Danimarca: un anno dopo

Sembra ieri ma in realtà è già passato un anno da quando sono arrivato in Danimarca ed è tempo di dare delle valutazioni. Chiarisco subito che molto di quello che dirò è assolutamente personale, e relativo alla mia ancora corta esperienza in terra danese.
Ma come si fa a valutare un posto, una cultura con tutto quello che la circonda? Beh, in verità non credo sia possibile ma cercherò di dare dei punteggi a delle cose che si valutano (io lo faccio) in tutti i posti del mondo in cui si possa andare.

A quanto pare il punteggio medio risulta essere molto alto. Voglio ricordare che i punteggi sono basati completamente su mie esperienze personali in Danimarca ed in altri paesi e non si basano su statistiche reali. Per quanto riguarda dei ranking basati su numeri e statiche volevo segnalare come Copenaghen risulta essere all'undicesimo posto tra le città più vivibili, ma personalmente credo che il valore che si debba dare a queste statistiche sia molto relativo, e che la qualità della vita non si basi solo numeri ma anche dalla personale soddisfazione che si può avere vivendo in un posto piuttosto che in un altro.

Denmark: one year later

Looks like yesterday but one year has already passed since I started living in Denmark, and for that reason I thought is time to give some evaluation. I want to make clear that my evaluation it completely personal and solely based on my, still very short, experience in Denmark.
But how would you evaluate a place, a culture and everything that surrounds it? Well, actually I do not think is possible mainly because, again most of the evaluation are biased from the personal experience and native culture of each person. I will anyway try to give some score to things that people care about (at least I do) when moving from a place (city, country etc.) to another.

Looks like the average score is pretty good. I want you to recall again that these "scores" are based solely on my personal experience and are not based on existing real statistics.
Talking about ranking based on statistics, Copenhagen got the 11th position among the most livable cities in the world. I understand those people work a lot for making those statistics but still I think the best way for deciding which place is the best to live is a very personal thing and cannot be chosen only by means of statistics.

Rinnovo passaporto non voluto

Lo scorso mese sono andato in Giappone, e tutto è andato bene a parte una disavventura all'aeroporto di Amsterdam. Mentre mi trovavo all'aeroporto di Amsterdam pronto a salire sull'aereo per Narita, mi rendo conto che il mio passaporto si è aperto in due parti. Inizialmente pensai fosse stato il tipo al controllo passaporti a romperlo, ad ogni modo, dato che nessuno lo aveva controllato, io feci notare che sarebbe stato meglio non partire visto che con quel passaporto non mi avrebbero permesso di entrare in Giappone. Dopo problemi con la polizia per uscire dall'aeroporto, arrivato in albergo mi accorgo che in realtà la colpa non era stata dello staff dell'aeroporto ma semplicemente della zecca dello stato della repubblica Italiana. Per chiudere il discorso sul viaggio, alla fine sono riuscito ad avere un nuovo passaporto in meno di 24 ore, grazie alla professionalità delle persone che lavorano al consolato italiano ad Amsterdam, sono partito dunque per Narita con un giorno di ritardo. E' stato disarmante scoprire come la zecca dello stato abbia rilasciato durante il 2007 dei passaporti elettronici difettosi che si rompono in due parti quanto meno te lo aspetti. Ora cercate di immaginare cosa sarebbe successo piuttosto che in Olanda mi fossi trovato in un paese non parte della EU. Immaginate cosa possa succedere se vi si dovesse rompere il passaporto mentre siete negli Stati Uniti o in Cina. Beh spero per voi che non dobbiate mai scoprirlo. Ad ogni modo, per maggiori informazioni su questa partita di passaporti difettosi vi rimando a questo link, e se siete italiani date sempre una controllata al passaporto prima di partire, o meglio, prima di prenotare il volo. Spero non vi succeda quello che è successo a me, che per l'ennesima volta mi sono vergognato dell'incompetenza italiana.

Unwanted new passport

Last month I went to Japan and the trip was ok apart from a problem with my passport. In Amsterdam my passport broke in two pieces even thought it was perfect just few seconds before. To summarize about the trip, I could get a new passport in few hours thanks to the Italian consulate in Amsterdam, and I could fly to Japan the day after I was supposed to fly.
But how can a passport brake? At first I thought the guy checking the passports broke it but in the evening, searching on the internet, I realized that was simply italy's fault. In 2007 Italy produced thousands of defected passports that randomly brake in two parts usually while you are traveling (which is when you are supposed to use it). To know more about how it happens you can go to this link (sorry it is only in Italian).
I was lucky that I was in a EU country and that the people at the Italian consulate in Amsterdam were very professional and helpful, so that I could get a new passport in such a short time (around 14 hours). But try to imagine how many problems if your passport breaks in a non-EU country, think about if it happens in US or China. Seriously I don't even want to imagine how it would be. I simply suggest the Italians that got their passport in 2007, to always check their passport before they leave their country, or better, before they book a flight to a non-EU country.

