			<title>Watershed Stewards Academy</title>
			<link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ArlingtonEcho/~3/ToOGNRMrZzA/</link>
			<description>The
Watershed Stewards Academy provides training and support for current and
emerging grassroots leaders in neighborhoods throughout Anne Arundel County who
are interested in engaging members of their community in the environmental
restoration and sustainability. Each of
our neighborhoods contributes to our quality of life and the environmental
integrity of our waterways. The goal of
the Watershed Stewards Academy is:

To
give Master Watershed Stewards the tools to educate, engage and empower
citizens, businesses and communities to restore sub watersheds in Anne Arundel
County. Restoration efforts will
emphasize stormwater infiltration to restore watershed function. Small scale projects on homeowner property
may include, but are not limited to, rain gardens, rain barrels, green roofs
and native plantings. Larger projects
on community and business property may include, but are not limited to, bio-retention areas, living shorelines,
swales and parking lot retrofits.
Emphasis will also be placed on pollution source reduction via changes
in homeowner habits such as lawn care, septic maintenance and...

			<description>September 22-26, 2008

During the week of September 22-26, Arlington Echo will be celebrating Maryland Homegrown Lunch Week. As part of the Jane Lawton Farm-to-School Program, our school system is participating in this national initiative (http://www.farmtoschool.org) to bring locally grown produce into schools.

Our Supervisor of Food and Nutrition Services, Jodi Risse, has procured three items from local farmers that will be served in your cafeterias. Please tell your students to look for fresh watermelon, cantaloupe and plum tomatoes in the lunch line next week. This is a great opportunity to talk with students about how purchasing locally grown produce can be part of restoring the Chesapeake Bay. In addition, two schools (Annapolis Sr. High and Ferndale Early Childhood Center) have received...

			<title>Jane Goodall Visit!</title>
			<link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/ArlingtonEcho/~3/ToOGNRMrZzA/</link>
<description>Several of our Chesapeake Connections staff had the
opportunity to meet renowned primatologist, environmentalist, and humanitarian
Dr. Jane Goodall at the Roots and Shoots Fair at Gibson Island
Country School.
We shared details of our Terrapin
Connection program with her. She was very interested in our efforts and it
was a privilege to meet her. It was a day we will not soon forget! Thanks to
GICS for inviting us to participate!
