Think again. There is sufficient evidence suggesting that it can also help in managing certain kinds of pain and discomfort from arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis. But is there really a connection between arthritis and fish oil? Let us find out.

Arthritis, more specifically rheumatoid arthritis, is an autoimmune condition wherein the membrane that lubricates and protects the joints become inflamed, leading to pains and discomfort. The most common form of this condition is called osteoarthritis where a sufferer has to live with nagging pain, swelling, inflammation and difficulty in moving. The problem with this condition is that there is no known cure - and it leads to slow deterioration of the affected parts.

Arthritis is caused by a variety of factors including nutritional deficiencies or excesses, poor diet and other factors like pollution or lack of exercise. Improving the diet by lessening the intake of processed foods and eating more fresh fruits and vegetables can help increase your body's immunity and level of antioxidants, which can significantly help combat arthritis and other conditions.

Taking supplements such as fish oils has also been beneficial for arthritis sufferers. But what is the connection between the two? Fish oils are rich in Omega 3. These Omega 3 fatty acids are actually polyunsaturated fats - considered as "good fats." Polyunsaturated fats like DHA and EPA are responsible for the wide range of benefits, including its benefit in managing arthritis.

Traditional treatments for arthritis involve anti-inflammatory drugs like Celebrex, which are notorious for their unwanted side effects (kidney failure and coronary heart disease, for example). Similarly, fatty acids contain a potent anti-inflammatory chemical which can significantly reduce pain and discomfort caused by rheumatoid arthritis. The anti-inflammatory effect of it work differently because they stop pain due to inflammation the natural way, hence, no unwanted side effects.

Aside from relief from arthritis symptoms, fish oil supplements also bring you a wider range of health benefits. It help promote healthier joints by "oiling" them and prevent cartilage and tissue deterioration. Research also suggests that omega 3 fatty acids can stop and reverse the effects of enzymes that bring damage to the cartilage in osteoarthritis sufferers..

Just how much omega 3 do you need for effective relief from symptoms of arthritis? Research suggest that intake of at least 2.7 grams of omega 3 (DHA and/or EPA) per day can reduce joint inflammation and pain associated with arthritis. Make sure your fish oil supplement will provide you with a potent dose that can bring about results.

Arthritis is a seriously debilitating disease, but thanks to the discovered connection between the two, relief from those pains are within reach. Omega 3 fish oils can help manage arthritis without the dangers of side effects traditional medications are reported to bring.

Get your free report and free video about fish oil health benefits at PureConcentratedFishOil.com. Both are the gifts of luxurious living or an overdose of activity that has in both cases made our muscles the easy target. Exercises are vital in case of a knee pain but the pain by itself will not allow you to effect any movement.

How then shall we exercise?

Here are some tips that I am going to spell out in my article which will prevent the problem from arising in the first place and ease out the pain if the problem is already persisting. First of all let us not forget some of the age old technique of healthy living though they may seem tedious in present day living. Sqauting with a cross leg posture on the floor was the best system of the Indians. The Namaz read by the muslims in the Vajrasan pose is also a very good posture for avoiding arthritis. Walking can ease oput a lot of problems including knee pain. But always remember to have the right posture and the comfortable speed in walking, that is not too fast nor slow. See that you do not walk till dead! Always practice walking before you start on a jog. You can walk for a week and then get down to jogging. Have the practice of small walks even if you are in pain, as it is only exercise that can bring flexibility to your poor muscles. However the pain may not let you exercise but can go only through exercise!

How can we practice yoga in pain ?

The best yogic postures are those that give movement and thus cause enhanced blood circulation to various parts of the body devoid of any obstruction. Thus we must concentrate not only on the knee but also the thighs, shoulders, hands, fingers and ankles. Always take the necessary medication that is prescribed by your doctor to ease the pain. Never exercise to the extent of fainting! Begin with rotation of wrists, neck, hands and legs clockwise and anti-clockwise three time each. You can do this sitting or standing or better even in a sleeping posture. Be careful not to lose control and fall. Be slow in taking the the yogic postures as it will make you hold yourself correctly and stop at the position of pain. This is very important as you will be able to get to the correct maximum bend in due course. So do not over exert and cause damage. Continue for two days. Now you are ready to add a few more exercises to your sheet.

Always concentrate on your breath and reax all muscles when you take the postures. This can help in free flow of blood and oxygen without any pressure and can to a large extent relieve the pains.

Knee relaxing:
Lie down on your back knee folded and slide your legs slowly to a full extent and back again. do with alternate legs. Next repeat the same lying on your sides.

Vrikshasana: Stand straight, take both the hands above your head and join the palms on the top. Now lift your foot and stand on your toes for as long as you can, breath normally. Do this slowly so that you don't lose balance.

