As you may remember I blogged about Gun Dahlberg from Sweden a while ago. She is married to Björn who is also very skilled and creative.  We met at a jewellery summer-course at The Art Folk High Scholl in Holbæk and they have become good friends.

At The Art Folk High School Björn made the necklace with the pigs. And for Valentines Day he made the jewellery with harts as a present for Gun.

On March 16th 2012 Helle Bjerrum opens a new solo exhibition called STATUS at Gallery Bærbart.

She describes the exhibition like this: As the title indicates, I have explored status as a theme. The word status relates both to material values and to one’s standing in terms of reputation and position.

How status is achieved varies with time and prevailing trends as well as social and geographic context.

In my design and choice of materials I have aimed for close links with the theme. Hence it is possible to find aspects of meaning in many details of the jewellery.

The works cover a wide range of facets of the overarching theme: status related to material value, status related to sites and property, status as something that is actively reproduced in culture and the fact that, traditionally, the two sexes have acquired status in different ways.

I am quit fascinated by the way Lina Peterson uses a combination of textile and metals in her work. Taking a look at her website I found out that she uses a lot of different materials. Supporting structure

This work has been inspired by the city of Barcelona and the infrastructure designed by Ildefons Cerdà. His straight lines and long wide avenues are characteristic for Barcelona and give the city an amazing light in spite of all the high buildings. I have been repeating these lines, creating a rhythm and a pattern on the pieces.
The inspiration has been both visual – from the view of the streets and the buildings -but it has also evolved ideational while running along the streets. The work has also been strongly influenced by the people I got to know during my six month stay.
