Japanese coffee artist Kazuki Yamamoto (previously featured here) is still hard at work in Osaka creating cappuccinos that are almost too cute to drink. Lately he’s been perfecting his 3D creations.

Not content with decorative 2D images, under Kazuki’s skilled hands frothy milk rises out of the mugs to resemble any number of pop culture characters that are sure to put a smile on your face.

Order two drinks and your beverages might be served up appearing to interact with each other. Coffee is already a great pick-me-up, but these kawaii beverages might be verging on over-the-counter anti-depressant territory.

You don’t need to have followed the Geyser of Awesome for very long to know that we’re great fans of Adventure Time. Twinzik Cosplay created these beautiful and impressively detailed costumes for Marceline and the Ice King flashing back to their days spent together as Marcy and Simon Petrikov. They’ve even included Marceline’s beloved Hambo toy (now available for us humans via Scope’s Item Shop).

Between the costumes, makeup, touching poses, and wonderful photography by Chou-wa Photography and Cosplay and Mineralblu, everyone involved has created a beautifully bittersweet and particularly awesome example of Adventure Time cosplay.

And now, even though it all happened 996 years ago, please excuse us while we go grab a hanky.

For a stunning series entitled Blackwater, Hawaii-based diver and photographer Joshua Lambus takes beautiful photos of luminous aquatic creatures against a perfectly black background that enables us to better appreciate just how incredibly awesome they are.

Lambus says, “Now being underwater I’m inundated with stories, struggles, triumphs. Seeing our fragile ecosystem inch ever closer to the verge of destruction pushes me to continue my work, not only for artistic value, but for a far greater purpose. I hope to tell a story and ask for help for those without a voice.”

Here’s hoping we’ll see some of these enchanting cephalopods in our dreams tonight.

These awesome photos are from the 2013 Weston Sand Sculpture Festival on the sandy shores of Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, England. Each year the festival has a different theme and this year’s theme is Hollywood.

“Since the festival started in 2006, themes have included Fairy Tales, The Continents of the World, Under the Ocean, Great Britain, and The Jungle. What began with two Dutch sand sculptors building a giant King Kong from 30 tonnes of sand has now turned into a world famous get-together of some of the niftiest hands in sand sculpting.

More than 20 of the world’s greatest sculptors from nine different countries are working away using 4,000 tonnes of sand from the beach.”

The festival opened on Good Friday and runs through the end of September.

Anyone who has spent time with a guinea pig probably knows how much they love to eat vegetables and endless piles of hay. (Pretty much more than anything.) But did you know that some guinea pigs also like to dress up in stylish clothing and headwear that reflects their unique personalities? Perhaps that’s why Japanese designer Maki Yamada opened an awesome online shop called Guinea Pig Fashion. There you’ll find a variety of clothing and fashion accessories custom-made for cavies. It’s undeniably cute and delightfully strange.

For the cavy who fancies lovely blonde locks topped by an adorable hat there’s the Straw Hat + Blonde Hair Extension.There are all sorts of pretty Dresses and Kimonos. The stealthy pig can don a tiny Ninja Costume while the more generally active and sporty pig has a selection of adorable Tank Tops< from which to choose. For an art installation entitled Ballroom Luminoso, artists Joe O’Connell and Blessing Hancock created and hung six awesome chandeliers from a concrete underpass in San Antonio, Texas. The chandeliers were custom-made using structural steel, recycled bicycle parts, and custom LEDs that project a field of silhouettes of sprockets, gears, and other shapes onto the blank slate of an otherwise unremarkable industrial surface.

From the artist’s statement about the project:

“Ballroom Luminoso references the area’s past, present, and future in the design of its intricately detailed medallions. The images in the medallions draw on the community’s agricultural history, strong Hispanic heritage, and burgeoning environmental movement. The medallions are a play on the iconography of La Loteria, which has become a touchstone of Hispanic culture. Utilizing traditional tropes like La Escalera (the Ladder), La Rosa (the Rose), and La Sandía (the Watermelon), the piece alludes to the neighborhood’s farming roots and horticultural achievements. Each character playfully rides a bike acting as a metaphor for the neighborhood’s environmental progress, its concurrent eco-restoration projects, and its developing cycling culture.”

