BIG has today unveiled its designs for the world's first Hyperloop high-speed transportation system in Dubai, which is to feature pods that travel at "near supersonic speed".

In the design, a fleet of cubic pods transport passengers to Hyperloop's main transport hub before being loaded into larger capsules, which travel through a network of elevated tubes to their destination.

The Garden School – one of the nominees for this year's Designs of the Year awards – is located in the Changyang area of the Chinese capital's Fangshan District and was designed by local firm Open Architecture as a branch of the Beijing No.4 High School.

One of the key objectives of the local authorities was to provide students with a more natural and open-air setting than is typical of conventional inner-city schools, despite the limited dimensions of the site.

In the latest video from the youtube channel #donotsettle, architects Wahyu Pratomo and Kris Provoost explore OMA’s recently opened Timmerhuis in Rotterdam.

The 48,400 m2 complex in the center of Rotterdam has been built in steel, erected alongside and nestled within an existing municipal building from 1953 – its ambiguous mass tries to mediate between the existing buildings surrounding it.

Timmerhuis – a new mixed-use building that will house Rotterdam’s municipal offices and the Museum Rotterdam, conceived by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA)– is complete and open to the public since December 7, 2015. Situated in the city’s Laurenskwartier neighborhood, fifty percent of Timmerhuis is occupied by office space; the rest contains residential, retail, parking and the museum. Its innovative structural system allows for adaptability, while providing the city with a large public space on the ground floor.

Right from the 2001 international competition for a natural history museum in Lyon, the museum was envisioned as a “medium for the transfer of knowledge” and not as a showroom for products. The building ground of the museum is located on a peninsula that was artificially extended 100 years ago and situated in the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers.
In order to build a museum of knowledge, a complex new form had to be developed as an iconic gateway. A building that truly stands out can only come into being through shapes resulting from new geometries. It was important to the concept that the flow of visitors arriving from the city to the Pointe du Confluent should not be impeded by a building.

It is the central library for the campus and is located across from an auditorium that was built in 1966 by Van Den Broek & Bakema.
