It's not that good though I wasn't able to blend all the layers together.

Just installed my wacom driver onto my new laptop and this is all I could muster up for tonight. hehe. Not so good, its based on more of a "chipmunk" -ish look + human. hehe.
It's 2:23 in the am and I am bored. Trying to fight off a flu as well. :) which means more sketches tomorrow! :) hehe Since I'll be stuck in bed. I am also thinking of starting off a personal blog. But that'll still be in the works. :)

Hello, World! after many many months..

Hello, World!

Yes, I'm still alive after I don't know how long of not posting, I am here yet again blabbing about my not so exciting life.

Anyway, so I've gotten a few emails from people who have contacted me asking if I was open to collaborating with them. Sad to say, these collaboration didn't pull through. :( But, I'll admit it was partly my fault because I just wasn't able to squeeze in enough time because of my hectic schedule in Vet School... So, since my semester is coming to an end I would like to get back to painting and drawing and sketching again. I have installed a Yahoo! Pingbox on the sidebar of my blog. So if you wish to chat with me, or contact me for anything please do so. I am open to collaborations, commissions, dare you tell me your deepest darkest secrets (haha, joking) :P But yeah, so, I hope I hear from you guys! :) if you wish to email me instead its carriejorodriguez@gmail.com
oh, also I would like to point out anything you write to me on the Yahoo! Pingbox is between you and me only so don't worry about other people seeing what you type in.

Also, I mentioned a while back that I was working on a children's book. That is still in the making (yes, until now) I haven't quite gotten the final illustrations done but as soon as my semester ends I will be blogging again and posting various sketches and paintings :)

Don't want to leave you guys with a post without a little sneak peek of what I've been up to in school. So we went to visit a piggery farm. We went to one in Imus, Cavite, Philippines it was just a backyard type piggery nothin' fancy. But the pigs there were so cute! And the boars were gi-normous!
here is one pig that such a sweetie pie kept letting me pet it. :)

I've been watching a lot of reruns of the Conan show. So I just couldn't resist, I guess..

Heres the process.

I actually prefer my sketch to the final work.. I have to work on keeping the likeness of the sketch while painting and not loose the "essence" of the character.

Long time no blog. :) I haven't blogged in a while, I've been busy with personal things.
Anyway, my moleskine sketchbook is almost done and I decided to make a video of it. The pictures aren't that clear so please bare with it since I'm just too lazy to work my crappy scanner. :P I'd love some feedback on the some sketches. :)

if you notice I had some failed attempts at the styles of Ingrid Liman, Ericka Lugo, Tara Mcpherson, Stella Im Hultberg, Travis Louie. :) google them! they're great artists!

Update: I'm heading back to Vet school, enrolling today. That's all I can say on the matter. -__-

Japan Sketches and a quick preview

Here are a few sketches I did in Japan. I'll be uploading the rest later in the week so stay tune for those. Anyway here they are

This was done during our last day in Namba. I enjoyed having sushi every night from this store right infront of the hotel we were staying at. The sushi was amazing the fish tasted like smoked salmon. :) Plus Japanese Mayonnaise! :D

This was done in Namba as well while we were eating a little bistro. The girl beside us has really cute huge glasses.

This is what I'm working on now it's a sketch for a painting I'm planning on doing. I'm struggling with the shading and lighting can't seem to get the values right.

Huge Update: Japan and 16th Hot Air Balloon Festival Philippines

It's been a long time since I've blogged. (wonder if anyone is even reading this) Anyway, so we arrived from our two week vacation in Japan on Feb 8 :) once we landed in Manila I was happy and sad to be home. I loved Japan! the people, the scenery, and most of all the weather! I'm putting down going back to Japan on my bucket list. We first arrived in Namba, Osaka which was absolutely shopping galore! I think if Rebecca Bloomwood was in Japan she'd have a heart attack! There are so many things to find and more. :) Our hotel was situated right in the middle of it all so it was really easy getting around from store to store from restaurant to restaurant. The people there were so kind, friendly and polite. We spent most of our 3 days in Namba on a street called Shinsaibashi it was basically this long street that was just filled with stores. Here are a few pictures from Namba

