Generally these types of cards are used to transfer high interest debt to low interest debt, and in that way, pay off the debt a lot faster, instead of paying the continual interest.

Some credit cards do offer 0% on new purchases or even cash advances. One must always be wary of the terms and conditions of any credit card offer you take on. Sometimes a person may apply for a specific card and be issued such card without realizing that it offers 0% interest on balance transfers only, and then they experience the problem of paying back the interest with the debt .

There are cases where people have been issued a credit card that offered 0% interest on balance transfers, and when they made the transfer, they had a large sum of money to be paid. This is why it is vital to read the terms and conditions before you sign and check them out again once you receive the card.

In today’s society it is very easily to live off credit, but very difficult to get rid of the outstanding debt. Often the debt we have is held at a very high interest rate which means that each month we are continually paying back loads of interest and very little of the debt gets paid off. The one solution to this problem is to opt for a 0% credit card.

It is of utmost importance that you realize that these cards offer 0% interest on balance transfers, or new purchases, or cash advances, but rarely all three. There are people who have been caught out by this and have made new purchases under the assumption that they would also be at 0% interest. It is hard to learn things the hard way. I cannot stress this more, read the terms and conditions!

The 0% interest introductory period is exactly that, meaning that for a certain period of time, you will either pay 0% interest on your balance transfer, new purchases, or a cash advance. Generally this period is between 6 and 12 months. There are some credit card companies that offer 0% only for 3 to 6 months, while others offer it up to 15 months. It often depends on your credit score. For example, if you have a poor credit score because you are unable to make payments on time each month, chances are you will not qualify for 0% interest for 12 months. It may be a shorter period of time, or maybe the interest you get is higher than 0%.

A point to note when looking for 0% credit cards is that you need to check on a number of things in the offer. Firstly, how long is the 0% interest period going to last, and what is the APR (annual percentage rate) once that period is over? Also check out what the annual card fee is. If you are going for 0% interest, then you should try to get a card that offers no annual fee. Another thing to remember is that if you make a late payment, the benefits you enjoy of the card (0% interest), will fall away immediately, and you’ll be charged a hefty interest rate.

People are often sceptical about taking on a new credit card when they have outstanding debt, but if you want to pay off the debt much faster, then 0% credit cards are definitely the way to go. Another reason for taking on such a card is to use it for a cash advance, which you then pay back at 0%. Obviously there is also the “need” people have for making new purchases.

If you are going to use your new credit card for a balance transfer, then use it just for that. Don’t make new purchases! You will only get yourself caught up in more debt.

People seem to have the wrong idea about credit cards. They can be good, if used in the right way. All too often we use them to live off the credit they offer. We need to be careful with our money and use credit cards wisely. Managing finances is not always easy, but a little bit of restraint and diligence is all that is needed.

One should look at your personal needs when looking for best rated credit cards, simply because your needs will change from time to time. This moment you might be looking for the lowest APR so that you can save money on those high interest bills. Then again you might be a thriving business person and needs to travel a lot, so a rewards program might be of huge importance. I have narrowed the specific fields down to the following:

Lowest APR Cards:

You will only stand to gain if you have a low APR. I mean you could save hundreds of dollars a year just by have a lower APR. But how does one get a lower APR? Well there is two ways; the first is by going to your current credit company. Asking them for a better APR since you have been such a loyal customer and you have been paying back on time all the time, then there is looking for another company and getting their balance transfer options and fees. That is where you start to do the calculations. You will need to ask some questions first, how long is the introduction APR for? What will the APR be after the introductory period ends? Is there a balance transfer fee? Now you have those questions answered you should have your lowest APR credit card. Sometimes it will not be the lowest APR around. For the simple reason being card companies add and take away options of certain key features, and balance transfer option is the one where they like to catch people. Low APR but charge a balance transfer fee or Low APR for 6 months then it goes up to double digit APR. Well luckily for you I have searched high and low and found these cards of interest, these will be my best rated cards.

Pulaski Bank Gold Visa

Pulaski Bank Visa

IBERIABANK Visa Classic

No Annual Fee:

Why should you pay for cards? I mean the interest they charge can sometimes be ridiculous. None the less they charge. So if you feel like doing away with that charge I have searched high and low once again for the best rated credit cards. Some of them might even come with a low APR which is a serious benefit, here is the list below:

Bank of America WorldPoints Platinum Plus Visa

Bank FIRST Wired Plastic Prepaid Visa

IBERIABANK Visa Platinum

First National Bank of Omaha College Visa

Instant Approval Card:

These cards do not require security deposit and there are no annual fees as well. This can save you money in the long run, I recommend the following:

Palm Desert National Bank AccountNow Prepaid Visa

I hope this clears up all your questions! There is just one more thing that you need to remember that your FICO score plays a role in your APR and on which card you can apply. So remember that before applying for the best rated credit cards. It is easy to do a credit card application online, don’t worry it is safe and fast. You could have a response in as little as 60 seconds.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, especially through experience. The following article merely suggests ways in which you can check to see if your teenager would cope with a credit card and not overspend.