要りませんでした新しいパスポート

先月旅行で日本に行きましたけどパスポートの問題出ました。アムステルダムの飛行場で私のパスポートを割れました。沢山もんだい出ましたけど新しいパスポーポ後一日に貰いました。でもどうやってパスポートを割れますか。それは殆ど出来ませんですけど２００７でイタリアはいっぱい悪いパスポートを作りました。やっぱり私のパスポートを悪いでした。
イタリア人だったらとEUの外に行きたればいつもあなたのパスポートちゃんとチェックして下さい。

Previsioni della luce

Come in tutti gli stati, anche in Italia abbiamo le previsioni del tempo, ma ancora non abbiamo le previsioni della luce. Uno dei tanti problemi che il disastro di Fukushima daiichi ha portato al Giappone è la mancanza (o ridotta disponibilità) di energia elettrica. Per aiutare i Giapponesi a capire come e quando risparmiare energia esistono anche le previsioni sul consumo di energia elettrica. Il servizio è offerto da Yahoo Japan e fa vedere quali e quando sono picchi di consumo di energia elettrica durante la giornata. Non credo che in Italia o in Danimarca si abbiano dei servizi del genere ma sarebbe interessante se esistessero e comunque non è mai una cattiva idea non sprecare energia.

Electricity consumption forecast

One of the many problems that the Fukushima dai-ichi disaster has bought to Japan is the shortage of electricity power. Because of that problem japanese people need to learn how to save power and in general not waste energy.
To help the population in the above task yahoo japan offers an electricity forecast service. The forecast tells which and what time are the picks of electricity consumption during the day.
It would be interesting to see those services also in Italy and Denmark.

Macchina mangia lattine

I paesi scandinavi e la Danimarca sono sempre stati famosi per essere molto avanti in termini di ecologia. In verità devo dire che per quanto riguarda il riciclaggio dei sembra proprio che altri paesi siano più avanti.
Una cosa sicura è che in Danimarca si beve davvero tanta birra, e questo porta ad una elevata produzione di rifiuti in alluminio (le lattine). In qualunque supermercato in Danimarca si può trovare una macchina dove si possono lasciare lattine, le bottiglie di plastica ed alcuni tipi di bottiglie di vetro. Per ogni bottiglia o lattina introdotta si riceve una piccola somma di danaro da poter spendere nel supermercato dove la macchina si trova. La somma ricevuta varia da un minimo da 1 a 2,5 corone danesi (0,13 - 0,33€).
Credo che queste macchine siano presenti anche in Germania e negli altri paesi scandinavi. Mi chiedo come mai cose così semplici non debbano esistere in Italia visto che in qualche modo potrebbero dare una qualche spinta al riciclaggio.

Cans eating machine

Denmark and scandinavian countries are known for being advanced in terms of ecology. I must admit anyway that other countries are probably better in recycling domestic junk.
For sure in Denmark a very high quantity of beer is consumed and this leads to a high production of recyclable aluminium cans (mainly beer cans). In every Danish supermarket there is a machinery in which is possible to dispose aluminium cans and some type of plastic (pet) and glass bottles. In exchange the user can receive a small amount of money to be used in the same supermarket where the machinery is installed. The amount of money for each bottle (or can) disposed goes from 1 to 2,5 danish krona (0,13 to 0,33€).
I think these recycling machines are available also in Germany and in the other scandinavian countries. I wonder why cannot have those things in Italy, since probably it could give a little help in recycling.

Anniversario bombardamento di Hiroshima e Nagasaki

Il 6 ed il 9 Agosto si commemorano i morti dovuti ai bombardamenti atomici di Hiroshima e Nagasaki rispettivamente. Sono passati ormai 66 anni dall'accaduto ma quest'anno potrebbe essere un po' diverso per il popolo nipponico. Con il disastro di Fukushima, in seguito allo tsunami del 11 Marzo 2011, il Giappone torna ad avere paura del nucleare, ma questa volta però l'"attacco" è arrivato direttamente dall'interno. Non volendo spendere troppe parole sul modo in cui il governo ha gestito (e gestisce) il problema, e sui responsabili torno subito al tema principale del post.
Il bombardamento del Giappone e la seconda guerra mondiale hanno generato e generano una quantità immensa di film, documentari, dipinti ecc. Avendo visitato di persona il museo ad Hiroshima, posso dirmi che è stato uno dei pochi casi in cui le immagini che vedevo mi mettevano davvero paura (oltre che tristezza).
Nella speranza che cose del genere non accadano mai più e sperando che la gente capisca quanto sia pericolosa l'energia nucleare, vi consiglio due film di animazione ed un documentario sul bombardamento di Hiroshima e Nagasaki. Il Film:

"Una tomba per le lucciole" (火垂るの墓) [anche se riguarda la guerra in generale]
Hadashi no Gen (non credo esista in Italiano)

