A country sanctuary for those who wish for a peaceful meditative escape from the city, nestled with in residential suburb, the Casamoro condominiums offers unparallel views and modern texture.The floating units reveal a communal café space below with access to the waterfront. The orientation of the individual units and elevated presence provides secure privacy for personal and intimate leisure.Casamoro Condominiums are set on the northern bank of the Han River, there are three units, with views of the river and more specifically, each unit corresponds to a specific terrain feature on the opposite bank. Parking space in on the second level and immediately offers a pleasant view of the river. The condominium units are then elevated above, allowing for added privacy and enhanced views.

Bailianjing park is located in the north of Pudong section of the former expo site, along the Huangpu river. Already opened during the China Expo 2010, the park claims its crucial role after the expo. While most of the expo structures are currently demolished, the park remains as a permanent public waterfront. Besides the maintenance of the china pavilion, the expo exhibition center, the Mercedes Benz stadium and the expo boulevard, it is unclear what will happen with the large amount of unoccupied land after the torn down of all the country and corporation pavilions. Continuing the theme of the expo “better city, better life” the green waterfront should function as an attractor of high quality urban developments. A series of art installations along the green belt are part of the landscape design. Among the designers for the different art installations was Taranta Creations.

Park life
If you visit the parks in shanghai, you will notice that the Chinese people use these public spaces extensively. From early in the morning till dusk, people come to the park to meet, exercise, eat or relax. You find people practicing tai chi, dancing, singing karaoke, drinking tea or playing the typical Chinese mahjong game. The objective of our design was to create sculptures that added more than only visually quality to the park. We wanted to create an installation that enables and facilitates this typical park life. Inspired by the diversity of Chinese recreational cultures, each sculpture is designated for a specific function to suit for multiple purposes. One sculpture will be equipped with microphones and a screen, so it can be used for singing karaoke. Another will contain trays to store chess and card games. In one of the pavilions you can place bottles, for keeping your drinks cold during the hot summers. Or you can dance on the tunes produced by the “jukebox” sculpture.

Tea pavilions
The sculptures are designed as small pavilions. This way we create a reference to the ancient Chinese Fengkafei tea pavilions, which have always been small centers for recreational and social purposes. Given the location next to the river, we decided to place the pavilions on poles. Not only does this protect the pavilions against a flood from the river, but also makes people aware of this existing threat. As a contrast to the normally gray sky that you usually will experience in shanghai, we choose to execute the pavilions in fresh and bright colors. The colors in combination with the shapes give the cluster of pavilions the appearance of candy. As we believe our pavilions can be the “candy” for people to visit the park. small wind turbines placed on top of the pavilions provide the pavilions with the necessary electricity. During the night the pavilions light the environment.

Bubble gate
At the start of the path that leads towards the pavilions we place a pavilion that represents the modern version of the old Chinese gate. The bubble shape gate is a reminder of the flamboyant architecture that we have experienced at the expo pavilions.

The 2,000m2 (21,500 ft2) land resulted from merging 2 corner-lots in a gated condominium.

Not only did the position of the house take into account the sloping contour of the land, but also its orientation (North), as to provide the bedrooms and social areas with the best possible sunlight.

The distribution on 3 floors arranged in perpendicular axes allows the land displacement to be overcome naturally, and makes the garden accessible from any floor:

The lower ground, semi subterranean and positioned in the lowest level of the land, parallel to the contour lines, houses storage areas, the mechanical room and garage – that standing on grid pillars.

• The ground floor, laid out as an L and accessible from the street through an S-shaped ramp, houses the service areas and the lounge/dining room – the latter, fully encased in glass, on one side overlooks the back portion of the land and merges with the pool deck through wide sliding doors; on the other side, is shielded from the sun and secluded from the street by a long sun baffle made of large vertical concrete slabs, unevenly placed along the whole facade.
The upper floor, a volume that stretches perpendicularly to the contour of the land and that, at one end, cantilevers towards the street, and at the other is planted on the higher section of the land, houses the bedrooms and the den – the latter opening onto a large wooden deck, build on the ceiling slab over the lounge/dining room.

The swimming pool is snug in the nook of the “L” formed by the social and service areas, and the slope rising to the higher sections of the land.

Pb Elemental Architecture have building the Phinney Modern house in Seattle, Washington.2510 sqft single family home located in Seattle’s Phinney Ridge neighborhood. This home was designed for a young family on a small in-fill lot. The lot was very challenging just over 2000 sft with a access easement covering a portion of the southwest corner. This created a situation where the building footprint covered the majority of the yard, so it was essential to capture outdoor space on the structure. This led to the reverse floorplan (living on the third level), allowing the main spaces to easily access outdoor space, light and view. The homeowners created a welcoming contrast by their choices in furniture and wall coverings. To maintain a visual connection to the street we designed the stair to the main living level to be transparent so you can see and feel the activity. The upper level opens to a West facing deck and exterior stair leading to a view roofdeck which overlooks Ballard and the Puget Sound.

