Types of Papers and their Uses

Matte

This
type of paper is dull and lusterless. It is often used in industry to
produce good quality prints without a glossy, vibrant color finish.
Without the glossy finish, fingerprints and sun glare aren’t a problem.
There are many different types of matte paper, such as semi-matte or
luster paper that look very different from traditional matte.
However,
matte paper soaks up more ink which affects the sharpness of the image.
Small details will be lost with matte paper, so macro shots and
portraits should be printed on glossy paper for better quality and
results.

Glossy

Photographers use glossy paper most
commonly for photos. It produces a vibrant, sharp image that is smooth
to touch. On average, glossy paper is cheaper than matte paper. There
are several variations: semi-gloss, premium grade, and brand specific.
Glossy
paper is easily marked up with fingerprints and dust, which makes it
more fragile than matte paper. Photos printed on glossy paper can framed
easily to preserve the image. This type of paper is also more
reflective and shiny, making it more susceptible to sunglare.

Gloss Laminated

The
best examples of gloss laminated paper are postcards. The photos are
printed along with a gloss laminate coat, which makes it shinier and
more durable than regular glossy paper. The laminating process makes
colors more vibrant and dynamic.

UV Gloss

The process of
exposing photos with UV radiation creates an extremely shiny and glossy
print. You can also use UV gloss of specific areas to make them stand
out from the rest of the design – this is also known as spot UV. Common
uses for this process is for business cards to make logos stand out.

Metallic

This
type of photo paper contains a metallic resin coated base, which
provides a unique twist to your printed images. The result can be
striking 3D images resistant to tearing, curling, and ultra-bright
colors. The gloss simulates a metallic look, which can enhance your
images.
Other types of paper you can use for graphics: sticker
paper, pulp, silk coating, iron-on transfers, true black&white
paper, and more.
Always be sure to know what you want from your
prints.

Hi, I am not a Professional Artist, Drawing is just my Hobby but there
is something in me which attracts me more on to it. I started drawing from the
age of 7 by tracing the images but one thing for sure

                                                " PRACTICE Makes you PERFECT".

The lessons I am posting here are my own method of learning, its not professional as I am a self taught artist. I would like to thank my dear friends who have suggested me to post drawing lessons for children, so here is my first drawing class for you :)

So lets move on to Lesson-1

Lesson-1: How to Draw (Basics)

Before going directly with pencil and paper, let us see what we need other than pencil & paper to start drawing.
* Subject
* Observation
* Imagination
* Reproduce

SUBJECT : We all know that there should be a subject on which we could draw, for example (car, bike, fruit, ball, candle, human, animal, bird, fish etc...).

OBSERVATION : Friends I tell you, this is one of the most important think you need. If you have to draw in a different style. The way we see our surroundings has to be improved.
.
IMAGINATION: This is what you need ..

some of the things has to be imagined. we have to see them using our mind. for example (if there is a cylinder and if you are viewing it straight then it looks like a vertical rectangular box. if you see it from top it looks like a circle. so you have to get a 3 dimensional view in your mind). There are many things which we have to see them in a 3 dimensional array to reproduce them in paper.

REPRODUCE : This is just drawing the subject together with your observation and imagination on to a paper.

The Art of Living was founded in 1981 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. His
work spans many roles - as a humanitarian ambassador, meditation
instructor, spiritual teacher and a peace advocate. Sri Sri is committed
to his vision of stress-free minds and a violence-free society and so
works continuously on building peace among nations and individuals.

The Beginning

Born in 1956 in Tamil Nadu, Southern India, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was a
gifted child. By the age of four, he was able to recite parts of the
Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Sanskrit text and was often found in meditation. He
studied Vedic literature with his first teacher, Sudhakar Chaturvedi,
who had had a long cooperation with Mahatma Gandhi and simultaneously
went to school at MES in Bangalore. By the age of seventeen, in 1973, he
had graduated with degrees in both Physics and Vedic Literature.

Founding The Art of Living and the IAHV

In 1997, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar co-founded the International
Association for Human Values (IAHV) to run sustainable development
projects, nurture human values and to coordinate conflict resolution in
association with The Art of Living Foundation. The Association partners
with governments, educational institutions, other NGOs, corporations,
businesses and individuals. It also works in special consultative status
with the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOC)
of the United Nations, participating in a variety of committees and
activities, related to health and conflict resolution. It has so far
reached over 20 million people in over 150 countries from all walks of
life.

Current Activities

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar continues to lead the Art of Living Foundation
and the IAHV and tours the globe working in many different capacities,
every single day of the year. The self-development programmes he
developed are now delivered by tens of thousands of specially trained
Art of Living teachers in 151 countries, although whenever he can, Sri
Sri Ravi Shankar often attends large courses to give talks and gives his
time to participants.