Il documentario si chiama "White Light/Black Rain: The Destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki". E' del 2007 e racconta i giorni del bombardamento tramite le testimonianze di alcuni dei sopravvissuti.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombing commemoration

The 6th and 9th of August 1945 the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki respectively occurred. This year remembering those days will be a little different for japanese people. The Fukushima dai-ichi disaster brought back the fear of nuclear power, with the difference that this time the "attack" is coming from the inside. Many posts will be needed to talk about the way Japanese government managed (and is managing) the problem, and about the people to blame for the disaster, so I will just go back to the bombing of the two Japanese cities.
The events in Hiroshima and Nagasaki are one of most sad pictures of second world war, and a huge number of movies, painting, documentaries etc, has been produced since 1945. I have to the museum dedicated to the bombing in Hiroshima, and I must that is one of the few cases in which what a seeing was not only sad, but was also scary.
Knowing what happened is very important for avoiding that those thing won't happen anymore, also because a nuclear war nowadays would probably completely destroy the hearth. To conclude I will suggest you two animated movies and a documentary about the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombing.

Giappone vince mondiali di calcio femmile

Con più di dieci giorni di ritardo posto la notizia sulla vittoria del Giappone ai mondiali di calcio femminile. Di solito non guardo il calcio femminile, anche se devo dire che la finale non è stata niente male visto che ci sono stati quattro goal e che è stata combattuta fino ai rigori.

Even though I am more than ten days late I wanted to let you know that Japan won the women's world soccer championship. Is the first time for an Asian country to win in that competition. I admit that I usually do not watch women's soccer games, but this time I must say that some game (especially the final) was really nice. And I am also sad that Italian team could not even qualify for this edition of the world cup.

Sono passati mesi dall'ultima volta che ho scritto qualcosa dunque mi sembrava giusto dare almeno un veloce aggiornamento. I motivi per i quali non ho scritto sono vari, tra i quali gli impegni di lavoro e la mia pigrizia. Di seguito elencherò velocemente delle cose accadute negli ultimi mesi.

Assistente in corso Perl più un giorno di lezione tutto per me :)
Ho iniziato a vivere in un altro appartamento
Conferenza a Cambridge in microbiologia
Summer School in Sicilia + visita a casa + 3kg di peso
Ampliata la conoscenza del cibo e delle birre Danesi (anche se preferisco ancora il vino)
Ho iniziato ha fare la pizza da zero (due tentativi fino ad ora)

La lista di sopra è fortemente ridotta e ripulita da certi eventi e dettagli che potrebbero disturbare la sensibilità dei lettori... Da ora in poi cercherò di nuovo di scrivere in modo un po' più regolare sul blog.

Update

Almost 4 months has passed since I wrote in this blog. The reasons are different, and among those there are my job and my laziness. Following I will show a short list of the things that happened during the last 4 months.

Assistant in a Perl course + one lecture by me :)
Started living in a new flat
Conference on microbiology in Cambridge at Welcome Trust institute
Summer School in Sicily + visit family + gained 3kg
Widen my knowledge of Danish food and beers (I still prefer wine)
Started making pizza from scratch (2 tests so far)

The list is strongly simplified and some details and events were omitted to preserve the sensitivity of the readers... From now on I will try to update my blog a little bit more frequently.

Donazioni per il Giappone

Questa settimana un fortissimo terremoto seguito da uno tsunami hanno distrutto la costa del Sendai. Decine di migliaia di persone sono rimaste senza una casa ed in quelle zone vi è anche carenza di acqua e cibo.
Lo scopo di questo post non è mostrare foto, video e tanto meno numeri, visto che al momento sarebbe ridondante. La motivazione che mi spinge a scrivere questo post è la consapevolezza che ci sono tante persone che vorrebbero fare qualcosa di concreto per aiutare ma non trovandosi lì non possono fare tanto. Uno dei modi per ovviare a questo problema è inviare delle donazioni in danaro, ed anche qui non è semplicissimo visto il gran numero di siti che approfittano della situazioni per rubare soldi alla gente che pensano invece di aiutare le persone colpite dal terremoto.
Facendo una ricerca veloce sul web ho trovato un paio di canali dai quali si può donare con la sicurezza che i soldi arrivino a chi di dovere.
Di seguito mostro una lista di siti dai quali si può donare, e le donazioni andranno sempre alla croce rossa Giapponese o alla protezione civile giapponese.

