Day 1.

- Instruct students about NeoPopRealism ink and pen pattern drawing and how Nadia Russ in 1989 created NeoPopRealism, who created this style in 1989, see http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/ and NeoPopRealism instructional book(s) in print. Have students investigate Nadia Russ' NeoPopRealist drawings concept: a line creates shape, then this shape is divided into sections. Then, the sections filled with different imaginative repetitive patterns, some sections left blank. Eraser never used because if a 'mistake' made, it visually disappears after the new patterns balance the whole composition (see Background and historical information and in http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/). Compare NeoPopRealist art with the drawings of realists artists, such as Rembrandt and others.

- Introduce students the NeoPopRealist 10 canons for happier life and discuss each of them..

- Discuss the current wars in different countries, including in the Eastern Ukraine, where the Ukrainian separatists and Russian ethnic group's civilians who are citizens of Ukraine struggle against the nationalistic Ukraine' Army. In February of 2014, the legitimate Ukrainian government was overthrown by nationalists and an illegal government was installed. Recent Ukrainian government took the Neo-Nazis course, having a motto "Ukraine is for Ukrainians only", see BBC's interview with Nazis Ukrainians: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SBo0akeDMY and other links in RESOURCES: http://neowhimsies.blogspot.com/2014/07/say-no-to-nazism-gr-9-12-adapt-3-5-6-8.html.

What happens in Ukraine now is like if the American natives - Indians - would start war against all ethnic groups who live in the USA, pushing them, using arms, out of the United States, saying "America is for its natives, for Indians only."

Also discuss the World War II, in which the German Nazis were defeated. Discuss the quotation about Peace (see above) by Buddha, Jimi Hendrix, and William Hazlitt.

- Ask students about the difference between NeoPopRealism 10 canons for happier life and Nazism ideology. What they'd prefer and why?

- Explain students that they'll draw artwork "PEACE" in the NeoPopRealist manner, using black ink pen.

- Focus on repetitive patterns: whirls, paralleled lines, strips, circles, zigzags, etc., their combination. Ask students to use their imagination when they draw patterns, suggest to enter the subconscious state of mind. Read how to do it in any of Nadia Russ' NeoPopRealism instructional book (strongly recommended, other way students can end up with doodling, instead of creating ART).

However, students should try not copy these patterns that above, but draw their new, created using their imagination.

Day 2.

Start 2nd day with a discussion of Peace and NeoPopRealism 10 canons for happier life. Remind students the NeoPopRealism drawing concept.

Students create a drawing "PEACE" using ink pen 0.7 mm.

After work is done, have students describe their artworks.

- Tell students about and discuss what the NeoPopRealism philosophy for happier life stands for (08.08.2014):

"To bring the peace to the earth, it is time to unite all the peace-loving people, to stop the use and production of the heavy military equipment and weapons of mass destruction, such as war ships, war planes, artillery, nuclear bombs, etc., in every part of the world, without any exception, once and forever.

It has to be an international law, according to which any person of any country, in any government, responsible for use (or attempt to use) the heavy military equipment in any part of the world to kill people, would be imprisoned for the rest of life without possibility of amnesty, as the mass murderer. All sales of the heavy military equipment worldwide should be stopped, as well as production of new military heavy equipment, as part of this future law. To keep this planet eco-friendly and beautiful, and people happy, we have to say 'good bye' to some irresponsible people's bloody toys." ~Nadia Russ.

- Ask students to create their own quotations about PEACE and to write it on the back of paper with their drawings. Later, you will pick the best quotations and will announce the best quote-producers. Ask student, what each of them personally could do to bring the peace on this planet?

Display publicly in your school all PEACE-artworks.

Lesson Plan - Background and Historical Information:

Nadia RUSS is a Ukrainian-born Russian painter/ graphic artist living in the USA. In 1989, she created a style of visual arts NeoPopRealism. In 2014, NeoPopRealism celebrates its 25th anniversary! Instead of careful copying reality - wild life or human figure - Nadia RUSS creates her artwork using imagination. As Nadia RUSS experimented and developed her distinctive techniques, her drawings became more symbolic. For her drawings she uses white paper and black ink pen. However, sometimes, she uses blue ink on white paper and gold/silver ink on black paper - http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/. In some mixed media artworks she even uses the nail polish and lipstick to make the bright accents.

If artwork made on canvas using color paints and a brush, then, it would be a combination of sections filled with hot and cold color paint, partly with patterns. In 1990, RUSS exhibited her first ink/ pattern drawings in a group exhibition in Moscow’s famous Manege. Later, she was exhibiting her artwork in art galleries. In 1996, she moved to the Freeport, Bahamas, where her artwork gained special brightness. In 2000, she came to the USA where she lives till present. Nadia Russ create a term “NeoPopRealism” January 4, 2003. Same year, she manifested her new style of visual arts NeoPopRealism internationally. In 2004, she created NeoPopRealism 10 canons for happier life. In 2006-2007, several US and European museums collected Nadia Russ’ paintings and drawings and now, these artworks are in the permanent collections of these museums.

About WWII

World War II was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, though related conflicts began earlier. It involved the vast majority of the world's nations—including all of the great powers—eventually forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, directly involved more than 100 million people, from more than 30 different countries. In a state of "total war", the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by mass deaths of civilians, including the Holocaust, the Three Alls Policy, the strategic bombing of enemy industrial and/or population centres, and the first use of nuclear weapons in combat, it resulted in an estimated 50 million to 85 million fatalities. These made World War II the deadliest conflict in human history.

Adolf Hitler. Hitler actively sought Lebensraum ("living space") for the German people. His aggressive foreign policy is considered to be the primary cause of the outbreak of World War II in Europe. He directed large-scale rearmament and on 1 September 1939 invaded Poland, resulting in British and French declarations of war on Germany. In June 1941, Hitler ordered an invasion of the Soviet Union. By the end of 1941 German forces and their European allies occupied most of Europe and North Africa. Failure to defeat the Soviets and the entry of the United States into the war forced Germany onto the defensive and it suffered a series of escalating defeats, partly because of Hitler's countless military blunders. In the final days of the war, during the Battle of Berlin in 1945, Hitler married his long-time lover, Eva Braun. On 30 April 1945, less than two days later, the two committed suicide to avoid capture by the Red Army, and their corpses were burned. Under Hitler's leadership and racially motivated ideology, the regime was responsible for the genocide of at least 5.5 million Jews, and millions of other victims whom he and his followers deemed racially inferior.

Ukrainian Nazis. Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union in Operation Barbarossa began on June 22, 1941, and by September the occupied territory was divided between two German administrative units, the General Government and the Reichskommissariat Ukraine.The military occupation of Ukraine by Nazi Germany, a large number of Ukrainians chose to cooperate with the Nazis. Reasons for this generally included resurgent Ukrainian nationalism and aspirations for independence, however these were coupled with rampant racism towards other ethnic groups (such as Tatars, Roma peoples and Poles) as well as a prevailing sentiment of antisemitism. However, the absence of Ukrainian autonomy under the Nazis, mistreatment by the occupiers, and the deportation of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians as slave laborers, soon led to a rapid change in the attitude among the collaborators.

PEACE. Peace is an occurrence of harmony characterized by lack of violence, conflict behaviors and the freedom from fear of violence. Commonly understood as the absence of hostility and retribution, peace also suggests sincere attempts at reconciliation, the existence of healthy or newly healed interpersonal or international relationships, prosperity in matters of social or economic welfare, the establishment of equality, and a working political order that serves the true interests of all.

The term 'peace' originates most recently from the Anglo-French pes, and the Old French pais, meaning "peace, reconciliation, silence, agreement" (11th century). But, Pes itself comes from the Latin pax, meaning "peace, compact, agreement, treaty of peace, tranquility, absence of hostility, harmony." The English word came into use in various personal greetings from c.1300 as a translation of the Hebrew word shalom, which, according to Jewish theology, comes from a Hebrew verb meaning 'to restore'. Although 'peace' is the usual translation, however, it is an incomplete one, because 'shalom,' which is also cognate with the Arabic salaam, has multiple other meanings in addition to peace, including justice, good health, safety, well-being, prosperity, equity, security, good fortune, and friendliness. At a personal level, peaceful behaviors are kind, considerate, respectful, just, and tolerant of others' beliefs and behaviors - tending to manifest goodwill. This latter understanding of peace can also pertain to an individual's introspective sense or concept of her/himself, as in being "at peace" in one's own mind, as found in European references from c.1200. The early English term is also used in the sense of "quiet", reflecting calm, serene, and meditative approaches to family or group relationships that avoid quarreling and seek tranquility — an absence of disturbance or agitation. In many languages the word for peace is also used as a greeting or a farewell, for example the Hawaiian word aloha, as well as the Arabic word salaam. In English the word peace is occasionally used as a farewell, especially for the dead, as in the phrase rest in peace.

Religious beliefs often seek to identify and address the basic problems of human life, including the conflicts between, among, and within persons and societies. Many Christians call Jesus of Nazareth the "Prince of Peace", and see him as a 'Messiah,' (which, transliterated, means Anointed One'), the "Christ", who manifested as the Son of God on Earth to establish God's Kingdom of Peace, wherein persons, societies, and all of Creation are to be healed of evil. Buddhists believe that peace can be attained once all suffering ends. They regard all suffering as stemming from cravings (in the extreme, greed), aversions (fears), or delusions. To eliminate such suffering and achieve personal peace, followers in the path of the Buddha adhere to a set of teachings called the Four Noble Truths — a central tenet in Buddhist philosophy. Islam means submission. The title "Muslim"—etymologically directly related to salaam and the name Islam—means a person who submits to Allah in salaam. The submission to Allah (the Arabic proper noun for "The God", One and Only) is based on humility. An attitude of humility within one's own self cannot be accomplished without total rejection of violence, and a personal attitude and alignment toward peace.

Pacifism is the categorical opposition to any forms of war or violence as means of settling disputes or gaining advantage. Pacifism covers a spectrum of views ranging from the belief that international disputes can and should be peacefully resolved; to calls for the abolition of the institutions of the military and war; to opposition to any organization of society through governmental force (anarchist or libertarian pacifism); to rejection of the use of physical violence to obtain political, economic or social goals; to opposition to violence under any circumstance, including defense of self and others. Pacifism may be based on moral principles (a deontological view) or pragmatism (a consequentialist view). Principled pacifism holds that violence of any form is an inappropriate response to conflict, and is morally wrong. Pragmatic pacifism holds that the costs of war and inter-personal violence are so substantial that better ways of resolving disputes must be found. Pacifists in general reject theories of Just War.

- Have students investigate NeoPopRealist drawings concept: a line creates shape (flower, human face, animal, etc.), then this shape is divided into sections. Then, the sections filled with different imaginative repetitive patterns, some sections should be left blank. Eraser never used because if a 'mistake' made it visually disappears after the new patterns balance the whole composition (see Background and historical information and http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/). Compare NeoPopRealist art with the drawings of realists artists, such as Rembrandt and others.

- Discuss the WWII and Nazism, show the Nazis' mascot. Discuss the quotations about Nazis by Franklin D. Roosevelt and Emeric Pressburger (see above).

- Have student explore and discuss the NeoPopRealism 10 canons for happier life (see them below). Ask students about the difference between NeoPopRealist canons for happy living and Nazism. What they'd prefer and why?

