Hello,
My name is Nancy Dahlhauser. I recently opened a gallery in Edgehill Village (east end of Music Row). We’re located in a renovated industrial building (formerly White Way Cleaners). I have an 800 square foot space with high walls and an open ceiling. The facility houses three restaurants, a coffee shop, a bakery, a gelato shop, a children’s clothing store, three artist’s studios, a hair salon, a spa, and several other small businesses. It’s an eclectic setting with amazing potential.
The gallery supports local artists and crafters. I currently have fine art by Nancy Dahlhauser, Timothy Tyler, and Katherine Saporiti. We also carry pottery and jewelry.
I am seeking a resident artist who will pay $725.00 a month and 10% commission on artwork sold at the gallery. There is a studio/work space which is located in the back of the gallery. It has amazing natural light.
The benefits to a resident artist includes the following:

    Insurance for fine art that is housed at the gallery
    ¼ of the wall space that rotates every six weeks to include window space
    public gallery which is open five days a week (Tuesday – Saturday)
    advertising (such as a ½ page ad in “Nashville Arts” magazine)
    participation in the monthly Edgehill Village Art & Music Crawl
    participation in gallery shows
    participation in special events (such as the Edgehill Artisan Fair, Franklin Jazz Festival, and Oktoberfest in Germantown)

Currently exhibiting their works inMetro Parks’ Centennial Art Center’s gallery, painters Kim Barrick and Carolyn Riess-Dodson and woodturner Brenda Stein will each present Gallery Talks atMetro Parks’ Centennial Art Center’s gallery. The artists will discuss their works that are on exhibit, their artistic motivations, inspirations and techniques.

Centennial Art Center’s Director, Brenda McSurley says, “We know the public will enjoy hearing Carolyn, Kim and Brenda discuss their art in a relaxed, informal setting. These talks also offer a great opportunity to ask the artists specific questions about individual works.”

The first Gallery Talk takes place on Tuesday, March 13, 6 pm – 7 pm and will feature Murfreesboro, Tennessee painter,Carolyn Riess-Dodson. Inspired by both the natural world and her inner, imaginary world, she says, “I want to share my version of the potentially colorful countryside that surrounds us. It's not just brown and green any longer. Then there's that inner world of fantasy, archetypes and ancient prototypes fueling my mental, right-brain engine that I've just got to get on canvas!"

Nashville, Tennessee woodturnerBrenda Stein’s Gallery Talk will be held on Thursday, March 22, 6 pm – 7 pm. She describes her approach to her art form, “Combining the perfect curve with the richness of our Tennessee trees brings me great joy… Every tree has a story. Each piece is the voice of the tree inspiring deeper connections with our natural world.” Brenda appeared as the featured artist in a Nashville Public Television program,Tennessee Crossroads: Brenda Stein, Woodturner. Additional works by Brenda Stein have been added to this exhibit since its February 2nd opening.

PainterKim Barrick of Nashville, Tennessee, will present her Gallery Talk on Tuesday, March 27, 1 pm – 2 pm. A champion of plein aire painting (painting landscapes while outdoors), she foundedThe Chestnut Group, a nonprofit alliance of landscape artists. “Nature is my True North…” Kim shares, “There is always something that evolved from the earth that draws my attention... Nature is chaos in motion. I just try to paint it and get the exquisite pieces – be engaged and humbled by the rare – and attempt to not miss anything.”

The Art Center’s gallery manager, Lena Arice Lucas, says, “We are so pleased with this outstanding exhibition and the public’s enthusiastic response. There are so many talented, creative people in the Nashville area, and it is such an honor to exhibit works by these three exceptional visual artists. The Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority pioneered the Percent for Art Program in 1959, becoming the first program in the United States to make the commissioning of fine arts an integral part of the urban renewal process. The

Percent for Art Program requires that redevelopers who build on land acquired from and assembled by the Redevelopment Authority must budget at least one percent of the total building construction costs toward the commissioning of original, site-specific works of art. The Percent for Art program encourages Redevelopers to conceive of innovative applications for public art, and to create work that engages the public and challenges them to think about their surroundings in new and exciting ways. Each art project is more than a single or isolated work – the public space in its entirety is considered, in order to make the greatest contribution to the urban fabric, the streetscape, and the places that citizens populate. Each project is completely site-specific.

Participate in an online Facebook exhibition inspired by the current exhibition To See as Artists See and the Frist Center, itself.

As an artist, what do you see when you visit the Frist Center for the Visual Arts? Is it the Boaz Vaadia sculpture that greets you when you make your way from the parking lot into the Turner Courtyard, or is it the Turner Courtyard? Are you inspired by the hustle and bustle of guests in the magnificent Grand Lobby, or is it simply the Art Deco architecture?

We are seeking works of art inspired by the Frist Center for the Visual Arts to fill an online album of adult artists’ works for our Facebook Fan page. Over the next few weeks, when you visit the Frist Center, arm yourself with a sketchbook and a pencil (only pencils may be used in the galleries) or with your iPad using an app such as Penultimate. Take a look around while you dine in the Café, peruse the galleries and lobby, or sit in the Turner Courtyard. Select something that stands out to you at the Frist Center and sketch it!