Charity donations for Japan

Last Friday Japan was struck by a tremendously powerful earthquake followed by a tsunami. The Sendai region as been completely destroied and thousands of people died. I write this post not to show pictures and videos, since at the moment would be redundant and unuseful, but because I am sure that there are people that would like to help those unlucky people who lost their house, family and friends. In sendai region there is also need for food and water, and the only concrete way to help (as far as you cannot be there) is to send charity donations.
There many sites that tries to steal money from people saying that the money will be for helping Japan. Following I give a list of links to websites from which you can safely make donations to the Japanese red cross being sure that the money you give will be used to help the people suffering in Sendai region:

Melodie nelle stazioni Giapponesi

Una delle cose che si nota subito quando si arriva per la prima volta in Giappone, come ogni singola stazione e linea ferroviaria abbia una propria melodia ogni volta che un treno arriva. A quanto pare uno dei modi per far rilassare i pendolari, considerato anche che prendere il treno nelle ore di punta non è proprio una gioia. Ad ogni modo, le compagnie ferroviarie, specialmente la JR (un delle più compagnie ferroviarie in Giappone), hanno un forte merchandising, e tra i gadget in commercio vi sono proprio dei portachiavi con delle melodie delle stazioni. Mediamente le persone associano il Giappone al sumo, alle scolarette in gonnella o alle geishe, ma quando si ha modo di vivere in un posto i ricordi sono legati anche a piccole cose, specialmente queste cose puoi trovarle soltanto nel posto in questione. Nel mio caso vi è ad esempio il suono (24 ore non stop) delle Cicale Giapponesi (Semi) che indicano l'arrivo della primavera e l'avvicinarsi dell'estate. Comunque, tutta questa papella per dirvi che ho trovato un sito molto carino dove potrete ascoltare tutte le melodie delle stazioni Giapponesi, il sito si chiama Sound of Station. Di sicuro la melodia della Yamanote line sarà la più gettonata.

Japanese train station jingles

One of the things you will soon notice when you are for the first time in Japan, is that avery train station has its own melody, played everytime a train arrives. It is apparently a way to let the travellers avoid to rush and feel relaxed somehow. Anyway, Japanese railway companies, and especially JR, sell keychains with the train station melodies and those are quite popular among turists.
Average western people remembers Japan when they see mangas, high technology, samurai movies, but when you had the chance to live in a place then you will remember it by little things you can see only there. For example in my case, the sound (noise) of Japanese cicada (semi) remembers me of Japan in summer season. Anyways, Japanese station melodies are only in Japan and I am keeping talking only to tell you that I found a nice website where you can find all those jingles. The site is called Sound of Station and I am sure that Yamanote line melody will be very popular among the people that visited Japan.

Dallo scorso 28 Gennaio è arrivato nei cinema in Italia Yattaman. Il film, trasmesso in Giappone nel 2009, è la trasposizione cinematografica del cartone e manga Yattaman. Il regista è il grande Takashi Miike, famoso principalmente per i suoi film horror, il quale dimostra dimostra anche una certa bravura nel fare dei film demenziali. Il film riesce ad essere demenziale come il cartone. La versione DVD del film è stata commercializzata l'8 Febbraio. Purtroppo il film si trova a competere con pellicole del calibro di Qualunquemente e di conseguenza non credo otterrà molto successo in Italia.

Yattaman movie released in Italy

Since the 28th of January you can see in the Italian theatres the live action of the Japanese manga and cartoon Yattaman. The director is Takashi Miike who is famous for his horror and splatter movies (eg Audiction and Ichi the killer), but is also known for some demential movies (eg. Zebraman). The movie, released in Japan in 2009, is as funny as the cartoon is (I watched it long time ago) and it's quite enjoyable. The DVD has also been released the 8th of February.
Yattaman will have to compete in Italy with movies like Qualunquemente, and for that reason I do not think it will have a great success.

１月からイタリアの映画館にヤッターマンの映画を出ました。映画監督は三池崇史です。二ヶ月からDVDも出ました。イタリアに出た時でQualunquementeも出ましたから、ヤッターマンが有名になりませんだと思います。

Sono ufficialmente Danese

Credo che sia la prima volta che scrivo della Danimarca da quando ci vivo. Per vivere in Danimarca è necessario il CPR-Number, un codice personale di 10 cifre (le prime sei sono la data di nascita) senza il quale in Danimarca non si è nessuno. Senza il CPR-Number non si può fare assolutamente niente, niente medico, niente affitto, niente conto in banca...niente! Il CPR-number vale come una carta di identità che include anche il codice fiscale e la tessera sanitaria.
Ottenerlo non è particolarmente difficile, bastano un contratto di lavoro ed un contratto di locazione (o qualcuno che dichiari che ti sta ospitando). Per motivi a me oscuri ho avuto non poche difficoltà burocratiche per ottenerlo ma alla fine, dopo un mese di calvario, dopo il mio arrivo ci sono riuscito.

I officially got a Danish identity

It's probably the first time I talk about Denmark since I arrived in here 3 months ago. To live in Denmark you need a CPR-Number (aka yellow card). Without the CPR don't have an identity, you cannot have a medic, cannot rent a house, open a bank account...nothing!!
To obtain the CPR is not that difficult, you just need a job contract and a place were you leave (is not mandatory to have a renting contract, a friend stating that is guesting you would be also fine). For some reason I don't know why it took me more than one month to get it but in the end I could make it.