Inspiring Service

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has initiated many programmes to provide
assistance to people from a wide range of backgrounds – victims of
natural disasters, survivors of terror attacks and war, children from
marginalised populations and communities in conflict, amongst others.
The strength of his philosophy has inspired a huge body of volunteers to
get involved and drive these service projects forward, or initiate
their own, around the globe. The majority of these volunteers are
graduates of the Art of Living’s self-development programmes themselves.

A Figure of Peace

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has been globally recognised as an ambassador of
peace, receiving numerous awards for his work. He plays a key role in
conflict resolution and spreads his vision of non-violence at public
forums and gatherings worldwide. Regarded as a neutral figure with a
sole agenda of peace, he represents hope to people in conflict. He has
received particular credit for bringing opposing parties to the
negotiating table in Iraq, the Ivory Coast, Kashmir and Bihar. Fostering
interfaith harmony and calling for multi-cultural education as the
remedy for fanaticism are significant parts of his efforts to achieve
sustainable peace.

The Shore Temple of Mahabalipuram, a small port-village of
TamilNadu, is an excel of architecture, built in the Pallava dynasty. The Shore Temple
itself as well as the rock-cut sculptures creates a unique blend of history and
natural beauty. The shore temples are the example of zenith of Dravidian art
and architecture. It is a complex of elegant shrines.

The temple is perched on a rocky outcrop, which presides over the shoreline of
Bay-of-Bengal. The temple was designed in such a manner that it catches the
first ray of sunlight at dawn and illuminates the waters with its numerous
lights after the dark. The shore temple standing at the picturesque background
of azure sky and the vast blue sea is described perfectly by Percy Brown as `a
landmark by day and a beacon by night.`

The Shore Temple of Mahabalipuram was built during the reign of Rajasimha of
Pallava dynasty in seventh and eighth century. This was the first structure in
pallava dynasty to be built of stone unlike the older temples, which were hewn out
of rocks. The shore temple is a five-storied rock cut structural Hindu Temple
and is not a monolithical monument as are present in other parts of
Mahabalipuram. It is one of the most important among the earliest structural
temples of south India.
The shore temple has a 60 feet high pyramidal structure and sits on a 50 ft
square platform. There is a small temple in front of the main temple, which
originally served as the porch. The temple is made out of a finely cut local
granite.

The greatest improvement in design of shore temple is its `Sikhara` or spine,
which depicts a soaring, tiered style, gradually tapering to the top, which is
completely different from rounded `Vihara` style. All the elements of Dravidian
architecture like the `Vimana` or spire, the `Gopuram` or the gateway and
animals` figures can be seen in the Shore Temple. The temple used the dressed
stone in its structure that gives the architects a greater creative freedom.

The main shrine of the temple faces the sea in the east. The sanctum of the Shore Temple
lies in front of forecourt and the assembly hall. The temple shrine has relics
of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The main sanctum and one of the two smaller
sanctums on the west are dedicated to Shiva. The enclosing wall has a series of
Nandi (bull of shiva) carved on it. There was interconnected water channels
around the temple that allows the sea to let in and transform the temple into a
water-shrine. Recently a stonewall is added to protect the shrine from the
erosions by the sea.

The shore temple in Mamallapuram is refreshingly uncluttered unlike those
grandiose structures of later Dravidian period. The temple encloses two shrines
dedicated to Lord Shiva facing east and west respectively. In between these two
shrines there lies a third shrine that honors Lord Vishnu. The Vishnu here
comes as the preserver of universe, reclining on the serpent `Sesha`, that is a
Hindu symbol of consciousness. The art in the sculptured panels of the temple
is full of vitality depicting robust earthly beauty. The sculptures are
breathtakingly real and artistic.

The Shore Temple of Mahabalipuram is not a living temple. It is opined that the
temple was constructed as a work of art rather than a place for worship.
Nowadays the temple is eroded in most places by the saline seawater and breeze.
It is enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sri Krishna Deva Raya (1509-1529 CE) was the most famous king of Vijayanagar Empire.
Presiding over the empire at its zenith, he is regarded as a
hero by Kannadigas and Telugu people, and one of the great kings of
India. Emperor Krishna Deva Raya also earned the titles Kannada Rajya
Rama Ramana
Mooru Rayara Ganda (meaning King of three kings) and Andhra Bhoja. Much
of the information about his reign comes from the accounts of
Portuguese travelers Domingo Paes and Fernao Nuniz. Krishna Deva Raya
was assisted in administration by the very able prime minister
Timmarusu, who
was revered by the king as a father figure and was responsible for his
corronation. Krishna Deva Raya was the son of Nagala Devi and Tuluva
Narasa
Nayakaan army commander under Saluva Narasimha Deva Raya, who later took
control of the reign of the empire to prevent it from disintegration.
The
king's coronation took place on the birthday of Lord Krishna and his
earliest inscription is from July 26, 1509 CE. He built a beautiful
suburb near
Vijayanagara called Nagalapura in memory of his mother.

