"Helping Children Never Ends"

This is my heart that I have donated to the auction this year for 2012. I was inspired by a photograph that my son had taken in Honduras. These are two young children of the family he stayed with in Honduras. He was part of a program that helped the families learn English and help the community in the area to rebuild and teach conservation. This will be up for auction if you are interested in purchasing the heart on Feburary 8, 2012 at the Camino Real.

As a change of pace to the hustle bustle of exhibit openings and shows, where artists have to bring their art work to their admirers, the 2011 Artists’ Studio Tour sets up a scavenger hunt of artists’ studios for art lovers to visit.
For many artists, their homes are their studios so for them experience is much more personal than a 10x10 foot booth at a show. “We just enjoy it. We love our house, we love to show the place off. We always get interesting people… It’s not just ‘hello, here’s my artwork’ and ‘goodbye’,” said Candy Mayer, an El Paso artist whose Upper Valley home is a stop on the Tour.
Corinne Abeyta-Spinnler, another El Paso artist and teacher also relishes the chance to share her workspace with her fans. “This gives people from El Paso a chance to see how artists live and work,” she said, indicating her warm sunny studio tucked away in her home.

Both women described how the tour began when fellow Plein Air painter, Randy Limbird wanted to help artists get exposure in El Paso. With so many exhibits and shows, Limbird and other artists thought inviting visitors to see how the magic of their favorite pieces is made by their favorite local artists. Lisa Matta, a Plein Air artist and guest artist at Mayer’s studio, says Plein Air art, which means “open” air art, as well as the Studio Tour lets artists get into their work and interact with art enthusiasts, artists and friends. “It lets you push the limits, think outside the box.”
It is also a chance for blossoming artists to see how more seasoned artists breathe life into their paintings. “I think God gave everyone a little gift,” said Melinda Etzold, who insists that anyone can be an artist with the right teacher, hard work and motivation. “I do a lot of shows but they are a lot of work. It’s interesting to go see a different studio and see what other artists are using.” She added.

Already in its fourth consecutive year, the El Paso Artists’ Studio Tour was a bit slow this year, according to Mayer, Spinnler, and Etzold. “It’s not so much that you want to sell, you just want people to see your studio,” said Spinnler. But it is certain that for those who did attend, it was an interesting and fun testament to El Paso’s glorious scenery and the artists who paint it.

Celebre La Buena Vida

This fundraiser benefits the Buena Vida Adult Day Center which serves El Paso's low income elderly & disabled residents. The clients spend their days at the center involved in many activities, allowing their families to work or go to school. I decided to use to seperate images for the painting.The background as your looking through the arch is the Franklin mountains I just love these mountains and added some poppies and some Ocotillo Cactii. I took artistic license with this image.

I knew instantly what I wanted to paint the front building of the Hal Marcus Gallery. DRAWING the ESSENCE OF ART

This is a group art

exhibit and what a

challange this was. My artwork is right above my head. I decided to draw the female figure. It is a study of reclining women done is charcoal and pen.

I forgot how wonderful it is to study, draw and use my charcoal conde crayons from the time I was in college taking life drawing courses.
The exhibit is still up at the Hal Marcus Gallery until November 5, 2010.

Ardovino's Desert Crossing

This piece is something I normally don't do but I wanted to push myself and try some bold colors. I used acrylic paints and struggling at first but was happy with the end result. This is my intrepretation of the Rio Grand river and incorporated the Franklin Mountains in the background. This will be in the exhibit so stop by and enjoy the opening reception.. There will be other artists along with myself to to meet and greet art lovers.

THE MISSION TRAIL

It was that time of the year to once again paint our chiles for a wonderful cause. I decided to paint the missions of El Paso - the Elizario Mission, The Ysleta Mission, and The Socorro Mission. These beautiful mission are never tiresome to paint and each time I feel more and more connected and learn so much history about each one. Looking forward to next year's event. Also painted a little chilito and painted my desert series on the smaller chile.