When Marina Scarr first photographed this handsome Great Horned Owl in Fort De Soto Park, Florida, she thought the noble bird was alone. It wasn’t until she looked at her photo again later on that she noticed the owl was a proud parent caring for an owlet tucked into its feathered breast. The baby raptor blends in so perfectly, it’s practically invisible. That’s got to be one of the safest, softest places on earth. It’s a pretty awesome shot.

These gorgeous dresses are part of an awesome series entitled Wearable Foods. Created by Korean artist Yeonju Sung, each of these beautiful garments was elaborately made of edible materials such as red peppers, eggplants, bananas, green onions, lotus roots, white radishes, tomatoes, and red cabbage. The bottom two pieces are made of bubble gum.

While one may categorically define Sung’s good-enough-to-eat collection as sculptural foodwear, it is just as much a photographic series. The artist explains, “I create my own world of reality by generating a completely different set of images that contradict the conventional notion of food and clothes. As time goes by, the food from my work do go through a progression of disappearance due to the nature of food and gets gradually changed into the hideous state fading its shape and color in the process…”

New York-based art director Kaisa Haupt creates awesome sandwiches that look like all sorts of different creatures, animals, monsters, and other oddities. Kaisa then photographs and shares these delicious creations for an ongoing series entitled Sandwich Monsters.

Here you see “Captain Hamerica” (Marvel Comics), “Punxsutawney Phil’ly Cheeseteak”, the “Lox-ness Monster”, an “Unidenti-fried Flying Obj-egg”, a tantalizingly cute “Purrr-ito”, and the “Salami’ese Twins”.

Behold The Hounds of Geevor. These whimsical dogs are the work of British artist David Kemp, who uses found objects to create his art, “particularly discarded remnants of the mining industry in his area, on the Tinner’s Coast in Cornwall. Twenty years ago, he was alerted about a mountain of old boots that were to be buried, so he salvaged them.”

A friend, working on the maintenance staff at Geevor, watched a mechanical digger burying a pile of redundant miners boots, & gave me a shout, I drove over & filled my pickup with the discarded boots, not knowing what I might do with them. This discarded footwear was to become THE HOUNDS OF GEEVOR.

“Relics of a vast subterranean workforce that rarely saw the light of day, each of these Hounds fed up to three & a half families (seven boots per dog). Released from their underground labours, they now wander the clifftops, looking for a proper job”

David’s awesome rubber hounds proved so popular that he was commissioned to cast them in bronze for downtown Redruth in Cornwall. And he continues to make delightful dogs out of foorwear. Follow David’s blog to see more.

Reminiscent of Jeff Koons’ famous Balloon Dog sculptures, this 80-foot-tall inflatable red Balloon Dog is the work of artist Paul McCarthy. It was installed at the Frieze New York Art Fair.

We think it looks like either a fantastic new alternative to a bouncy castle or a great place to take a nap à la My Neighbor Totoro.

Nowtoo Sugi lives in Japan and likes to relax by creating awesome and unusually colourful works of latte art. It’s a truly delicious and delightful hobby.

Starting this past February, Sugi began using colored bartender syrups to, as the hobby artist says, “paint” on coffee. Sugi isn’t the only one to create colorful lattes, but is certainly one of the best.

So, for example, Sugi uses Blue Hawaii syrup for, well, blue and strawberry syrup for red or pink. The colors are mixed with steamed milk for variation.

It’s time for another awesome visit to the Department of Unexpected Interspecies Friendship. Back in April 2011 a Canada goose decided to nest in an urn at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY. Canada geese are monogamous animals who usually mate for life, but somehow this goose had lost her gander. Fortunately she wasn’t without protection.

A young male whitetail deer appeared and took up the role of guardian. Canada goose eggs incubate for an average of 24-28 days and the young buck remained close by the entire time. Whenever anyone tried to approach the goose, the deer rose to stand between them and the nesting bird. He also chased off an aggressive group of crows, who are known to predate on baby birds, the day before the eggs began to hatch. It wasn’t until the goslings hatched that the deer gradually began to wander from his self-appointed post.
