a) use any of the many online webtools to compare yourself and you could do worse than looking at Website Grader
b) use some of the Google analytical tools - and one of the best is addwords - sign up for a small weekly amount and then just use the tools and suggestions as an SEO tool.
c) get someone else to do the legwork for you and come back with a report.

We have been working hard at developing a number of Search Engine Optimisation packages for our customers.
There are a number of components to making your site visible to search engines, the first of these is to actually have a site that is well composed and put together. Including, of course, having relevant content on your site. Inbound links - i.e. links from other websites pointing at your site - should ideally be authoritative in order to really count for something. Though you do tend to find that the sites that are high ranking on Google do in fact have a large number of inbound links.
One thing that I have found about really developing a web presence is that you cannot get round the hard work. But doing the work is lots of fun. Having a good company to help you is a real must if you simply do not have time for all the work required.
