Here's a nugget from the cutting room floor: WSB radio/Atlanta's Eric Von Haessler and Art discuss the morning the Regular Guys morning show got kicked out of a sports bar, live on the air! (The Regular Guys was Von Haessler's extremely popular morning show prior to his WSB show, at the old 96 Rock.) Art was there as a young freelance writer looking for a story to impress the editors of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and got involved in the action!

Art's comments: "I trimmed this from the original interview because it didn't pertain to the narrative of Eric's career, and I felt I was a bit long-winded (very unusual). However, it's a great story! I really thought there was a chance I might even get to write this one up for Rolling Stone at the time."

The rest of the world, i.e. non-Art Howard listeners, may not have heard of Dulcé Sloan yet, but she has a talent holding contract with NBC, so she'll be on their TV sets soon. She's also appeared on ESPN's Riggle's Picks and ABC's Resurrection.

Sloan takes the time to chat with Art for a follow-up to her 2012 interview, and details the amazing things that have happened to her in the past year: coming in second at the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival, which paved the way for an appearance at Montreal's Just for Laughs, and now, opportunities with NBC. 67 minutes.

Greg Renoff is not only a rabid Van Halen fan, but also a Ph. D. in history. Dissatisfied with the lack of information on Van Halen's earliest years, he put his degree to use studying not what happened to the lost colony at Roanoke Island (snore!), but how did Van Halen's years playing backyard parties prepare them to be the dominant hard rock group of the following decade?

The result is Van Halen Rising: How a Southern California Backyard Party Band Saved Heavy Metal. The book is deep with drama and detail, thanks to the over 230 interviews Renoff conducted with insiders such as longtime bassist Michael Anthony, producer Ted Templeman and even David Lee Roth's sister.

For over 25 years, Eric Von Haessler has had a conversation with America from behind a radio microphone. For much of that time, he ridiculed everyone and everything in his path to hilarious effect. In recent years, he's shared his more serious and well-considered thoughts on everything from politics, to science, to NASCAR, to his favorite band, Drivin' n' Cryin'. These days he can be heard on his podcast, "The Show," and weekly WSB radio show, "The Von Haessler Doctrine."

Eric sits down with Art and recounts the history of his top-rated former morning show, The Regular Guys, which was the toast of the L.A. FM talk radio scene in the mid-1990's at KLSX, and was a consistent ratings winner for its 16 year run in Atlanta on 96 Rock and Rock 100.5. He also shares the experiences and lessons of his rough-and-tumble youth, such as visiting his father in prison, dropping out of high school, living with heroin users, and ultimately finding a way up and out through comedy. 2 hours 22 minutes.

Art's comments: "It's crazy to think in December of 1997 I was on an egg crate mattress in L.A. trying to tune in this cool new show I'd read about, and in 2015 one of the hosts is in my house. If you're a Regular Guys fan, this is a fantastic oral history. Eric has told these stories on the air, but this is the first time they've been told as one narrative. And if you make it through my opening comments, you'll feel like you just sat through all 16 years of the Regular Guys' run in Atlanta.

Vinny Bucci returns to talk about his past year in Atlanta show business. Most notably Art and Booch discuss the last day at Rock 100.5 of Larry Wachs, the original Regular Guy. It's also known as "The Day the Other 50% of the Laughter Died" (Regular Guys co-host Eric Von Haessler was let go the year prior).

Vinny also tells us about the independent films and a comedy TV pilot he's been featured in.

Yes, I've been very lame about putting a new show together! FOUR MONTHS? Even Johnny Carson never took that much time off!

However, editing is about to begin on a new episode with the one and only Vinny Bucci!

In the meantime, let me attach myself to the coattails of a true star in the making. You may remember Dulcé Sloan from very early on in our show, back in 2012. Since then Dulcé got a coveted spot in the Montreal Just for Laughs festival. In 2015 that's even bigger than a shot on The Tonight Show. And it's paid off, because she's now taking meetings in Hollywood! Yes!

Check out our 2012 interview (the best I had done up until that point, I thought), and remember when you see her on your TV or local movie screen, you heard of her here first!

Art salutes his greatest idol, late night television icon David Letterman. Joining him in discussing Letterman's 33 year late night career and retirement are Brian Arnold, a member of the Letterman fan Facebook group, and Jeff Zuk, creator of the tribute Letterman Twitter feeds @ByeLetterman and @ByeLettermanLT. Art's comments: "Stay tuned for a sappy ending that seemed like a good idea when I thought of it as I walked around the park, but in hindsight may have been a terrible idea! However, it stands as the only recorded document that I'm capable of having fuzzy emotions.

