As a kid I was good at a lot of things. I picked up new skills without much effort, making me both the envy and target of my school mates.

It continued through high school, where I changed my mind about my future career at least once a month.

I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up. Or maybe, I wanted to be everything when I grew up.

I randomly chose a course to study and ended up in with a great job. Where I spent most of my time looking for others things to do.

I start new hobbies all. the. time. Then put them aside for the next new thing.

In the last few years I’ve considered studying interior design, book keeping, web design and copy writing. I’ve had a little business sewing children’s clothes, I’ve done some graphic design work on the side.

I’ve researched photography, gardening, simple living, HTML, creative writing, macaron making. I’ve dabbled in scrapbooking, crocheting, roller derby, book clubbing, quilting, cooking, running, pilates.

And then there’s all the things I want to do…

I find it hard to focus; to stick with things. I’ve always got a new project to be passionate about, but the passion wanes within a few weeks.

I rarely have a productive day because I’m too busy flitting from project to project. Never finishing one thing before being distracted by the next.

I get down on myself for not being able to finish things, or sometimes even start them.

But I’ve discovered that I’m not alone. In fact, I’m part of a cool little club.

We are the multipotentialites. Flitting, scanning, learning, seeking is what we do best.

That means you might see a strange assortment of things on the blog. Because this week I’m crocheting a blanket. But next week I might be obsessed with my garden again.

Keeps it interesting, hey?

What about you? Are you a mutipotentialite? Or can you focus on one interest for longer – a specialist? Or somewhere in between? Do you find labels useful or utterly ridiculous?!

SJW Mushroom Fields. How lovely are these little fellas?

The table set for a mushroom feast cooked by the most lovely Sammy and Bella; Peking Duck broth with duck and mushroom dumplings, followed by a delicate egg-net omelette filled with mussels and mushrooms and topped with pork belly and caramel sauce.

Dessert: A fanciful little scene of meringue mushrooms perched on mushroom soil and chilli infused ganache, garnished with tiny flowers and ginger cream.

I just have to make mention of our tour of the Gourmet Garden factory. I was struck by the enthusiasm of the employees AND the smiles on the faces of everyone we passed. This is a small company doing big things and doing them right. I was really proud to have been involved with them for this competition.

Check out some of the other wrap ups from around the web (they obviously consumed less wine than me last week and are stringing words together much more easily…)

If you were reading this blog at this time last year, you would have seen the recipes I cooked as part of the Gourmet Garden Blog Off/Cook Off competition.

They were apparently delicious enough to get me to the semi-final, where I had to cook against another blogger at the Good Food and Wine Show here in Melbourne.

I won! And the big final is taking place next week in Noosa (I know, tough gig, right?!)

To celebrate, I’m reposting one of the recipes that got me to that semi final, and I’m planning to compile the other recipes into a little ‘ecookbook’ that you can download.

This recipe is so quick and easy – perfect Friday night food. My kids love fish cakes; if your kids struggle to eat fish, this is a great way to disguise it and get all of those good oils and vitamins into them!

Thai fish cakes

Ingredients
500g firm white fish (I used red dory), roughly chopped
1 tbsp Gourmet Garden Thai seasoning paste
1 tspn red curry paste
1 tspn Gourmet Garden chilli paste (or to taste)
1 tspn Gourmet Garden coriander paste
1 tspn Gourmet Garden chunky garlic paste
1 egg
40g rice flour
2 tpsn baking powder

Place the fish, Thai herbs, curry paste, chilli, coriander and egg in a food processor and process until well combined. Add flour and baking powder and stir well. Roll into twelve patties with moistened fingers and refrigerate until ready to cook.

Heat 3/4 cup oil in a heavy based saucepan over high heat. Fry fish cakes for one and half minutes on each side or until cooked through.

I had every plan of writing a thoughtful and significant post to kick off the relaunch of this blog.

But, Mother’s Day is coming. And my handbag, bought for $25 eighteen months ago in all it’s manmade-material glory, is falling apart.

I am a little tired of fishing the contents of my bag (generally a couple of half eaten lollipops, a toy car, a squashed muesli bar and my phone and purse) from between the shell and lining which has torn in at least four places.

So I’ve done what any worn out mum with a worn out bag would do, and have thoughtfully put together a wish list of lovely bags that husband can peruse at his leisure. And purchase before Sunday.

1. This one is sitting in my cart over at the Country Road Outlet. At that price I’m not sure I can resist.

2. I have a love affair with gold and sparkly right now. A darling number from Witchery.

3. Nancybird has my heart forever. This one is on my ‘keep right on wishing’ list.

4. I was obsessed with coral over Summer, so why not extend the happiness into Winter? Another stunner from Witchery.

What’s on your Mother’s Day wishlist? Something indulgent and materialistic? A little bit of time to yourself? Or something created by little hands? (I’m going for the trifecta, just quietly…)

Rather than sob and grieve over A YEAR’S WORTH OF WRITING THAT I WILL NEVER GET BACK, I rather pragmatically figured that there were quite a few posts that I was <del>moderately embarrassed about</del> happy to lose, and the site needed a fresh start anyhow, so why not just start over?

Then I started setting up the blog again and realised how much work it all was.

But it’s here. It’s back. It’s not quite done, but I wanted to get started again.

Plus, I had some BIG NEWS to share. I’m about to launch a new blog!

I was really conflicted with the direction of this blog last year. I wanted to add in some of the productivity/tech stuff, but also keep it fun with lots of recipes and ramblings, but the two things didn’t seem to flow together.

So I am separating them, and launching my brand new blog soon. The focus will be on really easy tech hacks to help you through the day – like to do lists, organising recipes, backing up your important data. Aimed at the complete non-tech-head, there’ll be lots of laughs along with helpful tips!

To be one of the first to know when the site officially goes live, you can join the Facebook community, or sign up for email updates.

And I’d love to know what you would like to see more of on this blog. Recipes? Random waffling? Pictures of my lazy cat? Let me know in the comments! And let me know if you’re a tea or a coffee drinker. Because I want to know.
