Diving Browning Passage at the northern end of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, is one of the most spectacular experiences in the Pacific Northwest. The sheer diversity and abundance of life is astonishing. At the end of one dive, ascending into rough and choppy surface conditions, I took this lucky shot of a green anemone as a wave washed over it.

Each day five million jellyfish glide across the surface of Palau’s Jellyfish Lake to follow the sun—streaming eastward in the morning and westward in the afternoon—in a stunning daily migration. At night, the jellyfish sink down 45 feet (13 meters) to absorb nutrient-rich bacteria, which the algae in their bodies require to survive.

An elephant group is on the move in Samburu National Park in Kenya. African elephants migrate in search of water sources during the annual dry season. The elephants of Mali make the longest known elephant migration, advancing 300 miles (482 kilometers) through the arid Sahel during their annual circuit.