Once you return home (or to your studio), choose from one of the 10 thematic groups from the current exhibition To See as Artists See: American Art from The Phillips Collection and listed below and create a two-dimensional work of art that depicts what you, the artist, sees when you visit the Frist Center.

Only 50 entries will be selected for the online album. Fans of the Frist Center Facebook page will then vote for their favorite entry. The image that receives the most “likes” from Frist Center Facebook fans will be awarded “Best of Show” and receive a Frist Center gift packet and a yearlong Frist Center membership.

To See as Artists See: American Art from The Phillips Collection, on view in the Ingram Gallery through May 6, 2012, features more than 100 works by 75 important artists, including outstanding paintings by Winslow Homer, Childe Hassam, Maurice Prendergast, John Sloan, Edward Hopper, Arthur Dove, Georgia O’Keeffe, Charles Sheeler, Stuart Davis, Jacob Lawrence, Adolf Gottlieb and Robert Motherwell. Many of the artists in this exhibition were influenced by the world around them and captured in their work some of the biggest changes transforming society during their lifetimes: the rise of industry and new modes of transportation, the growth and electrification of cities and the invention of everyday objects.

Donna Glassford resides in Nashville and is the proprietor of Donna Glassford Arts in Health, a consultancy. Her past experience includes serving as the Executive Director of Cultural Enrichment at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for 14 years. She is a board member for the Society for Arts in Healthcare a national organization and serves on the board of Nashville Civic Design Center. Not only a collector of art, Donna assists in the purchase of major at pieces for prominent medical facilities and private collections. She has lectured on the topic of art and health internationally. Her experience as painter and printmaker led her to this unique field.

Ms. Glassford will be speaking on how the arts play an important role in making environments feel more comfortable for patients and their loved ones. She will discuss how the arts can assist in healing during stressful times. Donna will share stories, opportunities and give examples of how the healing arts have influenced individual patients and the community at large. Examples will be drawn from the genesis of major sculpture commissions inspired by hope to therapeutic endeavors shown as temporary art exhibitions. She will also field question from the audience on how their art might apply to the healing environments.

In it's fourth year, the Arts Council is proud to present this evening series for 2012.
Some of the most renowned local artists will share an up-close and personal glimpse into their lives and their work.

Harmon's art education began early in his childhood. He recounts, "My Grandmother was a painter...a really great one....and as she lived in the same neighborhood as my parents, I spent a lot of time as a child in her home and studio." He also took a few summer art classes as a child. "That's about it for art education, but it was a good one," he comments.

For 11 years, from 1986 to early 1998, Harmon divided this time between permanent studio/residences in Paris, France, and Brentwood. The Harmon work is well represented in numerous galleries, museums, major corporate and private collections in Europe, Asia and the United States. His work is in collections in the Tennessee State Museum, the Tampa Museum of Art, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the Museum of the Principality of Monaco and the city of Caen, France.

In 1994, Harmon's major exhibition of his work at the invitation of officials of Caen, France, was curated by Galerie Dėprez-Bellorget of Paris for the official art show of the D-Day 50th anniversary remembrances.

Harmon is the recipient of many major international painting awards, including the Prix de la Ville de Monaco and the Prix de la Sociėtė E.J.A. at the XXIV Prix International D'Art Contemporain de Monte-Carlo. The Harmon painting, Walking Man, from this exhibition/competition was chosen by Her Serene Highness, Princess Caroline of Monaco for her private collection. In connection with the Prix de las Ville de Monaco, a canvas was commissioned by the Principality of Monaco for its permanent collection.

A comprehensive book, “Paul Harmon: Crossing Borders,” is now in print. This 360-page color volume covers canvases from 1961 to mid-2009. Over 526 paintings are featured along with an essay by Art Historian Robert L. McGrath, professor of art history, emeritus, Dartmouth University.

Harmon's work is featured in the Elmore Leonard Showtime movie, "Pronto," directed by Jim McBride and starring Peter Falk, Glenne Headly and James LeGros.

Today, Harmon lives and works in a 1793 National Register of Historic Places farmhouse and studio in Brentwood. To see Harmon's work, please visit www.paulharmon.com.

In it's fourth year, the Arts Council is proud to present this evening series for 2012.
Some of the most renowned local artists will share an up-close and personal glimpse into their lives and their work.

Sharp began his journey toward furniture making after attending Vanderbilt University Law School, and realizing that "none of the white-color professions were appealing." Little did he know that a simple remodeling project for his landlord in lieu of rent would lead to the career of a lifetime in fine woodworking. Even though he had no experience in carpentry, his customer was satisfied, and as one job after another came along, he gravitated toward interior trim and simple cabinetry. He loved making things with his hands and out of wood!