"Although it's unlikely, I would like to think Dave might at least skim this one as he's out on the fishing boat in Montana sometime. After nearly 40 years of hearing people telling him how great he is, he can always dial this up and hear it one more time. Thanks, Dave!"

Art's Comments: "When I heard history was being made so close to home, I had to go down and document what happened.

"Despite being accused of rape by close to 40 women, Bill Cosby performed a concert for his Far from Finished tour at the Cobb Energy Centre. Though it's called Far from Finished, this is the only date of the last eight that wasn't canceled or indefinitely postponed!

"Gloria Allred, who you've no doubt seen on various national news shows, was on site. I got audio from Allred as well as one of the alleged victims, Kaya Thompson, her mother, and the protest organizer, Julie Mastrine of Care2."

"Though I've worked professionally as a small town reporter in the past, I haven't done news in years, and I wasn't on the scene officially as a 'reporter,' per se, but an interested citizen and documentarian of some of the history of my city. I was also pleasantly surprised that when I told the people under 30 that I wasn't with a network, I was just a podcaster, their interest in speaking to me didn't wane. In fact they said they loved podcasts and were very enthusiastic.

Remember what it was like to hang out past midnight during the work week, drinking beer and listening to boundary-breaking music? Art had almost forgotten, too!

Del Venicci chats with Art in the parking lot of their Monday midnight show at club 529 in East Atlanta Village. The band discuss their connection to Italian opera, Andy Warhol's influence on their creative philosophy, and finger painting. Interwoven with the interview are songs from the set. 47 minutes

Art's comments: "When I saw Del Venicci's video for the song 'Shadow Braid,' I was quite impressed. Here was a band with not only a sonic but also an aesthetic vision, which virtually no band has today, and they were right here in Atlanta! As someone over 40 who is becoming accustomed to people under 32 not getting my references, I was also relieved when they knew who Bauhaus was.

"I don't know why I roll called every `80's alternative band in Atlanta I could think of, but I did. And I left out Impulse Ride and Liers in Wait. Music starts at about 9 minutes in."

Will "The Thryll" Phillips spent six years in Hollywood in the unglamorous position of Production Assistant, schlepping coffee and sandwiches to the makers of Family Guy and other top shows. He also co-created a Web series called Murder Squad that got him into talks with Comedy Central and ABC.

However, things didn't go as dreamed. Now back in central New York for the time being, he's written an e-book about his stint in Tinsel Town called Hollywood Failure, due out in October 2014. He talks to Art about where the dream went wrong, and where it goes from here.

We also get a quick word with Cody Westlake, bowling shoe expert! 57 minutes.

Art's comments: "If I got even 10 seconds of face time with a decision maker at ABC, I wouldn't stop talking about it for the rest of my life! Everyone should check out Will Phillips' Murder Squad Web series to see what credit cards and shared dreams can accomplish. The Thryll's story is certainly interesting, and I don't think we've heard the last of him. Maybe one day we can say this show marked where it all turned around.

Toplyn has been a writer for Late Night with David Letterman, head writer and producer for The Late Show with David Letterman, and co-head writer and producer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Show number 40 is our longest show ever! It's literally too much show!

Rock 100.5/Atlanta's Vinny Bucci returns. He talks about the series of independent film roles he's had in the past year, which includes being directed by former Martin cast member Tommy Ford. He also candidly discusses the dismissal of Eric Von Haessler from the Regular Guys morning show.

Next, ATL-based punk band Onchi (pronounced with a long "O;" own-chi ) discusses how they came together to create a space punk band with synth bass and sci-fi-inspired lyrics. Controversial changes at the largest college radio station in America, Georgia State University's Album 88, are also mused over. Four Onchi tunes are featured: "EYEz," "Tonight We Ride," "Class War !" and "Black Nougat." 1 hour 45 minutes.

Art's comments: "I thought combining a comedian and band would make for a more interesting show. It resulted in the longest show yet! This will be great for a long walk or morning commute.

"Eric Von Haessler's exit and the sudden changes in the Regular Guys show have been of interest to all Atlanta radio fans. I was surprised Booch knew as much as he did and discussed everything openly. He's acquired a pretty impressive film resume, too, in just the past couple of years.

