Grassroots Festival 2010

Lift Off Appeal - The Regal Theatre, Minehead

The theatre is currently driving forward its plans to develop the front of the theatre. The Regal Theatre’s LIFT OFF project aims to provide the theatre with a modern and attractive entrance vestibule.

A new lift giving access to all public parts of the theatre and new amenities will enable all members of our community to enjoy the full range of Regal entertainment and facilities.
APR Audio recently supplied the theatre with a high quality PA System and Engineers for their 'Lift Off Appeal' to make their event run smoothly. The evening featured local talent of past and present ending with long time favourites Cutting Edge.

Des and Members of Rock'n'Roll band Fumble again brought their brand of fun to the Wintergardens in Weston-Super-Mare
APR Audio were asked to supply sound and light production for this years event.

For audio Matt Gunter chose to use APR's EV XLE/X-Sub system. This was powered by EV P3000rl amplifiers. Monitors were EV RX115 powered by a trio of EV P3000.

For control a Yamaha M7CL-48 was used as it enabled a small FOH footprint with maximum processing.

Microphones were a mixture of Shure, AKG and Sennheiser with Di's from Klark Teknik.

For lighting, 2 x 6 Lamp PAR64 bars, 4 x Mac250 Entours and 2 x 4 way Moles filled the back truss with 2 x Robe Colourspot 575AT used on the tank traps as well as 3 LED washes per side.
Front washes came from the venues PAR64 rig.

Control was a Avolites Pearl Tiger with dimming from LSC

Jethro Tull - Exeter Cathedral

Ian Anderson plays the Christmas Jethro Tull , Exeter Cathedral, Tuesday 22 December, 7.30pm.

Ian celebrated his 40th year as a recording and performing musician last year and still remains the crowned exponent of the popular and rock genres of flute playing.
Ian plays ethnic flutes and whistles together with acoustic guitar and the mandolin family of instruments, providing acoustic textures which are an integral part of most of the Tull’s vast repertoire.

APR Audio and Stage Engage provided Exeter Cathedral with a Turn Key solution.

APR supplied a flown EV XLE Line Array for main L/R PA, X-Subs and Martin WT15 for front fills all driven off of EV P3000rl amplifiers. EV XZA5's were used for delays and out fills.

A Yamaha PM5D-RH was used for the FOH console which also handled monitors as well. APR provided Shure and AKG microphone including Beta 98, SM58, SM81 and C414.

Stage Engage provided a 12m span Prolyte front truss on VMB windup stands with Fresnels and Par64 for front light. At the back of the stage were Mobiletech windup stands with Par64 6 lamp bars for colour wash with 4 Mac250 Entours providing breakups and venue lighting. All loghting was controlled using a Avolites Pearl Tiger and LSC dimmers

That'll be the Day Xmas Show 2009 Bournemouth BIC

That'll be the Day rolled into the BIC early on saturday morning bringing their slapstick brand of comedy and Rock'n'Roll with a Christmas feel to it. Again followed closely by the APR crew.

APR's Matt Gunter has been designing the system for the Christmas show for the past few years and knew what he had to do. Provide a system so that everybody sat anywhere in the venue could hear the show and panto.

Having used the XLC and then XLC/XLD system Matt decided on trying out a 12 box aside XLD281 system. This kept the trucking weight down and setup time reduced. The total system was 12 EV XLD281 per side with 2 X-Subs perside and 4 XLE181 for front fills. All the system was powered by 16 P3000rl amplifiers with a Klark Teknik DN9848 for overall system distribution.

The results were fantastic, Clear and even coverage all throughout the venue. The system even sounded more suited to the show than the XLC in previous years.

APR Audio and partner company Stage Engage support Taunton Christians Together In the heart of Taunton on the last late night shopping before Christmas 2009.
David Hopewell, Production Manager for Taunton Christians Together Xmas approached APR Audio about supplying full production including, Power Distribution, Lighting, PA and Staging for this years event.
After several meetings with David, Veronique Hart of Reflections Music Group, who were to supply the majority of the music content for this event and Adrian Prior-Sankey the main compere Matt Gunter of APR was given a packed program of entertainment. With this information APR provided the following spec.

Matt decided to use APR's tried and tested Yamaha M7CL-48 as this offered compactness and features which benefit this type of event. The Main PA was a Dynacord Cobra2 system with EV ZXA5 for out fills. Monitors were Martin F10's and EV SXA360's.

Microphones were by Shure, Sennheiser and Electrovoice. Radio mics were Shure UHF-R with UR1 beltpacks and DPA4066 beige headsets for drama and puppets and UR2 handhelds with Beta87a capsules for compere.

