I’ve heard people say that two years is a big accomplishment for a blog; not many blogs last this long. But honestly, I can’t believe it’s been two years already. I’ve had a blast.

Thanks to Around the Sun, I have done amazing things I never thought I’d do, met and corresponded with the coolest of people, and learned a ton of stuff about Portland. As a result, I’ve fallen deeper in love with this town.

Which leads me to the real reason I wanted to acknowledge this milestone, and that is to say thank you. Thank you to my supporters and readers. Around the Sun would not exist without you.

I hope I can help you save even more money in year three.

Here’s to spending less and living more. Cheers!

Be sure to stop by the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) for the opening of “Small Press: The Art and Business of Loaded Hips Press and Red Bat Press” featuring artwork by Shannon Buck and Carye Bye.

The show’s name “Small Press” has two meanings: both women own small businesses and both make small-size prints. At the opening, you’ll get a chance to meet both artists and hear about how they create their art and run their businesses.

Here are the details:

On Wednesday night (October 1), there’ll be a free tour of art galleries in Old Town/Chinatown. The flier says, “We’ll end our tour with a toast at a secret location.” Sounds cool. You need to RSVP, and I’m not sure if spaces are still available. But, thankfully, this is a recurring event. If you can’t get in this month, see if you can put your name in for next month.

Here’s the info I received:

You’re invited to our first Gallery Tour in Historic Old Town on Wednesday October 1, 5:30pm.

Explore Portland’s newest art frontier
In Portland’s oldest neighborhood.

Meet local curators and artists who are bringing a new energy to Portland.

RSVP to Nancy or Brian, arttour @ oldtownchinatown.org.
Tour size is limited; full details upon RSVP

Can’t make it this month? Pass it on to a friend, and look for our next tour in November.