Swastikasana: Spread your legs straight in front of you. Squat cross legged with the right foot resting on the left thigh, take the dyanamudra pose with the wrists of both hands on the respective knees. Breathe deeply for a few minutes. Always stop when painfull.

Pavanamuktasana: Here fold the knee and thigh to press against the chest and belly. Do with one leg at a time and then both legs together.

Vajrasana: This is the best posture but may be painful in the begining. Try after the pain has eased out a bit. Sit on knees folded and palms resting on the thighs. You may in a later stage slowly spread one leg at a time behind you and stay in that posture.

Veerasana: Stand straight, slowly slide left leg forward as much as possible. Turn to the left clasp both hands and raise way back and bend back your head. Breath deeply and slowly return back to the starting position in the reversse proceedure. Do this slowly not to lose balance.

Practice these posture regularly at least 2-3 times a day.
Yoga is like taking bath.
Do it daily without fail and see the happiness come back to your life.

Glucosamine, A Natural Alterantive For Arthritic Pain Relief
Glucosamine is a substance that can be found naturally in the human body and is one of the amino sugars that our bodies produce. It is believed that this particular substance plays a major role in helping repair the body as well as form new cartilage. Glucosamine can be purchased in supplemental form and can be included as part of ones dietary requirements. Certainly for many people who suffer from osteoarthritis this supplement is being used quite regularly for treatment. Although our own bodies do produce glucosamine there are not sufficient enough amounts to have a beneficial effect on our bodies. Yet more and more people are now discovering how beneficial this is in helping to prevent with the pain and injuries that many joint problems can cause. Below we take a look at some other facts about this particular supplement that you should know about if considering using it.

This substance was first identified by G Ledderhose in 1876, however it was not until 1939 that it was fully defined by Walter Haworth. Although it is made in the body naturally it can be obtained from other products, it helps to produce sugars that contain ample amounts of nitrogen essential to our body.

Today many people who suffer from osteoarthritis will take this particular supplement orally. It is believed that by taking Glucosamine the cartilage which becomes damaged over time can be repaired and rebuilt and so combat some of the effects felt when suffering from various forms of arthritis. However there is quite a lot of conflicting evidence which can not provide these people with substantive proof that this supplement is truly effective in helping to treat arthritic ailments.

On average a person who is using glucosamine in order to treat their osteoarthritis will take around 1500 mg each day normally in a salt formulation. But be wary when purchasing any kind of glucosamine that is available as either glucosamine sulfate (MonaVie includes glucosamine sulfate) or as glucosamine hydrochloride, you may also find that some of these supplements also contain chondroitin sulfate and methylfulonylmethane.

As you will soon discover when carrying out further research into glucosamine it has become an extremely popular alternative treatment for osteoarthritis. But as well as it being used by humans to treat joint problems it is also used by many veterinarians for treating animals as well. This particular substance works in both humans and animals by helping the body increase its production of glycosamine glycans (GAG) and these are essential to ensure that the structure of the cartilage in the body remains strong. In fact GAG is a very important nutrient that our bodies require and which helps with the growth of new cartilage.

Glucosamine is produced by extracting it from the shells of crabs, lobster or shrimps and is sold either as a dietary or nutritional supplement. The glucosamine is extracted from the chitin (found in the shell of the fish) and is a carbohydrate. People who have an allergic reaction to shellfish may find that they do not have any whatsoever when they use glucosamine as a supplement. This is because it is the protein in the flesh of the shellfish which causes them to have an allergic reaction. Although most of the glucosamine supplements we see today have been extracted from shellfish there are now alternative ways of this particular substance being produced. Some of the supplements you can purchase today have been made by extraction from corn after it has been fermented using fungi.

Over the years there have been a number of clinical studies carried out on glucosamine and all of which appear to show that it is perfectly safe to be used by most people. However if you are someone who does suffer from any sort of allergic reaction to shell fish it may well be advisable to speak with your doctor first before you actually starting taking it. It is important to note that glucosamine is extracted from the shell of the fish rather than from its flesh and therefore people with a shellfish allergy may find it perfectly safe to use.

In the USA this supplement has not been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) as a medical treatment. Rather it has been classed as a dietary supplement and the onus falls on the manufacturers of any glucosamine supplements to make sure that they are perfectly safe for the public to use. Crucially when looking at any kind of glucosamine supplement you realize that as long as the manufacturers do not advertise their product as a treatment for any kind of medical condition then they are not required by law to provide you with any kind of proof of how safe and effective it is. Yet in Europe this supplement has been approved as a medical treatment and is sold in its form known as glucosamine sulphate.

