Este año he sido convocado nuevamente para publicar mi trabajo en el diario Argentino La Nación. Hasta ahora he tenido 4 intervenciones. Dos de ellas llamadas Crónicas Urbanas, una suerte de narraciones acerca de la cotidianidad en la ciudad. Las otras dos tienen que ver con emprendimientos y desarrollos inmobiliarios.
En este post comparto las que tienen que ver con negocios que al final de cuentas, cambiarán la imagen urbana y por supuesto que la vida de quienes la habitan.

How to set a point of view

Workshop description:

One of the biggest challenges in a sketch is the drawing's composition. The balance and harmony between shapes and objects are vital.

To achieve the harmonious composition we are looking for we need to know to establish interesting points of views.

The essence of the composition is that all parties should be in a particular place or position and play the role that corresponds favoring them all.

It is almost impossible to prescribe specific rules that allow someone to compose. However, there are simple laws that guide available for an artist manages to be able to create an interesting composition

We will develop the basics to create engaging and thoughtful compositions, starting with thumbnail type schemes. (Frame-work-figure-ground, composition and management, framing from the point of view, background vs foreground, an unusual point of view)

Learning goals:

The participant can create harmonious compositions in their sketch
Be able to know how to use the compositional tools and apply them to their drawings on location
You can make sketch with novel and interesting points of view

Maximum number of participants: 35 (all levels of experience)

How to draw entourage in watercolors
Location: South Beach (Beach side park- Art Deco)

April 3-5

Workshop description:

This module focuses on the art of watercolor and especially in working the organic aspect of urban sketch: vegetation, water, integrated into the city landscape, people and architecture style.

It is important to know how to build a sketch and make it alive by integrating the above organic elements. The cities are not empty, have life, color and energy. So we will work with watercolors and learn how to draw these elements quickly and conveniently.

On the other hand, develop exercises where we apply the technique of the 3 colors, creating interesting harmonies without having to record each color found on the site.

The location chosen consists of two components: the beach, the sea, with its palm trees characteristics, people and houses. And the urban area of Art Deco architecture its interesting to working the architecture style and details.

Learning goals:

You can draw a sketch level organic elements in various techniques, especially watercolor
You will be able to integrate these elements into an urban scene
You can draw an urban scene from organic elements.
Work on the basics of color and the intelligent use of pallets.
You can draw architectural details using Art Decó like reference

How to draw with non waterproof ink and watercolors

Workshop description:

Pens with non-waterproof ink can be an interesting and essential to dominate when we do sketching. Often it is believed that we should use permanent ink before the watercolor, however, non-waterproof ink enhance the richness of the work and can create very interesting artistic effects.

About the instructor:

Mexican-born architect and educator currently teaching at the School of Architecture of the University of Buenos Aires. He is the founder and director of Taller Perspective, and also taught at the Society of Architects and other professional associations. He has taught in Mexico City, Lisbon-Portugal, Barcelona-Spain, Bogotá-Col, Santiago de Chile, Paraty-Brazil, Argentina and Singapure (july 2015)

Recently the Fundacio Enric Miralles invited him to collaborate with their academic interchange in the experimental workshops at 2014-15 in Barcelona, Spain and in the program of posgrado in the Faculty of Architecture in the UBA Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He specializes in the architecture design (analog-digital media) and concept drawings for the advertising industry.

Dorantes’ work has been recognized in several competitions in architecture and drawing. His works are in exhibited in Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Chile and Argentina.

“I have been professor since 1988. I taught perspective, watercolours and representation techniques at the National University of Mexico and in the University Motolinia Pedregal in Mexico city between 1988-1993 (out door and indoor classes).

