Do Arsenal need Stevan Jovetic?

2013-04-08T11:29:00.000-07:00

The player has clearly stated his respect for the Gunners. Arsene Wenger now faces an up-hill task to fork out the price tag placed on Jovetic's head. A price of £30million for a player who has scored 12 goals and achieved four assists in 27 games for his club this season isn't such a bad deal, not forgetting his versatility and teasing dribbling skills.

With Giroud struggling to replace the form Robin van Persie once did at Arsenal, Jovetic could be a possible replacement upfront. If he eventually joins the Gunners, competition up front won't be so feisty. A place in the first-team is all but guarenteed.

Arsenal face competition from Juventus and Manchester City in the race to secure the signature of Jovetic. In as much as I believe Arsenal would be the best choice for Jovetic, a move to Manchester City may be too hard to turn down.

If he is prepared to sit on the bench with the likes of Samir Nasri and Jack Rodwell whilst earning more money than Arsenal could find it tough to convince the Montenegrin to move to London.Moving to Juventus would be a bad idea. Imagine competing with the likes of Mirko Vučinić and Alessandro Matri for a place in the starting line-up.

With Fernado Llorente set to join Juventus in the summer, it would be foolish for Jovetic to consider staying in Italy.

Besides, he had a great year in Florence, moving to another Italian team would tarnish his good reputation in Fiorentina. Moving to an English team is the most logical idea to practice.

Lastly, his gigantic transfer fee could be an obstacle in his potential transfer to Arsenal. Wenger has been noted for his reluctance to spend. Other than that – he is a skilful player and a very good finisher; any club in the world would be lucky to secure his services.

Although It's highly unlikely for arsenal to fork out £30 million on a player lets hope Arsenal begin to invest and what a better player then Jovetic.

Will Arsenal win the race for top four?

Just two points behind Chelsea and Spurs; with a game in hand on our North London rivals, it appears Arsene’s unblemished record of top 4 finishes can remain in-tact. A couple of weeks ago I wrote a piece about our run-in, breaking down the fixtures and trying to predict where the points will come from. 2 games down and 2 solid victories, however some of our toughest fixtures are coming up.

I was really impressed with out victory against West Brom. In the first half we played in a stereotypical counter-attacking style for the away team, grabbing a goal in the first half and just after the break. However, the especially pleasing aspect of the win was how we held on after the rash challenge and dismissal of Mertesacker. We suffered wave-after-wave of attack for about 15 minutes, and the defence remained resolute; although maybe McAuley and Lukaku could’ve grabbed an equaliser.

The team selection is another interesting point surrounding our last two victories. Podolski, Szczesny, Oxy and Vermaelen are all warming the bench, with Rosicky, Fabianski, Gervinho, Giroud and Koscielny all starting. The skipper will get his chance following Per’s red card, however I can’t imagine Lulu or Szcz are overly impressed with sitting on the side-lines. What do you think about this bold statement by the Boss – should any of these players be starting?

Momentum is key, and it appears to be with us at the moment. However, every game’s a big game as we head to the climax of the season and we really need to keep picking up maximum points to be playing in the Champions League next year. Up next we have Norwich at home, followed by a key match against Everton just 3 days later. 6 points from these two matches and even the pessimistic fan will start to have a glow of optimism.

Where Does Theo's Future Lay?

Where Does Theo's Future Lay

In the recent day we've been distracted by the saga of our captain Robin van Persie, who announced his intentions to leave the club. Now what about our other man in his final year Theo Walcott. Where does the future lay for the young speedster.

Walcott a top player on some days and one of the worst on other he inconstant games gives him mixed opinions by the fans. His quick pace down the wing can kill a team but he doesn't seem to have the trickery to take his man on his own with out giving a great through ball. With other on the Gunner roster who have a significant amount of pace like the likes of Gervinho,Oxlade-Chamberline, and Ryo Miyaichi who all have enough pace to go on after a through ball but also have the ability to take on their man.

If we were to sell him this window, would it be the worst thing? He is English, therefore we’d get a great price for him, probably upwards of £15 million. We have fast wingers who are arguably more consistent in Gervinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will only get better next season. We could reinvest the money and buy another player with it too. Like a much need Holding Midfielder.

Selling Theo would be the smartest move for Arsenal, The Gunner fans can become unpaitent but Walcott is 23 year old and still has the best years ahead of him, he's finishing seems to have improved. Or maybe give him a shot down the middle where he says he plays better. With more constant performences next season he could really be an important part for Arsene Wenger team, with van Persie pretty much out this could be the chance Theo was waiting for