The Apogee Of The Empire

Krishnadeva Raya’s rule was characterised by
expansion and consolidation. This was the time when the land between
the Tungabhadra and Krishna rivers (the Raichur doab) was acquired
(1512), the rulers of Orissa were subdued (1514) and severe defeats were
inflicted
on the Sultan of Bijapur (1520). Although the kingdom remained in a
constant state of military preparedness, it flourished under conditions
of
unparalleled peace and prosperity. Krishnadeva Raya is credited with
building some fine temples and adding impressive gopurams to many
important south
Indian temples. He also founded a suburban township near Vijayanagara
called Nagalapuram after his mother. Some of the most detailed
descriptions of
Vijayanagara come from his time or just after.

The Ruler For The People

Sri Krishna Devaraya Constructed many temples, tanks and encouaged trade with foreign countries. In
his reign it was believed that there was no dearth for food, fruits, water.

Travelogues indicate that king was not only an able administrator, but
also an excellent army general, leading from the front in battle and
even
attending to the wounded.

AmuktaMalyada

He is not just a King of Wars and Welfare. He had lot of interest
in literature and patronized Telugu, Tamil, Kannada literatures.Krishna
Deva Raya’s ("Desa bhashalandu telugu Lessa") reign was the golden age
of Telugu literature. Eight poets known as Astadiggajalu (eight
elephants in the eight cardinal points such as North, South etc.) were
part of his court (known as Bhuvana-vijayamu).
Sri Krishna Deva Raya being himself well conversant with
literature, wrote the book Amuktamalyada in Telugu, beautifully
describing
the pangs of separation suffered by Sri Andal (one of the twelve
bhakti-era alwars) for her lover Lord Vishnu
One of the main characters is Periyalvar, the father of Andal. Lord
Vishnu commands Periyalwar to teach a king of the Pandya dynasty the
path of
knowledge to moksha. Amuktamalyada is also known by the name
Vishnu-chitteeyam, a reference to Vishnu-chittudu, the Telugu name of
Vishnuchittar aka
Periyalwar. Several other short stories are included in Amuktamalyada in
the course of the main story of Godadevi, the Sanskrit name of Kothai
Naachiyaar aka Andal, which is used throughout the tome. Krishna Raya
was also well-versed in Sanskrit, Tamil and Kannada. Jambavati Kalyanamu
is his
Sanskrit work. He strove for the welfare and the uplifting of Telugu
people.

Importance of Trade

Sri Krishnadevaraya used to place lot of importance to trade. As warfare during these times depended upon
  effective cavalry, the import of
horses from Arabia
and Central Asia was very important for rival
kingdoms. This trade was initially controlled by Arab
  traders. Local
communities of merchants known as
kudirai chettis or horse merchants also participated
in these exchanges. From 1498 other actors appeared
  on
the scene. These were the Portuguese, who arrived
on the west coast of the subcontinent and attempted
to establish trading and military stations.
Their
superior military technology, especially the use of
muskets, enabled them to become important players
in the tangled politics of the
period.
In fact, Vijayanagara was also noted for its
markets dealing in spices, textiles and precious
stones. Trade was often regarded as a status
symbol
for such cities, which boasted of a wealthy population
that demanded high-value exotic goods, especially
  precious stones and jewellery.
The revenue derived from trade in turn contributed significantly to the
  prosperity of the state.
The following extract from Amuktamalyada will clarify how much
important trade is in the view of Sri Krishnadevaraya -"A king should
improve
the
    harbours of his country
    and so encourage its
    commerce that horses,
    elephants, precious gems,
    sandalwood, pearls and
    other
articles are freely
    imported … He should
    arrange that the foreign
    sailors who land in
    his country on account
    of storms,
illness and
    exhaustion are looked after
    in a suitable manner …
    Make the merchants of
    distant foreign countries
    who import
elephants and
    good horses be attached
    to yourself by providing
    them with daily audience,
    presents and allowing
    decent profits.
Then those
    articles will never go to
    your enemies."
This is how he could import lots of persian , portugese horses which
formed a solid deterrent in Kingdoms' defense. Many travelers wrote in
length about the abundance of fruits, meat , pearls , rubies etc. in
Markets of Vijayanagara. A small excerpt from Paes travelogue which
tells about
the prosperity of the City
-
" Going forward, you have a broad and beautiful street
… In this street live many merchants, and there you
will find all sorts of
rubies, and diamonds, and emeralds,
and pearls, and seed-pearls, and cloths, and every other
sort of thing there is on earth and that you may wish
to
buy. Then you have there every evening a fair where
they sell many common horses and nags, and also many
citrons, and limes, and oranges, and
grapes, and every
other kind of garden stuff, and wood; you have all in
this street."
is an honorific title that is used to refer to an ancient legendary
carpenter (ആശാരി Asari), architect, woodcarver and sculptor (stone/wood)
from Kerala, India. However Perumthachan is an important figure in the folklore of Kerala and many a wondrous structure and architecture that still stand are attributed to him.
He mastered the art and science of carpentry, architecture, and sculptor
to become a Perumthachan. He read the sacred texts and imbibed the
ancient intellectual tradition. He was commissioned for many a great
architectural project to build Temples and Palaces. In course of time he came to be regarded as the reincarnation of the chief architect of the gods.
The story of Perumthachan has been a source of artistic expression
for various people. It has been the basis for a great malayalam dramatic monologue poem of the same name by G.Shankara Kurup The legend of Perumthachan was also depicted in a Malayalam Film "Perumthachan" masterfully performed by the famous actor Thilakan. Navratri is a festival dedicated to the worship of a
Hindu deity Shakti. The word Navaratri literally means nine nights in
Sanskrit, nava meaning nine and ratri meaning nights. During
these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Shakti/Devi are worshiped. The
10th day is commonly referred to as Vijayadashami or "Dussehra”