At present my teaching experience is focused on the architectural projects in the University of Buenos Aires and drawing by hand, in societies of architects and in my own workshop Taller Perspectiva http://tallerperspectiva.blogspot.com/

Although Climaco Cardenas brings more than 25 years of Design experience in the fields of Architecture, Urban, Interior and production design to Sketch-it-on, his Postgraduate Studies in the University of Pennsylvania in Architecture and City Planning formed him as an urban scholar, researcher and thinker at heart. Climaco states: “Cities and Urban settlements are the physical expressions of cultural, political, economic, environmental and artistic intentions, ambitions and desires of the human creative power over time. The City must be studied historically and experienced and detailed through observation, analysis and drawing.”

He will be responsible for the tour and historical information of the city and locations visited during the workshops. As well as facilitating all event details on the ground in Miami.

Climaco currently works in his own practice Metrika Design, located in Palm Beach Florida. An architecture and planning firm working in the residential, urban, commercial and event production space. In the past, Climaco worked for the City Planning Department of Bogota as assistant to the director and was consultant to the Local government of the City of Cota for an Industrial Zone. In working with the Coffee Federation in Colombia as Technical Coordinator he managed the Taller de las Americas for famed Barcelona architect Ricardo Bofill.

He is fluent in Spanish, English and Portuguese.

After a good time to post on facebook, flickr I return to Blogger. Nice to continue sharing my work and experiences, thanks for stopping by and commenting.
January has been interesting, intense and recovery. A very different start to the year, with the taste of renewal. Not always the beginning of the year are usually like that, so I celebrate.
Within this package I spent time with my friend Clímaco Cárdenas, Colombian architect and town planner. Long talks, good food and some wine in between. New projects!
Here I share a sketch from the dock of the Yacht Club in Palm Beach. Beautiful site and refreshing.

Enero ha sido interesante, intenso y recuperador. Un inicio de año bien diferente, con ese sabor de renovación. No siempre los inicios de año suelen ser así, por eso lo celebro.

Barcelona: Mercado de Santa Catarina de Miralles-Tagliabue

Obra fantástica del estudio Miralles-Tagliabue. Es un mercado tradicional en zona céntrica de Barcelona. Bajo esta hermosa cubierta se respetó la estructura original del mercado y los descubrimientos arqueológicos. El escultor Toni Cunella realizo el diseño de las cerámicas que recubren la cubierta, una suerte de foto pixelada que deja descubrir sus colores desde distintos ángulos.

Este dibujo lo realice desde la parte posterior del Mercado, tomando algo fresco por el calor del verano y solamente pensando en el tema de la cubierta y los parasoles. Las columnas no están representadas. Me apetecio enfrentar el dibujo desde ese punto de vista.

Intercambio Taller experimental con Fundacio Enric Miralles

Estoy muy contento por varias razones. La primera es por la invitación que me ha hecho la Fundacio Enric Miralles para colaborar con ellos en los intercambios y talleres que realiza la organización con universidades y profesionales del mundo. Siendo una de las fundaciones mas prestigiosa de la experimentación arquitectónica se que la experiencia será por demás fructífera. Por otro lado, poder conectar alumnos de arquitectura con proyectos tan interesantes es una forma de aportar en su formación y en el futuro de nuestras ciudades a traves de pensamientos, exploraciones y nuevas maneras de reflexionar en los temas arquitectónicos y urbanos. Ademas, Enric Miralles fue un creador sin igual, sus dibujos contienen la genesis de sus ideas lo cual me emociona y conecta aun mas con este proyecto.
El intercambio se realizara entre la Fadu, Uba y algunas de las Cátedras de proyecto/diseño en donde soy profesor y ahora referente de la Fundacio EM. Muy pronto publicaremos la información oficial

Working in ceramics: designing and prototyping an architectural installation in the urban landscape

El programa es un taller de dos semanas en jornada completa que apunta para redefinir el paisaje urbano alrededor del Mercat del Born, en Barcelona, enfocando la aparición, la heterogeneidad, el descentrado y lo efímero en la vida social.

El taller se define por un acercamiento específico aplicado. El proceso de investigación culminará en la construcción de una instalación temporal con el trabajo de los estudiantes colaborativos. Los estudiantes producirán prototipos, maquetas y pruebas físicas, desafíando las habilidades habituales y la práctica de arquitectura y el diseño.

