Well a busy start to (almost) summer it has been. Beautiful weather we have had so far. One cannot complain :).

I am now back in Toronto for a little while after some travel to New York, Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa. It was an enjoyable time in each city.

Finally, I went to the Museum of Civilization in Ottawa. There they had Maya Math and a spotlight on Mayan artifacts , some of Van Gogh's most widely recognized works of art, and an assortment of other artists work displayed.

Last month, eight hundred and seventy thousand photographs, illustrations, movies, maps, and other media from the New York City Municipal Archives were made public in an online archive, together forming a remarkable visual survey of the city from 1858 to the present. Uptown and downtown, highbrow and lowbrow, the collection contains photographs of everything from the Brooklyn Bridge under construction to Depression-era murder scenes to children enjoying the Central Park Zoo.

I finally made it to the Picasso Exhibition at the AGO. (imported from the Musée National Picasso in Paris).

I have seen his works (as many have;) in various galleries around the world - most recently being MOMA but found this collection in Toronto to be rather interesting as it is only making seven stops worldwide. The exhibition showed a large collection of his work, from photographs and works on paper to oils, bronzes and sculptures - apparently one of the largest of his collections ever seen on this continent,

The last Picasso show in Toronto, entitled “Picasso and Man,” was held in 1964.
Open for five weeks, it is said that the "landmark exhibition" drew more than 106,000 people during its five-week run.

As you know, I do enjoy galleries and this exhibition did not disappoint. I do have an appreciation of art regardless of where it is located and in so many forms. It is such a great opportunity to be able to have some exposure to it wherever you are.

What Lumiere invented was a portable motion-picture camera, film processing unit and projector called the Cinematographe, three functions covered in one invention.

I visited Musée Lumière, once while in Lyon. The museum itself was quite elegant, but the early machinery and photographs were amazing.

How interesting it is to look back and see the creativity as well as the ingenuity behind these early stages in film.

I had always thought that a signature drink was one that you always ordered when out or a drink you were always known to order. According to AskMen, this term is used to describe an "invention beverage" - when you have run out of whatever it is you usually enjoy and are left with whatever you have on "hand":).

AskMen came back with a submission of "Signature Drinks" from their readers.

"A quick, easy and more adventurous version of the Old Fashioned"

1 Part Burbon
1 Part Triple Sec
1 Part Jägermeister

The Sombrero Italiano

1 Ounce Campari
1 Ounce Tequila
1 Ounce Sweet Vermouth

Assemble ingredients over ice in a rock glass.
Garnish with an orange rind

Recently, I met with a Gentleman friend from Rome who comes often to Toronto for work. He told me of a tour he once did here of the St. Lawrence Market. A true culinary experience. I actually did not know that you could hire someone to give you a tour through the Market, a place I frequent often.. but I guess it makes sense.

Apparently, you can arrange to meet Bruce Bell, a popular history columnist for the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Community Bulletin and he will provide a culinary tour of the Market.

"As the official historian of the St. Lawrence Market Bruce has special access to all sorts of areas of the building that other people never get to see."

My friend enjoyed the tour which included the history of the building itself, exploring the bowels of the building (I did not know that in the earlier times this area was used as a prison!), the grounds surrounding the Market and of course samplings at the numerous bakeries, butcher shops, fish mongers, fruit stands, delis, dessert places and specialty vendors of all kinds.

Sounds like an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon in Toronto.. It is fun at times to play tourist in your own city. Would anyone like to join me :).

A 12C high today the first week of March.
What a nice treat. March "In like a Lion out like a Lamb".. maybe not this year..

I must remind you or perhaps just myself that daylight savings is this Sunday, (Spring Forward).

Last Fall I forgot and couldn't figure out why all of the clocks were an hour behind with the exception of my battery run clock. Everything else just changes automatically. It didn't take me to long to figure it out :).

It sure has been mild here in Toronto and I guess one can't complain.. We still have February and March to get through. Met with a Gentleman friend who had recently been skiing in Utah.
