iPad 3, don’t update your new iPad 3 past whatever iOS it comes shipped with.

It is still in a very preliminary progress, I mean the jailbreak iPad 3, just keep in mind that It’s not the sort of thing that can be developed overnight, and it’s impossible to predict how or when these things turn out, stay tuned.
