For Chinese New Year 2012 or Lunar New Year in Singapore, an annual event is the River Hongbao 春到河畔 at The Float at Marina Bay. River Hongbao (RHB) has always been a key event for Singaporean residents and tourists to visit during the Chinese New Year.

River Hongbao will be celebrating its 26th anniversary in 2012.

One of the highlights of the coming River Hongbao 2012 is the Wonders of Guangxi

River Hongbao. It will be bringing the Guangxi’s specialties in food, dance, song and handicraft to River Hongbao visitors. Performers from the region’s ethnic minorities will entertain the audience with many song and dance items native to their individual tribes as well as excerpts adapted from the highly acclaimed movie Liu San Jie (刘三姐). Visitors will also have the opportunity to view traditional handicraft exhibits and get first hand experiences with live cultural demonstrations like caramel painting, paper cutting, rice carving and many more!

Lighting up the Bay
Possibly the largest lantern display in Southeast Asia, River Hongbao 2012 will see more than 60 exquisitely designed lanterns on display, adding to the spectacular view of the Marina Bay. Handcrafted by Chengdu craftsmen, this year will see a myriad of materials used and the marriage of traditional design with technical effects, creating livelier and more vibrant designs to bring the Float to life with lights, movement and sound.

Biggest ever River Hongbao Food Street
With more than 40 stalls, this year’s River Hongbao Food Street will be the biggest ever set up and aims to tantalize visitors’ taste buds with 70 varieties of New Year goodies and local hawker favourites like Hainanese Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak, Roti Prata and many more. Other than local fare, visitors will also have the rare opportunity to sample Guangxi local specialties specially prepared by Guangxi chefs like Guilin Rice Noodles （桂林米粉）, Bamboo Rice （竹筒饭）and Yu Lin Meatballs （玉林肉蛋）.

River Hongbao will also be collaborating with At-Sunrice Globalchef Academy for the very first time, inviting their students to create and market a special Nian Gao （Chinese New Year Sticky Rice Cake年糕）, only available for sale at River Hongbao. More details of this culinary showcase will be unveiled in future press conferences.

Greater Youth Participation
Expect a more ‘youthful’ River Hongbao as the committee plans for more youth involvement. Students will be invited to train as tour guides of River Hongbao’s ‘History of Chinese Education in Singapore’ Exhibition as well as to visit the Exhibition as part of their Chinese cultural curriculum, organize Lantern Riddles Contest and also get the chance to perform nightly on the River Hongbao stage. Online quizzes, of which answers can only be found at River Hongbao site, will also be hosted via River Hongbao’s website (www.riverhongbao.sg) and Facebook Page to pique their interest.

Night after Night of exciting performances!
Nine nights of festivities, nine nights of exciting performances to wow the audience! With Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong gracing the event as the Guest-of-Honour, River Hongbao will open on 21st January with a wonderful fireworks display as well as performances by Guangxi Performing Group and Taiwanese Singer Zhang Xiu Qing（张秀卿）.

On 22nd January, President Tony Tan will be ushering in the Year of the Dragon with another spectacular fireworks display followed by exciting performances by Guangxi, Zhang Xiu Qing as well as our very own local performing groups, artistes and students!

From 26th to 29th January, our local talents like Liu Ling Ling, Huang Qing Yuan, Li Pei Fen, Wang Lei, Chen Jian Bin will be hosting Local Talent night (26th January), performers from the Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines will entertain the masses on SCCCI Night (27th January), student groups will take center stage with
It has just been reported on Monday, 19 September 2011 that the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) in Singapore has stopped sales of Zerin 500mg tablets at all public healthcare institutions, private medical clinics and pharmacies due to product defects found in the tablets.

Zerin 500mg tablets, which are used to combat fever and pain, contain paracetamol. Zerin tablets are manufactured by Jayson Pharmaceuticals Ltd and distributed in Singapore by Ziwell Medical (S) Pte Ltd. tablets , and are available as an over-the counter (OTC) medicine, according to HSA.

Although the health risk to individual consumers is low, the suspension of sales “is to prevent the exposure of members of the public to a product that is not compliant with quality standards,” HSA said.

Anyone who have Zerin tablets are advised to stop consuming the product. Those who have consumed the tablets should not be alarmed as the defect has been assessed to pose minimal risk to health.

Those who require paracetamol should use alternative brands. They can also seek the advice of their healthcare providers.
How to take mrt from Woodlands Train Checkpoint? or
How to take MRT and Bus from Woodlands Train Checkpoint?

At Woodlands Train Checkpoint, there is a Taxi Stand and Bus Stop where you can take either a taxi//cab or a bus to the nearest MRT stations.