Unfortunately as we grow older our body starts to degenerate and over time the cartilage in our body begins to wear down the joints and become less cushioned. The body does not function as effectively and so the replacement of such parts of the body as cartilage normally slows down or stops altogether. This then leads to people suffering from arthritis and the most common form that people suffer from today is known as osteoarthritis. In fact for some people this particular condition can be extremely debilitating and find it very difficult to lead a normal life. So being aware of just what benefits can be gained from taking glucosamine may help osteoarthritis sufferers gain some relief from this particular condition.

Glucosamine is an active ingredient in MonaVie Active in convenient liquid form and as explained above helps maintain lubricating fluid in joints, promotes flexibility, range of motion and comfortable joint function and provides a natural building block of healthy cartilage.

Modern science has now validated the remarkable benefits of the Acai Berry. The acai berry provides a remarkable source of protein, healthy fats, essential vitamins and minerals. MonaVie also contains the Acai Berry.

The American Arthritis Foundation - What It is About and What It Can Do for You
The American Arthritis Foundation or more commonly, the Arthritis Foundation, is a non-profit organization that promotes education about arthritis and other related conditions through the use of research, programs, services and advocacy. It seeks to provide programs at community levels to help arthritis patients from all over the country benefit from its common resources.

Many of the services offered by this organization are made possible by voluntary efforts, although professional support and expertise are provided by paid staff. While it was founded as a not-for-profit organization, the Arthritis Foundation's research is backed by fund-raising efforts and donations from sponsors. Since 1948, the Arthritis Foundation has funded over 2,000 physicians, scientists and researchers in the continuing quest to find a cure for arthritis. Its spending on research is now over $244 million.

A Brief History of the Arthritis Foundation

The foundation began in 1948, when a group of doctors forming the Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation decided to organize a nationwide effort to promote awareness and research about arthritis. The foundation focused on creating countrywide chapters and on raising funds to help support its research and education projects.

During its first year, the Arthritis and Rheumatoid Foundation was able to spearhead research that resulted in some significant discoveries, including the link between rheumatoid arthritis and a deficiency in the immune system and the drug cortisone. More research and progress followed, along with the discovery that arthritis was actually made up of several types of diseases. During its first few years as an organization, the Arthritis and Rheumatoid Foundation also published the first Bulletin on the Rheumatic Diseases.

In 1964, after efforts in educating patients and consolidating the efforts of physicians all around the country, the Arthritis and Rheumatoid Foundation was reorganized and renamed as the Arthritis Foundation. When the government cut a significant amount of funding in 1969, the organization sought the help of the public who responded by giving donations to help fund projects and research programs.

The Contributions of the Arthritis Foundation

Aside from education and continuing research on arthritis, the Foundation was pivotal in raising awareness and government support for arthritis, which resulted to the 1974 National Arthritis Act. This led to the funding of arthritis centers and increase in arthritis programs, along with the creation of a national commission for arthritis.

The Arthritis Foundation is also responsible for the research that led to developments in joint replacement surgery along with improvements in the techniques used for hand and foot surgery. It is also instrumental in the discovery and introduction of anti-inflammatory drugs. In the 1980s, the American Juvenile Arthritis Organization was formed, specifically to focus on the special requirements of children with arthritis.

Today, the Arthritis Foundation continues to provide support to promote information about arthritis and funding for the research necessary in order to finally discover an effective treatment for the disease and hopefully, a cure.

How Many Chapters Does the Arthritis Foundation Have?

Currently the Foundation supports 150 chapters around the country. To get in touch with a local chapter or service point, check out their website at Arthritis.org to search for one that's nearest you.

What Can I Expect from the Arthritis Foundation?

The Arthritis Foundation has been at the forefront of research to discover the nature of arthritis and its treatments. Its aim is to eventually find the cure for this condition. The organization also provides a means to educate people about arthritis and to promote awareness through advocacy and related programs.

The organization's site is also an important part of its thrust for continuing education about arthritis. Regular joint movement helps improve mobility, increases joint flexibility, strengthens the surrounding muscles, and also helps reduce pain. People suffering with arthritis should first discuss with their doctor what kind of exercises they are allowed to do before starting an exercise regimen.

Some of the exercises recommended for people with arthritis are listed below.

1. Range-of-motion exercises are very simple and mild stretching exercises. If performed daily, they can show tremendous improvement in the condition of the patient who are suffering due to inflammatory pain and are extremely scared to even move their painful joints. These exercises relieve stiffness, improve flexibility, and prevent deformity. The range-of-motion exercises involve the movement of each joint as far as possible in all the directions.

