Painting in a wet medium is associated with using a brush - but how does that relate to 'painting' in soft pastels, which is how Artist & Author Paul Taggart describes his techniques of working in Artists' Quality Pastels?

In this simple, easy to follow Topical Tip, this author of fourteen books demonstrates how the paper wiper shares properties with the brush and how to exploit these to their fullest -- particularly in correcting, reshaping and redrawing. Thus proving that changes can be made throughout a pastel painting, which enables you to enjoy this medium, rather than fear it as being inflexible and difficult.

Learn how to use the shoulder of the wiper and the tip to achieve different effects; how to apply different pressures to either embed the pastel into the background to stabilise it, or to blend across strokes and effectively mix colours on the surface.

But I was wondering how you work out the reflection of an object when a) it is set back from the water like a tree on a hillside, and b) if you are not at horizon level, or are looking down on something like a shiny table top.
