I attended a seminar at Copley Hotel in Boston, where Adam Ginsberg sold one of his latest product released Feb 2010.

The product called Speedlings was indeed most impressive. It practically takes out all the hardwork of keyword/niche search, website building and passive monetization of adding adsense, amazon, ebay, shopping etc. The site comes alive after a record 3 minutes but based on a conservative and cautious estimate it will start earning regular passive income only after an estimate of about 60 to 90 days. I was also surprised why a site produced after 3 minutes should take that long.

Besides abiding to traffic policies of the ‘gaint’ Google, I think it more of a under promise and over delivery marketing strategy. For a successful person, I was indeed glad to find that Adam Ginsberg was a down to earth person, although somewhat impersonal typical of entrpreneurs who are cautious and wearywe may be trying to squeeze out some bargains from him.

Haiti

I did however get an opportunity to ask him to help Haiti – where despite $1 billion from Americans, the country still remains a tragedy. I have since vouched that I will never donate to large corporations like Red Cross and UNICEF. With no implied attribution them, I have seen large organizations tend to have layers and layers of senior expensive staff but are simply not as fast to respond then smaller flexible organizations - I know this firsthand as I was on the ground since Day 4 of earthquake. I wonder how much of the estimated $300M collected by Red cross has in fact been disbursed to Haitians up to today.

Anyway, in my humble opinion Adam has literally designed the science of making passive income online and even providing for the potential flipping of successful sites and fetching higher prices.

While there is some basic customization of backgrounds, he claims that no one gives away source codes of copyrighted products and therefore there cannot be any major customization of the websites designed. This to me a marketing drawback for those who want the design for passive income but also want the sites for different purposes like membership sites, small businesses, advertising and other core interactive services etc.

On the balance, I ultimately purchased the product as it met my immediate requirements of a basic foundation of a passive flow of income and I also can trust that Adam will deliver. He is so confident that he offered (at this forum only) a double money back guarantee after a year if things don’t work out.

I however felt that it was a waste that such a well designed product should cater to such a narrow market. With some tweaking the product could easily be sold to small business and customer service/maintenance reap continuous incomes for many more year and for many more organizations. It has the potential of being the ‘microsoft’ of optimized website building.

Will keep you posted on the performance once I get to play with this toy. Cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Humans and the Internet

Humans and the Internet are powerful forces that will continue to change the dynamics of this world. They have over a short period of time help normalize the extreme disparities between developed and developing countries, rich and poor, high class and low class and the list can go on.

The human mind is a complex organ that has an innate ability of connecting, integrating, combining, manipulating, distorting, defying concepts and throwing up completely awesome, novel and refreshing ideas or thoughts. It has a highly wired and interconnected structure that facilitates simultaneous deep analysis and strategic overview.

The human heart (not the physical heart but the soul of innate entity that make up a particular human being what she or he is) is a much more powerful but complex concept to grasp. It is a continuous amalgamation and distillation of information, knowledge, interactions, stimulus, beliefs, emotions, genetic expressions and innate spirit of the human species. What makes a mother sacrifice her life for her children, people to die for their country at Gettysburg or Warren Buffet to donate 32 Billion to charity? To better understand this complex subject of human nature one has to take a course in philosophy and delve especially in the works of Immanuel Kant.

That is not my intention. What is needed to succeed in life is to focus the human mind and open up the human heart to the maximum. What do I mean by this?

The human mind as powerful as it may be can get easily distracted or get into analysis paralysis. It also can be easily influenced by vices that provide short term gains or feel good self-centered benefits that often have limited long term positive effects. It inquisitiveness allows it to be easily distracted. Nothing significant gets achieved if any activity is not initially planned out or followed through with determination. The heart must feel and focus the mind. There are many techniques like yoga to focus the mind but that will be covered some other time.

Human nature on the other hand has certain unique characteristics which are important to note. Here I will simple share those characteristics relevant to making money online and without reference to any primary research as the latter is not the purpose of this book.

Human by nature are hardwired to be survivors. They are generally insecure and fear being left behind. Their inquisitive mind seeks newer and better techniques and skills to keep ahead. They generally like to provide the best for their children. They always seek love and recognition. They will always be tempted to seek shortcuts to riches. They enjoy adventure, mystery, make belief, gossip or anything extraordinary. They cannot keep secrets and simply love getting gifts or free stuff. They like to simplify their lives. They are impulsive buyers and find it difficult to walk away from perceived good deals.