2. Strengthening exercises help in strengthening the muscles, which can then provide improved support to the joints thereby facilitating easy movement and reducing the pain. Doctors usually recommend two types of strengthening exercises depending on the need of the patient -- isometric strengthening exercises or isotonic strengthening exercises. While the isometric exercises are performed without moving the joints (in case of impaired joint mobility) through simple tightening of the muscle, the isotonic exercises involve strengthening of the muscles by moving the joint.

3. Endurance exercises are those exercises and physical activities which improve the stamina of the person. These exercises help to gradually increase the heart beat rate for at least twenty to thirty minutes, thereby improving the cardiovascular fitness. Arthritis patients must consult their doctors and carefully choose the kind of endurance exercise they wish to perform in order to prevent exercises prompted joint inflammation or injury.

People suffering from arthritis are usually suggested to do walking, running, jogging, swimming, cycling or even yoga to improve their condition and alleviate some of the pain they experience.
Check Out More Articles:

Alzheimer's companion cards - The baby boomers and the health industry,
Intellectual Disability And Aging,
Letter retirement sample.

Knee Arthritis Treatment And Pain Relief
Knee arthritis can also be called osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is essentially the wearing down of the cartilage surrounding the knee which occurs simply as people age. Another common form of knee arthritis is Rheumatoid Arthritis, which results in swelling within the joint and damage to the cartilage. Not only do these forms of knee arthritis affect the joints and cartilage, they can also have a serious impact on the surrounding ligaments, muscles and tendons.

Osteoarthritis is often the result of increased strain on the joint due to weight, or repeated injury or damage. Knee arthritis is definitely more common in middle aged to elderly persons. A younger sufferer of knee arthritis has usually inherited the condition- it does have a genetic disposition, or it can be the after affect of a serious knee injury- more common in sports men- specifically footballers. Rheumatoid arthritis is more common in younger people for this reason.

There are various warning signs for potential sufferers of knee arthritis- these could be restricted knee movement, localized swelling or inflammation and discomfort and pain. The most key indicator however is stiffness- when the knee has not been moved for a period of time, and then movement is not fluid- this is a possible indicator of knee arthritis. Another warning sign is a clicking sound coming from the joint when it is extended- this can be cause by other knee conditions other than knee arthritis however. Whatever the potential symptom, the patient will always need to have an X-Ray before any sense of a diagnosis can be performed by the recommending physician or doctor.

There are less related methods of testing for knee arthritis as well. The main one is simply a blood test- doctor’s will be able to see deficiency in the blood results. An arthroscopy will also most certainly confirm the diagnosis of knee arthritis, however this will only be recommended if there is an intention to fix the knee arthritis.

Here are the 4 main treatments for knee arthritis:

Exercise – It has been proven that one of the most significant factors in causing knee arthritis is being overweight. If the sufferer can begin a gentle exercise regime in combination with a healthy diet, there is every chance that the knee arthritis symptoms will ease.

Physical therapy – There are sets of exercises which a physician or doctor can recommend. These exercises benefit the knee arthritis by focusing mobility in certain parts of the knee where the stiffness is occurring, thus easing the symptoms of the knee arthritis.

Medication – Often sufferers of knee arthritis will be administered basic pain killers such as Aspirin, but also Acetaminophen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications.

Surgery – Surgery on knee arthritis needs to be carefully considered and evaluated by your doctor before being pursued as a treatment option for knee arthritis. Certain factors such as health, weight age all need to be considered before deciding it is the best method to take. Usually all other methods of knee arthritis treatments will be exhausted before surgery will be considered.

Knee arthritis like most forms of arthritis can be easily managed and the symptoms controlled. It is crucial to diagnose as early as possible, as this will lead to a greater chance of curing the knee arthritis.

Want further information on arthritis treatment and pain relief? Today, a wide range of causes is attached to joint pain, where an array of treatment options can ease some or all of the symptoms.

When advanced, the outcome of joint pain is rather hard to live with, as simple tasks like walking across the room or washing the dishes can create an unbearable moment.

The Symptoms of Joint Pain

Joint pain is quite noticeable when it strikes. An individual usually experiences discomfort, stiffness, swelling, and/or warmth about the joints. When injury is not an underlying cause, the pain can attack one or more joints, which is often a direct result of inflammation or infection. When persistent pain is a lingering symptom, it is suggested to make an appointment with a doctor. This is also true if this type of pain takes place after suffering a viral infection.

Common Causes of Joint Pain

When it comes to joint pain, the most common causes include bursitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis. When a patient suffers osteoarthritis, cartilage starts to break down generally in the joints located in the neck, knees, lower back, hips, and fingers.

As the cartilage disappears, the bones start to rub against one another, which is why intense pain and limited mobility develops. This particular condition is quite common in adults who are older than 45 years old.

