Good Monday: That Go Bag

So one thing I learned this week is that if your intention is fun, you’re more likely to follow through. I have the bag and a water bottle and inhaler and Kleenex and the ever necessary poop bags in it with plans for adding the rest of the stuff like my phone as I go (everybody should have a go bag), and I’m filling several small bags with the basics–kleenex, inhaler, poop bag–so I can just grab and go for shorter walks, and I’m going to put up a hook board (that I already had to hold all this stuff and it’s making me feel very organized and adult. And I ordered one of those collapsible bowls for his water, too, thank you all for the suggestions.

My good intention for next week is to get that all done and the hook board up. And to get the last of my kitchen counters cleaned off because it’s past time.

Good Sunday: The Perfect Gift

I’m big on using gifts to characterize people, especially guys. No matter how tough and tamped down a love interest is, if he gets the gift right, he’s good. Like Zack gave Lucy a stray dog and Shane gave Agnes an air conditioner, I needed something that took Nate out of his comfort zone. So in Arresting Anna, there’s an engagement party–they’re not engaged, they’ve told everybody they’re not engaged, but her mother is a force of nature so there’s an engagement party. He’s got a nice suit and knows he should be bringing her flowers, but he has no idea what she likes, so he asks her best friend, who says, “Give her what she likes,” which is not a help, and “It doesn’t have to be flowers,” which is. So on the night he brings her a big bouquet.

Of Snickers.

I had to see if it would work so I made a Snicker’s bouquet. It involved eating some of the leftovers, but in general it worked just fine. It’s too dark now to take a picture but I’ll add one once it gets light.

Good Monday: Walking with Intent

So my dog is definitely prolonging my life because he has to be walked three times a day, which means I have to be walked three times a day. But yesterday was gorgeous and it made me think about staying out longer, giving Johnny more time outside and me more sun. And I began to plan.

I love planning.

So my plan is to get a bag that’s just for walking and stock it with a water bottle for me and a water bottle for Johnny, and poop bags because we’re responsible, and a rescue inhaler for my asthma which is under control but it’s also allergy season, and treats for Johnny because he’s a Good Boy, and a flashlight for our midnight walks, and some Kleenex for my drippy allergy nose, with enough room in the bag for a notepad and pen and a crochet project and an old sheet or something we can spread out on the ground and just unlax. I have ordered all of that those things that I did not have and gathered the things that I did. Everything should be here by Wednesday, so I can report next Monday on how it all worked out.

I have a plan and it’s going to be fabulous.

Good Sunday: The Weather Edition

It’s been balmy and sunny in the 70s here, and I’d forgotten how good beautiful weather could make me feel. It’s like the world’s waking up again–a cliche, I know–and stretching and smiling. Or maybe that was me.

I stayed up until six AM, fell asleep, walked the dog, did the dishes, fell asleep . . . I should start doing Wasted Mondays. Although the dishes did get done.

Uh, what’s the good intention for the week? Mine is to get out of bed.

Good Sunday: Bananas and Mushrooms

I’d had some depression problems lately, but this week I started to cook and bake again. Banana bread with whole wheat flour and lots of nuts, spaghetti with tons of onions and mushrooms and oregano, stroganoff and chili and brownies (with lots of nuts) and . . . basically, comfort food all over the place. I’d forgotten how soothing it was to cook and bake, and how rewarding it was to eat food I loved that I didn’t have to feel guilty about (okay, there were some chocolate chips in there, there’s a limit to everything). Good food is a good thing.
