The strategic and engaging flash mob – performed by Kids Who Care – received almost 42 percent of the votes to receive the $5,000 grand prize.

The musical theatre company held off  “Tape People” in a spirited and competitive campaign. “Tape People” finished second in online voting with 37 percent of the votes, while “Paper Monster” was third.

The Art Attacks voting ran from Oct. 6 through Oct. 26.

There were a total of 12 Art Attacks that helped spread the word about WorthGoing.com, the new online calendar launched by the Arts Council of Fort Worth. The campaign was also designed to help raise awareness about the arts community in Greater Tarrant County.

Kids Who Care performed a strategic and engaging flash mob in the lobby of Fort Worth’s Museum of Science and History on Sept. 24.

For a little over 5 minutes, these performers tasted “Fame.

”Remember my name – Fame
I’m gonna live forever
I’m gonna learn how to fly – High”

As the theme music from the 1980 hit TV show began to play across the museum, one dancer launched the flash mob. Before it was all said and done with, 60 performers were singing, dancing and spreading the word about WorthGoing.com.

Museum-goers tapped their toes and flashed smiles of curiosity and uncertainty – right before pulling out their camera phones and capturing the magic.

As the music faded off, the performers danced their way out of the building.

The “Kids” closest competition brought packaging tape to life in an extended Art Attack.

Artists Lauren Kolesar-Eatinger and Arlene Shelton used more than a mile of tape to create four “Tape People” and gave them a personal tour of Fort Worth – even before the actual Art Attack.

“The girls” visited the train station, the cultural district, and Staples. They were kicked off museum property, they rode a bike and a skateboard, and they received some bumps and bruises.

On Sept. 24th, they made their “official” appearance in and around downtown Fort Worth….they were a HUGE hit.

Poet Tammy Gomez wrote a community-minded and engaging poem to finish off the Art Attacks campaign. She spread the poem down the sidewalk of Magnolia Ave. to celebrate Arts Goggle and spread the word about WorthGoing.com.

Passersby walked slowly, with their heads down, softly reading the powerful words — which focused on community and living together in harmony.

A single word was painted on brightly-colored boards, and these 12-inch pieces of recycled wood were numbered. When they were laid out in the correct order – end to end – the poem came to life on the sidewalk.

If you listened very closely, you could hear the words in the air – especially the final thought, “I’m glad you live on my block.”

But it was an interactive and engaging rendition of “Macarena” that ended up stealing the show.

In the midst of Arts Goggle — one of Fort Worth’s premier art events — Barefoot Brigade delivered a performance worth watching.

Barefoot Brigade  – a coalition for dance and performance art – passed out “Go” money to help promote WorthGoing.com and then its members put on a spontaneous show for the Arts Goggle patrons along Magnolia Avenue.

As the group got into the “Macarena” groove, Kerry Kreiman – founding member of the Barefoot Brigade – directed the performance by announcing fun and engaging themes.

“You’re stuck in glue.”

“You’re on the moon.”

“Freestyle!”

Kreiman –  executive/artistic director of Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth – used a bullhorn to drowned out the stereo of the low-rider, which was the source of the “Macarena.”

She said she was happy with the performance.

“I think people had fun, and I think the car was perfect,” Kreiman said.

The performer was a local celebrity, Sheran Keyton, but this was not one of her legendary solo performances.

It was a vocal flash mob!

Along with the Carter High School choir, Samaritan House choir and DVA Productions, Keyton wrote and performed an original song about WorthGoing.com.

As Keyton began to sing, the Day in the District “patrons” quickly joined in – singing, clapping and dancing. Moments before, they were simply enjoying the exhibits and art collections.

The Community Arts Center quickly came to life.

Right in the middle of paintings and sculptures, Keyton and her back-up singers encouraged people to visit the new online calendar and all the wonderfully great things they’ll find when they get there. Her voice rang out when she sang, “It’s worry free.”

That was the theme of the Art Attack IX, “Art Movers.”

• Attempt No. 1: No volunteers

• Attempt No. 2: A September downpour

After the first failed attempt, “Art Movers” was finally executed – despite the monsoon.

In conjunction with Rahr Brewery’s first-ever Octoberfest 5K, Fort Worth artist Jerrel Sustaita sent out original artwork on to the course. Runners and walkers carried the works of art….until Mother Nature reared her ugly head and brought the floods.

Only one “Art Mover” finished the race, but it was a fun and engaging way to spread the word about WorthGoing.com.

“Art Movers” was Sustaita’s second Art Attack of the campaign. He got back in the saddle after his first Art Attack – “Couch Potato” – ran into some resistance in the Stockyards.

Local artist/fimmaker, Christopher Blay, created a short film to put a literal spin on the Art Attack revolution. Using images of historic arts venues around Fort Worth, Blay turned himself into “Artzilla” and “attacked.”

Crowds in and around Downtown Fort Worth were allowed to view the feature presentation. With a traveling projector and DVD player, Blay showed his 3-minute film in Sundance Square, at Lola’s Saloon, and inside the historic Fred’s Texas Cafe.

He projected his short movie on the sides of buildings downtown and on the walls and ceilings of the respective venues.

There were lots of questions from curious patrons and passersby. Blay was quick to spread the word about WorthGoing.com.

One gentleman said, “I guess a lot more people are using the internet for things.”

That was a widespread comment heard from patrons attending Gallery Night on Sept. 11.

Common response: “I think it’s art.”

Armed with seven stencils, adhesive spray and the infamous dryer, Baplax Industrial’s Carrie Conditt created an array of shirts on the lawn of Fort Worth’s Community Arts Center – using only bleach and her creativity.

Getting bleach on a colorful shirt usually sends a people into a frenzy, but Conditt purposely bleached nearly 100 shirts for her Art Attack and distributed them for free. (Tips were gladly accepted).

Stencil designs included a panther (“Panther City”), cowboy boots and an antique sewing machine. All donned WorthGoing.com.

Some pre-made shirts were modeled by movie stars Bruce Willis, Jet Lee and “that other guy from the movie ‘The Expendables.’ ”

Gallery Night guests were excited to have a new shirt to wear as backup in the stifling heat and humidity.

Tiffany Wolf – a member of the artist group Baplax Industrial – handcrafted two elaborate suits made out of primarily paper. She unvieled these “scary” characters at Fort Worth’s annual jazz festival, Jazz By The Boulevard.

They strolled. They danced. They got a lot of strange looks.

All in the name of art.