For lighting, APR Audio's partner company Stage Engage provided a mixture of generic and intelligent lighting with 6 lamp Par64 bars, PAR64 singles, Quartets and Martin MAC250 Entours. Chris chose to use the Pearl Tiger for control and 12 channel LSC dimmers.

Chris also provided some ambient lighting for The Market House located behind the stage.

APR Audio and partner company Stage Engage support ENC Carol Concert.
APR Audio provided a EV XLE Line Array for the main flown system with ZXA5 for frontfills. Martin Audio F10's were used as a compact wedge solution as space was limited at the event.

FOH mixing on APR's Yamaha PM5D RH.

Mics used were Shure UHF-R with Beta87 capsules for all main vocals with EV RE510 for the choir congregation. Sennheiser and Shure filled the gaps on the band lineup.

Stage Engage provided a lighting rig comprising of 4 Fresnel fixtures, 4 Mac 250 Entours and Robe 575AT Profiles. Control came from 2 Zero88 Alpha packs and a Pearl Tiger

Sally Morgan - UK Tour

APR Audio supply R2 Digital Productions for the Sally Morgan UK Tour
R2 approached APR in early 2008 about a supplying a compact but high quality PA System for the UK Tour.

The spec required the system to be light, quick and easy to set up with easily repeatable results, night after night. Being that the show is 98% vocal, Clarity is the key to this system. Matt Gunter chose to use an EV RE97 head worn mic for Sally. This is a lightweight, clear and discrete mic ideal for this application.
To keep it wireless EV RE1 was chosen as the base for the wireless system, This follows through to the audience mic's which are RE1 handhelds with RE510 capsules.

On speaker duties are 8 EV SX300 boxes, 6 for the main PA system with 2 for onstage monitors. There are also 2 ZX1 for front fills. All the PA is powered by Dynacord LX2200 amplifiers.

At FOH the show is mixed on a Midas Venice 160. EQ is by a Klark Teknik DN9340 for all radio mic groups and a Square1 EQ for FOH. Any Compression requirements are handled by a DBX1066.

Louis & The Iguanas - The Victoria Rooms, Milverton

What do we play? Ska, Reggae, Blues Soul and Rock n Roll mostly. We love the big dubby numbers by artists such as Black Uhuru, as well as the lighter Ska songs by Prince Buster or the Skatalites.

Louis & The Iguanas rocked the Victoria Rooms with the help of APR Audio. Mike Logan (foh) used APR's X-Array system to do this. In the system was 1 XCN and 1 XB perside, running off 3 P3000 and a Klark Teknik DN9848. Monitors were handled by QRX115 wedges again running off P3000 amps.

Mike chose his favourite small analog console for this job and took along the Midas Verona 400 with a selection of outboard from DBX, Yamaha, TC Electronics and Klark Teknik. Mics were from Shure, AKG EV and Sennheiser.

Chris Wood - Dartington Hall

Chris Wood started out as a choirboy and much of his music bears those influences – he describes the Handmade Life album as “church music with drums.”

Again Dartington Hall entertained the crowds with another amazing talent in the form of Chris Wood. APR Audio were pleased to supply them with another quality PA System for this event.
The system supplied was APR's compact answer to small shows, The Dyancord Cobra 2. This was driven by 2 Dynacord L2400 amps and a DSP244. APR also supplied a Yamaha PM5D RH for FOH and Monitor duties.

Lionel Richie - Tour 2009

The X-Array system supplied comprised of 8 XCN Mid-High Modules and 8 XB Bass Modules. Arranged in a 4 XCN/2 XB flown and 2 XB on the floor configuration per side. The whole system was driven by 8 EV P3000 with processing from 2 Klark Teknik DN9848 units. All kit was supplied with full flying rig.

ASH - Exmouth Pavillions 2009

APR Audio in conjunction with Stage Engage supplied an EV XLD281 / X-Sub system for the ASH show at the Exmouth Pavillions.

Chris Ablett of Stage Engage approached APR about the possibility of supplying a knockout system for the Irish rockers show. Matt Gunter a longtime fan of the band jumped at the chance and designed a system within 10 minutes of the phone conversation ending.

Using 4 XLD281 elements a side the system will be complimented with 3 X-Subs each side and 4 XLE181 for front fills. The system will be driven using APR's tried and tested EV P3000rl racks running off of IrisNet software with Matt Gunter on Systems Tech duties.
Stage Engage are supplying an old skool analogue control system at FOH with a Soundcraft Series 2 32ch with outboard by Klark Teknik, XTA, DBX, Drawmer, Yamaha and TC Electronic.