They simple hate losing out, being cheated or lied to, treated unfairly, ignored, insulted in front of others, told what to do and what not to do.

The internet has certain unique characteristics which makes it an ideal companion of humans. It is open as well as very private. It is easily accessible and knowledge is in abundance. There is something for everyone. It allows open forums where people simply love to share their experiences or ideas and it is also private where you get to choose who you want to interact with. By far the biggest advantages of the internet are its reach and scalability. With a single website you can instantaneous be visible to more than one billion people. With a single email you can reach the furthest reaches of this earth. The next biggest advantage is you do not need huge overheads to setup a store front or get stuck with inventory holdings. You do not even need a product of your own to start a business.

The greatest challenge of the internet is due to its sheer size. With more than one billion people it is very difficult to stand out. Search engines have their own profit and technical challenges to be totally unbiased and fair. Pay-per-click services skew search engine results in favor of those with big bucks. Security is the second biggest challenge that prevents people from carrying out transactions over the internet. There are limited laws to safeguard against international fraud cases. The technical nature of internet technologies is the third biggest challenge. Not everybody can quickly understand domain names, HTML, PHP, SQL, XML, web hosting and how it all comes together.

People often tell you about the niche. What they basically mean is that find an area of specific focus. It cannot be a broad and complicated area. You must be very clear about your product or service. You need to be the authority in that area.

Simplicity

Take a look at google, facebook and twitter. What do they have in common. You think they cannot afford to facelift their websites? Their simplicity is strategic. You also need a front that is simply even for the youngest to the oldest. What you cannot understand or interact with you cannot proceed.

Interactivity

The aim has to be to keep people coming. If you are providing information, you must give people reasons as to why they should join your mailing list. There are many ways you can engage them. They could join your forum, there could be newsletters to subscribe to. You could provide them membership sign on to advertisement, meeting people, send out short messages etc. Always leave a comments page on every page. Always remember that there must be some thing for them to come back to your website.

Scalability

Start on the premise that the world is your ocean. If you think big you will go far. Why would South American, African, Asians, Indians, Chinese etc come to your site. Are you only talking to Americans? You have find ways to cross the language and cultural barriers.

Automation

Human beings have a unique and characteristic sense of imagination. It is this keen sense of imagination that helps conjecture the numerous possibilities and outcomes of any given situation. So powerful is this sense of imagination that it works wonders on our behavior.

Have you ever experience the situation where you are told half the story and cannot wait to find out about the rest. This is the main reason why most drama serials end on a suspense note. In this way, they can almost guarantee that you will return next day to watch the next episode.

The human curiosity is so strong that you can almost be sure that they will come back for more. The trick is not to bare all your facts or services all at once. That will take away the fun and suspense. The aim is to feed them with sufficient information to excite them but not enough to satisfy them fully. There is fine balance and the challenge is to find out what they are looking for and not what you want to give.

So for any product you offer make sure that you deliberately leave about a third of the information out in your initial sales message. For example if you are giving a free eBook, do not provide the full content that matches the title of the book. Leave enough room in their imagination that they will potentially be getting an extraordinary gift. Create some suspense and mystery behind what they are about to receive by signing up. Better still, include an additional giveaway that is not elaborated on.

This techniques has worked in tie-in sales, TV drama serials and almost anywhere else that is has been applied to.

So start killing the curious cat with your latest sales pitch and make sure that there is an element of suspense, mystery, time limit and thrill. The time limit of the offer is important as it puts the pressure on the individual to make a decision soon. Always also remember to under promise but over deliver. Try a few techniques and see what works for you. You could also use reverse psychology by saying to the effect that the free gift is only for those who are beginners and not for experts. However make sure that the material is worthy of experts as well. You can be assured that some people will not only sign up but also comeback for more good stuff.

Step 1 to Making Money Online

Jot down what you want to achieve at the end of your six month effort. Example ;earn your first $1000 0r $10,000 on the internet’. I want to be known for…… I want to help people …….

