The Chandler Arts Commission is looking for Arizona-based artists to add to a pre-qualified Community Arts Engagement list. Artists on this list may be commissioned to create participatory community art engagements for City of Chandler events and festivals.

What are community art engagements? Here’s how we define them:

Interactive: community members participate by making something

Collaborative: participants are working together on a collective effort rather than an individual masterpiece

Connective: the activity encourages participants to engage beyond a surface-level interaction – ex. socially, emotionally, intellectually, artistically

While we do not have a limit for how many artists will be added to the Pre-Qualified list, we have several events that we are planning to hire for in 2026-2027, each with a $1,000 – $3,000 budget. This budget will cover all aspects of the project including, but not limited to, design, project management, materials, creation / installation, and time spent leading the activity on the day of the event (most events are a single day, lasting 4-8 hours).

Artists working in all media are welcome to apply, including visual artists, dancers, musicians, theatermakers, and more.

This is a request for qualifications, not a request for proposals. We are only requiring examples of past work. Selected finalists will be given additional information and be paid a stipend for their designs.

Artists who applied and were selected for the pre-qualified Community Arts Engagement list in 2025 do not need to apply again.

Events We are Commissioning For:

Chandler Contigo Kickoff Fiesta – Saturday, September 19, 2026

The Chandler Contigo Kickoff Fiesta marks the start of the City of Chandler’s Hispanic Heritage month festivities. This colorful half-day event held at the Downtown library includes music and dance performances, storytelling, food, art activities, and more with thousands of intergenerational attendees

Chandler Multicultural Festival – Saturday, January 16, 2027

This dynamic festival honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the ideals of the civil rights movement, bringing people together to embrace cultures from around the world. It is an all-day festival drawing thousands of attendees of all ages

Chandler Innovation Fair – Saturday, February 20, 2027

The Chandler Innovation Fair showcases the businesses, artists, students and innovators in the community and offers unique opportunities for attendees to explore the discoveries of science engineered in their own backyard. It is a half-day festival drawing thousands of attendees, primarily kids and families.

Artists who are added to Chandler’s Pre-Qualified Community Artist List but not selected for a specific event this fiscal year may be contacted as other opportunities arise. Artists selected to create a Community Art Engagement will be notified no less than one month before the event.

Call Description

The City of Glendale Office of Arts and Culture is initiating a Valley-Wide Call to Artists to submit applications for a Veterans-Themed mural to be fabricated at Veteranos Park near Downtown Glendale.
On November 8th, 2025 Veteranos Park was officially dedicated as a location to honor the courage, service, and sacrifice of our nation’s Veterans. The event included the installation of three newly illuminated flagpoles, and serves as a location for Veterans, honored guests, and the Glendale community. The next phase of the City’s commitment to Veteranos park is a mural that will exist along the eastern and southern walls of the park.
One of the walls will be an honoring of the Military Branches, including the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force. Similar to the Military Seals that surround the USS Arizona Memorial at the Glendale Main Library, this wall will forever recognize the various branches of our military, and their unique and respective contributions to our cities, states, and country.
The adjacent wall will include a chronological history of significant military moments in US History. This can include Wars, Declarations, Treaty Signings, and other significant moments in American History. Any historical moments from 1776 to present day can be considered and included in this historical representation.
Together, the two walls will enhance the aesthetic of Veteranos Park, furthering the City of Glendale’s commitment to all who serve.

Wall Measurements (approx.):

Height: 6’
Width of East Wall: 48’
Width of South Wall: 110’
Total Square Footage: 960’

Materials:

Materials must be durable and appropriate for outdoor applications. Materials must be able to withstand direct sunlight, including protective coatings from constant UV exposure.

About Glendale, AZ:

As the sixth largest city in Arizona, with a population of nearly 255,000, Glendale is a premiere destination to live, work and play. Glendale features premium entertainment and shopping opportunities and a growing list of signature companies that call our city home. The city is also home to Luke Air Force Base and major defense contractors, including Lockheed-Martin, Magellan Aerospace and Honeywell. Other major employers include Red Bull, Global Credit Union, Ball, Bechtel and Nestlé.

ArtsEd West is dedicated to securing a well-rounded, artful education for all students. Passionate, highly trained and resourced teaching artists are pivotal to this work.

Our Teaching Artist Certification is a comprehensive 7-month program designed specifically for Arizona artists who are currently working in, or looking to enter, the field of K-12 education. Whether you are an established practitioner looking to refine your pedagogy or an emerging artist ready to bring your craft into the classroom, this pilot cohort is built to elevate your practice, expand your network, and solidify your impact.

This Pilot Program has limited registration with the cohort capped at 15 participants. Applications will be reviewed by an internal panel of content experts. Rating of applications for the purpose of program selection will include the quality of applicant responses, the order in which applications are received, and our commitment to provide services to a broad representation of teaching artists and communities, among other factors. Selection results including instructions for registration, if offered, will be delivered via email at least three weeks prior to the start of the program. Should an applicant decline to register or ArtsEd West does not receive a response from a selected applicant through all available contact information in the time frame specified in the offer email, the selection will be offered to the next highest rated applicant until the program is full (totaling 15 members).

Our hybrid model honors your time as a working professional while fostering deep, collaborative connections. The 2026 Pilot Cohort will run from July through January 2027.
