On March 30, 2012, all Facebook Pages will get a new design, although Page owners can choose to publish their Fan Page with the new look sooner if they like.

The new layout will use the Timeline layout, which has been in effect for personal pages for a few months. It’s a dramatic design shift from the layout of the traditional Facebook Wall that Pages have had until now.

In the new Timeline layout, the cover photo is the first thing people will see when they visit your page. This “billboard” image spans the width of the top of the screen. It can be used to highlight an image that represents your brand and you can change it at any time.

Your profile picture represents your Page on other parts of Facebook, like in your fans’ news feeds. You can use your logo or another image that represents your page.

Photos, likes and apps are now at the top of your Facebook Fan Page just below the Cover. Photos show in the first spot. This slot cannot be changed, but the other apps can be reordered so that people see what matters most to you. You can show a maximum number of 12 apps.

For pages with timelines, visitors will always see the timeline view of your Page. Custom Facebook Fan pages, or “brand” pages, can no longer be set as the default landing page. Until the switch happens, page admins can preview their page in the Timeline view, review changes, and can change back to the traditional view or publish the new view at any time.