デンマークに住んでるのためにCPR−Numberをいります。それはデンマークのアイデンティティーカードです。CPRを貰わなければ何もできなしです。銀行口座と医療できません、携帯番号もできません…何もできなしです。
CPRを貰う事が難しくないです。仕事と家の賃貸借契約もう大丈夫です。私は分からないですけど、貰う事が１ヶ月半掛かりました。

Presentazione di Yuto Nagatomo

Ieri è stato presentato il nuovo acquisto dell'Inter Yuto Nagatomo. Da notare come l'interprete incaricata Giapponese incaricata non sia assolutamente all'altezza della situazione. Alla conferenza stampa erano presenti tutte le principali emittenti del Sol Levante.
Nagatomo esordirà quasi sicuramente domani nella partita contro la Roma.

Yesterday Yuto Nagatomo has been officially announced as a new Inter player. The interpreter at the media event is very bad and sometimes was not able at all to translate what Nagatomo was saying.

Oggi, a pochi minuti dal termine del mercato invernale, l'Inter ha finalizzato l'acquisto di Yuto Nagatomo. Il terzino Giapponese, che militava nel Cesena, è stato recentemente protagonista nel gol che ha reso il Giappone campione d'Asia. La sede dell'Inter a Milano è già invasa da giornalisti e tifosi Giapponesi che vogliono la maglia del nuovo terzino dell'Internazione FC.

Today Inter Milan bought from Cesena Calcio the Japanese defender Yuto Nagatomo. The player was one of the main actors in the goal that last Saturday made Japan the champion of Asia for the fourth time. Inter's main offices in Milan had been already assaulted by Japanese media and supporters asking for the jersey of the new Internazionale's defender.

Giappone campione d'Asia 2011

Lo scorso Sabato si è giocata la finale per la coppa d'Asia tra Giappone ed Australia in Qatar. Il Giappone sotto la guida dell'allenatore Italiano Alberto Zaccheroni ha sconfitto ai tempi supplementari la compagine Australiana diventato campione d'Asia per la quarta volta.
La partita è stata molto bella con azioni da ambo le parti. Il gol della vittoria è stato segnato da Tadanari Lee, un giocatore alla su seconda presenza con il Giappone ed inserito da Zaccheroni durante i supplementari.
Il gol devo dire che è talmente bello che a guardarlo sembra un replay di Pro Evolution.
Il cross perfetto è stato effettuato da Nagatomo il quale gioca in Italia nel Cesena Calcio.

Japan Asian Champion 2011

Last Saturday in Qatar, Japan national soccer team won the title of Asian champion for the fourth time by winning against Australia. The game was nice and both teams had good chances to score. The Italian coach Alberto Zaccheroni made the winning move by letting in Tadanari Lee, who scored the winning goal.
The goal is so beautiful that it resembles a replay from a video game. The perfect cross comes from Nagatomo, who plays in the Italian soccer team Cesena Calcio.

Sachie

La scorsa settimana sono andato in un negozio di prodotti Giapponesi a Copenaghen, il cui nome è Sachie. Bisogna subito dire che le mie aspettative erano forse troppo alte e di conseguenza sono rimasto un po' deluso vendendo quanto fosse piccolo il negozio.
Sono comunque riuscito a comprare dei gyoza e il curry. Putroppo non avevano i nori che avrei voluto utilizzare per fare degli onighiri.I costi come prevedibili erano molto alti, la confezione piccola di curry (ゴルデンカレー) è costata 46 corone (circa 6.5€ euro o circa 730¥). Alla fine sono comunque contento di essere riuscito a trovare il curry.

Sachie Shop

Last weekend I went to Copenhagen to a japanese grocery shop called Sachie. Maybe I had too high expectations about the shop and I guess that's why I got a little delusion when I realized how small the shop actually was. I was able anyway to buy gyoza and japanese curry.
Both because it is located in main Copenhagen's street and because the products are imported, the prices were quite high as well. I payed 46DKK (around 6.5€ or 730¥) for a small box of curry (ゴルデンカレー). I am happy anyway that I could buy curry but I am a little disappointed that they did not have the nori seawed I wanted to use to make onighiri.

さちえ

先週はコペンハーゲンに日本のスーパに行きました。スーパの名前はさちえです。さちえは狭いですけど食べ物は色々があります。餃子とカレーを買いました。ノリありませんでしただからおにぎりは作る事ができませんです。

