Do you find that transferring photos from your Mac to your Apple devices is a complicated affair involving USB cables and iTunes? Well, iOS users, things have gotten a bit easier for you thanks to a little app called Bump which allows users to share information (like photos and contacts) just by tapping their phones together. The creators behind the app are planning to bring a big update that will make it easier to move photos from mobile devices to any computer.

According to Bump’s CEO Mr. Dave Lieb, with the simple action of bumping your iOS device against the computer’s spacebar, all of your photo albums could easily be transferred to your mac. The company promised that the users won’t have to download any software programs on their computers, just simply bump your iPhone and your photos will appear on the Mac instantaneously.

David Lieb, the chief executive and founder of Bump Technologies, stated that the tool works within web browsers like Google’s Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. First, load the app on your iPhone, head to Bump’s website and select the photos you want to use, then bump your devices together. Mr. Lieb said this kind of solution will make it easy to take any group of photos of an event and quickly transfer them to a computer.

Once the users load their favorite photos to the Bump’s website, you will be presented with the options to create sharable links to your photos albums. You will also have the possibility to save your images directly to your computer’s hard drive.

Using an iOS devices as a music source for DJs is not a new idea, but there are a growing number of apps and hardware units that make it an ever better idea. The latest steps forward come from IK Multimedia with their iRig MIX mixer and companion iOS app, DJ Rig. The iRig MIX allows you to mix two audio sources together, DJ style, complete with faders, EQ controls and even an instrument input. In fact, the iRig iMix runs double duty as an instrument input or audio mixer for many of IK Multimedia’s iOS apps. It’s a useful piece of hardware for DJs and musicians alike.

The iRig MIX is basically the big brother to the original iRig, but instead of having a guitar input this guy has three audio inputs that can be used in various setups. You can use it simply as a guitar input to Amplitube for iOS, but it really shines as the centerpiece between two iOS devices running DJ Rig.

DJ Rig is IK Multimedia’s DJ app for iOS. It has pretty much all the standard features you’re looking for in a DJ app—adjustable EQ, adjustable playback speed, beat matching, scratching, looping etc.—but it also has some other features you might not have expected: adjustable effects, sound pads and more. The iRig MIX allows you to take full advantage of what this app has to offer. Thanks to the circuitry in the iRig MIX, you can sync up beats between two iOS devices attached to the MIX. That’s a pretty sweet feature and a huge plus for the MIX. But DJ Rig is a pretty useful app all on its own. You can do a whole lot with just a single iOS device running DJ Rig since it has its own virtual mixer that can handle two decks.

But sometimes you just can’t beat having real faders and knobs. In that case, you’ll need an iRig MIX. The MIX has all of the standards for a DJ mixer: gain, EQ, and volume for each deck, along with a crossfader. There’s a standard headphone input for each deck, an extra instrument input, an RCA output and a headphone output. Then there are the unique controls, like the X-Sync switch and the Input selector. The X-Sync switch allows you to control the ability to cross sync between iOS devices. This is the switch that makes it easy to keep the beat between songs, between devices. The Input selector allows you to apply all controls to either two devices or a single device hooked into one side. The latter assumes you’re okay with mono audio, since it can only do so much with its cable limitations.

All of the switches, knobs and faders feel pretty decent. The case isn’t made of metal, so I wouldn’t be too hard on it, but it’s definitely a solid piece of equipment.

There are only a couple of potential issues I see with the iRig MIX. First, it’s an analog device. You won’t get the absolute best audio quality possible with this setup. That’s not to say the audio quality here is bad—for most of us, it’s really not that big of a deal or likely not even noticeable—but it’s worth mentioning since the iRig MIX doesn’t connect to your iOS device digitally. That said, it is more versatile in that you can plug just about any standard audio source into its audio inputs, and it’s likely not nearly as expensive as if it were digital. You win some, you lose some.

But my bigger issue with this device is that there’s no battery compartment. While you can power the iRig MIX via batteries, by default, it gets power from the included AC adapter. On one end of that AC adapter is a micro USB connector. If you happen to have or are willing to buy another USB cable to connect to a USB battery, you can power the iRig MIX via batteries. I just think that’s unnecessarily complicated. For a device that’s meant to be portable, it would have been really nice to have a built in battery or battery compartment. The power supply even could have been a USB AC adapter with the proper cable. Thankfully, neither one of the problems is a show stopper. You can still be mobile, you just need a USB battery an the proper cable if you want to do that.