- Explain students that today they'll draw artwork "Say "NO!" to Nazism" in the NeoPopRealist manner, using black ink pen on white paper.

- Focus on repetitive patterns. It can be stars, whirls, paralleled lines, strips, circles, zigzags, etc., their combination and all possible variations. Ask students to use their imagination when they draw their patterns, suggest to enter the subconscious state of mind. Read how to do it in any of Nadia Russ' NeoPopRealism instructional How-To books (strongly recommended, other way students can end up with doodling instead of creating ART).

Students should try not copy the patterns that above, but draw new, created using their imagination.

Day 2.

Start 2nd day with a brief discussion of NeoPopRealism 10 canons for happier life and the differences between NeoPopRealism and Nazism philosophies. Remind students the NeoPopRealist drawing concept..

style of visual arts NeoPopRealism. In 2014, NeoPopRealism celebrates its 25th anniversary! Instead of careful copying reality - wild life or human figure - Nadia RUSS creates her artwork using imagination. As Nadia RUSS experimented and developed her distinctive techniques, her drawings became more symbolic. For her drawings she uses white paper and black ink pen. The Nazism
Nazism, Naziism, or National Socialism in full, is the ideology and practice associated with the 20th-century German Nazi Party and state as well as other related far-right groups today. It was also contemporaneous or promoted in other European countries, particularly those with large ethnic German communities such as Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania and Yugoslavia. Usually characterized as a form of fascism that incorporates scientific racism and antisemitism, Nazism originally developed from the influences of pan-Germanism, the Völkisch German nationalist movement and the anti-communist Freikorps paramilitary culture in post-First World War Germany, which many Germans felt had been left humiliated by the Treaty of Versailles. German Nazism subscribed to theories of racial hierarchy and social Darwinism, asserted the superiority of an Aryan master race, and criticised both capitalism and communism for being associated with Jewish materialism. It aimed to overcome social divisions, with all parts of a racially homogenous society cooperating for national unity and regeneration and to secure territorial enlargement at the expense of supposedly inferior neighbouring nations.

The Nazi Party was founded as the pan-German nationalist and antisemitic German Workers' Party in January 1919. By the early 1920s, Adolf Hitler had become its leader and assumed control of the organisation, now renamed the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei) in a bid to broaden its appeal. The National Socialist Program, adopted in 1920, called for a united Greater Germany that would deny citizenship to Jews or those of Jewish descent, while also supporting land reform and the nationalization of some industries. In Mein Kampf, written in 1924, Hitler outlined the virulent antisemitism and anti-communism that lay at the heart of his political philosophy, as well as his disdain for parliamentary democracy and his belief in Germany’s right to territorial expansion. In 1933, with the support of more traditional right-wing conservatives, Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and the Nazis gradually established a one-party totalitarian state, under which Jews, political opponents and other "undesirable" elements were marginalised, harassed and eventually imprisoned and killed. Once in power, Hitler purged the remnants of the party’s more socially and economically radical factions in the Night of the Long Knives and, following the death of President Hindenburg, ultimate authority became increasingly concentrated in his hands, as "Führer", or leader. Following the Holocaust and German defeat in the Second World War, only a few fringe racist groups, usually referred to as neo-Nazis, still describe themselves as following National Socialism.

A majority of scholars identify Nazism in practice as a form of far-right politics. Far-right themes in Nazism include the argument that superior people have a right to dominate over other people and purge society of supposed inferior elements. Adolf Hitler and other proponents officially portrayed Nazism as being neither left- nor right-wing, but syncretic. Hitler in Mein Kampf directly attacked both left-wing and right-wing politics in Germany.

The Nazis were strongly influenced by the post–World War I far-right in Germany, which held common beliefs such as anti-Marxism, anti-liberalism, and antisemitism, along with nationalism, contempt towards the Treaty of Versailles, and condemnation of the Weimar Republic for signing the armistice in November 1918 that later led to their signing of the Treaty of Versailles. A major inspiration for the Nazis were the far-right nationalist Freikorps, paramilitary organisations that engaged in political violence after World War I. Initially, the post-World War I German far right was dominated by monarchists, but the younger generation, who were associated with Völkisch nationalism, were more radical and did not express any emphasis on the restoration of the German monarchy. This younger generation desired to dismantle the Weimar Republic and create a new radical and strong state based upon a martial ruling ethic that could revive the "Spirit of 1914" that was associated with German national unity (Volksgemeinschaft).

German Nazism emphasized German nationalism, including both irredentism and expansionism. Nazism held racial theories based upon the belief of the existence of an Aryan master race that was believed to be superior to all other races. The Nazis emphasized the existence of racial conflict between the Aryan race and others, particularly Jews whom the Nazis viewed as a mixed race that had infiltrated multiple societies, and was responsible for exploitation and repression of the Aryan race

WWII

World War II was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, though related conflicts began earlier. It involved the vast majority of the world's nations—including all of the great powers—eventually forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, directly involved more than 100 million people, from more than 30 different countries. In a state of "total war", the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by mass deaths of civilians, including the Holocaust, the Three Alls Policy, the strategic bombing of enemy industrial and/or population centers, and the first use of nuclear weapons in combat, it resulted in an estimated 50 million to 85 million fatalities. These made World War II the deadliest conflict in human history.

Adolf Hitler

Hitler actively sought Lebensraum ("living space") for the German people. His aggressive foreign policy is considered to be the primary cause of the outbreak of World War II in Europe. He directed large-scale rearmament and on 1 September 1939 invaded Poland, resulting in British and French declarations of war on Germany. In June 1941, Hitler ordered an invasion of the Soviet Union. By the end of 1941 German forces and their European allies occupied most of Europe and North Africa. Failure to defeat the Soviets and the entry of the United States into the war forced Germany onto the defensive and it suffered a series of escalating defeats, partly because of Hitler's countless military blunders. In the final days of the war, during the Battle of Berlin in 1945, Hitler married his long-time lover, Eva Braun. On 30 April 1945, less than two days later, the two committed suicide to avoid capture by the Red Army, and their corpses were burned. Under Hitler's leadership and racially motivated ideology, the regime was responsible for the genocide of at least 5.5 million Jews, and millions of other victims whom he and his followers deemed racially inferior.

Ukrainian Nazis

Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union in Operation Barbarossa began on June 22, 1941, and by September the occupied territory was divided between two German administrative units, the General Government and the Reichskommissariat Ukraine.The military occupation of Ukraine by Nazi Germany, a large number of Ukrainians chose to cooperate with the Nazis. Reasons for this generally included resurgent Ukrainian nationalism and aspirations for independence, however these were coupled with rampant racism towards other ethnic groups (such as Tatars, Roma peoples and Poles) as well as a prevailing sentiment of antisemitism. However, the absence of Ukrainian autonomy under the Nazis, mistreatment by the occupiers, and the deportation of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians as slave laborers, soon led to a rapid change in the attitude among the collaborators.

Ukraine Today
In Ukraine, the Euromaidan movement's, that supports the Nazis and anti-Russian ideas (literally "Eurosquare"), protests started in November 2013, after the president Viktor Yanukovych decided to establish closer ties with Russia, instead of EU. Euromaidan organized a wave of demonstrations and civil unrest in Ukraine, the scope of which evolved to include calls for the resignation of legally elected President Yanukovych and his government. Riots left 98 dead with approximately 15,000 injured and 100 considered missing 18–20 February. The legally elected Ukrainian President Yanukovych was overthrown and the illegal nationalistic temporary government was installed. A new presidential election was 25 May, 2014, and the new president of Ukraine was elected. It was Petro Poroshenko, who was running on a pro-European Union platform. His closest election's rival Tymoshenko during the election, was only able to garner less number of votes. Upon his election, Poroshenko announced that his immediate priorities would be to take action in the civil unrest in the Russian-speaking Eastern Ukraine and mend ties with Russia. However, his first day after election was a day when the Ukrainian Army began more aggressive attacks in the East Ukraine and many civilians were dead as a result of it. Poroshenko was inaugurated as a president on 7 June 2014 in a low-key ceremony without a celebration on Kiev's Maidan Nezalezhnosti square (the center of the Euromaidan protests) for the ceremony.
But some questions need the answers::
#1. How legal the Poroshenko's Presidency is? According to the Ukrainian Constitution, there are only four ways for a previous President Yanukovych to leave his President's position, and none of them was used. Yanukovych was overthrown, and it is illegal according to the Ukrainian laws. This is why, according to the laws, Yanukovych is still the acting president of Ukraine.
#2. How different Yanukovich and Poroshenko are. Euromandan's nationalists claim that Yanukovich is corrupt. No comments. But let's make some research and find out more about Petro Poroshenko. Poroshenko is a billionaire, who made his money on production of the chocolate candies. However, these candies contain a potentially carcinogenic additive called benzopyrene. Said, it increases the candies' shelf life. Benzopyrenes intercalate into DNA, interfering with transcription and are considered Pollutants and Carcinogen. Carcinogens is an agent directly involved in causing cancer. See about Carcinogen in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcinogen/. It is not good to make money on spreading cancer. No wonder, Poroshenko said that he doesn't eat his candies. He did well with the candies's business in a super poor country as Ukraine and made a lot of money. #3.Let's make some research to find out, why and how P. Poroshenko won the election in Ukraine.
Before election, the promotional photographs of all presidential candidates were featured all over in Ukraine. However, the Poroshenko's photographs were different. His photographs were together with the top US's officials, made during the Munich Security Conference at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Germany, February 2014. These photographs of Poroshenko pictured him shaking the US's Secretary of State and other top officials hands. These images went viral in the poor and broke Ukraine, carrying the false messages that Poroshenko is better than other candidates, that he is "well-connected" and both America and West Europe will help Ukrainians to survive their massive economic and political mess. CRIMEA
After the legally elected President of UkraineYanukovych was overthrown by the Ukrainian anti-Russian Nationalists and the temporary government was installed in Ukraine, the people of Crimea, who in they majority are Russians, had a referendum and trough voting decided to leave Ukraine, asking Russia to add their land of Crimea to territory of Russia. Russian agreed and annexed the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea in March. It provoked sanctions against Russian officials and economy by the U.S. and the EU, who think that free will of Crimea people is illegal and that Crimean Russian ethnic has no right to live without discrimination by Ukrainian Nazis, who took the power in Ukraine. In fact, before 1954, Crimea was the Russian territory. However, on February 27, 1954 the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR had decreed on. February 19 the transfer of the Crimea from the RSFSR (Russian Republic) to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. It was Russian gift to Ukraine. Now, Crimeans refused to live under Ukrainian Nazis' regime and decided to go back together with they land where there came from. And this sounds fair. OBJECTIVE Students will:

2. Compare and contrast realistic art and NeoPopRealism.
3. Discuss the Dolphin's physics and character. Create a Dolphin.

