Contemporary International Basketmakers Opens at the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Michigan January 12th- *Ceca Georgieva;"Outside the box"*
Green from the Get Go: International Contemporary Basketmakers, curated by browngrotta arts and Jane Milosch, former curator of the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum, travels to the Visitor Center Gallery of the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe, Michigan this month. The exhibition, which features from more than 50 works by artists who take inspiration from nature and the history of basketry, will be open from January 12th to March 9, 2013. On January 12th, Tom Grotta of browngrotta arts will do a walkthrough from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. In hosting Green from the Get Go, the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House honors the Fords' appreciation of boundary-stretching artistic inspiration, while drawing attention to the ever-more important issues of sustainability and the need for increased use of renewable resources. The museum's intent in sharing these artistic creations is to both heighten awareness of and draw attention to an unlimited resource for inspiration - nature. In addition to viewing the exhibition, when you visit, you can take a tour of the House and surrounding buildings. Musée Jean Lurçat et de la tapisserie contemporaine

Pour la 7ème édition consécutive à Angers, le musée Jean-Lurçat et de la tapisserie contemporaine organise cet hiver, la 10ème triennale internationale des mini-textiles. Le thème proposé aux artistes est «Too web or not to web» / «Trop de toile ou pas».
Depuis plus de quinze ans, la ville d’Angers et son musée de tapisserie contemporaine proposent ce rendez-vous attendu entre la création contemporaine textile et le public.
Chaque artiste présente une œuvre faite à partir de fil ou de sa symbolique dont la dimension ne doit pas excéder 12 x 12 x 12 cm (surface ou volume).
La modestie des formats s’allie au talent et à la diversité ; des artistes célèbres et en devenir, jeunes et moins jeunes se côtoient.

Un jury composé d’artistes, d'experts, d’enseignants, de conservateurs, s’est réuni et a sélectionné 68 œuvres qui composeront cette exposition, parmi 462 propositions. Plus de 20 pays sont représentés.

Bulgarian textile artist, Ceca Georgieva, has married nature and jewelry. Her statement pieces are not only bold compositionally, but bold due to their medium, grass, twigs, leaves, all natural elements. The natural materials add a new edge and tone to her pieces. The way she works with the natural contours and textures of each material gives the necklaces rhythm and movement. It is almost as if her pieces are coming to life, moving and breathing.
“Working with natural materials not only brings me joy but also much wisdom. In even the smallest piece of grass there is incorporated history, meaning and purpose. I constantly marvel nature. I admire and learn from her genius “installation” of design, color, smell and light …

European Eco-Trend of the Week: Nature Art Jewelry by Ceca Georgieva

Bulgarian textile artist Ceca Georgieva has been taking daily walks for a long time. Being a naturally creative person, it didn’t take long for her to turn the beauty of nature into wearable art. She’s been internationally recognized for her green technology textile creations, but her “nature art jewelry” takes green technology and eco-fashion to new levels.
I’ve come across many a necklace that shapes silver and beads into leaves and berries, and while each piece is beautiful in its own right, they are all copies of nature’s real thing. Georgieva’s designs are the actual real thing. She uses leaves, twigs, burrs, pods and other natural green technology materials, weaving them into gorgeous, wearable works of art. Arwen from The Lord of the Rings would be jealous.
“Working with natural materials not only brings me joy,” said Georgieva on her blog, “but also much wisdom. In even the smallest piece of grass there is . . . history, meaning and purpose.” She takes her own inspiration from nature’s green technology, and each piece reflects the environment it was created it. In this way, her jewelry connects the wearer with the earth on a very personal level–reflecting the local environment–instead of on a broad “this berry came from some tree somewhere” level.
Georgieva works in a studio near Sofia’s Mount Vitosha, where she’s worked for years, despite green technology awards and international recognition throughout Europe and Asia. She could choose a more glamorous lifestyle, but she keeps herself as real as her jewelry. You can find her on etsy.com, and follow her on blogger.