"As for Onchi, I've been addicted to their Soundcloud page for about a month now. My interview with them kind of reminds me of the clip of Tommy Smothers interviewing Pete Townshend, though. (I'm Tommy Smothers in that analogy.)"

In his native upstate New York he was often MC at Buffalo comedy clubs, and became a frequent fill-in co-host on a legendary Rochester morning radio show, all while earning a Master's degree. Now in Los Angeles, he's trained in improv and sketch writing with top comedy troupes and performs before bona fide stars in clubs around L.A. He may currently best be known as co-host of The Dunk Tank podcast with former American Idol host, Brian Dunkleman.

Art catches up with Chet while the comic is in Atlanta for the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival. The interview takes place at the luxurious W Hotel in Midtown.

38 - Linda Cardellini, actress...

...from 1997, before she became famous.

Long, long ago Art visited a high school classmate in Hollywood and met his cute new friend. The petite brunette would go on to star in NBC's Freaks n' Geeks, as well as ER, Scooby Doo, Mad Men, and now New Girl: Linda Cardellini. Art digs into the vault and brings you the thrilling interview (about 1:00 long) where she talks about her budding career and first roles.

Next, it's an epic tune from prog-jam band Iratowns called "Analogy." The live performance is from 2001 at Raleigh, North Carolina's Pour House. The guitarist/violinist of this band, Dan Campbell (link), went on to be part of country singer Buddy Jewell's band and was a world-traveling Nashville musician for over a decade.

Art's comments: "This show is one long name drop. Those who know me personally have heard this Linda Cardellini story at least 10 times. Kind of a weak move pulling out a 17-year-old tape but hey, I'm keeping the podcast beast fed! Skip to 24:50 to hear the clip.

"I was Iratowns' publicist for awhile and proudly got them write-ups in the Tampa Tribune, St. Petersburg Times and a Sarasota newspaper. To this day I think they're one of the best bands I've ran across, right up there with Led Zeppelin and everyone else. Although they broke up years ago, I still hope their music gets around. Please do listen for a great performance of one of their best songs."

"A New York comic now doing it in L.A." That's how Evan Kessler was first described to Art.

In this interview, Evan sets the record straight that he actually began doing standup in California. Kessler talks about what it's like to begin a career in standup in the show business mecca of Los Angeles, and his brushes with star comics like Maria Bamford and Emo Philips. He also gives insight into his day job, working as a writer and production assistant on various reality shows. Along the way he also talks about the very beginnings of his career back in New York, writing for the National Lampoon Web site and working on various VH-1 "I Love..." shows. 69 minutes.

Art's comments: "I think it's a lot of people's dream to step onto a stage in Hollywood and try to make it as a comedian. Evan Kessler is actually living it. While the rest of us are creeping down the interstate to our cubicle farms, this guy is hitting the clubs and making his dream come true. For that alone he deserves for you to listen to his story.

Well, shit! A month has gone by and I haven't posted a new episode! So enjoy this classic (read: old) episode from the summer of 2012 where I interviewed famed ATL music critic and DJ, Jeff Clark. He publishes Stomp and Stammer, an irreverent and hysterical music `zine that basically invented Simon Cowell's shtick 20 years before Cowell did. Jeff Clark is a great writer, rock n' roll entrepreneur, and living library of alternative/indie rock music history.

This episode also has excellent ambiance because it was recorded at The Majestic, one of Atlanta's finest eateries. Check it out!

Art Howard at Night's first guest ever, Don de Leaumont, returns to show his softer side with this live acoustic performance!

Don may be best known as publisher of the hard rock/metal blog, The Great Southern Brainfart, which has received bylines and mentions in music magazines from Revolver to Rolling Stone. For his 40th birthday, however, much like Jimmy Buffet did with "A Pirate Looks at 40," Don looks at 40 by demonstrating his singer-songwriter skills. Along with highlights from his birthday show at Decatur, Georgia's Java Monkey café, Art gets the inside scoop on how a devout metal fan weaned on Twisted Sister became an unplugged, fingerpicking wordsmith.

Songs performed are "You Built a Wall," "Somewhere in Between," "Why I Sing About the Rain," "Carry Me Home" and "Fart Proudly" (seriously). 41 minutes.

Art's comments: "Oh, my poor face! Don totally melted us all! But really, if you listen closely to Don's music, you'll hear impressively precise fingerpicking with the most well-thought-out rhymes this side of Jay-Z. Turn off the screamo for a change and take a listen to Don."