Overall, the iRig MIX is a great piece of hardware for DJs and musicians alike. You can mix audio on a single iOS device with hardware controls, mix between two iOS devices or even use it as an instrument input for apps such as Amplitube. Spacetime Studios has found legends in our pockets, the stars, and the dark, and this time they’re going to get a little more arcane. The mobile global MMO developer has announced that the “intense cross-platform, multiplayer combat” of Arcane Legends for iOS, Android and Chrome will be release in early fall of 2012.

Gamers will choose to be a powerful warrior, devious rogue or mysterious sorcerer, then form parties to combine their abilities and unlock devastating combo attacks. Skills can be acquired and leveled up to customize your character to your unique playing style.

The core of Arcane Legends is the groundbreaking combat system that will deliver the most fast-paced, action-oriented co-op and player-vs-player gameplay of any Legends title. Players will decide whether to use multiple quick attacks or take the time to charge up and land more destructive strikes. Determining when to utilize a fully charged “rage meter” that unleashes special high-powered attacks unique to each class will also be critical to success.

LaCie has long been known for professional-grade products (with pricetags to match). Their lineup has included professional CRT and LCD monitors with precise color calibration systems, some of the very first high-speed drives using Apple’s FireWire and Thunderbolt ports, and a stunning array of network-attached storage and RAID options for professional users who demand speed. Not content to offer just pro-grade gear, LaCie has also injected style into their products, featuring drive enclosures designed by the likes of Porsche, designed to look like Lego bricks, and even some of the first ruggedized, bus-powered FireWire drives back when Apple first announced the standard.

Seagate, meanwhile, has been pursuing more technical goals, becoming the first manufacturer to ship a 1TB per-disk hard drive (not total capacity, mind you, but 1 TB squeezed onto a single platter), and also holding the distinction of shipping the world’s thinnest 2.5″ laptop hard drive (crucial for the ever-shrinking world of MacBook Air clones). According to the press release, Seagate sees value in the LaCie acquisition primarily through the addition of premium consumer storage, like LaCie’s beautifully-designed Starck Mobile drive, as well as well as through the acquisition of LaCie’s excellent software products, which include automatic backup software that approaches Time Machine for elegance, and sophisticated NAS software solutions.

Most recently, LaCie has been one of the first adopters of the new Thunderbolt connection standard, offering the first TB-equipped RAID solution. As with FireWire, Apple’s new standard suffers from the fatal combination of an abundance of speed, lofty pricetag, and relative dearth of options compared to the fast-enough USB standard.

In statement announced with the press release, LaCie CEO Spruch said, “….[the merger creates] significant scale and open[s] up new markets. We look forward to making the resources of a much larger company available to our customers around the world.”.

Here is to hoping this scale helps make blazing fast Thunderbolt accessories available at a decent price!

The Fieldrunners sequel will be given twenty brand new levels and twenty towers, including new “Link,” “Nuke,” and “Railgun” towers. Two new game modes and puzzle and sudden death maps will also be introduced, and Subatomic Studios will likely release more information on these new features (as well as potential others) closer to release.

Exact dates for release on both iPhone/iPod touch and iPad have not been set, but the end of June is the word for the iPhone/iPod touch version right now.

Peter Hauser evidentially agrees with me, which is why he’s designed the cookoo, a Bluetooth-enabled watch that integrates with your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android phone to send you notifications. Using a user-controlled notification app, you can tell it to beep when you have a call, a text/email/Facebook message, and other events. The video also claims you’ll be able to use the watch’s interface to update things like Foursquare with your location.The project is looking to raise $150,000 in the next 45 days. The first 250 backers at the $50 level get a first edition cookoo (which will retail for $99), and there’s an unlimited version available for $80, along with more expensive limited editions.

If you’re unfamiliar with Kickstarter, a crowdsourced fundraising site, it works like this; you decide if you want to fund a product, and choose your backer level and dollar amount. If the product reaches its funding goal, you pay that price. If the project doesn’t meet its minimum goal, you pay nothing.
