As I mentioned over on disassociated.com recently I am helping a friend out with a new venture, but the commitment is requiring more time than I originally anticipated. Having scaled back other of my writing/blogging activities I believed I would be able to maintain the list but sadly this is not proving to be the case.

Matt Trent, former Principal Artist of the Australian Ballet, and the Royal Ballet, turned photographer.

Stepping Stones captures Trent’s love and passion for the beauty of the visual form in three of his favourite subjects, theatre, Yamba NSW, and his adopted home, New York City.

East London artist Chrissie Abbott.

What’s it all about then?

“Casual Cosmology” is a translation of pattern work and found imagery into Abbott’s own predictions of the future we’re headed towards, which is essentially a big dayglow hug.

The show opens at China Heights Gallery, Level 3, 16-28 Foster Street, Surry Hills, Sydney, on Friday, 27 January, 2012 at 6pm, and runs until Sunday, 29 January.

What’s it all about then?

On Film utilises and showcases the unique properties of analogue film photography to express personal perspectives of the exhibiting photographers.

Each individual journey demonstrates a different aesthetic and subject matter, combining to illustrate a broad spectrum of analogue photographic processes from traditional hand made Bromoil prints to modern slide film photography.

Where is it and when is it on?

The show opens at Salerno Gallery, 70 Glebe Point Road, Glebe, Sydney, on Tuesday, 24 January, 2012 at 6pm, and continues until Saturday, 11 February.

Serana Hunt, a photographer from Shepparton, Victoria.

What’s it all about then?

Around Winston Street is a series of photos taken around the block from where Hunt lives in Shepparton. It offers an insight into life in regional Australia, and documents characters from her immediate community.

Where is it and when is it on?

The show opens at the No Vacancy Project Space, Tenancy 32, The Atrium, Federation Square, Melbourne, on Monday, 23 January, 2012 and continues until Sunday, 5 February, with opening night drinks taking place on Friday, 27 January, at 6pm.

What’s it all about then?

Hindu Tattoo, a collection of photography and installations, is the result of an epic four month journey through incredible India. A visual documentation of its rough and often D I Y approach to tattooing.

Hindu Tattoo displays images of pilgrims tattoos and their tattooers at work. Taken alongside the sacred Ganges river, and through the hectic streets and bazaars of India. Indian street tattooing is raw.

It has an old school element and feel, where the divine meaning and devotional aspect of the tattoo are more important than the aesthetics of the design itself.

Where is it and when is it on?

The show is on at Lo-Fi Collective, Floor 3, 383 Bourke Street, Surry Hills, Sydney (above Kinselas bar), on Thursday, 19 January, 2012 at 6pm for one night only.