- A book “How to Draw NeoPopRealism Ink Images: Basics", ISBN: 9780615515755 (Ask your library to purchase it through the libraries distributor Ingram - http://www.ingrambook.com/).
- 8.5”x11” white drawing paper
- Ink pen black

PREPARATION

Display some of Nadia RUSS’ art posters in the classroom. Have a presentation ready to show students Nadia Russ’ NeoPopRealism art - ink/ pen drawings. (Some posters are available here www.neopoprealism.net and http://neopoprealism.org)

LESSON PROCEDURE

1. Day 1: Introduce Nadia RUSS’ life/biography (read before this autobiographical book DECA-DaNCE, ISBN: 978-0615655680 (Ask your library to purchase this book
in Ingram - http://www.ingrambook.com) and NeoPopRealism style of visual arts drawing concept to students (this introduction can be found in a book, ISBN: 9780615515755). Compare Nadia Russ’ ink/pattern drawing, portraits, abstracts and pencil drawings by Rembrandt. Discuss how they are similar and different.
2. Discuss the dolphin's physics and character (see below)

3. Hand out 8.5”x11” papers and have students write their names on the back. Turn on music not loud or let students use headphones (preferably jazz). Demonstrate how to draw step-by-step the simplified NeoPopRealist drawing - DOLPHIN. See visual instruction: draw a line (contour) of an image. Then, divide it into sections by straight or whimsical lines, then, fill these sections with different exotic and simple patterns. Teach the drawing of different patterns, using imagination, ask student not to copy patterns but always create some new. Demonstrate how drawing the different patterns can change whole meaning of artwork and its character. Explain student that to draw Neopoprealism they should learn how to involve more than 16% of their brains gray matter abilities. Regularly, we use only 16% of the brain ability/capacity and it is not enough to create the decent NeoPopRealist artwork. If students won't be able to involve more that 16% of their brains abilities, they will end up with the drawings for dummies - the dull doodling.To break through, you need again explain how to involve more of the brains abilities and this information can be found in every instructional book by Nadia Russ in chapter "Get Inspired."

4. Day 2:
Offer students to draw the NeoPoprealist Dolphin from beginning to end.
5. Explore 10 NeoPopRealism canons for happier life.
6. Discuss with students the NeoPopRealism ink drawing concept: a line creates sections; then, these sections filled with different repetitive patterns, seemed asymmetrically. Eraser never used. Remind students that before they start to draw NeoPopRealism art, they must free their mind, trying to destroy all limitation/ memory that control their hands/ minds. No noise except music should be in a room, nothing should take their attention from the drawing process, including your notes.

Dolphins are often regarded as one of Earth's most intelligent animals. Compared to many other species, dolphin behavior has been studied extensively, both in captivity and in the wild.

Dolphins are cetacean mammals closely related to whales and porpoises. There are almost forty species of dolphin in 17 genera. They vary in size from 4 ft and 90 lb (Maui's dolphin), up to 30 ft and 10 tonnes (the orca or killer whale). They are found worldwide, mostly in the shallower seas of the continental shelves and are carnivores, eating mostly fish and squid. The family Delphinidae, the largest in the order Cetacea, evolved relatively recently, about ten million years ago during the Miocene.

The name is originally from Greek δελφίς (delphís), "dolphin", which was related to the Greek δελφύς (delphus), "womb". The animal's name can therefore be interpreted as meaning "a 'fish' with a womb". The name was transmitted via the Latin delphinus (the romanization of the later Greek δελφῖνος – delphinos), which in Medieval Latin became dolfinus and in Old French daulphin, which reintroduced the ph into the word. The term mereswine (that is, "sea pig") has also historically been used.

A group of dolphins is called a "school" or a "pod". Male dolphins are called "bulls", females "cows" and young dolphins are called "calves".

Along with whales and porpoises, dolphins are descendants of terrestrial mammals, most likely of the Artiodactyl order. The ancestors of the modern-day dolphins entered the water roughly 55 million years ago, in the Eocene epoch. Hind limb buds are apparent on an embryo of a spotted dolphin in the fifth week of development as small bumps (hind limb buds) near the base of the tail. The pin is approximately 1 inch long. Modern dolphin skeletons have two small, rod-shaped pelvic bones thought to be vestigial hind limbs. In October 2006, an unusual bottlenose dolphin was captured in Japan; it had small fins on each side of its genital slit, which scientists believe to be an unusually pronounced development of these vestigial hind limbs.

Dolphins are highly social animals, often living in pods of up to a dozen individuals, though pod sizes and structures vary greatly between species and locations. In places with a high abundance of food, pods can merge temporarily, forming a superpod; such groupings may exceed 1,000 dolphins. Membership in pods is not rigid; interchange is common. Dolphins can, however, establish strong social bonds; they will stay with injured or ill individuals, even helping them to breathe by bringing them to the surface if needed. This altruism does not appear to be limited to their own species. The dolphin Moko in New Zealand has been observed guiding a female Pygmy Sperm Whale together with her calf out of shallow water where they had stranded several times. They have also been seen protecting swimmers from sharks by swimming circles around the swimmers or charging the sharks to make them go away. Dolphins communicate using a variety of clicks, whistle-like sounds and other vocalizations. Dolphins also use nonverbal communication by means of touch and posturing. Dolphins also display culture, something long believed to be unique to humans (and possibly other primate species). In May 2005, a discovery in Australia found Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops aduncus) teaching their young to use tools. They cover their snouts with sponges to protect them while foraging. This knowledge is mostly transferred by mothers to daughters, unlike simian primates, where knowledge is generally passed on to both sexes. Using sponges as mouth protection is a learned behavior. Another learned behavior was discovered among river dolphins in Brazil, where some male dolphins use weeds and sticks as part of a sexual display.

Various methods of feeding exist, some apparently exclusive to a single population. Fish and squid are the main food, but the false killer whale and the orca also feed on other marine mammals. Orcas on occasion also hunt whale species larger than themselves.

Dolphins are capable of making a broad range of sounds using nasal airsacs located just below the blowhole. Roughly three categories of sounds can be identified: frequency modulated whistles, burst-pulsed sounds and clicks. Dolphins communicate with whistle-like sounds produced by vibrating connective tissue, similar to the way human vocal cords function, and through burst-pulsed sounds, though the nature and extent of that ability is not known. The clicks are directional and are for echolocation, often occurring in a short series called a click train. The click rate increases when approaching an object of interest. Dolphin echolocation clicks are amongst the loudest sounds made by marine animals

This Lesson plan addresses the areas of art, language arts, science, social studies. It addresses the concept areas of art and art production, world history, and the NeoPopRealism as part of Art history.

Goal:
This lesson plan is designed to help student understand what is a mural and how does it communicate ideas about the person personality and culture. It develops imaginative thinking and creative actions, leads students to innovative results and prepare for greater in-depth learning in different subject areas.

Visit the local library to consult books on fresco painting in different cultures around the globe, including Pre-historic cave paintings, Minoan and Ancient Greek, Roman in Pompeii, Pre-Columbian, Italian Renaissance, Egyptian, Chinese, Hindu, Mexican muralists of the 20th century, and more.

Objectives:
Students will learn

- why people have painted their walls since the beginning of time (for expression of cultural values and history, for decoration, and as a ritual);
- what a mural is;
- to compare mural / fresco paintings throughout time from around the world's cultures;
- how a fresco is made;
- about the permanence and purpose of using mural/ fresco as a medium;
- to use imagination while creating the NeoPopReaism ink pen/pattern drawings on the wall surface; - exercise/prepare yourself to draw the NeoPopRealist abstract fresco's designs on the thick cardboard;
- develop measuring and estimation skills;
- represent self through symbols and images

Students must have some drawing skills.

ATTN Art Teachers: Please always use a term 'NeoPopRealism' or 'Neopoprealism' when you teach this art style, not "neo-pop realism" or "neo pop realism." A term NeoPopRealism is to describe art style created by Nadia Russ. All other terms-variations are created by unprofessional people, not related to visual arts who just playing with words. Please be professional!

Materials:
- the thick piece of white cardboard (rectangular shape)
- white drawing paper 9"x12"
- black ink marker for mini project
- black and white tempera or non-toxic acrylic, depending on surface of painting for large project
- stacks of newspaper to use underneath the drawing while painting the mural

The lesson could be completed by having students make a sketch for a mural or by actually creating a mural / fresco on a piece of canvas, butcher paper or on a wall surface.

The Procedure:

Day 1.

- Explain (or remind if students already familiar) the concept of the NeoPopRealism ink & pen pattern drawing and when and how artist Nadia Russ created this style. Focus on 25-year Anniversary of NeoPopRealism in 2014;
- Explain the process and history of mural/ fresco painting (see RESOURCES).

- Discuss with students the difference between a mural made in fresco and one made using other painting techniques.

- Explain how the mural/fresco can be done, including supported material, such stacks of newspaper to use underneath the drawing while perforating an outline of the image

- Examine and discuss murals / frescoes images (print them from online resources or books) from different cultures and centuries.

- Discuss the ways of making frescoes /murals: a fresco is a type of a mural painting, it is made by applying pigments dissolved in lime water to freshly spread, damp plaster. However, the students will create their NeoPopRealist murals using acrylic or tempera (water-based paint) - the black on white surface, applying paint directly on the wall.

About a Mural is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other large permanent surface. A distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is that the architectural elements of the given space are harmoniously incorporated into the picture. Some wall paintings are painted on large canvases, which are then attached to the wall (e.g., with marouflage). Whether these works can be accurately called "murals" is a subject of some controversy in the art world, but the technique has been in common use since the late 19th century.

Murals of sorts date to Upper Paleolithic times such as the paintings in the Chauvet Cave in Ardèche department of southern France (around 30,000 BC). Many ancient murals have survived in Egyptian tombs (around 3150 BC),[2] the Minoan palaces (Middle period III of the Neopalatial period, 1700-1600 BC) and in Pompeii (around 100 BC - AD 79). In modern times, the term became more well-known with the Mexican "muralista" art movement (Diego Rivera, David Siqueiros, or José Orozco). There are many different styles and techniques. The best-known is probably fresco, which uses water-soluble paints with a damp lime wash, a rapid use of the resulting mixture over a large surface, and often in parts (but with a sense of the whole). The colors lighten as they dry. The marouflage method has also been used for millennia.Murals today are painted in a variety of ways, using oil or water-based media. The styles can vary from abstract and trompe-l'œil (a French term for "fool" or "trick the eye") to NeoPopRealist. Initiated by the works of mural artists like Graham Rust or Rainer Maria Latzke in the 1980s, trompe-l'oeil painting has experienced a renaissance in private and public buildings in Europe. Today, the beauty of a wall mural has become much more widely available with a technique whereby a painting or photographic image is transferred to poster paper or canvas which is then pasted to a wall surface (see wallpaper, Frescography) to give the effect of either a hand-painted mural or realistic scene.

Historical fact: First NeoPopRealist mural, was made by Nadia Russ in 1992; she used the acrylic, water-based paint, that was applied by brush directly on the large wall surface in "Pattern Singer Co.", in Fashion district of Manhattan, New York City.

In the history of mural several methods have been used: q fresco painting, from the Italian word affresco which derives from the adjective fresco ("fresh"), describes a method in which the paint is applied on plaster on walls or ceilings. The buon fresco technique consists of painting in pigment mixed with water on a thin layer of wet, fresh, lime mortar or plaster. The pigment is then absorbed by the wet plaster; after a number of hours, the plaster dries and reacts with the air: it is this chemical reaction which fixes the pigment particles in the plaster. After this the painting stays for a long time up to centuries in fresh and brilliant colors.Fresco-secco painting is done on dry plaster (secco is "dry" in Italian). The pigments thus require a binding medium, such as egg (tempera), glue or oil to attach the pigment to the wall.Mezzo-fresco is painted on nearly-dry plaster, and was defined by the sixteenth-century author Ignazio Pozzo as "firm enough not to take a thumb-print" so that the pigment only penetrates slightly into the plaster. By the end of the sixteenth century this had largely displaced the buon fresco method, and was used by painters such as Gianbattista Tiepolo or Michelangelo. This technique had, in reduced form, the advantages of a secco work.

