Out There many blogs explain as "how to" about favicon. Then why am i writing this again, good question keep reading and you will know.

What is Favicon?
Favicon is Favourite Icon which is present along side the address bar, near url.

Why to add Favicon?
Don't you want to brand you blog/website, if yes, then favicon is the best thing to brand your blog.

Which is the Best Image type to add as Favicon?
.ico is best image type to add as favicon and if you have a website you should go for .ico image type only as all browsers support it.

why .gif for blog?
When you add .ico image type as favicon won't work with blogspot the favicon is replaced by the blogger's favicon. This will work in firefox only , Google chrome again replaces it with blogger B favicon.

How to add Favicon to your blog?
Go to your blog, Click Layout go to Edit Html, using ctrl+F find %lt;head> just below it add the following code.

DarkTable: An Open Source alternative for Adobe Lightroom

Came across this software few days back, was searching for an open source alternative for Adobe Lightroom.


Darktable

While reading and digging about it, many people in forums has asked how to install it on Linux.

In this post i will try to explain how to install and link with few interesting posts on Darktable.

What is darktable?
Here is what darktable site says
"darktable is an open source photography workflow application and RAW developer. A virtual lighttable and darkroom for photographers. It manages your digital negatives in a database, lets you view them through a zoomable lighttable and enables you to develop raw images and enhance them."

How to install on linux?
Open the terminal and run the following commands

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pmjdebruijn/darktable-release
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pmjdebruijn/darktable-release-plus
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install darktable

If everything went well darktable should be installed on your computer.

Custom Screen Savers on Kindle Touch

Before proceeding to install custom screensaver on your kindle touch download the following package
Download | Mirror
We Need this package to enable us to connect to Kindle using SSH.
Extract it into the root folder of your Kindle Touch

Note:

The USB Networking can be toggled by entering ;un into the search box of the menu.
You can also set the root password (useful before your first login attempt) by issuing ;un password
The IP of the kindle is 192.168.15.244

Open the terminal on your Linux Desktop and type the following command:

sudo ifconfig usb0 192.168.15.1; ssh root@192.168.15.244

Example:

blah@blah-desktop:~$ sudo ifconfig usb0 192.168.15.1; ssh root@192.168.15.244

root@192.168.15.244's password:################################################## N O T I C E * N O T I C E * N O T I C E ##################################################Rootfs is mounted read-only. The /mnt/base-us is the root folder of you Kindle where screensaver.png is your custom screensaver, copy it to the required folder as mentioned above.

How to recover lost data from failed harddisk or formatted harddisk.

It has happened to me many times, formatted hardisks without backup, sometimes deleted the data unknowingly but, now you can recover such lost data with TESTDISK.

TestDisk is OpenSource software and is licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).

TestDisk is a powerfull FREE data recovery tool it can run under windows as well as Linux.

Here's what their site says,

    * Fix partition table, recover deleted partition
    * Recover FAT32 boot sector from its backup
    * Rebuild FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 boot sector
    * Fix FAT tables
    * Rebuild NTFS boot sector
    * Recover NTFS boot sector from its backup
    * Fix MFT using MFT mirror
    * Locate ext2/ext3 Backup SuperBlock
    * Undelete files from FAT, NTFS and ext2 filesystem
    * Copy files from deleted FAT, NTFS and ext2/ext3 partitions.

Technically you can recover all your lost data if only if you have not written over the recovering data.