El empleo de la cerámica y sus técnicas de construcción tradicionales es el punto de partida para aprender a trabajar con materiales específicos, descubriendo sus características y manipulándolos de un modo simple y reproductible. La presencia de Toni Cumella famoso ceramista es un factor del programa.

La Fundació Enric Miralles, basada en el modo de hacer y pensar establecido por Enric Miralles, es un centro de experimentación de arquitectura contemporánea y es concebido como una plataforma para la promoción del conocimiento.

Este octubre armamos la expo con el trabajo de nuestros alumnos del taller de Arquitectura 1 de la Cátedra Grinberg de la FADU, UBA donde soy profesor. Re Pensando el Sivori es el tema. Es una exposición de proyectos en donde hemos trabajado en un nuevo espacio funcional y conceptual para el Museo.
Este es el dibujo del concepto de la muestra. Una grilla de maquetas y una cinta blanca de 50mts con grafica de proyectos, fotos, croquis, maquetas, planos y memorias de proyectos.

Taller en Posgrado FAU-Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, Argentina

Ha sido una experiencia muy interesante. Lo más lejos que viajé al norte de Argentina fué para impartir un curso en la Provincia de la Rioja, para el CAPBA. Sin embargo, hace un par de semanas tuve la oportunidad de enseñar en Tucumán.
La producción fué fenomenal (pronto tendremos el resultado) Iniciamos con una charla global donde compartí algunas ideas acerca del dibujo de autor: El dibujo en la vida profesional, diario de viaje, croquis de maestros y dibujos de no arquitectos. Comparto dicha presentación que si bien no tiene texto, contiene las imágenes de la charla inagural.
Gracias a los arquitectos Julio Agier, Hugo Ahumada y Victor "Tito" Lorenzo por la gestión, participación y la buena onda! el vino, el asado, las empanadas y el locro!!! Un abrazo!

Varela Neighborhood

Varela is a neighborhood that is postponed, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. It is one of the first social housing units in this city.
When I walked through the streets I found Davíd, one resident of the neighborhood. He likes to get old and rare cars and fix them. It is a somewhat expensive hobby, which is why the re-run cars over a long time. This car has about two years in front of his house.
Maybe in 2014 we hear his engine again.

Fui contratado para crear el material de esta publicidad. La idea fué pintar los trabajos de la protagonista, una profesora de pintura, y además todos los trabajos de los alumnos. En total unas 60 acuarelas, muchas de ellas dibujadas en el sitio. La filmación se realizó en Punta Ballena, Uruguay. Durante la misma, se me pidió pintar en el momento de la filmación en la escena donde la mujer sopla. Acuarelas sobre papel fino Shoeler. 300g.

Si, es verdad, este es un blog en donde comparto dibujos que tienen relación con la ciudad, el urbanismo, la arquitectura, el espacio interior. Pero a veces uno tiene uno de esos deslices. Esta acuarela la realicé hace un par de meses, bien relajado, en la quinta. El ambiente fué perfecto e inspirador de estos temas.

Mi humilde homenaje por sus 100 años, por los recuerdos de millones abriendo y cerrando sus puertas manuales y por todos sus kilómetros recorridos. 1913-2013.

Después de 96 años de servicio continuo, los coches de La Brugeoise están cerca de su retirada definitiva del servicio (el día de hoy 11 de enero de 2013 circularon por última vez). El 23 de diciembre de 2008, dos nuevas estaciones fueron inauguradas en la Línea A: Puan y Carabobo. El aumento de la demanda podría ser absorbido por la flota actual, con el refuerzo de dos trenes Fiat Materfer tomado de la línea D. Un total de 95 coches de La Brugeoise operan en la Línea A.

