I was on my way to work one morning, when I saw this small patch of land were converted into a rice field. Another thing that caught my attention was the planters, working under the rays of the morning sun. Except for a couple of adults the rest were kids not even ten years of age.

I have posted sometime ago my very first Photoshop tutorial for beginners : http://digital-artbytes.blogspot.com/2011/09/adobe-photoshop-tutorial-for-beginners.html .

I know it took me some time to make a follow up of that one. So here's my second Adobe Photosshop Tutorial for Beginners, in video! This is the very first video that I have created and I'm still playing around with the tool that I am using. I hope this would be of help to those who wants to learn Photoshop on their own.

To view the video click the link below.

Adobe Photoshop Tutorials for Beginners No.1 : Using the Pen Tool

I know the quality is not quite good. I was trying to balance quality and speed of download. I hope you'll find this useful. Some comments/feedback would be of great help. Thanks.

Rubber Beast Warrior!

There are few places in Roxas City however that I was able to capture beautiful sunset views.

New Road Sunset. (New Road, Banica, Roxas City)

The road has been there for years. Along with hundreds of residents, I pass by this road almost everyday. One afternoon though, I was attracted by what I saw.

Hidden Sunset (Cadimahan, Baybay, Roxas City)

Hidden from most of the residents, I was awed by the beauty of the setting sun from where I sit.

Pueblo de Panay Sunset (Pueblo de Panay, Lawa-an Roxas City)

Pueble de Panay is one of the latest and one of the biggest , if not the biggest, subdivision here in Roxas City. Currently, it is still in it's development phase. I was walking down its 6 lane road one afternoon and took a shot of this view.

I. The Adobe Photoshop CS 3 Environment

In order for us to use Adobe Photoshop use effectively, we must learn the environment first. For this tutorial, we will be using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Fig1. The Adobe Photoshop CS3 Window

Figure 1 shows the whole Adobe Photoshop CS3 window. In any development environment, it is important to familiarize yourself with its par.

Menu Bar- Contains all the commands necessary to use the program

Toolbox- displays the common tools (or commands) that you need in creating /editing your images.

Toolbar- this one changes when you select a tool from the toolbox. It provides additional options for each tool, if any.

Canvass- This is where you create/edit your image

Layers - Using layers makes photoshop a very powerful tool in editing images. Soon in this tutorial we will discover the power of layers.

There are still so many parts that you will soon seen in photoshop. Some of the windows here will disappear and reapper and more windows may appear, depending on what tool you are using. I introduced only these parts so that you will not be overwhelmed by the vast number of tools available in Photoshop.

The Toolbox

Fig. 2: The Adobe Photoshop CS3 Toolbox

As you can see there are 25 buttons in the toolbox, not to mention the sub options of those buttons that has a triangle on the lower right corner. To simplify this tutorial and not overwhelm you with all these tools. We will focus on a tool when needed. The most commonly tools that you may need to use are the Marquee, Move, Pencil/Brush, Eraser, Gradient/Fill Tool (not in any particular order). Of course the Text tool may be needed if your project needs it.

To avoid repeting the discussion of each tool , we will discuss each when we need it. First Let's create our first Photoshop Project

Panoramic photo of the strawberry fields in La Trinidad, Philippines. This is actually composed of five (5) photos that I stitched together using photoshop. I actually took more shots than 5, but I used a Polaroid Digital Camera without a tripod, so it was quite difficult to make a very wide angle panorama. I'll be posting soon how I did this.

<georss:box>16.421504651584907 120.51842885839835 16.530243651584907 120.64126885839835</georss:box>

Immortalized in Stone

One of the fascinating stone crafts that you will seen in Tam-Awan Village of Baguio City. This one depicts a maiden with her face towards the skies. Perhaps basking at the sun? Or she could be praying to her gods (for forgiveness?)... perhaps, only if her arms are there...

<georss:box>-22.5763166 60.81065650000005 55.435438399999995 -179.65809349999995</georss:box>

Strawberry Wallpapers

While listening to Shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) tunes, images came rushing into my mind. The rising sun on a valley, (or is it the setting sun?), the trees, the river, the swordsman with his katanas on his left while his right hand ready to draw one if needed; and the Sakuhachi (flute) player--playing his tune as he walk on a road by the river.

So I grabbed my sketch pad and water color pencils and brush, then I started drawing the scene that was then fixed in my imagination like a photograph. For each of the following days, I spend sometime, adding details on the image.

