Well, maybe not always the why, but you can get all the news you need to know right on your iPhone with AP mobile news.  Type in your zip code and you can even get local and state news at your fingertips.  News articles, videos and pictures are all available on this easily navigated app.  Sound like a commercial?  I like this app because it’s easy to use, I don’t like this app because you pretty much always need wi-fi to connect and get updated news.  It doesn’t work well on the Edge network, I’m going to guess that it’s not so bad on 3G.  Since I’ve not upgraded to a 3G yet, this app isn’t that great for me.  I can easily recommend it to those that are often at a hotspot and those that actually have 3G in their area.  However, if you still have a first generation iPhone like myself or aren’t always within 3G reach, I can’t really recommend it.

Yesterday, Myspace launched their app for the T-Mobile G1 Android.  You can check band tour dates, search and add new friends, upload photos, view comments and bulletins, and update your status and mood.  Nothing revolutionary.  It seems to be almost the same as the iPhone App with one little exception.  Shazam, the music recognition software, is integrated into the Myspace app. 

In my area, we currently don’t have T-Mobile and that upsets me a little; AT&T doesn’t have any real competition around here.  I’d like to try out the G1 and play with some of these apps for myself.  My buddy Anthony would love to get his hands on a G1.  Here at Appruv, we’d love to review these babies along with the cool iPhone apps that we “appruv”.

I love free apps.  I like the pay apps as well, but there’s just something about the free ones.  Well, first of all they’re free and that makes me happy.  I’ve found some that are nothing but flash without substance, mostly advertisements.  A friend introduced me to an application yesterday called Facts.  I love those Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader books that you can pick up at any book store.  There’s all kinds of random facts about people, science, old laws, among many other things. 

Facts is just that; full of all kinds of random facts that will brighten even the foggiest of days.  The very first one that popped up under people yesterday was that women blink twice as many times a day as men do.  I find that both hilarious and interesting.  To top everything off with this app is that it has thousands of these things ranging from history to superstitions.  There’s only one small thing that bothers me with it.  The pictures at the top of each fact is random and repeats a lot.  All the facts are different, so this is just a minor issue. 

You have nothing to lose, except that it’s free only for a limited time.  I’m sure that with each update, the facts will be renewed or new ones will be added.  I recommend this app to everyone!

The planets have aligned and everything in the world is absolutely wonderful!  As far as I’m concerned this is one of the greatest things to happen to the world… of iPhone Apps!  You realize that my huge, ranting exaggeration came from my revisit to childhood.  I can remember wasting time with a new MadLibs in my school classes with friends, and then later doing them after a few drinks.  I hadn’t completed a MadLibs in a long time, then about a year ago when my niece brought one home from her book fair at school.  I lost my mind on that thing.  She laughed over and over at some of the silly nouns and adjectives that we used.  As a matter of fact, I believe that MadLibs helped me with writing later in life.  I try to find the most ridiculous adjectives, adverbs, nouns, verbs, etc. that I possibly can. 

This one is free only for a limited time.  Get it, play with friends and family.  Laugh a lot.  Everyone should get this app!

Sales of the iPhone are guaranteed to go up this holiday season as Walmart and Apple have worked out an agreement to allow iPhone 3G sales in their stores.  In my opinion this is great news for stockholders.  AAPL is pretty near its 52 week low as it is and the date of this Walmart rollout is just after election and just in time for holiday shoppers to pick one up for Christmas.  I say it’s a pretty good bet this will sell a lot of phones and drive stock prices up. There are so many choices on the app store for movie applications.  So far we’ve reviewed Showtimes and Now Playing.  Movies by Flixter is my personal favorite so far.  It has inspired me to really sit down and do a comparison post of all the movie applications out there to give you guys a really good idea of which one to choose.  As with any location based application it will want to determine your current location so it can give you information pertaining movies close to you.  This one so far is the only one that has my small rural town’s cinema information.  You can choose to enter in any zipcode for custom data.  I think most of the apps we’ve reviewed will give you that capability.  This application offers you information on movies powered by Flixter so if you’re already a fan of that web service, this is definitely a clear choice for you.  One thing this one does the others don’t do is DVD release information and schedules, definitely good for anyone who buys or rents a lot of DVD titles.  I think this is the cleanest looking interface of all the movie apps we’ve reviewed so far.  We’re giving it a 4.75/5 and will do a detailed comparison of all movies apps we’ve seen this week.  Check it out!  It’s FREE!

It may come of no surprise that I am a TechCrunch fanatic, and this is the reason why.  They are always posting useful and interesting industry news, so definitely check them out.  This application really is taking the iPhone one step in the right direction, and don’t be surprised if Apple doesn’t make this standard in an upcoming software update.  It’s a very simple app, all it really does is allow you to type a message in landscape mode, then sends that message over to the mail app so you can send it.  To me typing at length in the mail app is very painful because you can’t get it to go into landscape mode.  Awesome application and only costs $0.99.  Going straight to my dock!

I’ve been using Google Maps exclusively for a while and until the 3G and the 2.0 revision of iPhone software really hadn’t relied on the iPhone much.  With all of these great new applications it really is the perfect travel companion.  See our reviews of Trapster, AroundMe and others.  Will Android be better at fetching Google’s own data?  Google has posted another blog post demonstrating some of the advanced mapping features Android will be able to do.  MobileCrunch is also reporting on this.