Today, different muralists tend to become experts in their preferred medium and application, whether that be oil paints, emulsion or acrylic paints applied by brush, roller or airbrush/aerosols.

- Focus on NeoPopRealist art concept, demonstrate how different types of repetitive patterns, their combination and line's turns can change image's character.

When you/ students draw the line and patterns, you/ they use imagination, it is unconscious process. To learn how to enter the state of mind in which they have to produce the mural, read them a Chapter "Get Inspired" (this chapter can be found in every instructional NeoPopRealism' book by Nadia Russ.) This information is important to create a piece of art. If the students will not be able to enter this state of mind, the art work will be poor.

- Instruct students never copy the patterns or the lines' turns, because it kills the spirit f artwork, that should be unique. Copying is craft, not ART.

Offered below drawings are offered not to copy them, but to examine them and to learn the creative process step-by-step. Copying kills the imagination. Never copy other drawings, however students can draw texture, looking at the nature or the objects they see around, in the real life.

Regularly, when you draw your ink pen/ patterns drawings-abstracts, avoid using the square shape paper because the square is limiting you, adding the heavy restrictions as if you were putting your creativity into a "prison" of a space. The square is limiting your imagination and potentials to create the versatile images, expressing yourself the best ways you can. Choose the rectangular size of paper, it gives you an opportunity to be unlimited and unique in your fantasy and imagination without any restrictions from outside. This particular project - Mural "NeoPopRealism is 25! - uses the rectangular shape..

- Explain students, that the use of simple repetitive patterns can create miracle, resulting in absolutely different, unique images, that carry spirit of the artist. (See enlarged visual instructions at http://neopoprealismartlessonplans.blogspot.com/). It again proves that the drawing complicated patterns is more geometry, doodling or architectural matter (depends on your artistic skills), but not ART. The value of artwork is not in complication of patterns, but in the balance of composition and the spirit of artwork. It is very easy to differenciate the good and bad artworks: at good artworks you can stare for hours, and if artwork is bad, you cannot/ look at it longer than a few seconds-minutes.

-Have students divide the 9"x12" piece of paper into shapes (sections) free-style.

Abstract in visual arts refers to an object or image which has been distilled from the real world. Artwork that reshapes the natural world for expressive purposes is called abstract; that which derives from, but does not imitate a recognizable subject is called nonobjective abstraction. In the 20th century the trend toward abstraction coincided with advances in science, technology, and changes in urban life, eventually reflecting an interest in psychoanalytic theory. Later still, abstraction was manifest in more purely formal terms, such as freedom from objective context, and a reduction of form to basic geometric designs. In 1989, Nadia Russ created new style of visual arts and NeoPopRealism abstract way of ink pen drawing. This NeoPopRealism abstract ink pen/ pattern drawing style is created through combination of seemed chaotically appeared different patterns' sections. However, this "chaos" turns into the harmonic abstracts.

Day 2

- Continue to draw the image for the wall mural.Have students fill sections with unique designs/ patterns. Make sure students fill each section with different designs/ patterns, trying to build the balanced composition. As every artist, they draw themselves, using their imagination, without copying designs/ patterns combinations. This is not the dull-drawing, as the doodlers do, creating their tangles:). Try involve more of the gray matter, strain your brain.

- Have students under the abstract drawing, make sign "NeoPopRealism is 25!", related to the 25-year anniversary of NeoPopRealism - 1989-2014.
- Paint using gold color paint horizontal strip on the top, above the abstract drawing.

- Compare the students' works, display the best work. Discuss results from artistic point of view.

After the murals samples have been made and the best works were showcased, you can create with children the NeoPopRealist mural in school, in a lobby or even outdoor. January 4, 2003 Nadia Russ created a term to name her new and unique style - NeoPopRealism. In 2004, a few swindlers-craftsmen, who did not know that all Nadia Russ' achievements since early 90s were documented, decided to present themselves as the "creators" of this ink pen/ pattern drawing style. This infamous and at the same time comedic story began in 2002, when Nadia Russ lived in Florida, renting from one of the shameless and hungry for $ swindlers an apartment on the beach... Creating Logos for T-Shirts, dedicated to 25th (or 26th, 27th, etc.) Anniversary of NeoPopRealism, created by Nadia Russ in 1989; and 10th (or 11th, 12th, etc.) Anniversary of the NeoPopRealism 10 canons for happier life, created in 2004

Brief description: This lesson plan takes inspiration from Nadia RUSS and art style NeoPopRealism she created in 1989 . In 2014 NeoPopRealism is 25 and NeoPopRealist 10 canons for happier life have their 10-year anniversary.

Students will be acquiring knowledge of the anniversaries of NeoPopRealism and the global implications for our demand for T-shirts.
Students will examine the evolution of T-shirts, the mini-billboards.
Students will learn the elements and procedures of logo design.
Students will produce the actual T-shirts' logos and will wear the T-shirts with their logos.
Students will learn how to sell their T-shirts in stores online for profit.
This lesson will teach students the real world skills.

Objectives

Students will:

- learn about 25-year anniversary of NeoPopRealism art style and its creator Nadia Russ;

- learn about 10-year anniversary of the NeoPopRealism 10 canons for happier life;

- learn historical, cultural, social and economic importance of T-shirt designs and T-shirts;

- learn about process of image/logo preparation for T-shirts and the image requirements (size not less that 300dpi., file must be .PNG, etc.);

- learn process involved in designing T-shirts' logos: to use scanner and computer's program Paint for image/ logo editing if needed;

- learn to work solo to draw/ create a unique designs to be presented to the public;

- participate in constructive critiques;

- learn how to use technology/ computer/ internet to turn a unique logo design into a mini-billboard, available as physical T-shirts to the people from all over the globe, selling these T-shirts from the online stores for profit.

- white 8"x11" cardstock paper
- computer/ internet
- scanner

Procedures

Day 1:1. Teacher introduces the NeoPopRealism ink & pen pattern drawing style and a brief biography of its creator, artist Nadia Russ, focusing on 25-year NeoPopRealism art style anniversary and 10-year anniversary of 10 NeoPopRealist canons for happier life - http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/.

Explains students an importance of their creativity and importance of art & design to produce their T-shirts.

Explain students that they will need to create a quality design that should get attention of parents, friends, the school's administration, seniors, and people they do not know.
Explain that students' designs must satisfy the requirements.

2. Teacher shows a sample of a T-shirt's logo "NeoPopRealism is 25!" (see above). Students answer the following questions:

- Who was the shirt designed for and for what kind anniversary?

- What captured your attention and why people would like it and possibly buy it?

3. Students do not copy the offered fonts style of the logo that above, they draw their unique designs of the letters of the words and letters "NeoPopRealism is 25!". It can have the humorous elements or can be serious (they choose the character of their font). Their choice will form the basis for discussion about successful designs.

Write the class findings on a chart and keep it visible during the entire creative process.

4. Explain students that their goal now is to take Nadia Russ' idea of the NeoPopRealist anniversary logo and merge it with their own imagination to come up with the unique result. Then, have students come up with a three criteria that they can use to make sure that their designs meet the artistic/ design requirements. The teacher should record their findings and also should add to the students criteria his/her own. These criteria should be available to all during the entire creative process.

5. Have each student draw his/her unique design of the "NeoPopRealism is 25!" logo for T-shirt (examine, but not copy the sample above). Students draw letters of a word "NeoPopRealism"and digits, using any font they wish. Later, they divide these letters and digits into sections, and then fill these sections with different imaginative repetitive patterns, following their feeling of harmony and composition, developing it as a skill. The unfinished sketches should be placed in the folders until next day's class.

Day 2:

1. Ask students to write one word/characteristic on the back of paper - the description of the letters/digits' shapes used in a logo "NeoPopRealism is 25!": humorous, serious, stylish....

2. Remind students the NeoPopRealism ink & pen pattern drawing concept. Then, ask students divide the letters/digits' shapes into sections, then fill these sections with different patterns, trying to maintain the balanced composition. Some sections should be left blank.

3. Explain students how to use scanner (if they are not familiar with it yet). The images of their logos must be scanned and saved to their computers as .PNG files (preferred) or .at least JPEG, size minimum 8"x11", and resolution not less than 300 dpi.

Then, if needed, students edit their images using their computers' program Paint. the editing is like art. Students model design - they add some elements, borders, if needed, keeping the composition balanced. The edited logos students save to their computers as .PNG files. They can perform this scanning and editing it in school or at home, with parents.

Ask students create 2nd logo for same T-shirt that contains NeoPopRealism 10 canons for happier life or use logo file (.PNG, 300 dpi) you see below. Simply clink on it, then click again to enlarge to maximum size, and then save to your computer.

Students place it on the back of their T-shirts.

Students can create this logo, using any suitable font, on their computer, using program Paint and, then, saving it as .PNG file with resolution 300 dpi. To do that they need a large screen computer. This Paint program allows to create the logos/images using different types of font, of any size and color. Same as the 1st logo, this logo must be of the large size image, .PNG file, with minimum resolution 300 dpi. All these requirements are necessary for the high quality T-shirts' logos, it should be not blurry (very important).

Both .PNG files-logos would be perfect for the white and other light color T-shirts. However, for the dark colors T-shirts, the files of logos' images mast be saved to computer as the transparent files.

Day 3:

Ask students if they know a history of T-shirt. Students learn about T-shirts, its evolution and design/ production for T-shirts.

Inform students that in 2nd decade of 21st century, because of the technological achievements and computerization of society, everything is very simplified, including the T-shirts production and selling then in online stores.

Introduce students several online stores where people create and sell their own uniquely designed T-shirts to the worldwide consumer. One of such stores is the widely known www.Cafepress.com/.

Each student (together with his/her parents at home) can create in www.CafePress.com their free account, and, then, create a unique online store free of charge. It is easy as 1-2-3, it takes about 5 minutes.

When store is created, each student selects from the offered products T-shirts, and, then, he/she uploads there his/her unique "NeoPopRealism is 25!" logo he/she created in school. Simply follow step-by-step CafePress' instructions. The commissions $2.00-$5.00 or more per T-shirt can be added. Students can gain profit if T-shirts sold from their online stores. After T-shirt is purchased by customer, it will be produced and shipped to this customer by the CafePress.com within a 2-3 days.

Explain students that to sell as many T-shirts as possible from their own online CafePress.com stores, students would need to promote their stores in real life, among friends and relatives, and also online, using the social network's websites, such as Facebook, Pinterest, and different blogs. Students learn how to present their product - T-shirts, how to create the press releases that contain most important information about T-shirts they sell. The information about product (T-shirts) they should make available to as many people from all over the globe as possible. Only then, they will be able to gain (large) commissions, after T-shirt(s) sold. Student should spend some time marketing their T-shirts.

