The relationship between tourism and ecology attracts growing attention from business, customers and scholars, intertwining with issues like nature and local cultures protection, development sustainability and individual responsibility. The concept of ecotourism is at the centre of a tangle of terms, definitions and practices the meaning of which is often ambiguous or contradictory. To extricate such tangle the article proposes an analytical grid. A reflection on the declensions and critical knots of ecotourism highlights the tensions between ethics and market, pointing towards the overcoming of current models of tourist consumption.

Moving from the outcomes of a research on ethnic economies’ settlements in a number of cities in the Veneto Region, the article proposes a reflection on the correlation between the most commonly known ways of looking at urban spaces where the immigrants have settled, and on the consequent forms of intervention. The hypothesis of the necessity of a change in the most common ways of looking at these places by policy makers and researchers is introduced as well.

The author in this article would give some suggestions about the process of building a sense of belonging to a territory. In her argument she tries to connect the housing, the public, the citizenship. Infact, the public thing could be an unexpected output from some type of processes of public houses in disuse selfreclaiming and it could be read as a manifestation of the “right of the city”. The research field is the housing policies and the frame is the strong interaction between the physical and social dimensions of a territory.

The Thames Gateway, in East London is the highly celebrated and most important urban regeneration project in the UK. For decades it has performed as a testing ground for a wide range of tools and policies prior to their deployment throughout rest of the country. Revisiting its story allows us to unveil the evolution of urban regeneration, its success and its failures. It also highlights the actual effects of Conservative and Labour rhetoric and enables us to put in focus the relationship between urban regeneration and the role of London as a global city.

The aim of the Kenzo Tange Master Plan for Jesolo was to transform it from a seaside resort to a leisure town livable all year round. The Urban Plan had the same aim. The planning process, in some ways innovative, has been spoilt by an excessive offer for new buildings and often supported beyond reason, between contradictions, manipulations and elusions, to be used as a stake to play in negotiations. Some good architecture has been sometimes obtained, but this result can’t hide a new form of speculation.

The spatial impact of globalization was a major objet of analysis for Milton Santos, pointing to the fact that economic flows entailed different levels, intensities and orientations. Moreover, Santos distinguished hegemonic flows from hegemonized flows, where in the first case are fast and effective, and in the former far slower. This gramscian approach is useful to analyze Megaprojects in Latin America and particularly Santa Fe, in the western part of Mexico City, as a corporative development project inscribed in global hegemonic flows. Displaying a different speed than the rest of the city while developing in time into a corporative and real state hub, Santa Fe reveals itself as a device of economic power in the midst of a distant, impoverished and unrelated horizontality to global flows.