As he began exploring how to make fine furniture, he found very few remaining who could pass on the knowledge and techniques of fine hand woodworking. Since it was almost a lost art, Sharp read books and experimented. He discovered that "perhaps the finest furniture ever built, both in terms of artistic style and technical skill, was created in the 18th century," when power equipment of any sort had not been invented and a piece was made entirely with hand tools. Sharp visited prominent museums and collections and picked the brains of collectors, dealers and scholars in antique furniture.

At the same time, to make a living, Sharp was growing his business in an entirely opposite direction. "By 1980, he had a 13.500 sq. ft. shop, a quarter-million dollars' worth of machinery and 25 production employees, cranking out fairly low-end furniture." By this time, he rarely touched a piece of wood, and commissions for fine furniture were rare. At the first opportunity, Sharp sold the factory and built a small woodworking shop next to his home in Woodbury, Tenn. He was determined "to use primarily original-period hand tools, large enough only to allow a maximum of two assistants."

Since that time, he has concentrated on museum-quality, one-of-a-kind furniture, primarily in the 18th century American style. He also creates 19th and 20th century historical styles, and designs and builds pieces that merge traditional values and proportions with contemporary idioms and exotic woods.

Sharp's impressive commissions include dining chairs, mantle pieces, carved Venetian blinds, faux-grained exterior doors, "Jackson" presses, and a replica of President George Washington's swiveling mahogany office chair at the Hermitage; a reinterpreted "Jackson" press and an oak bench using "treaty oak" lumber at the Tennessee State Museum; Windsor dining chairs and Baltimore-style painted settees at Travelers Rest; walnut "Gentleman's " chairs, the Speaker of the Senate's podium and Rococo Revival style Supreme Court Justice's chairs at the Tennessee State Capitol; and many more pieces in public and private homes and offices from Massachusetts to California.

He has captured numerous awards including the 2008 Cartouche Award of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers, Williamsburg, Va.; a commendation, "State of Tennessee House of Representative Resolution #294 on March 27, 2008; and being named a Fellow of the Emma Collaborative 2010, Saskatoon & Ness Creek, Saskatchewan, Canada;

He captured Best of Tennessee, 2002, at the Tennessee Artist Craftsman Association, in Chattanooga; and participated in the Wilson Art Exhibition in Philadelphia, Pa.; "Art of Tennessee" 2003 at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville; "Curvitures," sponsored by the Furniture Society, 2004-2005; "Out of the Woods," The Parthenon, Nashville, 2004; Gordon Jewish Community Center, Nashville, 2006; "Arms, Legs, Feet, Heart & Soul," Tennessee State Museum, 2009; Knoxville Museum of Art, 2009; and Contemporary Classics—Selections from the Society for American Period Furniture, Savannah, Ga., 2006. He was an invited artist to the Master Woodworkers Show in Knoxville, Tenn., in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011.

His work has been featured in the cover article of Woodshop News, November 2006, and the cover of the book, Studio Furniture—Today's Leading Woodworkers. Publications featuring his work include Colonial Homes, Antiques Magazine, Southern Living, Architecture of the Old South, Fine Woodwork, Woodwork, Custom Woodworking, and various books.

Sharp has served as an instructor on the "History of Furniture" and "Architectural Detailing" at O'More College of Art and Design in Franklin; instructor at Marc Adams School of Woodworking, Center for Furniture Craftsmanship; and instructor at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine.

Active in the profession, he is serving as president of The Furniture Society for 2011 to 2012, and on its Board of Trust from 2006 to 2013. He also has been president of the Cumberland Furniture Guild since 2002, is vice president since 2009 of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Association of Craft Artists, and is on the Board of Directors of the Cannon County Art Center.

Damico’s topic will be about Gallery services in the fields of art and photography. Custom picture framing, prints on canvas, giclee, fine art printing, art reproduction, photo restoration. His talk will also include support to artist for professional career development.

Michael Damico is a native of Nashville whose experience as a professional framer and gallery owner span over 10 years. He is an artist in both painting as well as photography and has shown in local and national exhibitions. He is currently very active in the Franklin Art Scene as well as First Friday Franklin Art Crawl.

Damico will be speaking on a variety of presentation techniques for a variety of artwork including paintings photography, works on paper as well as sculptor and jewelry. His expertise will include traditional methods as well as new breakthroughs in techniques and materials. He will also field question from the artist present on career development and professional growth.

Grab your lunch and join the Arts Council for a lunchtime of artistic fun and camaraderie. Guests are invited to bring a piece of their own artwork to share with the group. Learn how to turn envelopes into unique book structures! This project features paper cutting, a piano hinge and a unique way to show off decorative papers. We’ll cut designs and patterns into envelopes and slip decorative papers inside. Then we’ll seal, hinge and fold them in a variety of ways. This free half-day workshop will be offered twice, once on Friday, March 16 and again on Saturday, March 17. Make your own completely recycled Valentine’s Day cards. We will use found materials to print and collage an environmentally friendly card for your loved ones. We will teach easy folding techniques with repurposed paper to form the cards. Learning to use what we have around the home and office we will utilize items for alternative printing processes. Did you ever think you could use bubble wrap and paper clips to print beautiful artistic cards for any holiday. Come to the Library to learn how, all ages.