As the owners of stores, the students and their parents will be able to obtain their uniquely designed "NeoPopRealism" T-shirts for less from their own stores. T-shirt(s) of chosen size and quantity will be shipped by CafePress to the student's home door. The wearing their own "NeoPopRealism is 25!" T-shirts is the best product's promotion.

Day 4:

CELEBRATION

The final presentation with an emphasis on 25-year anniversary of NeoPopRealism and 10-year anniversary of NeoPopRealist 10 canons for happier life, creative presentation of information, communication ideas and knowledge take place in school.

Students will be given a chance for a written/ verbal design presentation that explores the NeoPopRealism and what they know about T-shirts and process of creating the logos.
This will be graded by the teacher and the best T-shirts will be presented to the School's administration for evaluation.

Enrichment Extension Activities

Students can interview other students regarding NeoPopRealism 10 canons for happier life (see below) and 25-year anniversary of NeoPopRealism. Students can create a club that will advocate for the NeoPopRealist philosophy for happier life and use of organic cotton, and partner with local designers and stores who design and sell T-shirts. Students could also expand this idea and campaign for positive global change.

About NeoPopRealism and Nadia Russ

Nadia RUSS is a Ukrainian-born Russian painter/ graphic artist, she lives in the USA. She is famous for innovative NeoPopRealism art and ink & pen pattern drawing, including abstract, the meditative drawing style that she created in 1989. Instead of careful copying reality - wild life or human figure, Nadia RUSS creates her artwork using imagination. As Nadia RUSS experimented and developed her distinctive techniques, her drawings became more or less symbolic. For her drawings she uses white paper and black ink pen. However, sometimes, she uses blue ink on white paper and gold/silver ink on black paper - http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/.How did Nadia RUSS develop her unique and original style NeoPopRealism? RUSS had studied classical drawing and composition since she was a child, but as she studied she found herself drawn to produce less realistic, more imaginative artwork. About a T-Shirt

A T-shirt (T shirt or tee) is a style of shirt. A T-shirt's defining characteristic is the T shape made with the body and sleeves. It is normally associated with short sleeves, a round neck line, and no collar. However, it may also include long, buttons, collars, or v-necks. T-shirts are typically made of cotton fibers, knitted together in a jersey stitch that gives a T-shirt its distinctive soft texture. The majority of modern T-shirts have a body that is made from a continuously woven tube, so the torso has no side seams. This is accomplished with special weaving machines called circular looms, which produce seamless fabric for tube tops, stockings, and the like. Conventional stitching is used for the waist band, neck band, sleeves and to close the shoulders. The manufacture of T-shirts has become highly automated, and may include fabric cutting by laser or water jet.

T-shirt fashions include many styles for both men and women, and for all age groups, including baby, youth, teen, adult and elderly sizes.

The T-shirt evolved from undergarments used in the 19th century, through cutting the one-piece "union suit" underwear into separate top and bottom garments, with the top long enough to tuck under the waistband of the bottoms. T-shirts, with and without buttons, were adopted by miners and stevedores during the late 19th century as a convenient covering for hot environments.

T-shirts, as a slip-on garment without buttons, originally became popular in the United States when they were issued by the U.S. Navy during or following the Spanish American War. These were a crew-necked, short-sleeved, white cotton undershirt to be worn under a uniform. It became common for sailors and Marines in work parties, the early submarines, and tropical climates to remove their uniform "jacket", wearing (and soiling) only the undershirt.

Following WWII, it became common to see veterans wearing their uniform trousers with their T-shirts as casual clothing, and they became even more popular in the 1950s after Marlon Brando wore one in A Streetcar Named Desire, finally achieving status as fashionable, stand-alone, outer-wear garments.

A 1990s trend in women's clothing involved tight-fitting "cropped" T-shirts short enough to reveal the midriff. Another popular trend is wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt of a contrasting color over a long-sleeved T-shirt. This is known as "layering". T-shirts that are tight to the body are called fitted, tailored or "baby doll" t-shirts. Today, many notable and memorable T-shirts produced in the 1970s have now become ensconced in pop culture. Examples include the bright yellow happy face T-shirts, The Rolling Stones tops with their "tongue and lips" logo, and Milton Glaser's iconic "I ♥ N Y” design. In the mid-1980s, the white T-shirt became fashionable after the actor Don Johnson wore it with an Armani suit in Miami Vice.

The current holder of the Guinness World Record for "Most T-shirts Worn at Once" with 257 T-shirts is Sanath Bandara. The record was set in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on December 22, 2011. The record was attempted on stage in front of a crowd of people in a public park in Colombo. Bandara surpassed previous record-holder Hwang Kwanghee from South Korea, who had held the record at 252 shirts.

This imagination/abstract lesson plan employs four concepts: contextual information and research, questioning, reflection, and artwork-making.

Goal:
This lesson plan is designed to develop imaginative thinking and creative actions, to lead students to innovative results and prepare for greater in-depth learning in different subject areas. After viewing, analyzing and executing the imaginative work of art, the goal is to lead students to a synthesis that helps acquire a deeper understanding. Support imaginative learning in classroom, participate in the learning.

Objectives:
Students will
-use imagination to create the NeoPopReaism ink pen/pattern drawings/squares on paper 8"x11" - exercise/prepare yourself to draw the squares/designs on the thick cardboard, creating a chess board
-develop measuring/estimation skills
-represent self through symbols and images
-create from the thick piece of cardboard the custom chess board with NeoPopRealism ink pen pattern drawings/ squares (instead of just dark squares)
-spray the surface of the board with the clear varnish, completing the work.

ATTN Art Teachers: Please always use a term 'NeoPopRealism' or 'Neopoprealism' when you teach this art style, not "neo-pop realism" or "neo pop realism." A term NeoPopRealism is to describe art style created by Nadia Russ. All other terms-variations are created by unprofessional people, not related to visual arts who just playing with words. Please be professional!

Materials:
-the thick piece of white cardboard (square shape) for creating a chess board (can be different size)
-white drawing paper 8.5"x11"
-black thin ink pen 0.7 mm (not marker)
-clear vanish spray for paper

The Procedure:

Day 1.
-Explain (or remind if students already familiar) the concept of the NeoPopRealism ink pen/ pattern drawing.
-Draw the lines inside of each square that create sections. Then, fill these sections with different repetitive patterns (see illustrations below) . Demonstrate how different types of repetitive patterns and line's turns can change image's character.
When you/students draw the line and patterns, you/they use imagination, it is unconscious process. This drawing process is meditative.
You teach students not to copy but create new imaginative compositions and new imaginative patterns combinations.
Offered below drawings are not to copy them, but to examine them and to learn the creative process step-by-step. Copying kills the imagination. Never copy other drawings, however students can draw texture, looking at the nature or the objects they see around, in the real life.

Regularly, when you draw your ink pen/ patterns drawings-abstracts, avoid using the square shape paper because the square is limiting you, adding the heavy restrictions as if you were putting your creativity into a "prison" of a space. The square is limiting your imagination and potentials to create the versatile images, expressing yourself the best ways you can. Choose the rectangular size of paper, it gives you an opportunity to be unlimited and unique in your fantasy and imagination without any restrictions from outside.

This particular project - "Chess Board" - uses the squares only as the parts of the bigger arts/crafts project. However, to draw imaginative artwork, choose the rectangular shape of paper.

Teach students to create many different and unique abstract images using imagination, that will be combined together into one image.
Explain that often the use of same and simple repetitive patterns results in absolutely different images. (See enlarged visual instructions at http://neopoprealismartlessonplans.blogspot.com/)

-Have students divide the 8.5"x11" piece of paper into small squares/sections as shown om the illustrations below.
-Have students fill some sections with unique designs. Make sure students fill each square with different designs, using their imagination, without copying previous or other people's designs.

Day 2

-Explain students what is the Chess game, its brief history (see below).

-Have students measure and divide the thick cardboard into 64 same size squares, as if it would be the chess board.

-Have student fill 32 squares with different repetitive patterns/designs (examine illustration below), read at http://neopoprealismartlessonplans.blogspot.com/2012/11/neopoprealism-abstract-neowhimsies-gr-6.html.

-Have students spray the surface with a clear vanish. It has to dry before students can play the chess. Chess' figures students can use from the old chess they have at home.

-Compare the students' chess boards, display the best work. Discuss results from artistic point of view.

-Give information where students can learn this game (find online information about local chess clubs).

About chess game:

Chess known as "the game of kings." It can raise your IQ. Because the brain works like a muscle, it needs exercise like any bicep or quad to be healthy - chess exercises both sides of the brain. Chess game greatly increases originality and creativity. It improves memory, increases problem-solving skills, improves reading skills, concentration. It grows dendrites. It develops parts of the brain, responsible for planning, judgment, and self-control.

Chess is a two-player strategy board game played on a chessboard, a square checkered gameboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid. It is one of the world's most popular games, played by millions of people at home, clubs, online, by correspondence, and in tournaments.

Each player begins the game with sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. Each of the six piece types moves differently. Pieces are used to attack and capture the opponent's pieces, with the objective to 'checkmate' the opponent's king by placing it under an inescapable threat of capture. In addition to checkmate, the game can be won by the voluntary resignation of the opponent, which typically occurs when too much material is lost, or if checkmate appears unavoidable. A game may also result in a draw in several ways, where neither player wins. The course of the game is divided into three phases: opening, middlegame, and endgame.

The history of chess spans some 1500 years. The earliest predecessors of the game originated in India, before the 6th century AD. From India, the game spread to Persia. When the Arabs conquered Persia, chess was taken up by the Muslim world and subsequently spread to Southern Europe. In Europe, chess evolved into roughly its current form in the 15th century. In the second half of the 19th century, modern chess tournament play began, and the first world Chess Championship was held in 1886. The 20th century saw great leaps forward in chess theory and the establishment of the World Chess Federation (FIDE). Developments in the 21st century include use of computers for analysis, which originated in the 1970s with the first programmed chess games on the market. Online gaming appeared in the mid-1990s.

Why Learning Who You Are Makes Life More Fun and Easy (NeoPopRealism Journal, October, 2014. NYC)Do we, the people, really know who we are, when it comes to our genes, blood types, other physical differences we born with? Probably not. However, this knowledge would help us to live more interesting lives, using our time and energy the right way. It would help us to choose the right careers and even may be the right love/ marriage partners....
A little bit more than one year ago, the NeoPopRealism creator Nadia Russ accidentally learned more about her blood type's characteristics. She has the phesus A-Negative (actually same with the Adolf Hitler, but they are so different! Check NeoPopRealism 10 Canons for Happier Life created by Nadia Russ in 2004).
This new knowledge opened her eyes on many interesting things. Perfectionist, she naturally was striving for the best in everything - in inventing new art style and creating her artwork, in trying to bring some positive changes in the human society and her own life. Sometimes, she was disappointed, frustrated, did not know whom to blame, because seemed she did everything the right way, but it was going not as she expected, people did not understand her.
Today, she is more relaxed and happy, and without those too high expectations, even still working on positive changes. Today, she is more calm.
So what changed? - you might ask. Nothing, but her perception of reality. Why? Because she learned something about herself that changed everything. She learned that she doesn't have the monkey's protein in her blood, while the majority of the people on this planet have the monkey's protein in their blood. You might ask: And why would THIS change her perception of reality? Because now, Nadia knows that those people won't be able to understand her one hundred percent. Now, she has lowered her expectations because these peoples are still in a process of the mental and cultural development to the level of the pure human, who actually she is, according to the scientific study and her blood type. She has absolutely different ways of thinking and seeing things.
According to scientific study, the people who do not have the monkey's protein in their blood, are the pure humans and have the higher IQ. They are not a result of the evolution from the animal's world, as those who have the monkey's protein in their blood.Creating the NeoPopRealist Art style, Nadia was hopping to benefit the artistic and intellectual library of the human achievements. However, she saw indifference from the people who could not
straighten their brains and learn the new thing. She could not undersand what's on, is this so difficult to understand what she offers?
At the same time, she saw how the masses of peoples went for the primitive zen-doodling, the poor substitute of NeoPopRealist Art that uses the NeoPopRealist Art concept. Praising the tasteless drawings-doodling that have nothing in common with real Art, they are unable to catch the core idea of the NeoPopRealist Artwork and what makes NeoPopRealist Art the NeoPopRealist Art.