Due to the individual weight of the user TriWing adapts slightly in shape and absorbs the impact of the actual forces. The chair aims at a playful use and is produced in a digital workflow from design to production. Furthermore TriWing generates a perception that is associated with handmade products due to its wooden materiality and tactile impression.

TriWing integrates four different sitting postures in one continuous shape. By flipping the chair along the longitudinal axis the furniture changes its posture and appearance and unfolds its multiple applications. TriWing can be used as dining-chair, lounge-chair, reading-chair or deck-chair. The seat height of the various positions is related to the particular use.

To celebrate the 70th edition of Pitti Uomo (the most important men’s fashion event worldwide held in Florence 11/14 January), Marzorati Ronchetti has entrusted Sybarite with the task of creating a design concept which can furnish an area by combining aesthetics and multi-functionality. The result is a module which sits on the borderline between business, leisure, entertainment, and hospitality. All of this is expressed in an organic and free-flowing form with great technological potential.

The project came into being in order to furnish the Buyers’ Club, a room used by members of the National Chamber of Buyers which this year is working with Fashion Illustrated to organise meetings and roundtables.

The concept: starting from the necessity to furnish an area of relatively small size, while equipping it with a series of seating options which are functional and welcoming at the same time, a sculptured arc was designed surrounded by some satellite bodies and decorative elements.

The central structure manages not only to maximise the space available, but also acts dynamically by stimulating people to get close to each other and thus encourage interaction and conversation.

It is called Archetto and is conceived as an independent module which can furnish a multi-functional environment. In fact by means of a few simple decorative elements a coherent environmental identity is created.

The arc gradually expands until it becomes a kind of wrap-around backrest, to allow privacy but without creating a real barrier.

Designed to be an autonomous island, equipped with sockets to recharge mobile phones and computers, Archetto is simultaneously open and closed, a visible and a private place.

So it is a very versatile concept which can be tailored by the inclusion of loudspeakers and a wireless connection, to meet all needs in a single space.

These technical features, when combined with the enticing look and design, make Archetto suitable for bars, restaurants, public areas in hotels and also places of entertainment.

It can be tailored in terms of colour and also in terms of its technology, and so Archetto is a single solution to a very wide range of needs.

On the walls of the room, white metal panels amplify the depth of the area and are decorated simply with a series of magnetic hangers: black swallow tails which highlight the relationship between depth and surface.

A work desk, chairs and low tables complete the room’s furnishings, distinguished by the simplicity of the lines and the contrast between black and white.

Technical features:
Archetto is made of high density polystyrene covered in fibreglass and shaped by a CAD-CAM project, with a gloss paint finish. This technology makes the structure very light and, being divisible in 5 modules, it is easy to assemble and transport. A series of sockets is housed in the metal base of the structure.

Sybarite is a young architectural practice based in London which is distinguished by its ability to combine the use of modern technologies with a vision of form inspired by natural elements, by organic and free-flowing silhouettes. Australian designer Coco Reynolds has created the Thread light.

It is simple in construction and can be quickly and easily assembled on site by the end user and adapted to work in any space. An additional threaded sleeve cast into the concrete base caters for two lengths of threaded rod that can be screwed in to suit. ‘Thread’ can be manufactured very economically using minimal materials quickly and efficiently. In addition to this, the light shade is made of recycled spun aluminium and the concrete base is made up of a concrete composite called Lithistone which is made up of a combination of ground minerals, recyclable and organic mineral pigments.

The only absolute requirement was that it had to be visually extraordinary with an indoor swimming pool. The layout centers around the double volume living and dining area. The dining area is placed on a platform to enhance the views towards the garden. The kitchen is more private while at the same time not entirely enclosed (it is open-plan, leading to the indoor pool area). The indoor pool and living area is enclosed with stacking frameless glass doors which gives the inhabitants the opportunity to completely open up the space. Drinks can be conveniently served directly to the pool via an in-water pool bar. The first floor is split with the children’s bedrooms on the one side, and the main bedroom on the other. The main bedroom has a small private lounge area and is open plan to the bathroom. Exterior louvers give privacy for the floor-to-ceiling glass showers. With the exception of the home theatre and the second guest room, which was added later, all rooms are north facing. Even the kitchen that is located behind the indoor pool receives direct north sunlight from the high windows set in the angled roof during winter.

The interior design team from M Square Lifestyle Design ensured that finishes and fittings accentuated the architecture of the home. All fittings were specifically designed and made to suit the architecture of the house. “The interior reflects the exterior with intersecting planes creating points of interest. The exposed steel roof trusses, steel I-beams, and the bent steel staircase tie the interior with the exterior and refer to the quasi industrial aesthetic of the home,” explains Phia van der Meulen of M Square Lifestyle Design.

The look was completed with contemporary furniture supplied by M Square Lifestyle Necessities.

Plants used were all indigenous and adapted to the area, while large sculptures by Anton Smit create visual interest in the landscape.