Starting last week, I have been editing some of my photos and uploaded them here so they will be available as desktop wallpapers that are downloadable for free. Then I came across a photo in Redgage (The Revere Beach Benches Version 2) that has been edited with HDR effects. I Googled for HDR tutorials and did some experiment on some of my photos and uploaded them here. One of which is the Summer Sunset photo. Then I uploaded it also to my Redgage with the same title Summer Sunset (I think I should have indicated version 2).

This morning, as I check my Redgage I was surprised to see that my earning is a few dollars more than I have expected. I checked my account and there it is $5.05 Feature Bonus.

I have to mention, in Redgage, each post can earn at least one cent a day, and could be more and there are other ways to earn more.

If you want to join Redgage and start earning, click here or any of the Redgage link in this post. Ever since I acquired my digital camera, I always take photos of the scenery that could be a common sight to the locals but could be a rare one for the travelers.

As I take a look at some of the photos I have taken, which were usually in high resolution, I tried setting one as a my desktop wallpaper. Then, it came into my mind, I might as well upload it here to share it with you. Here are first two of those digital photo wallpapers.

Sun and Lamp - taken in New Washington, Aklan, Philippines. I thought the clouds, the position of the sun in relation to the lamp post would make a great photo. I had to position the camera a little bit lower too to get this angle.

The Sun and Lamp: 1366 x 766 Wallpaper

Leso Church- The church yard in Leso, Aklan Philippines. A 2592 px by 1944 px Wallpaper

More wallpapers will be available for free download soon.

Free Wallpaper:Drawing Hands

I can't remember when I started using Photoshop but I had been drawing for as long as I can remember. It was about in the late 1990's I believe that I have made my first digital image. Most of the time, I've been drawing samurai's . I would first sketch my drawing on a piece of paper then scan it and do the rest of the works in Photoshop.

The Samuari I- one of my earliest works. A long haired modern day Samurai wielding two swords. One long sword and the other a shorter one. The floor actually is done with Corel Draw.

The Wizard of MU.When the game MU started to gain some popularity as a MMORPG, I downloaded one of their wallpapers and well, placed my head on the wizard's body.

Tales of the Swordsman. I started to create a story about an IT expert who worked in Japan. There he joined an Iaido school and studied this form of Japanese swordsmanship. This frame shows two of the senior students, a husband and wife tandem. The guy is also the main character's direct supervisor and the wife happens to be the daughter of the grand master of the dojo. The background is actually a mixture of digitally created images and real photos.

This guy is supposed to be the main character of that story as he is practicing Iaido.

You may not know me, but me and your Dad, had been good friends way back in our college days. I know you are going through some difficult times right now, but hang on tight. Be tough... be tougher than your dad. Be tough for your Dad and Mom and your siblings.

Especially on this special day.. your birthday! You have just finished another year in this world and starting another one. Be strong and you'll have many more years to come!

Hey today is also St. Patrick's Day! So as my gift for you I made you this image.

Digital Photography Tip For the beginners:
Cropping refers to the removal of the outer parts of an image for different reasons (improve framing, resizing the picture, etc...)

In photography, there are times that when taking photos we unintentionally got some unwanted parts with it or simply got too much background. In the photo below, the girl happens to walk by just as the button was clicked.

By simply cropping it using Microsoft's Picture Manager, I cropped the extra parts of the photo and made the person off center to show some of the background.

Another advantage of cropping your photos is you can make an uninteresting photo into something else. In the photo below you can simply say that the boy is just trying to shoot the ball from quite a distance.

By simply cropping the photo a bit, removing the kid that has thrown the ball... the result is, you don't know where the ball is coming from and it would seem that the ball came from straight up and those kids are waiting for it to fall.

How to crop the pictures
If you're new to both digital photography and photo editing and you don't have Adobe Photoshop or any other image editing tools, you can use a number of photo editors to do the cropping. If you are a Microsoft user and have MS Office installed, you can use the MS Office Picture Manager which I will give the steps in this simple tutorial.

Open the image you want to crop with the Picture Manager. If Picture Manager is not the default program set to open your image files, right click on the image, then select 'Open With' then look for the MS Office Picture Manager.

From the Main Menu click on Picture then Crop. Or from the toolbar select Edit Pictures then on the right panel, select Crop

Then drag the thick corners or the thick lines on any of the four sides to select the parts that you are going to remove. Take note, everything outside the four thick corners will be deleted.

Click OK, if you are done.

If you are not satisfied with the result, press CTRL-Z on the keyboard to undo the crop and do it again.