Only in 2013, Nadia Russ suddenly found the answers to many questions, then she learned who she is according to her blood type. The genes affect everything in our lives. And today, she is relaxed and do not expect too much from the masses, because as someone said: "Different strokes for different folks". She understood that NeoPopRealism Art is mostly for the pure humans, for the intellectual elite; and zen-doodling is for those, who have the monkey’s protein in their blood, for the masses who are still in the developmental process.
Actually both blood types - Negative and Positive - can be found in the peoples of all nationalities and races, however, there is only about 15% of the peoples with the Negative rhesus on this planet, and only about 5% with the A-Negative.

- create a unique greeting card's NeoPopRealism ink pen drawings using a theme 'Christmas";
- focus/ model: Greeting Cards

- print copies from the students' greeting cards "Merry Christmas!" that they drew during their art lesson. Students send these cards or give for Christmas to friends and relatives.

Class Period One:

Tell students a brief history of Christmas (see at the bottom of this page "Lesson plan background and historical information").

Examine the NeoPopRealism-NeoWhimsy greeting card "Merry Christmas!".

Instruct students about NeoPopRealism ink pen / pattern drawing style, its concept, and Nadia Russ, who created this art style in 1989 (see "Lesson plan background and historical information" below and in http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/).

Examine the traditional-realistic drawings of Santa Claus (find them online or use photographs/ prints). Have students respond to questions and make comparisons how the NeoPopRealist image of Santa Claus is different from traditional-realistic images of Santa Claus, emphasizing use of ink pen, lines and patterns, contrasting (black ink on white paper) to convey the character and emotion.

Discuss Christmas day and its history and celebration, see below in "Art lesson plan background and historical Information". Discuss Santa Claus, who is a portly, joyous, white-bearded man, regularly wearing a red coat with white collar and cuffs, white-cuffed red trousers, and black leather belt and boots. Images of him rarely have a beard with no moustache. This image popular in the US and Canada since 19th century due to the significant influence of Clement Clarke Moore's 1823 poem "A Visit From St. Nicholas" and of caricaturist and political cartoonist Thomas Nast. This image has been maintained and reinforced through songs, radio, television, children's books and films. Focus on the repetitive patterns used in NeoPopRealist ink pen pattern drawing of the greeting card "Merry Christmas!". Ask students to reproduce these patterns and create new ones on separate white sheet of paper, using ink pen 0.7 mm - the strips, zigzags, waves, circles, whirles, dots, their variations and combinations:

Day 2.

Class Period Two:

Remind students the NeoPopRealism ink pen/ pattern drawing concept (see Lesson Plan - Background and Historical Information): a line creates a form, then this form divided into sections, then these sections filled with different repetitive patterns.

Have students fold a sheet of paper 8.5"x11" on the middle, do not cut it. Have students turn it horizontal - the folding line must be on the top. Students draw the images of offered greeting card "Merry Christmas!" - the contours of Santa Claus' body and Christmas trees. Have students divide the trees, the Santa Claus' beard, hat, and more into sections. Then, they fill these sections with different repetitive patterns, some sections they leave blank. Students create the NeoPopRealist Greeting card "Merry Christmas!" using their new knowledge about NeoPopRealism ink pen/ pattern drawing. Encourage them to use imagination and create the new patterns instead of copying the offered ones.

Have them discuss why they included each element-pattern and what was difficult and easy while creating the NeoPopRealist Greeting card "Merry Christmas!" Have them describe the meaning of this card - Christmas Day and Santa Claus. Suggest to print at home or print in school, using Printer, the cards from the recently created by students the NeoPopRealism "Merry Christmas!" greeting cards. Suggest to send or give these cards to the relatives and friends on Christmas day.

Evaluation:

Did the students follow directions and the guidelines?

Christmas day & Santa Claus:

Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and simply "Santa", is a figure with legendary, mythical, historical and folkloric origins who, in many western cultures, is said to bring gifts to the homes of the good children during the late evening and overnight hours of Christmas Eve, December 24. The modern figure was derived from the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas, which, in turn, may have part of its basis in hagiographical tales concerning the historical figure of gift giver Saint Nicholas. A nearly identical story is attributed by Greek and Byzantine folklore to Basil of Caesarea. Basil's feast day on January 1 is considered the time of exchanging gifts in Greece.

Christmas (Old English: Crīstesmæsse, meaning "Christ's Mass") is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ and a widely observed holiday, celebrated on December 25 by people around the world. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it closes the Advent season and initiates the twelve days of Christmastide. Christmas is a civil holiday in many of the world's nations, is celebrated by an increasing number of non-Christians, and is an integral part of the Christmas and holiday season.

The popular celebratory customs associated in various countries with Christmas have a mix of pre-Christian, Christian and secular themes and origins. Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift giving, Christmas music and caroling, an exchange of Christmas cards, church celebrations, a special meal, and the display of various Christmas decorations, including Christmas trees, Christmas lights, nativity scenes, garlands, wreaths, mistletoe, and holly. In addition, several closely related and often interchangeable figures, known as Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas and Christkind, are associated with bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season and have their own body of traditions and lore. Gift giving takes place on Christmas Day in most countries. Others practice gift giving on December 6, Saint Nicholas Day, and January 6, Epiphany.

Instruct students about NeoPopRealism ink & pen / pattern drawing style, its concept, and Nadia Russ, who created this art style in 1989 (see "Lesson plan background and historical information" below and in http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/).

Examine the traditional-realistic drawings of the turkey (find them online or use photographs/ prints). Have students respond to questions and make comparisons how the NeoPopRealist image of turkey are different from traditional-realistic images of turkey, emphasizing use of ink pen, lines and patterns, and contrasting (black ink on white paper) to convey the character and emotion.

Discuss turkey - where the turkeys live, the bird's body proportions, tail, wings, head, etc., the character of this bird. A turkey is a large bird in the genus Meleagris. Meleagris gallopavo, commonly known as the Wild Turkey, is native to the forests of North America. The domestic turkey is a descendant of this species. The other living species is Meleagris ocellata or the Ocellated Turkey, native to the forests of the Yucatán Peninsula. Turkeys are classed in the taxonomic order of Galliformes. Within this order they are relatives of the grouse family or subfamily. Males of both species have a distinctive fleshy wattle or protuberance that hangs from the top of the beak—called a snood in the Wild Turkey and its domestic descendants. They are among the largest birds in their ranges. As in many galliform species, the male (tom or gobbler) is larger and much more colorful than the female (hen).

Focus on the repetitive patterns used in a NeoPopRealist drawing of the greeting card "Never Give Up!", ask students to reproduce these patterns and create new ones on separate white sheet of paper, using ink pen 0.7 mm (see illustration below) - the strips, zigzags, waves, circles, whirles, dots, their variations and combinations.

Day 2.

Class Period Two:

Have students fold a sheet of paper 8.5"x11" at the middle, do not cut it. Have students turn it horizontal - the folding line must be on the top. Students draw the image of greeting card "Never Give Up!" - a contour of a turkey on the middle. Have students draw the turkey's tail and the wings, it will create the sections. Then, they fill these sections with different repetitive patterns. Some section should be left blank. Students create the NeoPopRealist Greeting card "Never Give Up!" using their new knowledge related to NeoPopRealism and imagination. Encourage them to use imagination and create the new patterns instead of copying the offered ones.

Have them discuss why they included each element-pattern, and what was difficult and easy while creating a NeoPopRealist Greeting card "Never Give Up!" Have them describe the meaning of this card and expression "Never Give Up!". Suggest or print in school, using Printer, the cards from the students' recently made the NeoPopRealism "Never Give Up!" greeting cards. Suggest to send or give these cards to the relatives or friends on Thanksgiving day

Thanksgiving day:

Thanksgiving Day is a holiday celebrated primarily in the USA Canada. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States and on the second Monday of October in Canada. The celebration often extends to the weekend that falls closest to the day it is celebrated. Several other places around the world have similar celebrations. Historically, Thanksgiving had roots in religious and cultural tradition. Today, Thanksgiving is primarily celebrated as a secular holiday.

The holiday's history in North America is rooted in English traditions dating from the Protestant Reformation. In the United States, the modern Thanksgiving holiday tradition is commonly traced to a 1621 celebration at Plymouth in present-day Massachusetts. The 1621 Plymouth feast and thanksgiving was prompted by a good harvest. In later years, the tradition was continued by civil leaders such as Governor Bradford who planned a thanksgiving celebration and fast in 1623. The practice of holding an annual harvest festival like this did not become a regular affair in New England until the late 1660s. Pilgrims and Puritans who began emigrating from England in the 1620s and 1630s carried the tradition of Days of Fasting and Days of Thanksgiving with them to New England. Several days of Thanksgiving were held in early New England history that have been identified as the "First Thanksgiving", including Pilgrim holidays in Plymouth in 1621 and 1623, and a Puritan holiday in Boston in 1631. Thanksgiving proclamations were made mostly by church leaders in New England up until 1682, and then by both state and church leaders until after the American Revolution. Various proclamations were made by royal governors, John Hancock, General George Washington, and the Continental Congress, each giving thanks to God for events favorable to their causes. Every year, the President of the United States will “pardon” a turkey, which spares the bird's life and ensures that it will spend the duration of its life roaming freely on farmland.

- Examine Nadia Russ, the NeoPopRealism creator's ink & pen pattern drawings to learn about the NeoPopRealism art style and its drawing concept, created in 1989 (if students are not familiar with this style yet) - see http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/. Look attentively at Realist drawing by Rembrandt and make comparisons.

- Focus on the 2012 election and how important it is because last four years the U.S. changed its direction and went socialistic, which means increasing number of the government workers, less opportunities for the regular people to achieve the American dream, less freedom and liberties. Remind about struggle of the regular people in the socialist countries such as ex-USSR and Cuba that is still under the totalitarian regime.

- Learn about GOP - Republican Party that promotes freedom and liberty, learn about its logo.

- Create GOP's logo in the NeoPopRealist ink & pen / pattern drawing manner.

Day 1.

Instruct students about NeoPopRealism ink & pen pattern drawing and Nadia Russ who created this style in 1989 - http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/. Have students investigate Nadia Russ' NeoPopRealist drawings (see posters in Resources) and drawing by Rembrandt and respond to questions and make comparisons.

