Cornwall Weekend 15/16th August 2009.

Due to five people dropping out from this trip with deposits unpaid, we now have spaces that urgently need filling. If we can not fill these spaces soon (by the end of this week), we will have to advise Porthkerris as they have groups who desperately want that weekend. The cost is £60.00 per day on the big hard boat plus food & as much shore diving as you wish. This is a great weekend socially and the diving is very easy and very scenic. Lots of you have been asking when our Master Chef Winner, Mat Follas, is opening his new restaurant in Beaminster. We can now tell you that the Wild Garlic will be opening its doors to the public from the 23rd June for lunches and from the 25th June for evening meals. Thursday Evening Club Dives.

Due to the popularity of these evening dives Club members get first priority. If spaces are still available on Monday evenings then non club members who have put there names on the reserve list will be added, on a first come first served basis.

We have been approached by a local dive RIB operator who will run dive trips out of West Bay on a Friday evening and also at weekends. They will run with a minimum of 4 divers, which is great news. We are just waiting to hear back on prices. If you would be interested in this service please let us know ASAP please.

If you have any requests on other locations to dive, please let us know and we will see what can be arranged.

It was great to see Howard two weekends ago. He has moved to Cornwall but came back up to do two very good dives out of Lyme Regis with us. Thanks Paul for taking us out. I struggled with the 15 dozen scallops mind you!

Open Water Course. £350.00. For the fourth year running we are keeping the cost the same. We can also adjust the payment terms and spread them over the duration of the course, after paying a deposit on the required materials. We only have a few spaces left for this weeks Thursday evening dive (30th April). Leaving West Bay at the NEW time of 7pm.

Last weeks dive produced a large quantity of Scallops as well as Crab & Dover Sole. First come first served.

This weekend spaces full for Saturdays dives 2nd April.

We have a request to arrange a trip out to Dahab in the Red Sea, in the later half of July this year. This is for divers and non divers. If you are interested please let us know as soon as possible.

Thursday Evening Club Dives. Names ASAP please. Last week was very disappointing, as we had to cancel the dive as only four people had booked by the Thursday morning. This was a great shame, especially as Jon Eaves had gone out earlier with his boat and reported over ten meters visability. As the old adage goes... "Use it or loose it."

Porthkerris, Cornwall. Diving Weekend. August 15/16th 2009. We have provisionally booked with Porthkerris the big Cat (hard boat with lift), for the weekend of August 15/16. This is a neap tide weekend. The cost for the weekends dives to include 2 boat dives, lunch and drinks on board is £60.00 per day. Names as soon as possible please. e-mail us or call us.

If you purchased any NEW Oceanic goods from us please remember that you have a life time warranty on all parts. As long as the item is serviced on it's "birthday" (give or take thirty days). If not then you will have to pay for all parts when you do get it serviced.

Unfortunately, due to the cancellation of the large group of Try Dives for tomorrow, Saturday 14th March we will not be at Chantmarle Pool.

We have, at the moment, a few places left for this coming Thursday evenings Club Boat dive (19th March), leaving West Bay at 6.30pm. Please call or e-mail to book your place.

Don't forget to check out your kit etc. and not leave it to the last minute if it needs servicing or repair.

Well here we go. It seems to have been a long winter, with not much UK diving occurring, although a few fortunate's have been to sunny climates. A few dives have been done but the visibility has not been up to much, not to mention the cold! A few hardy people have been up to Vobster Quay, a inland quarry, with a cool surface temperature of 5c.

At last, we have all been put out of our misery, after waiting months to find out who had won BBC 2's Masterchef competition. So, many congratulations to our very own diver Mat Follas, Masterchef Winner 2009.

If you have not already done so, I would suggest that you all give your dive kit the once over. Ensuring that tanks are in date, regulators serviced and working correctly. That your BCD's operate correctly, SMB reel not seized up, torches checked etc. Also check that your diving suits are in one piece. Especially if yours is neoprene and it has been stored in the garage or an outhouse or loft. I say this because Mice etc love to make nests from neoprene, as Phil can testify even though hung well off the floor. Just as important as checking your kit is brushing up on your dive skills before going into the ocean. I have booked the pool at Chantmarle for March the 14th from 10am till noon. On the same day we already have a large group doing a Try Dive so please let me know if you intend to come over.

Thursday evening club dives will be starting on the 19th March leaving West Bay at 6.30pm aboard Huntress II. For the first few weeks I will be taking names on a first come first served basis. After that the current club members will get priority. So names ASAP please.

Due to fuel costs etc the skipper has had to put his prices up a bit. This is the first increase in a few years and I was surprised it did not go up last year. This year the cost will be £17.00 per diver.

Porthkerris Divers Cornwall. Some of you will remember when their Dive Centre was based at the main house with a fantastic dining conservatory. Tragically the house burnt down in January. Fortunately Mike, Jo and the family were not physically injured. We send them all our best wishes. The Diving operation has not been affected and business is as usual.

Extended Open Water Courses and cost spreading offer. Over the winter period we will be running extended Open Water Courses. Instead of cramming the academics and pool sessions in over a couple of days we will spread the course over a few months, probably one afternoon or evening every other week. The cost of the course will be the same and can be done as a complete course or as a referral. The course can then be completed in sunnier climates if required (possibly during any of our trips to the Red Sea etc), or here in the U.K. Also, we can adjust the payment terms and spread them over the duration of the course, after paying a deposit on the required materials. Aqua Blue Update. 15th October

Last Thursdays evening club dive was one of the few dives conducted during the week. With the weekends shore diving off Chesil beach blown out, well it is October I suppose...

Only two spaces left for this Thursdays evening dive due to cancellations. Please see below.

Club evening dive every Thursday evening, spaces available at the moment, leaving from West Bay at 7pm. Please ensure you have two torches plus a strobe attached to your SMB, as it will be dark by the time you surface.

The Sunday afternoon pool training sessions and Seal team training at Beaminster pool will be coming to an end at the end of this month until next year. We will then revert back to using Chantmarle pool over the winter for all training.

We are looking at doing Open Water Courses over the winter period. Just doing the academics and five pool sessions spread out over a few months then finishing the sea dives when the sea conditions are favourable next year, or finishing off abroad as a referral. We can also do this for the Rescue Course.

Other courses planned over the winter are the New Oxygen Admin Speciality Course, Medic First Aid and Enriched Air (Nitrox). Please contact us for details on 07771906101 or by email.

Aqua Blue Update. 6th October

Well it had to be too good to last, with October starting out very windy and wet the scheduled Open Water Sea Dives over the weekend were binned for another day, and last weeks club evening dive also went the same way. Fingers crossed for this week!

Some of us did manage to get wet on Sunday, diving the Storm Overflow drains which go under the Portland causeway. Lots of anenomies, velvet swimming crabs, shrimps and some very large eels. A good torch was definatley needed, and a good hose down of kit afterwards. This is the first time i have dived this site in over 7 years, and i had forgotten how much life there was to be seen in such a small area. Just goes to show that there is always some where to dive, if your not to picky.

Some Scapa Flow trip reports and pictures have been posted on the web site, so check them out! Cheers Rik. Please feel free to add your own, the more the merrier.

Diving Insurance. Once again it has been bought to our attention that many of you probably only carry diving insurance whilst you are away abroad on holiday. Although here in the UK it is not mandatory to have any kind of diving insurance. We highly recommend you take out third party liability insurance at least, a sign of the times I am afraid. The implications of not having suitable cover could be huge. If you belong to the BSAC or SAA your club membership should cover you, but do check. If you would like to talk to us about this or find out who provides diving insurance please feel free to ask us.
