Cincinnatti Ohio ~ Rubber Duck

This Big Rubber Duck sits on top the Grant Thornton building in Cincinnatti, Ohio. This can be seen from I 71. I am not sure that they leave the duck up year round but it is there in August getting ready for the Rubber Duck Regatta.

In Cincinnatti, the rubber duck is the symbol for The Rubber Duck Regatta. It is where the Freestore Foodbank hosts The Rubber Duck Regatta during Riverfest (The end of summer). This usually takes place the first week of September.

People buy small rubber ducks and all the ducks are dropped in the Ohio River during the Riverfest. The owner of the Duck that crosses the finish line first wins a huge prize, one year it was a car. Then there are smaller prizes given out also.

There have been as many as 142,000 small ducks dropped in the river. The Freestore Foodbank uses the money it makes to feed hungry families throughout Greater Cincinnatti.

Most Botanical Gardens I have been to are ho hum and not very enjoyable for the kids. In the Cleveland Botanical Garden, they get the kids right in there with their Humongous lady bugs, giant flowers and HUGE garden tools.

In the Wonderland of Fanciful Display, the kids can run free in a hedge maze, they can also join in an imagination tea party and there is so much more for them to do.

Not only will the kids enjoy the Cleveland Botanical Garden, but adults will love all the different flowers and displays they have set up along the way.

If you happen to be in Cleveland, Ohio and are looking for a place to visit, this is a must see.

Montana's Country Cafe ~ Marble Pennsylvania

We are always looking for a new place to eat when we visit my Daughter in Leeper, Pennsylvania. I know we have driven by this place 100 times and to tell you the truth, I never seen it.

It is pretty far out in the country and I am pretty sure they only get the locals. Since we had never been here before, we had no idea what to expect or if the food was good.

There are a couple of rooms to sit in and we tried to sit as far away from the door as possible. It was cold that day and I didn't want to freeze every time the door opened.

You can't see very well, but they have fresh homemade pies in their little display case.

Because I try to eat for the candida diet, I have a hard time at most restaurants finding anything to eat. They usually drown everything in butter.

When our waitress came over to take our order (by the way... she is a friend of my Granddaughters) anyway, I ask for my steak grilled with no seasoning and my carrots with nothing on them... the same for my potatoes. I don't usually eat white potatoes but sometimes you gotta eat what you can find.

Everything came just the way I ordered it.

When a restaurant can get my food the way I want it.... I will go back.

Not only did I get my food the way I wanted it but everyone said how good their food tasted. My Daughter got a hot roast beef sandwich and my Hubs ordered Country Fried Chicken.

My Daughter told me this restaurant was in Fryburg, Pa, but it is actually in Marble which is just up the road from Fryburg.

San Jaun National Historic Site ~ San Juan Puerto Rico

The San Jauan National Historic Site includes many forts, including Castillo San Cristobal, Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Fortin San Jaun de la Cruz , which locals call El Canuelo.

We visited so many forts that I got kind of bored with them. The guys enjoyed them because some of them had a lot of old relics they could look at.

If you are interested in touring old forts and are ever in San Juan, you will be in your glory.

Look how high up I got. I didn't think I would ever make it up there.

We tried to get a picture of us through a little archway, but even with the camera flash, everything was dark. I love the back round though.

Gardens Of Villa des Pitons ~ Heaven on the Hill ~ Soufriere St Lucia

They have some very beautiful gardens here and well worth spending some of the day site seeing.

This is the first time ever for me to see how nutmeg grows. I even bought some fresh nutmeg. It tastes nothing like what I use from the bottles I buy. Fresh is the best.

I just enjoyed looking at all the beautiful tropical plants and flowers.

If I had the chance... I would live where it is warm year round!!

Most times, when we are on our way to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, my Hubs makes sure he stops at Soergels to get me my bread that is made without sugar, gluten or yeast.

They have the biggest selection of breads for me that I can find around our area. The Millet Bread is my favorite and my Hubs will even eat it when he runs out of his yeast bread.

Dinah's Botanic & Historic Herb Garden ~ Curacao

Hahaha... sorry we only got half the picture of the sign. Not sure what was up there.

While on our cruise, this is one place I didn't want to miss. I am very into herbal healing and wanted to check out Dinah's Botanic & Historic Herb Garden in Curacao.

Even in you aren't into herbs like I am, this is just a beautiful place to visit and spend some time.

Since my digestive system is not what it should be, I was very interested in the digestive herbs.