1. There is a Taxi Stand just outside the Woodlands Train Checkpoint,

You can take a Taxi or Cab to Woodlands MRT station, Marsiling MRT station or Kranji MRT station as these are the nearest MRT stations.

2. There is a Bus Stop just after the Taxi Stand at the Woodlands Train Checkpoint.
From the bus stop, the following buses go to these MRT stations. You can pay by cash or use your EZ-link cards:

A: You are probably taking a shuttle train. Please try our Premier Night Deluxe to KL Sentral which includes attached bathroom and shower, supper and breakfast.

Q: I cannot get a seat on a shuttle train.
A: Shuttle train tickets sold are unlimited. Seats are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Q: Why is KTM always delayed?
A: Some train journeys start from 900km away on a single line track, so if 1 train is delayed, there will be a chain reaction.

Q: When is the last day of operations?
A: 30 June 2011

Q: Where do I take the train after 30 June?
A: Woodlands Train Checkpoint

Q: Will I still be charged for my ticket in Singapore Dollars when I board my train from Woodlands?
A: Yes

Q: Child is refer from what age onwards?
A: Child is 2-12 years old. Below 2 is free travel, but share a seat with a parent.

Q: Other than online booking cos I couldnt select seats, any possibilities of phone calling booking? Wan tix for sunday to Kluang
A: Tickets to Kluang can only be bought 24 hours before departure for express trains, or 45-60 minutes before departure for shuttle trains.

Q: why are tickets from sg to kluang expres rakyat 8am on sunday sold out? i thought 24 hrs before then can buy
A: Because tickets are sold out from Singapore to KL Sentral. When the seats are blocked for the full sector, there would not be any seats left for short distance travel.

Q: oh no… then no chance alrdy to travel this sun morning?
A: You can board the shuttle at 7.15am but be prepared to squeeze since everyone wants to try the train before 1 July.
The the newly appointed Minister for National Development of Singapore, Mr Khaw Boon Wan (许文远 / 許文遠 Xǔ Wényuǎn), who was the formal Singapore Health Minister, has just started a new blog on "Housing Matters" on HDB Housing related matters.

His new "Housing Matters" blog is at http://mndsingapore.wordpress.com/

Mr Khaw Boon Wan wrote in his first post on this Housing Matters blog website on 26 May 2011 that many have emailed, written, and facebooked him, offering advice, suggestions, feedback. They have given him a feel of the nature and the scale of the unhappiness and concerns. In the immediate, he will focus on the housing needs of some groups like the young couples, divorcees with children, and low income families as he appreciate the anxieties they are currently experiencing.

Mr Khaw Boon Wan wrote in another post on this Housing Matters blog website on 27 May 2011 that one priority is to help young couples own their own homes as soon as possible, so that they can start their family and have babies. This is a national priority – promoting marriages and births – and MND must facilitate it to its best ability.

he said currently, 70% of new couples get their first homes via HDB’s BTO (Build-to-Order) flats. The rest get theirs in the resale market. This is not bad, but he thinks there is scope to do more. He thinks we should strive to have the vast majority of new couples start off their first set of homes in HDB, preferably via the BTO route. There are about 15,000 first marriages amongst Singaporeans a year.
For Chinese New Year 2011 or Lunar New Year in Singapore, an annual event is the River Hongbao春到河畔 at The Float at Marina Bay. River Hongbao (RHB) has always been a key event for Singaporean residents and tourists to visit during the Chinese New Year.

River Hongbao will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011.

This coming River Hongbao would also be different from past River Hongbaos with a focus on things uniquely Singapore (新加坡派). Visitors could expect to eat, drink and be merry with the many exciting experiences lined up for them.

Nightly performances include cultural performances from Nanjing City and Guangdong Province of China, Taiwan and regional countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia. An MOU was signed with Nanjing City Government to collaborate and promote cultural exchange through River Hongbao. Therefore, a special Nanjing Pavilion would be set up to feature its rich tradition through Handicraft and tourism.

During the day, visitors could visit River Hongbao and get the chance to taste unique delicacies from Nanjing, China and watch demonstration and buy handicrafts.

At night, the Float would be transformed with beautifully crafted lanterns and lighting installations against the magnificent backdrop of Marina Bay. Visitors can look forward to taking photos with local flavours so as to create their own precious photo memories on-site with their loved ones.

There will also be cultural activities such as nightly Chinese riddle-guessing. Calligraphy and Photography competitions would also be held.

Children would be able to enjoy themselves too at the children’s funland. Therefore, RHB 2011 will definitely be a memorable, cultural and educational event not to be missed.

Visitors will be able to have a memorable time through visiting River Hongbao 2011.
