There might be some installation instructions posted soon, but I wouldn’t count on it:).

So what’s next? Well, guess what, I bought a domain for it – http://www.amyeditor.com! Awesome, I can hear you, but what’s really next? The answear is – it depends on you. I’ve opened a forum on UserVoice and welcome any suggestions, controversy or just random shouts. I have some preliminary ideas what to do with various parts of the editor, it’s quite possible to separate it into smaller chunks and create couple of services out of it. I don’t think the editor as it is now has much of a chance. Sure it looks nice in Safari on my Mac (and it’s fast as .. you name it), but looking at it on IE/Windows just doesn’t feel that appealing.

The main reason for canceling all work on the editor was a job (paid – whoa!:) of co-creating brand new amazing service, which I’ll share with you really soon. It’ll blow your mind :).

As for *.isonrails.com – there are no news, it’s abandoware at the moment :(. It’s a real shame for all those poor Heroku users fighting with wonderful service and plainly TERRIBLE user interface – imagine isonrails.com interface planted on Heroku. That would be awesome.

Fry – the underlying, ancient old JavaScript library that Amy Editor uses – no change in that department either :). But have you noticed the JavaScript Terminal demo? Pretty neat, huh? ;)

The Rails Playground is widely open now, let’s see when it lands ;-)

The most unique thing to say about it, is the ability to host unlimited number of Rails applications on ONE (yes, ONE as 1) Mongrel instance. Without this trick, there would never be a way for the Playground to even exist.

Oh, and yes, it has the best online source code editor for Ruby/Rails available, but that’s just a secondary effect :).

Give it a try! And be nice and leave some feedback (any kind of it is more than welcome, negative thoughts help as well).

*.isonrails.com is the Rails Playground project I have been solely working on since .. well, if you know Amy Editor – it was meant to be just a small part of it and main reason it all started.

I’m happy to announce, that after presenting the Playground on EURUKO 2008 Conference, it is now available for joining in.

The project is aimed to starting Rails developers or anyone wishing to just give Rails a try in few seconds without configuring and installing anything on her computer. All you need is a decent browser (Safari, Firefox, even Opera or Internet Explorer will do). No Ruby, no Rails, no gems, no setup.

Do not hesitate and give it a try! :)

P.S. – the project is currently in invitation phase meaning you simply request for invitation, we confirm it and you’ll be able to hop in. This is meant to be just a temporary, it will later be open to registrations without invitations to anyone.

Licensing terms: MIT license, do whatever you want with it :).

There’s a little screencast demo you can watch. It’s not very good movie-wise, but it’s viewable :-). It’s pretty hard and time consuming to create a good one. I just don’t have patience for that ;).

This post is just an initial kick-off to assure anyone interested, that Amy Editor is not a dead project, even though I haven’t been able to post about it lately. It’s under active development, with several missing/experimental/not quite finished features. Please take it as a development version for now and be patient if something’s wrong. I’m out of job babysitting my two little boys during day and hacking over nights. And very tired right now actually :).
