NOTES:

Meet the FOLKSPUN Tribe.

Khadi is a Hindi word for cloth spun and woven by hand locally; can be cotton, silk or wool. Gandhi made it into a political declaration of economic self-reliance.

NOTES:

Freesia (Pantone 14-0852) - a bright floral yellow is one of the Top 10 fashion colors for Spring 2014

Yellow is associated with jealousy, envy, betrayal and cowardice as well as optimism, sunshine and pleasure; the yellow pigment on the horse in the Lascaux cave is estimated to be over 17,000 years old; Vincent van Gogh famously sung the praises of this sunny hue in a letter he wrote from the south of France to his sister in 1888.

NOTES:

Researchers from Aarhus University put heart rate monitors on people participating in a firewalking ceremony, as well as onlookers who were friends & family and audience-members that were strangers. They found the heart beats of the friends’ and family members’ in the audience beat almost as one with their friend/relative firewalking, thus documenting social bonding in a clever experiment.

NOTES:

“The thing with Eli Gold [played by Alan Cumming] I wanted to look like if you touch him he would shatter. He’s so uptight! He wears mostly Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Paul Smith. I wanted him in two-button suits that feel very snugged to create that stiff look. Normally when a guy buttons a suit jacket and there are two buttons, he buttons just the top. Eli buttons both…it made sense because if he was going to have 10 buttons, he would button them all up. That’s his thing. His collar and tie are always done up, practically strangling himself. There’s always a perfect knot on the tie, and it’s just like relax, dude.” - costume designer Daniel Lawson of “The Good Wife” (via)

NOTES:

“Everywhere I looked: darkness so thick that the idea of light seemed inconceivable. Suddenly, I swirled down a tunnel of fire, wailing figures calling out to me in agony, begging me to save them. Others tried to terrorize me. ‘You will never leave here,’ they said. 'Never.

NOTES:

in the 1950s, scientists were able to induce mice to eat whether or not they were hungry by electrically stimulating the part of the brain that drives primal urges including aggression, sexual behavior & eating - called the lateral hypothalamus

more recently, scientists isolated the pathways between the lateral hypothalamus and the area dealing with emotion, the amygdala, and began stimulating these bridge-pathways aka BNST synapses; when their BNST synapses were stimulated, the mice gorged & when the pathways were shut down, even food-deprived mice had no interest in eating.

Hubristic language indicates a personality changing - and not necessarily for the better. Researchers publishing in the journal Cortex evaluated the speech used by Prime Ministers Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair & found it became distinctly hubristic as their terms went on. “Linguistic biomarkers of Hubris syndrome” - September 2013 (via)

When describing their crimes, psychopaths tend to use more words pertaining to reaching a goal (“because”, “so that”) as well as physical needs, including money, food & sex. “Hungry Like the Wolf: A word-pattern analysis of the language of psychopaths” by Jeffrey T. Hancock, Michael T.