For Unix based users, you can always use GIMP to edit your photos.

You can also try editing your photo using http://pixlr.com which is an online photo editor that you can use for free and it doesn't matter what operating system you are using.

Love Quote Desktop Wallpaper. Way back when I was just kid, I have been observing my older brother do some photography works. He was using a RICOH SLR then, I don't know the specific models. I have admired his works, and perhaps watching him and seeing his works have planted a seed in me.

In college, I have have always admired the photos in the National Geographic Magazine. Though they are quite expensive, I would buy one from time to time, not only to read the interesting articles but to marvel on the amazing quality of photos in that magazine. (I also love to collect the maps of the different countries-- from different times that comes with the some issues).

Photography however, seems to be an expensive hobby for me...and time passed by, that interest in photography seems to have vanished. Although every time I could get my hands on an insta-matic camera, I would take pictures of the sceneries that I see.

Still I continue to admire great photos whenever I see one. Though deep inside I often wish I could get some cool photos myself also, I never thought I could do it. One main problem is I could not afford to but a descent DSLR camera and it never occurred to me that I someday I would. Until I became active in Redgage.com

In Redgage.com I have seen spectacular photos that would equal the quality of photos in National Geographics. I would spend hours each day, admiring the spectacular photos. Not only that, I have come to get acquainted with the people who posted them.

Here are some of my favorite photos in Redgage.

http://www.redgage.com/c-hiaar
http://www.redgage.com/c-fjebdd
http://www.redgage.com/c-haiieb
http://www.redgage.com/c-ifjhjh
http://www.redgage.com/c-gfeihj

Seeing at these photos have revived my desire for photography.Although I still can not afford to buy a DSLR (yet), my desire is stronger now that I have made plans how to earn extra cash so that I will be able to buy at least a Canon Rebel series camera within this year. To start with and to help me earn the amount that I needed, I bought myself my first digital camera. It was relatively cheap, but the Polaroid T1232 digital camera could capture a quality photo that surpassed my expectations.

In one rainy afternoon, I experimented with my digi-cam and was amazed how it captured the individual droplets of water as the raindrop hit the pavement.

Here's one of my early favorite shots.

In the recent months I have been uploading photos in redgage. Including some of my experiments in photography. Since I still can't afford to buy an entry level DSLR camera, I settled for a digital camera that has at least 3x optical zoom with a high resolution (up to 12 Mega pixels).

While doing different experiments with my digi-cam, my interest in taking night photos without using the flash grew. Of course this means that my subjects would be something that is lighted or the source of light even.

One December night, I stepped out of our front door then I saw the bright full moon glowing. What caught my attention was, though it's been very cloudy for the past few days, there's just enough hole through the clouds to show the moon. The effects of the moon's light on the clouds instantly suggested that this is a moment worth capturing in the camera, so I grabbed my digital camera, not realizing back then that I was about to take pictures of the Last full moon of 2010.

One problem though when setting a camera to night mode, the shutter speed is quite slow, thus the exposure is quite longer. In effect if the camera is not steadied, which is very difficult to do using a camera without an optical viewer, any movement, slight jitter of the hands will affect the picture.

The first two pictures shows what I mean. Both images are taken without a tripod.. which I don't have as of now.

I looked for a way to steady the camera. So placed it on the concrete ledge of our front porch then I looked for something that I could point the camera just at the right angle upwards.

I took several shots, slightly moving the location of the camera. Here, I actually did not notice the power line on the LCD screen of my camera. It appeared to have pierced the ball of light though.

Finally I got this shot.

Each shot I take with my digital camera, simply fuels my desire to buy a DSLR even the entry level ones.

For the 6 months that I have been active in Redgage.com, I have come to know several great photographers and other artists that have re-lighted the artistic nature in me. Because of their amazing photos and digital arts, I was inspired to post some of my own works.

Though I had no formal training when it comes to art, I had been drawing as long as I can remember. From the paper and pen medium, as I come to age and got into computers, the medium has changed but still I kept on drawing and lately, I have been doing some digital paintings, which I will be posting here soon.

Recently, I have started two new media, digital photography (I'm a certified newbie at this), and oil pastel on paper. Still, I have no formal training on these two, yet, since the net contains lots of information regarding these subjects, I read some tips and view some tutorials from time to time.

Art, as I have come to understand it, can only be developed by continues practice.

I hope you'll like the contents of this blog.

For now let me refer you to some of my works in Redgage.