during Durga Pooja, Navarathri Festival.

Navarathri is celebrated five times a year. They are Vasanta
Navaratri, Ashadha Navaratri, the Sharada Navaratri, and the Paush/Magha
Navaratri. Of these, the Sharada Navaratri of the month of Puratashi and the
Vasanta Navaratri of the Vasanta kala are very important.

1. Vasanta Navaratri: Basanta Navaratri, also known as Vasant
Navaratri, is the festival of nine days dedicated to the nine forms of Shakti
(Mother Goddess) in the spring season (March–April). It is also known as
Chaitra Navaratri. The nine days of festival is also known as Raama Navratri.

2. Gupta Navaratri: Gupta Navaratri, also referred as Ashadha or
Gayatri or Shakambhari Navaratri, is nine days dedicated to the nine forms of
Shakti (Mother Goddess) in the month of Ashadha (June–July). Gupta Navaratri is
observed during the Ashadha Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon).

3. Sharada Navaratri: This is the most important of the Navaratris.
It is simply called Maha Navaratri (the Great Navratri) and is
celebrated in the month of Ashvina. Also known as Sharad Navaratri, as it is
celebrated during Sharad(beginning of winter, September–October).

4. Paush Navaratri: Paush Navaratri is nine days dedicated to the
nine forms of Shakti (Mother Goddess) in the month of Paush (December–January).
Paush Navaratri is observed during the Paush Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of
moon).

5. Magha Navaratri: Magha Navaratri, also referred as Gupta Navaratri,
is nine days dedicated to the nine forms of Shakti (Mother Goddess) in the
month of Magha (January–February). Magha Navaratri is observed during the Magha
Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon).

Nine forms of Shakti are worshipped during the Navaratris. The Devis
worshipped depend on the tradition of the region.

Durgathe inaccessible one

Bhadrakali

Amba or Jagadhamba, Mother of
     the universe

Annapoorna Devi, The one who
bestows grains (anna) in plenty (purna: used as subjective)

Sarvamangala, The one who
gives joy (mangal) to all (sarva)

Bhairavi

Chandika or Chandi

Lalitha

Bhavani

Mookambika

First three days

The goddess is separated as a spiritual force called Durga also known as
Kali in order to destroy all our impurities.

Second three days

The Mother is adored as a giver of spiritual wealth, Lakshmi, who is
considered to have the power of bestowing on her devotees inexhaustible wealth,
as she is the goddess of wealth.

Final three days

The final set of three days is spent in worshiping the goddess of wisdom,Saraswathi.
In order to have all-round success in life, believers seek the blessings of all
three aspects of the divine femininity, hence the nine nights of worship.

Eighth day is traditionally Durgashtami which is big in Bengal.

In some parts of South India, Saraswati
puja is performed on the 9th day. Ayudha Puja is conducted in many parts
of South India on the Mahanavami (Ninth) day
with much fanfare. Weapons, agricultural implements, all kinds of tools,
equipments, machinery and automobiles are decorated and worshipped on this day
along with the worship of Goddess. The work starts afresh from the next day,
i.e. the 10th day which is celebrated as 'Vijaya Dashami'. Many
teachers/Schools in south India
start teaching Kindergarten children from that day onwards.
Sanskrit, nava meaning nine and ratri meaning nights. During
these nine nights and ten days, nine forms of Shakti/Devi are worshiped. The
10th day is commonly referred to as Vijayadashami or "Dussehra”

considered to have the power of bestowing on her devotees inexhaustible wealth,
as she is the goddess of wealth.