Firstly your teenager should at least have been making use of a bank account of some sort. There are savings accounts and then check accounts where you have a debit card. Some banks will issue teenagers check accounts easily while others won’t. You will have to check out the different options available. With a check account your teenager can learn how to write checks, balance his/her check book each month, and keep his/her check register up to date.

Before opening a regular credit card for your teenager, it would be advisable to open a prepaid credit card first. This card works a little differently to a credit card in that it does not have revolving credit. You deposit money into the account and then purchases can be made with the card, where the money comes off the balance in the account. You do not have to worry about your teenager overspending. The good thing about this type of card is that unlike the a debit card, it actually does help your teenager’s credit history. Make sure to choose the card that has a credit-builder program linked to it. You pay a little fee at the end of the month, which is reported to the credit bureau, thus raising your teenager’s credit score.

If you make an agreement with your teenager and tell him/her that the money in that account is for emergencies only, you can check in a few weeks if there is any money left. If your child has spent all the money, then you know that he/she is not ready for any type of credit. However, if there is still a fair amount of money available on the card, then your child may be ready for another test.

Some say you could add your teenager on one of your existing credit cards that has low or even no revolving credit to see how he/she would manage spending on it. The nice thing about both of these options is that your child actually has no real credit to work with, and won’t damage your credit history either. One of the problems with adding your teenager on one of your credit cards is that he/she may be irresponsible can cause a lot of debt that you have to pay off and it will definitely damage your credit score. If your teenager has shown that he/she can manage finances, then there is the possibility of you giving them their own credit card.

If your child is of the working-age, you can look into a student credit card or possibly, a secured credit card. The latest credit cards aimed specifically at teenagers have no annual card fee, but have a fairly high APR (annual percent rate) of 19,8% that is fixed. With these cards, the credit limit can be as low as $300 or as high as $1000. For teenagers it would be preferable for a low credit limit, in case problems do arise. As a parent, you will have to co-sign for the card. Your child will receive the monthly statement, but it will ultimately be you that is responsible for the payments.

You could also get your child to write a check to deposit into the account, instead of you. In this way, your child will learn more and benefit more from the credit system. Be aware of your child’s spending habits. Not everyone can manage a credit card. If the credit limit on your teenager’s credit card is relatively low and something goes wrong, a learning experience should emanate. Your teenager can see learn overspending affects minimum payments and paying off interest. Rather let your child make a mistake when it won’t affect their credit score as you’ll be sorting out the account, rather than have problems occur when your child is an adult and sit with bad debt.

Teach your child how to manage his/her money effectively, but showing him/her the ropes. Your financial habits will affect your child’s financial habits. Make the right choice for your child.

Everyone is sending you all these amazing credit card offers. But you have no idea which one is for you, and then you hear one person tell you this credit card from “Bank of America” beats everyone hands down, and then you have another person tell you that “Citibank” is the best. Well both people might have valid reasons for them telling you why they rate them the way they do. The one thing you have to remember is everyone has different needs, so I am going to give you a check list you need to go through. Then you can decide which credit card you need and want to have.

The notion of the credit card was first introduced to the world by novelist Edward Bellamy in 1887. In his novel, Looking Backward, he mentions this concept where each person had a credit card that was used to make purchases.

It was however, first used as a way of selling gas to an ever-increasing number of vehicle owners in the United States of America in the 1920’s. These cards were initially known as charge cards and in time various companies allowed the use of different cards. In the early days it was quite easy to falsify a credit card, as a number of these cards were printed onto a type of card, and not plastic like they are today.

During the 1930’s and 1940’s another form of the credit card occurred. It was known as the Charga-Plate and was made of a fairly small piece of metal, which had the owner’s name, city of residence, and the state in which that person lived imprinted into it. It also contained a small piece of card for a signature. Only the large retailers made use of these, and they were only issued to their everyday clients. Most often, the Charga-Plates were kept at the store.

In 1950 Ralph Schneider and Frank X. McNamara founded Diners Club. This allowed people to use one card instead of many. The difference between modern credit cards and the Diners Club card is that the Diners Club card had to be paid in full each and every month. No credit as such existed then.

The next card to come along was Carte Blanche and then American Express in 1958. American Express led to the creation of a global credit card system. The Visa system also came into existence in 1958 via Bank of America’s BankAmericard. MasterCard came into the world in 1966 when it was first known as MasterCharge.

Due to the specific banking system in the United States of America, credit card usage began to soar, as travellers around the country were able to take their credit with them as they went, as they could not make immediate use of their own banks.

