From the Editor:

Well the “parade season” is off to a great start! Even though the weather outside is still somewhat chilly, it is time to start thinking about the Fourth of July!

The committee has worked hard during the “off season” to put on another great parade. The March general meeting was well attended and already the entrant registrations are flowing in.

We think the theme – “Emblems of the Land I Love” – will encourage lots of creative entries. Remember: DECORATE!

Since last summer, lots of exciting things have been happening in Downtown Arlington and the road construction near UTA is complete. There should be lots of great spots to watch this year’s parade!

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Parade Fair this month. Come get great ideas and order parade T-shirts, created by an art contest winner from AISD!

What is a Parade Fair?

At the April General Meeting, we will be having our annual Parade Fair. What happens at the fair?

This is a great meeting, especially for first time parade entrants. At this meeting, you will be able to:

Talk to parade “veterans” about their experiences Get ideas for parade floats Look at pictures from past parades for inspiration
Find out about the bus barn and why it might be useful to your entry

See if having a float built by a professional would be right for your group
Set yourself up with a tractor to pull your float

Get a sneak peek at the parade route
Learn about important parade rules and changes to the rules for 2013

Chat with parade committee members
…and much, much more!!!

Don’t miss the Parade Fair!

The Parade Fair will be on 4/18/13 @ 7pm located in the City Council Briefing Chamber at 101 W. Abram St., Arlington, TX on the Third Floor.

Important dates to remember:

  • Last day to submit Early Applications with the $25 Entry Fee is 5/16/13 at the General Meeting.
  • Late Applications accepted between 5/17/13 and 6/1/13 with a Late Application fee of $25 ($50 total).
  • No applications will be accepted started 6/2/13. No exceptions.
  • You can submit an online application, and pay the fees, at http://participants.arlington4th.org/ (create an account and confirm your email address)

We have come up with another great theme for 2013!

“Emblems of the Land I Love”

It should provide a lot of opportunities for creative interpretations by parade entries! Start brainstorming now and remember that all entries MUST be decorated!

If you’ve already sent in an application and haven’t paid, you can log back in, view your application, and click on the PayPal link at the bottom of the page. If you haven’t submitted your application yet, get it in before we take the application down!

If you have any issues, email the administrator and let me know. I’ll do what I can to help out and make this new system goes as smoothly as possible.

On a side note, if you’ve created an account and have yet to get your confirmation email, please let the admin know asap and he’ll get you the link needed to finish the process. It may have gotten lost in a spam folder but I can regenerate the link and send it manually to you.

“America  has many emblems and symbols that represent the nation, including, but not limited to, the statue of liberty, the bald eagle and the Liberty Bell, so we believe parade entrants will find this theme one they can easily illustrate and depict,”  said Arlington 4th of July Association president June Owens. “A list of U.S. emblems will be posted on our website and Facebook page,.”

The parade will be dedicated to the educators of Arlington.

“They have significantly impacted the community and the nation through their work with individuals of all ages, helping them to become good citizens,”  Owens said.

The 48th annual parade, which consists of about 150 entries, will be Thursday, July 4 in downtown Arlington, starting at 9 a.m.

Applications for the parade will be on the website on March 1.  This year, entrants may pay their entry fee online via Paypal.  More information on the parade is available by calling (817) 330-9USA

The first general meeting for those wanting more information about the parade and/or to complete an application will be March 21, 7 p.m. in the Arlington City Council Briefing Room on the third floor of City Hall, 101 W. Abram St..

The Association is a non-profit, non-partisan, and nonpolitical organization staffed by volunteers.

Trophies are given in a variety of categories. A complete list of categories, rules and regulations are on the website.

Note from the President:

Well folks, we’re down to the wire for the 47th Annual Arlington Fourth of July Parade!

Heidi Moyer, along with her mother, grandmother, and daughter, representing four generations of Girl Scouts, will be honored as Grand Marshals in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of America. And congratulations to the winner of the 2012 t-shirt art contest, David S. of Nichols Jr. High. T-shirt sales benefit the local chapter of the Ulster Project and serve to promote the art curriculum in the AISD, as well as promote the Parade. Shirts can be ordered online and at the next General Meeting. They will also be available the day of the Parade in the staging area.

Note that we are moving the June General Meeting from the 3rd floor Council Briefing Room to the Council Chambers on the 1st floor. Signs will direct you to the meeting. June 21 is a MANDATORY meeting for all entries to pick up their Parade packets so they will be allowed entrance into the staging area the morning of the Parade. Don’t forget to DECORATE your parade entry! See you at the meeting and the Parade!

2012 Parade Association Service Project

The association will be collecting teddy bears to support Arlington Memorial Hospital’s Teddy Bear Clinic program, which serves local kindergarten classes. Round up new or gently loved stuffed bears and bring them to the May or June general meetings.

We will also be collecting teddy bears at the parade. For more info, email info@arlington4th.org.