When inflammation strikes the bursae, the result is a condition called bursitis, which is associated with intense joint pain and irritation. The alkaline action of raw juices dissolves the accumulation of deposits around the joints and in other tissues so the diet should include alkaline foods in order to protection of tissues, proteins and carbohydrates for energy.

For more helpful Information on Home and Herbal Remedies for Arthritis Cure visit Herbal Home Remedies and Natural Treatments.

Snake Venom May Stop Arthritis Pain
The next time you see a snake, don't kill it or drive it away.

That slithering serpent may save you from the pain of arthritis.

This bizarre revelation comes from Dr. Naftali Primor, research and development manager for Shulov Institute for Sciences Ltd (SIS) in Israel, who said that certain chemicals in snake venom may help treat arthritis - a condition that affects over 46 million people in the United States alone.

"The scientific team that Primor heads at SIS has identified the chemicals in the snake venom of cobras, vipers and rattlers. The company is using this knowledge to make a potent analgesic against chronic pain such as arthritis, and secondary pain caused by other diseases such as cancer. Primor suspects that the venom has therapeutic properties also, but more studies need to be done," according to Britain Israel Communications and Research Center (BICOM).

As early as 2002, there have been reports of people who were mysteriously cured of arthritis after being bitten by snakes. Jose de Casa, 66, a longtime arthritis sufferer from Northamptonshire in England, was cleaning his garden when an adder bit him. For the next few months, he was pain-free.

"After the bite I noticed that the usual pain that I have in the joint of my finger had gone completely and this lasted for three or four weeks. Then the pain was reduced for a couple of months, although it is now back to normal," he told the BBC News.

Primor believes the bad publicity surrounding snakes is unfair, considering that these creatures occupy an importance place in medicine. As far as he can remember, he has always been fond of snakes. Little did he know he would bring back his slithering friends into the limelight again.

In 1986, his friend the late Professor Aharon Shulov of the Hebrew University and Aviv Marx founded SIS that currently produces an antiserum for yellow scorpion stings that is used in many hospitals.

The idea that snake venom might be useful in treating arthritis occurred to Primor in the early 80s when Shulov told him that Russian immigrants used a healing salve supposedly made of viper venom to treat body aches and pains.

Following this lead, Primor set his sights on the Palestinian viper - a common snake in Israel - and extracted its venom. He found that the venom contained about 1,000 molecules of which only four or five are poisonous. He then isolated an analgesic molecule and made a synthetic copy called VeP-3.

"About 99 percent of the venom is non-toxic, which leaves us with a great source of possible drug components," said the 62-year-old snake specialist and biochemist.

With this discovery, Primor hopes to create a snake venom pain-reliving cream that will hit drugstores in the near future. He intends to use the same technique used by pharmaceutical company Merck & Company in mimicking the beneficial effects of the deadly venom without its toxic effects.

"Snake venom has already led to several new drugs used by Britons. Take for example, Aggrastat, a 'super aspirin' introduced by Merck to prevent blood clots and to help prevent heart attacks in people hospitalized with severe chest pain. The drug came about through the knowledge that some victims of snakebites bleed to death because the venom contains proteins that prevent blood clotting," said BICOM.

"Researchers from Temple University in Philadelphia and Merck isolated molecules from actual viper venom, then Merck built a synthetic molecule to mimic the viper's anti-clotting effect but without the toxins. Through a similar process, SIS is attempting to create an arthritic pain reliever," BICOM added.

As Primor and his colleagues continue their research on snake venom, don't make the mistake of seeking snakes and hoping their bite will spare you from the misery of arthritis. You might kill yourself in the process. But some doctors claim the latter can help people with arthritis who don't respond well to traditional medications.

That's the buzz from Dr. Christopher Kim, medical director of the Monmouth Pain Institute in Red Bank, New Jersey, who has used bee venom therapy or apitherapy on 3,000 patients. Writing in the German medical journal "Rheumatologie," Kim said that apitherapy is safe, effective, and free of serious side effects.

Kim's endorsement of bee venom therapy follows a two-year- study he conducted on 108 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis who were not helped by conventional painkillers. He first gave the subjects twice weekly injections of been venom and gradually increased the shots. After 12 injections, most of the patients showed marked improvement.

Kim is not the only doctor using this controversial technique. Over 50 American physicians report good results using bee venom to treat not only pain but arthritic conditions, multiple sclerosis, high blood pressure, asthma, hearing loss, and even premenstrual syndrome.

Dr. Lawrence Cohen of Danbury, Connecticut, said one of his patients suffered pain as a result of two hip replacement operations. Louise Chirasello of Brewster, New York, had tried all kinds of painkillers but none helped her.