Jot down at least 5 things that you are interested in. Example I am interested in rare coins, rap music, football strategy. Try to be as specific as possible.

Jot down at least 5 skills that you think you possess. Example web design, writing, making management presentations, diplomacy, writing music, playing guitar etc. Be as specific as possible. Even if you don’t have any skill, it is perfectly alright at this stage. You will soon discover your talent.

Jot down what spontaneously excite you the most in the past but which you are clearly not interested in.

At this stage be liberal with your list and don’t be too worried that there are too many areas or diverse areas. It need not make sense at this stage. Often we are interested in things that we know little about but feel that it will be good for us. When we get into the details we are likely to change our mind or it could be an area that not many people may not be interested in or willing to pay for it.

Those areas are not useless and nothing should be discarded outright at this stage. You just need to prioritize according to you end goal. The area that is not paying today, may boom tommorow. So if you have a lot of time you can even start in all areas.

Now take the most important step. Copy your list and place it everywhere you spend your time. Place a typed version on your desktop wall paper.

Reflect and keep changing the list for a few weeks. Sleep on the ideas. Conceptualize the end state. Jot down some elaboration of each idea. Continue to get more and more specific.

Don’t eliminate anything.

Now create a word document with a table. In the first column type in the areas above that interest and excite you . Now do a yahoo, google or bing search in each area. Review the top 5 hits in your view and cut and past the html link to those sites in column 2 and a short description in column 3.

Don’t get disheartened that you idea or area of interest has already been done by someone else. Chances are it has been. The trick is to create your own unique twist ti it and this will be done later. Instead you should be happy that there is something already available to adapt from and it will in fact save you a lot of time.

You now have a list that captures your end objective in areas that you are roughly interested or excited in. You also have a more realistic idea of the specific areas you are interested in rather then a perceived passion. After reviewing the web content you should feel free to adjust your priorities and number then accordingly. Also you may put into a remark column your hunch on how you could narrow down the area more specifically

Pat yourself on the back. You have completed the most difficult Step 1. Many quit way before they reach this stage.

The stage is set to take some action.

Pick the top priority area you drafted in Step 1. Don’t think too much or procrastinate at this step or you will never do anything. ;

Quickly make an outline of your idea. The essential ingredients are as follows:

Title – Very important to give a unique and catchy title. It will ultimately become your website name. Dont worry about whether it ranks highly on keyword search although it is very important to be successful in terms of traffic. At this stage it should focus on being catchy, linkable to the product and service and unique. It can be changed later and therefore don’t take more then 30 minutes.

Introduction – Leave this empty – you will be able to fill this up when you complete the conclusion

Body – List at least 5 enabling aspects of your product or service that will make it complete. If it is a Ebook or training prograsm, then this should be the Chapters and topics. If it is a product then this list should be the main features to be included in the sales page that explains this product is so special or niche. If it an overall theme then you list the different brands/products that constitutes the niche. For example web traffic includes SEO, social media, marketing, backlinks, ppc, ppv, youtube etc.

Marketing plan – Once you have a fairly clear idea about the product or service, you can now determine the pricing and how you will market the product. You have to narrow down to the specific market, join relevant newsgroups and subscribe to newsletters to let the data on the product flow to you.

You need to research on keyword and adwords to determine how much people are willing to pay. You will need to further refine the product and identify a unique selling point to make the money in the short run.

If you have more time to build the product then your focus should be its uniqueness and creation of your own brand. You have to clearly identify how you are going to monetize you website. Is it adsense, affiliate payouts, direct sale, amazon, ebay auction or a shopping cart

Conclusion – Should summarize your product or service, highlight its unique selling proposition and how it matters to the buyer. What benefits are they going to specifically get.

Don’t worry if the idea is not complete. Take it from me that it will never be.

Finally take the most important step. If you have already subscribe to a hosting service, then spend your first additional $10 to get the right domain name base on a good keyword/adword analysis. If not, then go to blogger or wordpress.org and create you own free blog. Quickly create your categories and/or posts/pages according to your intro, lists and conclusion. It is alright to leave the page empty at this stage. You are going to fill this up and change it overtime.

Most importantly you have an outline and the pages in place. This step alone will guarantee that you will complete this project. Your website or blog will evolve and improve from here on.