Introduce students NeoPopRealism ink & pen pattern drawing style/concept: A line creates shape, then this shape is divided into sections. Then, the sections filled with different imaginative repetitive patterns, some sections left blank. Eraser never used because if a 'mistake' made it visually disappears after the new patterns balance the whole composition (see Background and historical information and in http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/).

Discuss the GOP's logo executed in the NeoPopRealist manner using black ink pen. Focus on repetitive patterns: stars, whirles, circles, zigzags, paralleled lines, strips, etc., ask students to reproduce these patterns on white sheet of paper:

Start 2nd day with a brief discussion election and the GOP's history:

Before the general election can be held in November 2012 for the presidency, each of the two major political parties - Republican (GOP) and Democratic - select its nominee through a series of primary elections. To win the nomination, a candidate must amass 50% plus one of delegates’ votes. The 2012 primaries are now over. Republican Mitt Romney accepted the nomination at the Republican National Convention August 27-30 in Tampa, FL, he runs against Democratic candidate Barack Obama. Mitt Romney is a businessman and the former governor of Massachusetts. As governor of Massachusetts, Romney pushed for a major healthcare reform bill that provided nearly universal coverage. Presidential election will be November 6, 2012.

Remind students NeoPopRealism ink & pen pattern drawing concept (see Resources). Have students make a GOP logo NeoPopRealism-style using ink pen 0.7 mm.

Have them describe their logos using knowledge of the GOP's history they recently learned.

The Republican Party (also called the GOP, for "Grand Old Party") is one of the two major contemporary political parties in the U.S., along with the Democratic Party. 18 presidents have been Republicans. Founded by anti-slavery activists in 1854, it dominated politics nationally for most of the period 1860-1932.

Currently the party's platform generally reflects American conservatism in the U.S. political spectrum. The Republican Party's conservatism is largely based upon its support of classical principles against the modern liberalism of the Democratic Party that is considered American liberalism in contemporary American political discourse.

Founded in the Northern states by anti-slavery activists, modernizers, ex-Whigs and ex-Free Soilers, the Republican Party became the principal opposition to the dominant Souther Democratic Party and the briefly popular Know Nothing Party. The main cause was opposition to the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which repealed the Missouri Compromise by which slavery was kept out of Kansas. The Northern Republicans saw the expansion of slavery as a great evil.

The first public meeting where the name "Republican" was suggested for a new anti-slavery party was held on March 20, 1854 in a schoolhouse in Ripon, Wisconsin.

The first official party convention was held on July 6, 1854 in Jackson, Michigan. By 1858, the Republicans dominated nearly all Northern states. The Republican Party first came to power in 1860 with the election of Abraham Lincoln to the Presidency and Republicans in control of Congress and again, the Northern states. It oversaw the saving of the union, the end of slavery, and the provision of equal rights to all men in the American Civil War and Reconstruction, 1861-1877.

The Republicans' initial base was in the Northeast and the upper Midwest. With the realignment of parties and voters in the Third Party System, the strong run of John C. Fremont in the 1856 Presidential election demonstrated it dominated most northern states.

Early Republican ideology was reflected in the 1856 slogan "free labor, free land, free men", which had been coined by Salmon P. Chase, a Senator from Ohio (and future Secretary of the Treasury and Chief Justice of the U.S.)

"Free labor" referred to the Republican opposition to slave labor and belief in independent artisans and businessmen.

"Free land" referred to Republican opposition to plantation system whereby the rich could buy up all the good farm land and work it with slaves, leaving the yeoman independent farmers the leftovers.

The GOP supported business generally, hard money (i.e., the gold standard), high tariffs to promote economic growth, high wages and high profits, generous pensions for Union veterans, and (after 1893) the annexation of Hawaii. As the northern post-bellum economy boomed with heavy and light industry, railroads, mines, fast-growing cities and prosperous agriculture, the Republicans took credit and promoted policies to sustain the fast growth.

Nevertheless, by 1890 the Republicans had agreed to the Sherman Antitrust Act and the Interstate Commerce Commission in response to complaints from owners of small businesses and farmers. The high McKinley Tariff of 1890 hurt the party and the Democrats swept to a landslide in the off-year elections, even defeating McKinley himself.

After the two terms of Democrat Grover Cleveland, the election of William McKinley in 1896 is widely seen as a resurgence of Republican dominance and is sometimes cited as a realigning election. McKinley promised that high tariffs would end the severe hardship caused by the Panic of 1893, and that the GOP would guarantee a sort of pluralism in which all groups would benefit.

The Republicans were cemented as the party of business, though mitigated by the succession of Theodore Roosevelt who embraced trust busting. He later ran on a third party ticket of the Progressive Party and challenged his previous successor William Howard Taft. The party controlled the presidency throughout the 1920s, running on a platform of opposition to the League of Nations, high tariffs, and promotion of business interests.

The New Deal coalition of Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt controlled American politics for most of the next three decades, excepting the two-term presidency of Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower. African Americans moved into the Democratic Party during Roosevelt's time. After Roosevelt took office in 1933, New Deal legislation sailed through Congress at lightning speed. In the 1934 midterm elections, 10 Republican senators went down to defeat, leaving them with only 25 against 71 Democrats. The House of Representatives was split in a similar ratio.

Republicans in Congress heavily criticized the "Second New Deal" and likened it to class warfare and socialism. The volume of legislation, and the inability of the Republicans to block it, soon elevated the level of opposition to Roosevelt. Conservative Democrats, mostly from the South, joined with Republicans led by Senator Robert Taft to create the conservative coalition, which dominated domestic issues in Congress until 1964. The Republicans recaptured Congress in 1946 after gaining 13 seats in the Senate and 55 seats in the House.

The second half of the 20th century saw election or succession of Republican presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush.

In the Presidential election of 2008, the party's nominees were Senator John McCain, of Arizona, for President and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin for Vice President. They were defeated by Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and Senator Joe Biden of Delaware.

2010 was a year of political success for the GOP, starting with the upset win of Scott Brown in the Massachusetts special Senate election for the seat held for many decades by the Kennedy brothers. In the November elections, the GOP recaptured control of the House, increased their number of seats in the Senate, and gained a majority of governorships. Additionally, Republicans took control of at least 19 Democratic-controlled state legislatures.

The party's founding members chose the name "Republican Party" in the mid-1850s as homage to the values of republicanism promoted by Thomas Jefferson's Republican party. The idea for the name came from an editorial by the party's leading publicist Horace Greeley, who called for, "some simple name like 'Republican' [that] would more fitly designate those who had united to restore the Union to its true mission of champion and promulgator of Liberty rather than propagandist of slavery." The name reflects the 1776 republican values of civic virtue and opposition to aristocracy and corruption.

The term "Grand Old Party" (GOP) is a traditional nickname for the Republican Party. The term originated in 1875 in the Congressional Record, referring to the party associated with the successful military defense of the Union as "this gallant old party"; the following year in an article in the Cincinnati Commercial, the term was modified to "grand old party". The first use of the abbreviation is dated 1884.

The traditional mascot of the party is the elephant. A political cartoon by Thomas Nast, published in Harper's Weekly on November 7, 1874, is considered the first important use of the symbol. In the early 20th century, the usual symbol of the Republican Party in Midwestern states such as Indiana and Ohio was the bald eagle, as opposed to the Democratic rooster.

After the 2000 election, the color red became associated with the GOP, although the party has not officially adopted it.

The Republican Party includes fiscal conservatives, social conservatives, neoconservatives, moderates, and libertarians. Republicans emphasize the role of free markets and individual achievement as the primary factors behind economic prosperity. To this end, they favor laissez-faire economics, fiscal conservatism, and the promotion of personal responsibility over welfare programs.

Most Republicans agree there should be a "safety net" to assist the less fortunate; however, they tend to believe the private sector is more effective in helping the poor than government is. As a result, Republicans support giving government grants to faith-based and other private charitable organizations to supplant welfare spending.

Many contemporary Republicans voice support of strict constructionism, the judicial philosophy that the Constitution should be interpreted narrowly and as close to the original intent as is practicable rather than a more flexible "living Constitution" model.

Most Republicans support school choice through charter schools and school vouchers for private schools; many have denounced the performance of the public school system and the teachers' unions. The party has insisted on a system of greater accountability for public schools, most prominently in recent years with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.

The Republican Party has always advocated a strong national defense, historically they disapproved of interventionist foreign policy actions.

The GOP is usually seen as the traditionally pro-business party and it garners major support from a wide variety of industries from the financial sector to small businesses. Republicans are about 50 percent more likely to be self-employed, and are more likely to work in management.

TIME: Three 45-minute class periods

OBJECTIVES:
Students will:
- Learn a brief history of Halloween.
- Examine NeoPopRealist Halloween Mask.

- Learn (or be reminded) about NeoPopRealism ink pen pattern drawing style and concept that Nadia Russ created in 1989: A line creates shape, then this shape is divided into sections. Then, sections filled with different imaginative repetitive patterns, some sections should be left blank. Eraser never used (see Resources) because if a 'mistake' made it visually disappears after new patterns balance the whole composition (see http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/).

- Compare the traditional Halloween Masks and NeoPopRealism Halloween ink pen/ pattern Mask to respond to questions and make comparisons about art styles NeoPopRealism and Realism.

- Create a new monster Mask in the NeoPopRealism ink pen/ pattern drawing manner for a scary movie "NeoPopRealist Halloween: The Dancing Monsters and Ghosts".

- Create and write a name of the monster and a story about how this monster scary people, about favorite things it eats, where it lives, what it likes to do.

- Brainstorm to think of and list all the supernatural creatures, classify them by size and habits.

- Students dance with the NeoPopRealism Halloween Masks they created on their heads, expressing the Monsters' characters. Music can be found online. Teacher tapes a short movie (10 min. or less) "NeoPopRealist Halloween: The Dancing Monsters and Ghosts" of this collective dance and posts this film on Youtube.com.

MATERIALS:

- Two sheets of white paper 8.5"x11"

- Black ink pen 0.7 mm.

- Black marker

- Middle size brown paper bag (regularly it can be found in supermarkets and other stores)

- Scissors

- Small digital camera to tape 8-10 min movie

- Computer or player to play Halloween dance music
- Black t-shirts and black lace or regular pants (boys and girls) for dancing for a video "The Dancing Monsters and Ghosts"

LESSON IMPLEMENTATION

Several days before the lesson begins tell students that they will need to bring in a middle size brown paper bag that will be used for creating the Halloween Mask.

Day 1.
Class Period One:

Tell students a brief history of Halloween (see at the bottom of this page "Lesson plan background and historical information").

Examine the NeoPopRealism Halloween Mask:

NeoPopRealist Halloween Mask, ink & pen pattern drawing

Instruct students about NeoPopRealism ink pen pattern drawing style and its concept, about Nadia Russ (brief biography) who created this style in 1989 (see "Lesson plan background and historical information" below and http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com/).

Examine the traditional drawings of the Halloween Masks (find them online) and the NeoPopRealist Halloween Mask. Have students respond to questions and make comparisons how traditional masks are different from the NeoPopRealist Halloween Mask, emphasizing use of ink pen - lines and patterns - to convey the character and emotion.

Focus on the repetitive patterns used in NeoPopRealist Halloween Mask, ask students to reproduce using ink pen 0.7 mm some of these patterns on separate white sheet of paper: the paralleled lines and strips, zigzags, squares , circles, whirles, dots, their combinations and variations.