Next stop on our trip was Nara Japan which was my favorite place I was really disappointed we only spent a day in half there. :( Oh well at least we I got to spend time with Tita Midori! (Aunt Midori Purdy)
Nara was amazing it was a much more less populated place plus it just felt like the Burbs if the burbs had wild deer walking about everywhere. :) Tita Midori brought us to the Todai-ji Temple first it was absolutely beautiful! It actually started snowing while we were there but just for a short while :( My favorite place was Nara Park. :) It was just to sit and relax and appreciate the surroundings (as well as the wild deer who'd come up to you for a pet or two) :)

The next day Tita Midori took us around the small streets in Nara to really get the feel of OLD JAPAN. We were able to go inside this lady's house it was an old fashioned style japanese house! It was amazing how intricate the house was and attention to detail and function to every which way in the house. Only in JAPAN.

See this window (above) from the outside people can't see through but from the inside people are able to see who is passing by and looking into their houses, sort of like a HUGE peep whole.

After Tita Midori left Mom and I took the train to Horyuji and visited temples there. The grounds were absolutely amazing it was so big and open with a huge pond :)

The next day we left Nara and headed to Uji where we looked absolutely forward to seeing the Byodo-in Temple. The Byodo-in Temple in my opinion was one of the most beautiful temples we saw in Japan. Make sure to look closely in the pictures. From across the lake you can see Buddha's face in the temple. It was absolutely beautiful!

In Uji we had lunch in this little quaint restaurant in one of the side streets it was so cute. It was filled with little collectibles and little cute plants outside.

After Uji we headed Kyoto where we spent our first night in this horrible hotel in the Gion area. Anyway, so the next day we moved to Citadines Kyoto. It was amazing there the staff was so friendly and the venue was so clean and modern looking. :) We spent 6 days in Kyoto and saw so many temples we saw over 10 temples while we were in Kyoto.

Then we headed back to Osaka for a day before we left :) We went to the Aquarium, it was sooo cooL! 8 floors of fun!

and then when we arrived it was the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Clark so we last minute decided to go and check it out. So me, mum, my friend Bea my sis and her BF headed over to Clark, Pampanga to check it out. Glad we went, it was so worth it. :)

Heading To Japan for Two Weeks!

Heres an update on Characters I'm working on for my own project :) (Keep in mind these character descriptions and names can change while the project is still not finalized)

"Mr. Dobsky"a 46 year old English professor who is just bored with his job teaching at Oxford University. He is liked by most of his students and faculty but just thinks there is more to life than teaching uni students correct grammar and how to use punctuation marks and such.

Hey Guys!!

2011 is here and this will be the year for change! I feel it! Anyway, so how was your New Year and Christmas celebration? Hope it was all well! :)

Been thinking of working on a little project maybe a short children's book :) But here's a current character I'm working on I haven't quite figured out his whole background let alone his name. But here it is he's half ogre half cyclops. First I wanted to call him Frank the one eyed monster but that seemed too generic. So I would love some feedback :)

This is a mock piece on a the character. It was done with watercolors. I was going to show the process of this piece but just ended up painting it straight out forgetting to take frequent scans. hehe

Tokyo Cafe, SM Megamall, Philippines

We were in this restaurant called Tokyo Cafe in SM Megamall for lunch. Its a weird Japanese place its "japanese" themed but the food they served is all american style hamburgers, pizzas, milkshakes and pastas. Their desserts are awesome taste wise and "look wise" :)) haha

This is a sketch I did while stuck in traffic on C5 road. This is the road I have to pass all the time to get to my new condo :) I absolutely despise this road since its always filled with traffic whenever we're there! hehe but thats because its where the toll booth is at. :) Didn't sketch the road though I was admiring the palm trees as well as the old rundown buildings in the area.

Yesterday I had a dream that I was back in the stone ages and I was sailing on a hot air balloon with my dog. Here is a photo of my dog. Her name is Sharpay. hehe (Sharpay the Sharpei)

Anyway I couldn't stop getting the idea of me in the stone age so I decided to paint it. This is just the early stage of the painting I'm still trying to figure out the background. If you have suggestions just comment