From there, the U.K. has their first credit card released in 1966. Many other countries did not take to the credit card system due to various reasons such as bank reliability, or in some instances people preferred using cash.

In more recent years there has been the development of using microchips in built into the credit cards in order to limit credit card fraud. There has also been the establishment of Affinity cards where cards are linked to certain features and a specific group or company benefits be means of it.

Generally, the more money you earn, combined with the amount of spending done on a credit card allows for a higher credit limit.

You see the most obvious reward to have is a cash back credit card, then there is not grey area that you have so many points but cannot use your air miles or that your gift certificate can only be redeemed at a specific store. So Cash back is always king in my eyes anyway. Forget the points and air miles I mean it. If you can spend earn cash back and actually decrease you payment to the credit card at the end of each month what a pleasure. But sadly not many credit cards offer that choice. They would rather send you a check but all the trouble in the end of clearing a check would not stop me from getting and using my cash back credit card.

Another way that Cash Back credit card is king is for the simple reason is that it is simple. How can the credit card companies make it more confusing they can’t. I mean it they can do it with air miles only limiting you when you can fly or you have to reach a certain number of points before you can fly. So they have the power to change it to suite them, but with cash it is simple spend money on the card and earn 5% cash back. Ok the only catch that there might be is that they only limit it to certain purchases. But at least you will know this before you make a purchase. They tell you 5% on all your gas purchases but only 1% on your drug store and groceries purchases. So at least you know that not like air miles where the rules will change from time to time and unknown to you. There is another catch I have seen credit card companies use now with the cash back credit card, and that is they limit the 5% cash back reward to a certain period like 3 months or a year. So be on the lookout for those credit cards, if you are not sure ask the question until you get the answer you want. They tend to tell you in an advert that they offer you 5% cash back, just be careful because it might be the credit card that is the top of all the credit cards they are offering. They tend to put a higher APR% on these type of cards otherwise you know the credit card company does not make any money, shame poor them. Then the one benefit that kills me and I do not understand why they limit it, but they do for instance you can only claim $2,000 per year for example and if you reached that in 6 months well unlucky for you. The rest of the year the credit card company smiles and you don’t.

Ok enough doom and gloom, let me give you some tips on how to get the most of your Cash Back Credit Card. Why not put your household expenses on your cash back credit card like cable, phone, electricity. Remember to choose a cash back credit card that you are going to make use of, like maybe your favourite clothing shop and the gas station you use a lot. Have your wife on a secondary card so that you can maximised the cash back reward when both of you spend.

What is a low credit card rate? Well some people will tell you 0% but there is always a trade off between rates and other fees. Please be aware of that, since credit card companies are there to make a profit. Not there to worry if you cannot make your monthly payments.

So if they offer you a 0% APR or interest rate it is usually just for a brief period of time. When the 0% APR time period is over, I promise you it will be between 8% and 24%. The factors that determine your APR will be your credit score (FICO) in the end. So if the rate is low it will be easier for you to pay off your credit card debt, the higher it is the longer it will take.

So why not ask for a fixed rate? This will again vary from each credit card company to next credit card company. But if you ask them I am sure they will be willing to give you a fixed interest rate. But just be aware if they give you something they will want something in return. Remember to read the fine print before signing off on the fixed interest rate. Maybe the solution would be to ask for a lower variable interest rate!

Credit Card companies will offer you a low interest rate but their other fees might be a lot higher than anyone else. So it will make sense for one to compare the whole credit card package not just the low rate credit card. Let me give you an example; you already have a credit card with a outstanding balance of $2 000 you see that a specific credit card company are offering a 0% APR for 12 months. You think great deal as you start to apply they make you aware that they will charge you 3% for balance transfer and your APR after 12 months will be 9,5%. Now what you will need to work out is that will that 3% balance transfer fee be worth it? Also what is your current credit card APR %, will you save enough money to pay off your debt in 12 months even with the costs incurred? If you have done the calculation and you could pay off your credit card debt in the 12 months even with the 3% balance transfer fee. Then by all means do it. But if you cannot then I suggest heading back to your current credit card company and asking them for a lower APR %. Sometimes you will need to think things through very carefully, before swopping credit card companies. For the mere fact that they offered a low rate credit card offer that was too good to be true.

Gas credit cards are an easy way to control your monthly gas purchases. There are so many options to choose from that you might become a little dizzy trying to choose one.
But I would like to recommend you join a gas rewards program so that you can save while you spend, I know it sounds silly but it is true and I will explain how you can do just that, SAVE!

Firstly if gas prices have been breaking your budget, if you switch over to a cash back rewards plan you could save between 2% to 5% on all your gas purchases at your favorite gas station, this could save you some real money and the end of each month. If you choose a branded gas company card they charge you a higher interest rate than if you choose a major Credit Card Company. Also be aware that brand specific cards from gas companies will only offer rewards at that specific gas branded stations. These cards are very limiting since you might not get the lowest price on gas.