Remind students to bring a middle size brown paper bag to the next class.

Day 2.
Class Period Two:

Remind students the NeoPopRealism ink pen/ pattern drawing concept (see Lesson Plan - Background and Historical Information and Resources: a line creates a form, then this form is divided into sections, then these sections are filled with different repetitive patterns).
Have students create a monster's Mask in the NeoPopRealism ink pen/ pattern drawing manner for a scary movie "NeoPopRealist's Halloween: The Dancing Monsters and Ghosts". Have students cut two holes in areas of eyes, one hole for nose to breathe, and one - in area of mouth. Then, have students divide the brown bag into sections and fill these sections with different repetitive patterns using black marker. Some section should be left blank. The students will create the NeoPopRealist Halloween masks using their imagination and different kinds of repetitive patterns they want.

NeoPopRealist Halloween Mask: step-by-step ink & pen pattern drawing

Have them discuss why they included each element-pattern, and what was difficult and easy while creating a NeoPopRealism Halloween Mask. Have them describe their Masks in three words.

Day 3.
Class Period Three:

Have students create and write on white paper a name of the monster they created, a brief story about the experience a monster has in scarring people, favorite thing it eats, where it lives, what he likes to do. List all the supernatural creatures and classify them in different ways.

Have students put their recently created NeoPopRealist Halloween Masks on their heads. Turn on the music. Ask students to dance wearing the NeoPopRealist Halloween Masks, expressing characters of the monsters' Masks they created.

Teacher tapes a short (maximum 10 min) movie called "NeoPopRealist's Halloween: The Dancing Monsters and Ghosts". Teacher posts this film on Youtube.com.

About Halloween:

Halloween is a time of superstition and celebration. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). Then, people would wear costumes and light bonfires to ward off the ghosts. Pope Gregory III (8th century) designated 1st of November as a time to honor all saints and martyrs. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Halloween evolved into a community-based event with child-friendly activities, such as trick-or-treating. Around the world, people usher in the winter season with costumes and sweet treats.

The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the UK and northern France, celebrated their new year on 1st of November. This is the end of summer and the beginning of a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts celebrated Samhain on the night of October 31, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids or Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future.

The American Halloween tradition of trick-or-treating dates back to the All Souls' Day parades in England. Then, poor people would beg for food and the rich would give them the "soul cakes" in return for their promise to pray for their dead relatives. It was encouraged by the church as a way to replace the ancient practice of leaving food and wine for roaming spirits.

The tradition of dressing in costumes for Halloween has Celtic and European roots. Hundreds of years ago, winter was the frightening time. On Halloween, to avoid being recognized by the ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits. To keep ghosts away from their houses on Halloween, people would place bowls of food outside their homes to prevent them from attempting to enter...

To bring the peace to the earth, it is time to unite all the peace-loving people, to stop the use and production of the heavy military equipment and weapons of mass destruction, such as war ships, war planes, artillery, nuclear bombs, etc., in every part of the world, without any exception, once and forever.

It has to be an international law, according to which any person of any country, in any government, responsible for use (or attempt to use) the heavy military equipment in any part of the world to kill people, would be imprisoned for the rest of life without possibility of amnesty, as the mass murderer. All sales of the heavy military equipment worldwide should be stopped, as well as production of new military heavy equipment, as part of this future law.

3. Compare and contrast realistic art and NeoPopRealism/NeoWhimsies.
4. Learn about NeoWhimsies, the simplified NeoPopRealism ink pen / pattern drawing.
5. Create NeoWhimsies Easter Eggs..

Suggestion for better learning: a book "NeoWhimsies: NeoPopRealism Ink Drawing Basics for Mannequins”, ISBN: 978-0615651859.

A week before, ask the student to prepare the wood unpainted eggs (to buy it in store or flee market), if you decide not to use the sheets of paper.

MATERIALS

- Computer with internet access to see a short movie-introduction to NeoPopRealism.
- 8.5”x11” white drawing paper or a made of wood egg
- Ink pen black 0.7 mm Rollerball or similar
- Clear vanish that dries fast (for wood eggs)

PREPARATION

Display Nadia RUSS’ art posters/decals in the classroom. Have a presentation ready to show students Nadia Russ’ NeoPopRealism art - ink/ pattern drawings. (See Resources)

LESSON PROCEDURE

1. Day 1: Introduce Nadia RUSS’ life and NeoPopRealism style of visual arts to students. This introduction can be found in a book "NeoWhimsies: NeoPopRealism Ink Drawing Basics for Mannequins”, ISBN: 978-0615651859, pages 8 and 81 (or in website http://neopoprealismblackwhiteink.blogspot.com)

Introduce briefly history of Easter and its symbols. Compare Nadia Russ’ ink pen /pattern drawing portraits and abstracts and pencil drawings by Rembrandt. Discuss how they are similar and different.

2. Hand out 8.5”x11” papers and have students write their names on the back. Or use wood eggs.

Turn on music (not loud), preferably jazz.

Demonstrate how to draw step-by-step the simplified NeoPopRealism - NeoWhimsy Egg: Draw a contour of an image. Then, divide egg's shape into sections and fill these sections with different patterns.

3. Day 2: Continue teaching the drawing of different patterns. Offers student to create a gallery of repetitive patterns in special chapter of a book. Or as an option, if they do not have a book, offer students to draw different imaginative patterns on piece of paper, divided into sections-squares 1,5 inch each. Each section student fills with different sample of repetitive pattern. Encourage students to use their imagination and create the new, instead of copying those that they see in image above. Drawing patterns is meditative process, it increases learning abilities.

4. Day 3: Demonstrate how drawing of different patterns can change the character and the whole meaning of artwork.Offer students to complete templates - the images of unfinished eggs - with different patterns located in a chapter “Draw the Eggs Here and Now”, pages 23-26.

5. Day 4: Offer students to draw the NeoWhimsies images of eggs from beginning to end on special pages 73-78 of a book "NeoWhimsies: NeoPopRealism Ink Drawing Basics for Mannequins“ (30% off to art teachers and libraries at http://www.neopoprealism.org) in chapter "Create Your NeoWhimsies from the Scratch". Explore 10 NeoPopRealism canons for happier life (page 83). If students were drawing patterns on wood egg, after work finished, ask the vanish the eggs.

Easter or the Pasch or (among Eastern Orthodox) Pascha is a Christian festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary as described in the New Testament.Easter is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of Lent is called Holy Week, and it contains the days of the Easter Triduum, including Maundy Thursday (also known as Holy Thursday), commemorating the Last Supper and its preceding foot washing, as well as Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Easter is followed by a fifty-day period called Eastertide or the Easter Season, ending with Pentecost Sunday. Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. 4. Demonstrate how drawing the different patterns can change whole meaning of artwork and its character. Offer students to complete the images of unfinished exotic butterflies in a chapter “Draw the Butterflies Here and Now”, pages 41-45, filling sections of each butterfly with different patterns, simple and exotic.

5. Day 3: Offer students to draw the NeoWhimsies images from beginning to end on special pages 73-78 of a book "NeoWhimsies: NeoPopRealism Ink Drawing Basics for Mannequins“ in chapter "Create Your NeoWhimsies from the Scratch". Explore 10 NeoPopRealism canons for happier life (page 83).

As an option (if students do not have this book), teacher can offer to students 2 sheets of white paper divided into squares 1,5 inch to fill each square with different repetitive pattern.

4. Demonstrate how drawing of different repetitive patterns can change the whole meaning of artwork and its character. Offer students to complete artworks - the images of umbrellas in chapter “Draw the Umbrellas Here and Now”, Pages 27-30, filling sections with different patterns using imagination.

5. Day 3: Offer students to create the NeoWhimsty umbrella from beginning to end on pages of special chapter for drawing [77-82 pages] of a book "NeoWhimsies for Beginners: 10 NeoPopRealism Ink Drawing Projects". Present students 10 NeoPopRealism canons for happier life (page 81) and let they explain each canon, how they understand them. Learn about illustrator of a book.

6. Repeat with students the NeoPopRealism ink drawing concept: a line creates shapes and sections; then, these sections filled with different repetitive patterns, some left blank. Eraser never used. Compare all umbrellas, discuss differences.

2. Compare realistic art and NeoPopRealism/ NeoWhimsies

3. Create the NeoPopRealism-NeoWhimsies eggs

MATERIALS

- Computer with internet access to see a movie (WATCH MOVIE HERE)
- 8.5"x11" white drawing paper
- Ink pen black

PREPARATION

Display some Nadia RUSS' art posters in the classroom. Have a presentation ready to show students Nadia RUSS' NeoPopRealism art. Posters can be ordered online via these links: POSTER 1, POSTER 2.

LESSON PROCEDURE

1. Day 1: Watch online short JR. MOVIE introduction to NeoPopRealism. Introduce NeoPopRealism art and Nadia RUSS' life to students (see Introduction in a book "First Steps: NeoWhimsie: NeoPopRealism ink Drawing for Beginners", ISBN: 978-0615641553 on page 8.

Compare Nadia RUSS' ink/ pen drawing portraits and abstract and pencil drawing by Leonardo Da Vinci. Discuss how they are different and similar.

2. Hand out 8,5"x11" papers and have students write their names on the back.

Turn on quiet music, preferable jazz. Demonstrate how to draw the NeoWhimsy - an image of egg. Draw the contour of an egg. Then, divide it into the pieces/sections. Next step: fill these sections with different repetitive patterns.

3. Day 2: Focus on the drawing of repetitive patterns, using ink pen. Give students paper divided into squares 1.5 inch. Offer students to create the repetitive patterns gallery and fill with different patterns these section. The drawing repetitive patterns is meditative process: teach students to create and meditate.

4. Day 3. Demonstrate how different repetitive patterns can change the meaning and look of artwork - of an egg. Offer students to draw another egg and fill sections of egg with different repetitive patterns. Then, compare the completed artworks. Remind students the NeoPopRealism ink drawing concept: line creates shapes and sections; then, these sections filled with different repetitive patterns, some left blank. Eraser never used.

LESSON PROCEDURE

1. Day 1: Introduce Nadia RUSS’ life and NeoPopRealism art to students Compare Nadia Russ’ ink/pattern drawing portraits and pencil drawings by Leonardo Da Vinci. Discuss how they are similar and different.

2. Hand out 8.5”x11” papers and have students write their names on the back.
Turn on music (not loud), preferably jazz. Demonstrate step-by-step how to draw the NeoPopRealism/NeoWhimsy image Butterfly 1: draw the contours of wings. Then in the sections that appeared draw repetitive patterns.

NeoPopRealism/ NeoWhimsy: Imaginative butterfly drawing

3. Day 2: Continue teaching the drawing of different repetitive patterns, using ink pen. Offer students paper divided into squares-sections 1.5 inch each and offer fill each section with different repetitive pattern.

4. Day 3: Demonstrate how drawing the different repetitive patterns can change the same image character, its meaning, and look. Offer students to draw another butterfly.

5. Day 4: Complete images of butterfly filling sections with different repetitive patterns. Make sure students learned the concept of NeoPopRealism-NeoWhimsies' ink drawing without eraser. Compare student's work. These images can be laminated and turned into a book.