"I was so sore, you could not touch my hips without me crying out," she recalled.

The 84-year-old widow claims she was cured by a shot of bee venom. She received several injections of bee venom from Cohen weekly until her dose was reduced to one injection every two or three weeks. After a year, she was still pain-free.

At the eighth annual Asian Apicultural Association conference at the University of West Australia, Nepalese entomologist Ratna Thapa said he had a 50 - 60 percent success rate in treating arthritis with bee venom, and a 90 percent success rate when this substance was used to treat lower back and shoulder pain. But the idea is not new.

"Bee venom therapy has been around for thousands of years. Reference to the treatment can be found in ancient Egypt and Greek medical writings. Also known as apitherapy, the technique is more widely used in Eastern Europe, Asia and South America. Treatments supposedly started after beekeepers, who were stung many times, noticed their arthritis pains were relieved. Some practitioners still use live bee stings to deliver the venom," according to Charles Downey of WebMD.

What's the secret behind the success of bee venom? Cohen says it contains mellitin, an anti-inflammatory agent that is a hundred times stronger than cortisone, and adolapin which also fights inflammation and pain. Practitioners believe these ingredients work together and help the body release natural healing compounds that improve blood circulation and reduce swelling.

Still, others are not convinced of its efficacy, especially since most of the evidence is anecdotal and there are no double blind studies supporting this therapy. Skeptics warn that one to five percent of the population is allergic to bee venom and the injections or bee stings can be painful.

"Evaluations of most US medical treatments are based on double-blind studies - where neither the subject nor researcher knows who is getting the real medicine or a placebo. Most reports about bee venom therapy are anecdotal. Even those studies looking at more than one patient, such as Kim's, have not included a placebo group for comparison," Downey said.

Until we know for sure whether bee venom is safe and effective, it's best to stick to other tried and true remedies for arthritis. One of them is Flexcerin, a natural supplement that stops arthritis pain and restores joint function so you can be where the action is.
For details, go to http://www.flexcerin.com.

Janet Martin is an avid health and fitness enthusiast and published author.
Many of her insightful articles can be found at the premiere online news magazine

Lower Back Pain Can Be A Symptom Of Arthritis
Many forms of arthritis can contribute to back pain including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and osteoarthritis. Arthritis pain is a hard ailment to treat and some types of arthritis, including those that cause back pain, continue to get worse as we age.

Other Symptoms

Back pain is one of the most common and difficult to treat ailments. And many times back pain is directly related to arthritis. The pain can slowly become more and more noticeable with time and be worse in the evening or when trying to relax. Morning stiffness and pain in other parts of the body are other symptoms. Of course back pain can be related to diseases other than arthritis, so a trip to your doctor is definitely warranted.

Treatments

The treatments for arthritis pain whether in your back, shoulders, neck, knees or hands is basically the same. Heat therapies have always been exceedingly popular, now more than ever. New continuous low level heat therapy has been found to be very effective in reducing pain and increasing flexibility. These heat sources consist of the over-the-counter large bandage type patches containing chemicals that offer up to eight hours of 104 degrees of continuous heat.

Other common treatments include physical therapy, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, steroid injections and even dietary therapies. Chiropractics and acupuncture are some other very helpful treatments. Pain management techniques for arthritis can be used alone, but most likely will be used in multiples. Some treatments will stop working in time and new methods will have to be found to control pain effectively.

Support

Arthritic back pain can be debilitating and can lead to emotional stress and psychological support may become necessary. A professional therapist should be consulted if serious problems arise.

It may even become necessary to change your profession depending on the type of work that you do and the seriousness of your disease. Back pain, whether arthritis related or not, is the number one cause of disability today. Depend on friends and family members for support and reassurance. Having loving people around you can make all the difference when facing these life-changing decisions.

If you experience any recurring pain in your back or other joints or muscles make an appointment to see your doctor. Back pain is a symptom not a disease and the root of the pain must be discovered before any effective treatment method can be prescribed.

Kerry Gibbs is an interior designer in Phoenix, Arizona. So far, results are encouraging.

The scientists presented their findings at Experimental Biology 2007, an annual gathering of several scientific societies that was held in Washington, D.C.

In their study, the researchers found that joint cells called synovial fibroblasts that were affected by RA improved after being treated with EGCG. Compared to the untreated fibroblasts, the treated ones had lower levels of inflammation, according to Dr. Salah-uddin Ahmed, one of the investigators.

"The EGCG-treated cells produced lower levels of two other inflammatory chemicals than cells that hadn't been treated with EGCG. In fact, the highest tested dose of EGCG virtually halted production of those inflammatory chemicals during the experiment. Further lab tests show that EGCG blocked a chemical chain reaction linked to inflammation and joint damage," reported Miranda Hitti in WebMD Medical News.