Secondly Cash back rewards and rebates, make sure you choose a Credit Card that gives you rebates and rewards on all your purchases including groceries, hardware purchases and even movie tickets. But remember you will not get the same percentage reward as you would get for Gas, for all other purchases they only offer 1% rebate or cash back. They usually pay it back into your credit card or send you a check.

Thirdly some Gas Credit Cards offer you a combination of rewards such as Travel and Gas. They say something along the lines like this, for every $1 spent on Gas they give you back 3 miles for Air travel and for every other $1 spent on normal purchases equal to 1 mile. Yet this reward system might not benefit everyone but for those who drive and fly a lot this might be the card you need.

Now these Gas Rewards systems I have explained usually benefits consumers who pay off their outstanding credit card balances at the end of each month. Because if you think about it logically you will reap the benefits from having the correct Gas rewards card. Also make sure you choose a Credit Card with no annual fee. This is the long run can save you lots of money even if it seems very little right in the beginning.

So all these Credit Card Gas rewards programs can only be accessed if your credit score is intact, meaning that you do not have bad credit. It might also be you have no credit history. But you could choose the unsecured credit card if you have a bad credit score. There are nearly always ways of getting a credit card even with a bad credit score. Just might mean you do not get all the benefits if your credit score is good. If you need to know your credit Score I suggest you go to the following web site and check it out, also it is free for the first month TrueCredit by TransUnion

At the age of eighteen, you’re now legally adult enough to vote and to have a credit card. However, spending the money is generally a lot easier than paying the debt back. It’s not always easy, so make sure you apply only for one credit card as you don’t need several and it becomes difficult to manage more than one credit card at a time. It is also difficult to be approved for a credit card if you have no credit history.

Ways to improve your chances as being approved:

Student credit cards. Credit card companies often target college students, making it easier for them to be approved for a credit card. Be careful though as these companies will probably try to hound you to apply for more credit cards, making it that much more difficult to manage your finances.

Try the bank that you already bank with. It is very time-consuming applying for a credit card through a number of different banks. If you already have a saving or checking account with a specific bank, your existing relationship improves your chances of being approved of a credit card, as long as you’ve been a responsible client in the past.

A department store or gas credit card. Some companies like department stores and gas companies approve credit cards a lot easier than a typical bank, which can make applying for your first credit card a lot simpler. The problem with this is that these companies often have a very high interest rate, so if you’ve spent money that you don’t have via your credit card, you’re going to pay back much more than on a regular credit card.

A secured credit card. There is another option and this is the secured credit card. Here you will have to pay a deposit into the credit card equal to the limit amount. Then you can start using it as a credit card. If you can’t make your monthly payment, then the bank will take this deposit.

Some things to think about if you want to apply for your first credit card:

Do you have a permanent job with a fixed monthly salary? You’ll need this to be able to pay back the credit card if you use it, and it is a requirement from the credit card company’s side. Unless you’re a college student where your parents or guardian will be in charge of your credit card.

Do you think you’ll be able to not spend more than the limit? Will you be able to make the monthly payments on time? If you can’t make your payments on time each month your credit c\rating will drop and the interest you are charged will probably increase.

What is the main reason behind wanting a credit card? Some people use the credit card wisely; in a way they can improve their credit rating. If you want a loan from the bank to buy a house you need a good credit rating. Do you want to be able to spend randomly whenever you want, or do you want the convenience of having credit?

Various credit card terms you should know:

Annual Percentage Rate (APR)- This measures the yearly cost of credit. It takes into consideration the interest rate, service charges, loan fees, and so on. It would be a good idea to look at different credit cards and compare their APR to determine a good offer. The lower the APR, the lower the credit cost.

Annual Fees- A number of credit card companies charge a yearly fee whether you have spent on your credit card or not. Some companies don’t charge any yearly fees at all. If the credit card company does not charge a yearly fee, then the APR is generally higher. You should always check whether or not the credit card option you are choosing has a yearly fee or not and also what the APR is.

Grace Periods- Some credit card companies offer 21 – 30 days grace whereby you have that amount of time before you need to start paying back what you’ve spent. Some credit card companies however, don’t offer any amount of grace and you’ll have to start paying back what you’ve spent straight away until you’ve finished paying off the outstanding amount.

Other Fees- Make to sure to be aware of the smaller fees that you can be charged. For example, how much will the credit card company charge you if you make a late payment? How much will you be charged if you spend more than your limit on your credit card? Often it is the smaller costs that add up to what we cannot afford to pay.

Make sure you never exceed your credit limit and ensure that you can always pay back your debt.