Lss piezas de repuesto para estos trenes ya no están disponibles en el mercado por lo que tienen que ser hechas a medida por pedido del cliente en el taller Polvorín, donde las unidades La Brugeoise y otros materiales rodantes del Subterráneo de Buenos Aires son mantenidas y reparadas por personal altamente capacitado y calificado. Según Metrovías, el operador privado del Subterráneo de Buenos Aires, cada 20 días las unidades se someten a un chequeo de rutina, mientras que cada cuatro años se lleva a cabo el mantenimiento mayor. En 2008, a pesar de sus 96 años de servicio ininterrumpido, los trenes Brugeoise tenían uno de los promedios más bajos de falla mecánica en la red: 19 cada 100.000 km.⁴

Las anécdotas y los recuerdos dejados en el público por estos «tranvías» antiguos, así como la fascinación que causan los vehículos de otras épocas por el refinamiento y detalles constructivos, han inicado en el mundo una corriente de revalorización de su imagen y presencia. Han surgido varias voces en contra del retiro de éstos, considerándolos como un símbolo de Buenos Aires; otros sugieren que los coches Brugeoise funcionen en días festivos y feriados y de refuerzo a fin de preservarlos. wiki

Encubadora de Ideas

El Centro Metropolitano de Diseño en Barracas es una gran encubadora de nuevos proyectos. Tuve la fortuna de ser acompañado por una amiga colega, Arq Adriana Moralejo, que gestionò y diseño el edificio junto con su equipo de proyecto. Intereantemente el gobierno les dio todos los recursos para terminar la obra sin tener siquiera el 50% de los proyectos que ocuparìan el edificio en el inicio. Hoy existen muchos metros cuadrados en deshuso pero totalmente equipados.

El diseño de mobiliario, carpinterìa y equipamiento fue inspirado en la obra de Mondrian.

Me fascina la entrada de luz y las sombras que se generan en el gran espacio de triple altura.

Desayuno en el Tortoni

Una mañana me alargue en mi desayuno, cuatro horas para tomar cafecito y medialunas. Todo para dibujar este hermoso sitio.
El Café Tortoni, ubicado en el 825 de la Avenida de Mayo, en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, es el más representativo del espíritu tradicional de dicha avenida y una leyenda de la ciudad. En él funcionó la peña literaria de mayor predicamento de Buenos Aires, liderada por el pintor Benito Quinquela Martín.wiki

Octubre lluvioso

La comida vegetariana no es particularmente mi favorita (sobre todo en la capital de la carne). Pero sé que en una esquina (muy interesante, en el segundo piso, en un restaurante), hay una espectacular vista que muestra el movimiento diario del que vive en el centro de la ciudad. No tuve otra opción que elegir algo del menú (que resultó ser muy saludable) Dicho resto se encuentra en Diagonal Norte y la calle Florida, rincón emblemático de la ciudad. Y es uno de mis favoritos.

Cada Ciudad Universitaria tiene vida propia. Estudié en la UNAM en México. En esos 5 años viajando casi 2 horas desde mi casa hasta el sur de DF aprendía a disfrutar lo que sería mi hogar por largas horas de mi tiempo diario. Caminé por esos espacios abiertos del Campus universitario, (hoy declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO) que imaginó el maestro Barragán, pasando de lado por los murales y relieves de nuestro Diego (Rivera), Siqueiros y muchos más muralistas y artístas. La modernidad de esa gran obra del 50 nos animó a pensar que había un futuro excelente y que era posible.

Hace 10 años que resido en Argentina y casi el primer contacto con la profesión fué el ámbito universitario. Me emocionó encontrar el libro de Jaime Grinberg "480 estudios del espacio", ahora mi jefe de Cátedra. Busqué al arquitecto hasta encontrarnos en Ciudad Universitaria y en el Museo de Maquetas.

Hoy CU es mi hogar dos mañanas a la semana. Esos pabellones inmensos y su patio central. Vibrante patio central. Papeles, maquetas, murmullos, planos y dibujos. Recuerdos.