L'Uomo Tigre esiste davvero

Il tutto è iniziato lo scorso Natale quando un orfanotrofio in Giappone ha ricevuto degli zaini per la scuola da un donatore che diceva essere Naoto Date, che è il protagonista del fumetto e cartone animato intitolato L'uomo Tigre (タイガーマスク). Ne l'uomo tigre, il protagonista è un orfano che da adulto diventa un famoso lottatore di wrestling con lo pseudonimo di Uomo Tigre, perché indossa una maschera di tigre. Con i soldi guadagnati combattendo, Naoto Date continua ad aiutare i bambini negli orfanotrofi. Dunque, a quanto pare dallo scorso Natale vi sono in Giappone molti supereroi che fanno delle donazioni di vario genere a degli orfanotrofi firmandosi come Naoto Date, o con nomi di altri super eroi. Le donazioni sono arrivate in più di 70 orfanotrofi sparsi per tutto il Giappone. In certi casi sono stati donati dei soldi, in altri verdura, ed ancora stampanti, prodotti per la cancelleria e chi più ne ha più ne metta. Siccome la notizia secondo me è molto carina, e siccome queste cose non accadono molto spesso, speriamo che questa vena filantropica non si spenga quando sarà terminato il momentaneo clamore mediatico.

Tiger Mask exists!!!

Everything started last christmas when a child house in Japan received school bags from a donor that in a letter was stating to be Naoto Date, whom is the main character of the manga and anime Tiger Mask. In the manga, the main character is an orphan who becomes a famous wrestler know as Tiger Mask (because he wears a tiger mask) and helps the kids in child houses. So, apparently since last christmas in Japan there many super-heroes helping child houses, donating money, vegetable, printers and whatever other thing could be useful. The donors sometimes says he is tiger mask but also other manga characters are used as pseudonym. Donations were received in more than 70 chid houses all around Japan. Since the news is really nice and because these things happens quite seldom nowadays let's hope the super-heroes will keep existing even after mass media will stop talking about this fairy tale news.

Air Doll

Hirokazu Koreeda è un regista, sceneggiatore, produttore ed editore cinematografico Giapponese. Nei suoi film tratta sempre dei temi abbastanza impegnati tra i quali la morte, e quasi sempre finiscono molto male. Tra i suoi film più famosi vi sono 誰も知らない (Nobody Knows) ed ワンダフルライフ　(After Life). Di recente ho riguardato uno dei suoi ultimi film il cui titolo è 空気人形 (Kuuki ningyou) noto con il titolo "Air Doll" in occidente. Il film è una favola moderna in cui una bambola gonfiabile prende vita ed inizia ad andare in giro per Tokyo. La pellicola è stata girata in uno dei quartieri più antichi di Tokyo prima di essere distrutto per lasciare posto a nuove costruzioni. Il tema che viene trattato nel film è principalmente la solitudine nelle megalopoli (Tokyo nel caso specifico). Beh, non voglio comunque anticipare niente sul film, ma vi assicuro che l'attrice protagonista, ed il resto del cast sono davvero bravi ed inoltre le musiche sono davvero belle.

Air Doll

Hirokazu Koreeda is a Japanese movie director, producer, screenwriter and edit. His movies explore themes of memory, death, and coming to terms with loss. Among his most famous movies there are 誰も知らない (Nobody Knows) and ワンダフルライフ (After Life). Recently I watched for the second time one of his recent movies which title is 空気人形 (Kuuki ningyou), better known in western countries as "Air Doll". The film is a modern fairy tale in which an inflatable doll develops a soul and falls in love. The movie was shot in an old Tokyo neighborhood before its destruction to give space to new buildings. The main theme treated in the movie is the loneliness in metropolis (Tokyo in the specific case). Well, I do not want to anticipate anything more on the movie, but I guarantee that the main actress and all the other people in the cast were really good and the movie soundtracks are really nice.

Giuseppe Tornatore: Sicilia Sicilia

Di recente il regista Siciliano Giuseppe Tornatore è stato in Giappone per la presentazione del suo ultimo film Baarìa che in Giappone è stato intitolato Sicilia Sicilia (シチリア　シチリア) e che era stato presentato a fine 2009 al Tokyo International Film Festival. In Giappone il regista Siciliano è famoso principalmente per Nuovo Cinema Paradiso ed anche Malèna è relativamente conosciuto. Sebbene il film in Italia e nel mondo non abbia avuto un grandissimo successo probabilmente la fama di cui Tornatore gode nel paese del sol levante assieme alla robusta operazione di marketing potrebbe portare fortuna ancora una volta al regista siciliano.

Recently the sicilian director Giuseppe Tornatore has been in Japan for promoting his last movie Baarìa which in Japan is known as シチリア　シチリア(Sicily Sicily), which has been also presented during 2009 at the Tokyo International Film Festival. Tornatore is famous in Japan mainly for his movie New Paradise Cinema, but also for Malèna and other movies. Even if the movie did not obtain a great success all over the world, probably the Tornatore's fame in Japan together with the marketing supporting the movie it is not impossible that Baarìa could obtain good results in the country of the rising sun.

Anche il 2010 è arrivato alla fine e si parla spesso di bilanci e di prospettive per l'anno che viene. Personalmente non sono abituato a fare il resoconto di quello accaduto durante l'anno perché vedo il passare degli anni come una cosa normale. Ma per questa volta ho deciso di stilare una corta lista degli eventi importanti (sia positivi che negativi) che hanno in qualche modo influenzato la mia vita nel 2010. Ad ogni evento darò anche un punteggio da 1 a 5, dove 5 indica l'assoluta positività dell'evento mentre l'uno indica l'opposto.