Irish punk-pop trio Ash first formed in 1989 when childhood mates Tim Wheeler and Mark Hamilton got guitars for Christmas and established the metal act Vietnam. Nothing more than something for kicks, Vietnam switched to Ash in 1992 as Wheeler (guitar/vocals), Hamilton (bass), and Rick 'Rock' McMurray (drums) aimed to be something more serious. They shared a love for the raw punk of the Buzzcocks and crafted their musical talents to take the Britpop scene by storm at the start of the decade. NME was swooning over these 'teen punkers from Belfast,' and by 1994 Ash had signed to Infectious Records to issue the 'Trailer' EP later that autumn.

Their glossy youth was undoubtedly alluring, yet their Irish roots exuded a bit of an American flair similar to the likes of Pavement and The Lemonheads. They weren't even out of secondary school before three singles hit the Top Five in the U.K. indie charts.

A year later marked Ash's full-length debut with '1977' and a deal with Reprise Records in the U.S. Named in honor of the year 'Star Wars' was released, '1977' displayed Wheeler and Hamilton's full-fledged love for all things extraterrestrial and science fiction-related. Sharp guitar hooks and exact production work by Owen Morris (Oasis, New Order, Paul Weller) gained the bandmembers the fame they'd been wishing for since childhood. They were headlining major festivals - T in the Park, Glastonbury, Roskilde, and Reading - and playing countless club dates across the globe.

In autumn 1997, female guitarist Charlotte Hatherley was added to the all-male lineup, a definite change for the band's sound and image and a step that led Ash's fan base to expand into more of what the band had been looking for since the beginning.

With a new bandmate and the end of their teenage years, Ash welcomed anything that came their way. The late '90s marked a maturation for Ash as a unit as well as individually. Their sound featured heavier guitars while Wheeler's lyrical content experienced a much grittier shift.

Their sophomore effort, 'Nu-Clear Sounds' (1998), had Garbage's Butch Vig (Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana) at the mixing board, and it wasn't necessarily their finest moment. NME turned on the band, criticizing Ash's new sound as 'terrifying, ghoulrawk thrashnik deathcore noiseterrior sultans of satanic verse' in August 1998. Harsh words and reviews didn't distract Ash, however 'Free All Angels' followed in April 2001, although it didn't even see a U.S. release until the following summer. 'Meltdown', the band's first stateside release for Record Collection, arrived in spring 2005. A year later, and after nine years with Ash, Charlotte Hatherley announced her departure from the band.

In 2007 the group released 'Twilight of the Innocents', the album they claimed would be their last. Interestingly, however, they also assured their fans that they were not breaking up; instead, they would only release singles in response to consumer trends.

The Perfect 5th is a purpose built live music venue situated in the heart of Taunton, Somerset
Boasting state of the art sound and lighting equipment it offers a great experience in live music & entertainment.

Priding itself in aspiring musicians its aim is to provide a hub for people of all ages who can share knowledge and experiences in a musical environment.

After meetings and discussions with the owners, APR Audio were chosen to supply and install a new PA System to bring the venue up to date with its technical specification. APR's Matt Gunter and the Perfect 5th's Richard King decided on an EV system. This comprised of 4 EV X-Array XB 2x18" Sub Bass Cabinets and 2 EV XI1152/64f for the main FOH PA driven off of 4 EV P3000rl DSP amplifiers. This enables Richard to have great control of the PA and also create custom EQ settings for different style nights.

APR also supplied a Yamaha LS9-32 console to give them a compact but powerful FOH position. Other equipment supplied was a full HK Audio monitor system with D.A.R.T wedges and a PRO18SA sub for low end duties on the drum fill. A full range of of mic's, stands and di's from Shure, Sennheiser, BSS and Beyer finished off the package.

Lord Heseltine - Taunton School

Former deputy Prime Minister, Lord Michael Heseltine, was at Taunton School on Thursday attending a Charity Lunch organised by Taunton Vale Rotary Club.

After being greeted by Headmaster John Newton and President of Taunton Vale Rotary Club, Bill Tregillus, Lord Heseltine enjoyed a three course lunch and followed with an entertaining speech to members of Taunton Vale Rotary Club and a host of other guests at Taunton School including present Taunton School pupils, students from Queens College and local business men and women.
Over 360 people attended the event, raising around £9,000 for St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice and the Open Door charity for homeless people.
Lord Heseltine held a number of cabinet level positions, but is best known for his 1990 leadership challenge which forced the long-serving Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher from power in a dramatic Tory rebellion.
He became Deputy Prime Minister a few years later.