"The results from this study suggest that EGCG may be of potential therapeutic value in regulating the joint destruction in RA," Ahmed said.

In addition to EGCG, Dr. David Buttle of the University of Sheffield in England said green tea also contains ECG (epicatechin gallate) that can help prevent osteoarthritis by blocking the enzyme that destroys cartilage.

"If you have fairly severe joint damage it may be too late to do anything about it, but if you spend decades of your life drinking green tea in the end it may be beneficial," Buttle said.

However, researchers have yet to determine if drinking green tea produces the same effect as in being treated with EGCG directly and how much green tea is needed to achieve the desired results.

Earlier, Dr. Tariq Haqqi of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, found that antioxidants in green tea called polyphenols may reduce the incidence and severity of RA.

In his report published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Haqqi said that mice that were given water mixed with green tea and later injected with a drug to induce RA were less susceptible to the disease. The amount of green tea consumed by the mice was equivalent to four cups a day.

"For the mice fed green tea which did however develop arthritis, it occurred as late onset and mild. Only 8 out of 18 mice receiving green tea polyphenols developed arthritis, while 17 out of 18 mice not receiving green tea polyphenols developed arthritis," revealed Carol and Richard Eustice in "Your Guide to Arthritis," an online newsletter of About.com.

At present, green tea is consumed in many parts of the world, including India, China, and Japan where it is regarded as a health drink. Expect to hear more good news as scientists look further into the benefits of green tea. Most of the sufferers will seek out expensive medical treatment offering nothing more than harsh side-effects but millions will allow the disease to run its course and make life miserable. But living with it does not have to leave you unable from doing the things you love. In fact, I have 70+ year old customers who write me every week and share how their arthritis is not a problem anymore. But just how did they do it and what's their secret?

Osteoarthritis- Is it ruining your life?

There are many different forms but the most common form is called osteoarthritis. The most common form affects over 60 million Americans. Osteoarthritis typically effects people who are 35 years of age and older. As a person becomes older, the pain appears after years of wear and tear on the joints between the bones, which is why it is called the 'degenerative joint disease'. Due to the repeated movement and weight upon the joint, the cartilage begins to break down causing inflammation and pain. Because of the nature of the problem, symptoms become worse and worse over time with use of joints. Normally, it begins at the knees and works its way up to the hips, fingers, spine and more (typically any joint bearing weight or strain).

Does this sound like you and your experience?
If so, there is hope to treat it and actually rebuild the cartilage between the joints.

Stop Taking Medication

Medication and treatment varies from patient to patient, and is often a band-aid for the ailment. Let me explain! Doctors often prescribe expensive medications for the sufferer to hide the pain. The problem with hiding the pain is that the degeneration of the joint cartilage continues to occur even if the brain does not register the pain because of the meds. As the pain is hidden, the joint becomes more and more damaged and disfigured. The band-aid of medication is simply a remedy for disaster.

But you can start to naturally treat osteoarthritis with your nutrition, vitamins, supplementation and simple exercises. And you can save hundreds to thousands of dollars each year in the process.

Naturally Treat Osteoarthritis with 6 tips!

Researchers have been studying numerous primitive tribes who live solely off the land. Perplexed by their extraordinary health, researchers are studying why these tribes have better health than developed countries? These tribes have documented no heart disease as well as it being unheard of. In fact, members of these communities will work right up to the day of their death (usually around 100 years of age). How could this be? Could it be because members of the community have never eaten a bite of processed food? These natives have NOT eaten one additive in any of their meals. (An average American eats hundreds of additives each day.) In fact, all of their meals are fresh and spoil in weeks if not eaten. And finally, they live an active life. And you can do the same thing... even if you are 70 years YOUNG!

Here is a list of tips to naturally treat osteoarthritis!

1. Did you know that 80% of the world's population is walking around dehydrated? Instead of drinking water we have become consumers of soda, tea, coffee, juices or anything with flavor. Unfortunately, most of these drinks (containing caffeine) cause your body to lose water and create a vicious cycle of dehydration and poor health. As water drains the toxin and impurities of your body, it will also begin to naturally treat the symptoms of osteoarthritis. You should start drinking at least 10-12 tall glasses of water a day.

2. A body flush! Did you know that fasting and flushing the body is biblical. It is actually commanded to routinely fast for spiritual and physical purposes in the Bible. And it will also greatly help you in your struggle. It would be recommended to take a monthly fast (drinking only water or natural juices) to naturally flush the body of arthritic causing alkalines. Your body will thank you!