Marzo: a causa di un prof perdo un PhD in Giappone e la mia laurea viene rimandata di 4 mesi -> 1

Luglio: ottengo la laurea specialistica in Bioinformatica -> 3

Luglio: trovo subito un lavoro in Giappone in una azienda biotechnologie -> 5

Agosto: il prof di cui sopra viene rimosso dal suo incarico (indovinate perché) -> 3

Agosto: l'azienda Giapponese combina un disastro con il mio visto ed ho dovuto dunque rinunciare all'impiego -> 1

Settembre: ottengo una posizione come PhD alla Technical University of Denmark -> 5

Dicembre: nasce la mia terza nipotina Alice -> 5

Vista la media dei punteggi bisogna ammettere che il 2010 è andato abbastanza bene :) Bisognerebbe fare anche una lista delle cose da fare nel 2011, ma siccome sono un po' troppe dovrò prendermi ancora un po' di tempo per pensarci.

2010 Ends

2010 will soon be gone and all people talk about how 2010 was and have dreams and expectations for the new coming year. I admit I am not used to look back to the passed year but I also admit that if I do it then yes, I can see differences between different gone years. This time I will write down a short list of the events that influenced my life (both positively and negatively) during 2010. I will also give a score to those events, a score ranging from 1 (extremely negative event) to 5 (extremely positive event).

March: because of a professor I lost a PhD position in Japan and my graduation has been delayed of 4 months -> 1
July: I graduate in Bioinformatics -> 3
July: I found a job in Japan in a biotech company -> 5
August: the above professor has been removed from his charge (try to guess why) -> 3
August: the Japanese company where I found the job messed up with my visa and I lost my new job -> 1
September: I get a position as PhD in Bioinformatics at the Technical University of Denmark -> 5
December: my third niece Alice is born -> 5

Looking at the average scores, I am happy to admit that 2010 was quite positive after all :) I may also do a list of the things I would like to do in 2011 but it would be too long so I am not sure I will ever do it. Happy new year for now :)

IPhone e studio del Giapponese (2)

Circa due anni fa avevo mostrato in un altro post la possibilità di utilizzare l'iPhone nell'apprendimento della lingua Giapponese. Allora avevo mostrato un dizionario ed un programma per lo studio dei kanji.
Di recente ho invece re-installato sul mio iPhone un software secondo me utilissimo e comodo per lo studio dei verbi Giapponesi. Il programma si chiama katsuyo ed una interfaccia molto intuitiva che permette con molta facilità di coniugare i verbi Giapponesi. Katsuyo include inoltre delle funzionalità di ricerca sia in Giapponese che in altre lingue (l'Italiano non è supportato per ora).
Dulcis in fundo, il programma è gratuito (quando lo comprai io non lo era e non credo lo resterà a lungo) e non dovete fare altro che installarlo ed utilizzarlo.

Learning Japanese Language using IPhone

As been already 2 years since I wrote about useful software in the iPhone for studying Japanese language. In that post I shown you a Japanese language dictionary and a tool for studying kanji symbols.
Recently I re-installed a software called katsuyo. Katsuyo is a very useful tool to conjugate Japanese verbs. It comes with a very neat and easy to use user interface and I am sure will be useful to all of you who is studying Japanese or to people that (like me) do not remember sometimes how to conjugate a given verb. The software also comes with a search function and other smaller interesting functions.
To conclude, I inform you that the software is free (at the time when I installed the first time it was not and I am not sure it will be free for long) so that you do not have any reason not to try it. I hope it will be useful to some of you...

Totoro in Toy Story 3

Di recente ho guardato il film di animazione della pixar Toy Story 3 e ritengo sia davvero un bel film. Nella parte centrale del film la pixar ha inoltre riservato un cameo a Totoro, il personaggio creato dal Maestro Hayao Miyzaki. Totoro è un personaggio estremamente famoso in Giappone, e non solo tra i bambini, e davvero difficile trovare una persona che non lo conosca.
Indipendentemente da Totoro, Toy Story 3 è davvero bello e consiglio dunque di guardarlo.

Recently I watched the movie Toy Story 3 from Pixar, and I strongly recommend it. In the central part of the movie and in the ending credits, pixar dedicated a cameo to Totoro. Totoro is a character created 15 years ago by director Hayao Miyazaki. Totoro is so famous in Japan, among kids and adults, that is almost impossible to find something who does not know it.
Concluding, I really suggest you to watch Toy Story 3 (obviously not only because of Totoro).