Dinah's son now does the tours and he does a very good job of it. After the tour, you get to go to their shop where they sell all the herbs they grow.

I don't know if any of you watch the Bachelorette, but this is where Emily Maynard had a romantic date I think this is where she gave one of the guys the boot. I am not sure of the guy she booted... can't remember his name.

If you are looking for Asian (Chinese) food, this is a great place to shop. I make sure I go there every time I go to the Strip District.

When they bring out their Tofu, it is still warm and Cheap!! I think I only paid maybe 30 cents a square. That is a very good price.

I am not sure what these are but they sure look gross.

They have a large selection of fresh fruits and vegetables besides all the rice and other grains they sell.

My problem is... most of the packaging is written in Chinese and I have no clue what a lot of it is.

What a spectacular view you have of Detroit, Michigan while walking along the Windsor, Ontario Riverfront Walk, Probably the best veiw ever.

While you are walking the Riverfront Walk you will not only will you get to see the Beauty of Detroit from the Windsor side, but you will get to see many sculptures that are along the way. They are spaced out for your enjoyment for about 2 miles.

Sorry, for some reason none of the sculptures I took pictures of turned out. I will get them on my next trip there.

Also along the Riverfront Walk you will see the Bert Weeks Memorial and Fountain.

I had been to the Wooden Nickel Buffalo Farm many years ago, so when we were driving by, I told my Hubs to stop so I can take a look.

During the summer at the Trading Post, they have a little fest where vendors can come to sell there wares. In the winter, not much goes on.

Erie, Pa is in the snow belt and gets a lot of snow dumped on them from Lake Erie

St Lawrence Catholic Church ~ Hillsville, Pennsylvania

The St Lawrence Catholic Church was built in 1906 for the Italian Catholics of Hillsville, Pennsylvania. It was a wood frame church and burned down in July of 1930. The brick Church pictured above was built and dedicated in March 1931.

We were driving on Route 422 when I spied this old church I told my Hubs.... STOP!! I want to get a picture. Well, I kind of shrieked it.

I only wish I could have gone through it, and maybe I could have had I ask.

Blues Trail ~ Cotton Pickin Blues ~ Hopson Planting Co. Clarksdale Mississippi

One of the major factors behind the great migration of African Americans from the South to the Northern Cities was the mechanization of agriculture, which dimished the need for manual labor.

The Cotton Pickin Blues Marker (Clarksdale) is located right off Commissary Cr.

Clarksdale, Mississippi is the Birthplace of the Blues and is also the location of the famous crossroads intersection Highway 49 and 61

In 1944 the Hopson Planting Co. produced the first crop of cotton planted and harvested and baled by machines.

Outside of the Hopson building are all different kinds of old cars, trucks and machinery

There is so much to see at this little stop. Lots of older homes around (not pictured). I wasn't sure if anyone was living in them or not. Most of them looked like shacks.

The Hopson which was once a working plantation, now has live music and is home of the Shack Up Inn.

Mississippi Blues Trail Marker ~ Beale Touwn Bound ~ Hernando Mississippi

Beale Town Bound

The Hernando area was the birthplace of and important group of musicians who helped establish Memphis as a major blues center in the 1920s.

These include Jim Jackson, Robert Wilkins and Dan Sane, who was the partner of Beale Street blues pioneer Frank Stokes.

Jug band leader Gus Cannon, who is buried nearby, also performed here before settling in Memphis.

Other local natives include George "Mojo" Buford who played harmonica with the Muddy Waters band, and guitarist Earl Bell.

By the way, Gus Cannon wrote the song Walk Right In. I know some of you have heard it and many of you are way to young to remember it.

I just love Cypress Trees and since I live all the way up North in Pennsylvania, I don't get to see them. In fact, this is my first time seeing them in real life.

I was trying to get a close up of a cypress tree that had the knees sticking out... but you know how you can't see what picture you are taking when in the sun? Well the above picture is what I got!!

Early in January, we headed SOUTH to Tunica, Mississippi thinking we were going to get away from the cold, snow, rain and ice. Little did we know Mississippi was getting hit with winter storms also. So much for getting away.

While we were in Tunica, we stopped into The Gateway To The Blues Visitor Center, while there, my Hubs found some Pecan Oil for sale that was produced by a local pecan orchard Delta Pecan Orchard.

When I found out they were in the next town over Tutwiler, Mississippi, I wanted to go see the pecan orchard.

Of course it being winter, I only got to see bare trees but they own something like 150 acres in pecan trees. Thats a lot of pecans!!