Benvenuta Alice

Due giorni fa è nata Alice (la mia terza nipotina). Sia la mamma che la bimba stanno bene, ed Alice pesava 3,2Kg al momento della nascita. Per la seconda volta, purtroppo, non sono potuto andare a vedere la mia nipotina appena nata in ospedale proprio perché, ancora una volta, non mi trovo in Italia.
Beh, non mi resta che fare gli auguri a Baldo e Lorena, e ridare il benvenuto ad Alice.

Two days ago my 3th niece was born. She is healthy, with a weight of 3,2Kg, and the mom is healthy as well. For the second time I couldn't go to see my just born niece at the hospital because, again, I am not in Italy.

Diciamo che questa parte non veniva aggiornata da quando ho lavorato in Giappone. Siccome, a quanto mi dicono, ora sono un lavoratore mi pareva giusto scrivere due linee sul mio lavoro e su dove lavoro.
Dalla metà di Novembre lavoro al Centro per l'Analisi di Sequenze Biologiche (per gli amici CBS) al DTU di Copenaghen. In parole (molto povere) analizzerò delle sequenze di genomi di batteri e dovrò utilizzare delle tecniche di informatica (in particolare di Machine Learning) per scovare degli agenti patogeni (e/o non patogeni) all'intero dei suddetti genomi. Il gruppo di cui faccio parte ha come scopo primario l'uso di tecniche informatiche per risolvere problemi di immunologia.
Per non dilungarmi troppo in un post noiosissimo non darò ulteriori dettagli sul mio lavoro, mi fermo dunque subito ed evito di continuare a tediarvi...

My Job

Well, last time I wrote about my job was when I started working in Japan, so I thought it would be fair to write few lines about my new job.
From the middle of November I am working at the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis at DTU in Copenhagen. In very few words, I will analyze bacteria genomes and use computer science techniques (mainly Machine Learning) to find (and/or predict) pathogens (and/or non pathogens) inside the above genomes. The group I belong to has as it's main task, the application of bioinformatic techniques to solve problems related to immunology.
Since it would to long to give other details, and since I do not want you to fall asleep while you are reading, I decided that for this post is enough.... :D

私の仕事

日本で仕事始めた時で私の仕事を少しあなたたちに教えました。最近は新しい仕事を始めましたからまた少し教えて上げるだど思う。
３週間前からコペンハーゲンのDTUのCenter For Biological Sequenze Analysis で働いています。簡単説明で私はバクテリアのゲノムの中に病原体のジーネを探します。私の属するチームのマイン仕事はバイオインフォマティクスのツールで免疫学の問題を解いてみます。
じゃあ、上で書いた事は詰まらないだと思いますだからここから止めます。。。

Di recente non ho avuto modo di aggiornare il blog principalmente perché ci sono stati dei cambiamenti repentini nei miei progetti ed in quello che sto facendo. Riassumendo molto velocemente, dopo la laurea specialistica (14 Luglio 2010) avevo subito trovato un lavoro in Giappone in una azienda di Biotecnologie. A causa di un problema burocratico l'azienda (anche se una delle principali in Giappone) non è riuscita a fornirmi il visto che mi avrebbe permesso di lavorare e vivere in Giappone.
Risultato, ora faccio ricerca in Danimarca (a Copenaghen) al Centro per l'analisi di sequenze biologiche (CBS) all'università tecnica della Danimarca (DTU).
In un altro post parlerò del dipartimento in cui lavoro e cercherò di dare una descrizione di quello che faccio. Per ora posso solo dire che qui fa molto freddo, la birra è buona, le persone sono molto simpatiche e l'ambiente lavorativo è fantastico. Ah, dimenticavo...la Danimarca è in assoluto il paese più costoso in cui io abbia mai vissuto.

Update...

In the last couple of months I have been really busy mainly because of some unespected changes in my life plans. Summaryzing, after my master graduation (07/14/2010) I soon found a work in Japan in a biotechnology company. Unexpectedly, after they decided to employ me (which happened just after the interview with who was going to be my new boss) they found out that for some reason they were not able to provide me the visa (even though that company is the biggest biotech company in Japan).
The final result is that now I am working as a researcher in Copenhagen (Denmark), at the Centre for Biological Sequence Analysis (CBS), at the Technical Univesity of Denmark (DTU).
In another blog post I will talk about the place a work and I will outline what I am working on. As for now I can tell you that here is cold, beer is good, people are very nice (not only at work) and the working environment is ust wonderful. Oh, I forgot tell you that for sure, Denmark is the most expensive country among the places I have lived.

最近は本当に忙しいだった。私の生活の計画をは偶然変わりました。マスター卒業の後に早く新しい仕事を日本で見付けたけど後でその有名会社は私のビザ作る事が出来ませんでした。
今はデンマークのコペンハーゲンで検鏡しています。大学はDTUです、部門はCBSです。
後でまた私の仕事ことに教えます。今までは分かった事少しがあります。ここではビールは美味しいです、どこでも優しで面白い人がいます、同虜と上司が本当に良い人です。あ、一つ事がほとんど忘れた、デンマークが一番高い住んでた国です