They don't have a store on site, but they do have their online store Delta Pecan Orchard

We stopped in to say Hello and of course buy some more pecan oil

This is just some of their pecan oil. I am going to be making Pecan Pancakes and having my Inlaws over for a breakfast.

Tunica Mississippi Can't Take Any More Rain ~ Rain Rain Go Away!!

Living up North, in Pennsylvania, we hardly ever see flooding like this, not that we don't get floods and a lot of water sometimes. It just seems the ground here in Tunica, Mississippi is drenched and can't hold any more water.

No matter where we drove, even going to Memphis, Tennessee, there was more water than the ground could hold.

Signs and poles were all surrounded by water.

Here is a driveway that now leads into a body of water.

If I wouldn't have known these were cotton fields, I would have thought it was a lake.

It finally stopped raining and it looks now like everything is getting back to normal.

Does anyone know if this always happens in Mississippi when it rains a lot or if this is something out of the normal?

DeSoto County Courthouse Murals ~ Hernando Mississippi

This present courthouse was built in 1942 after the previous French Castle Courthouse burned in 1940.

When I heard there were Hand Painted Murals in the Desoto County Courthouse, I wanted to go in to get pictures.

When I get into the Courthouse, they have a scanner that you go through so you don't take any knives or other unwanted hardware into the building. First, I tried to go through with my camera. That set the alarm off. I put the camera down and tried to go through again. I told the guard that my Hip Replacement would for sure set it off again.

Well, the nice guard let me go through so I could go up to the second floor and take pictures of the hand painted murals. Sorry they are not as beautiful as in real time but there was a glare coming through the windows that showed on every painting.

Oh.... I forgot to say that these were hand painted and then restored. I found 4 of them. There are 2 more on a back wall that you can't see. The Murals depict Hernando DeSoto's discovery of the Mississippi River

Memphis St Cafe ~ Diners Drive Inns And Dives Stop ~ Hernando Mississippi

I think I have said before that every time we go into a town and they have a restaurant that has been visited by Guy Fieri who does the show Diners Drive-Inns and Dives, we have to stop.

Actually, we had no idea this was a restaurant that was on the Diners, Drive-Inns and Dives until my Hubs went in to check it out.

I happened to be in the Desoto County Court House across the street taking pictures of their murals and Hubs was checking out the town.

This is the building the restaurant is in. From across the street, it looks like it is going to be a big place to eat in.

When I crossed the street, I seen the sign pointing left. So okay, left I go.

And down we go into the depths of the restaurant which is in the basement of the building.

Right inside the front door, was the poster signed by Guy Fieri. Very cool!!

Hubs ordered the Reuben that is made with homemade saurkraut. That was the reason he ordered it. We make our own homemade saurkraut and it tastes so much better than anything you can buy. You really should try to make your own. Once you do, you will never want to eat store bought again.

Hubs said this was probably the very best reuben he has ever eaten. That made up for the crummy waitress we had.... but there was another girl.... not our waitress who made sure we had napkins etc. Wish I would have gotten her name because she was great. So thank you to the waitress with short blond hair. They need to train the other girl to be more like her. I even had to get up to get my own silverware. Whats up with that??

Children young and old, from far and wide come to Kraynak's. Christmas time is especially busy at this store. They go through a lot of trouble to set up a Christmas Display that the whole family can enjoy.

But when he seen the Peanut Gang... he was absolutely thrilled.

If you look, you will see tree after tree decorated in a theme. What you see is not all. There are more trees..... Lots more. I would guestimate there are much more than 60 decorated trees in different themes.

Kraynak's is actually a nursery and sells plants and planting supplies all year long. Not only do they sell plants, but toys, knick knacks and so much more.

At Easter time, they do a Easter Bunny Lane that is also spectacular

This place has EVERYTHING!! Not only does it have cheese, but all kinds of other healthy and not so healthy foods.

Below is a shelf of just gluten free foods. There is more, but I only took this one picture.

I also found sugar free cookies here that is sweetened with Agave instead of sugar. I can do agave but sugar is something I stay completely away from.

When I say this place has everything.... I meant it. This is a disk that keeps your brown sugar from clumping. Even though I eat totally sugar free, My Hubs still eats sugar and loves brown sugar on his oatmeal in the mornings. This little disk helps keep it soft. I only paid like $3 for it.

This is part of the Cheese Factory above. It is huge and there is much more factory than what is pictured.

New Wilmington is Amish Country so I couldn't leave without taking a picture of the the cornstalks done the way Amish do them.