3. Your nutrition! Your diet is the biggest factor contributing to whether you will struggle or be free of it. A good rule of thumb is to always eat fresh, raw foods with as little of processing as possible. You should be eating as much water-soluble fiber as possible which includes: fresh fruits and raw vegetables.

4. Foods that Hurt! These types of foods will create havoc to your pain and inflammation. Stay away from fast foods, processed foods, sugars and desserts. Do your best at finding healthy foods and you will notice a difference in 2 weeks.

5. Breathing! I know it sounds goofy to focus on your breathing but oxygen heals. And unfortunately, most people are not getting enough of it because of improper posture and stress. To learn some simple breathing exercises you can do at work, please check out our website which will lead you to our step-by-step report.

6. And exercise! If you are serious about treating arthritis; we guarantee that you will be feeling good enough to start exercising in three weeks. And exercise will eventually take stress off of joints by building muscle mass.

What is Your Choice?

Are you serious about treating your osteoarthritis?
Do you want to feel like you are 30 again?
Do you want to know what supplement can actually rebuild your joint cartilage so you feel like a 20 year old?

If you are ready to naturally treat osteoarthritis, please visit our website to see how our step-by-step natural treatment might be a right solution for you. After the initial feelings of despair and helplessness, I resolved to find the best treatments possible in my attempt to understand this complex disease.

"The market in alternative arthritis pain relief therapies is a minefield so beware!"

There are many unscrupulous organisations who claim to have found a cure for rheumatoid arthritis however if this were true then it would be prescribed by conventional medicine. At the moment I do not believe that a cure exists, however there are many very effective treatments.

"I have personally tried and tested all the arthritis pain relief treatments covered in this article."

Physical Treatments

For my birthday a good friend paid for a treatment of 'Daoyin Tao'. The face, head and neck massage made me feel much more relaxed and it helped me release much of my stress. I also had a 'Bowen Treatment' on my whole body and knees. The first time it worked wonderfully and I was raving about it, but the second time it made both my knees swell up like balloons and thump with pain. I put flannels soaked in cider apple vinegar on my knees, holding them in place with cling film: alas! the pain remained. I even booked a 'test drive' on a vibrating bed. I found the vibrating noise disturbing and the vibrations had no effect on the pain in my cramp ridden leg, even when the salesman increased the frequency in a concentrated way on the bottom of my foot. Still, I saved myself £4.000. Instead I still have to use my electric blanket throughout the whole year to warm my muscles and I need a bath in Epsom Salts every morning in order to walk properly and to reduce some of the stiffness and pain.

"I was beginning to realise that finding arthritis pain relief was not going to be easy!"

Aromatherapy Oils

I decided to continue searching within a field I know well: aromatherapy. I picked up my aromatherapy book: The Fragrant Pharmacy by Valerie Ann Worwood and read the whole section on arthritis pain relief treatments, twice. I decided to give it a go. I ordered all the oils and a few others just to make sure. A horsey friend had told me about the miracle of Neem oil, so I ordered some of that as well. The Neem oil definitely helped but, it does stink a bit! It claims to help many problems, including Thrush, Gingevitis and bone disease which causes your teeth to fall out. I found that it definitely helped with my arthritis pain relief and I now take a capsule of Neem every day. The variety of aromatherapy oils have also helped significantly to reduce the pain in my knees.

Diet

I had heard that diet can have an enormous impact on rheumatoid arthritis. There is so much conflicting evidence in this area. I decided to embark on a whole diet change: I gave up coffee, sugar, red meat, root vegetables and citrus fruits. When I had my body stats measured in 1998, I was diagnosed as dehydrated so I decided to drink lots of water. I also tried Green Lipped Mussel extract at great expense bought on the Internet. It claimed miracles, but it did not give me any arthritis pain relief. I did get something else from it though: extremely bad breath!

There is scientific research which states that Rheumatoid Arthritis is one of the symptoms of too high acid levels in the blood and body. The blood has a very narrow temperature range and also a very narrow acidic range, and the body does all it can to compensate. Much of my problems come from an over acidic body and I am trying to stick to alkali raising food in order for my body to heal itself. I paid £20 for Dr Gillian McKeith's Living Food Energy which tasted horrible, but it did give me more energy and it was not acid forming. I also did Gillian McKeith's detox, over 24 hours, but I had not been eating very much prior to that. It did have an effect. I had several bouts of diarrhoea, producing liquid black slurry and a stomping headache. I felt better the next day, so can only assume my body had been full of toxins. The diet did make me feel better and overall I experienced more arthritis pain relief. I continue to follow the principles above but I also do allow occasional excesses: All diet and no fun makes Rose a dull girl!

Footwear

Specialist clothing and in particular footwear have provided me with some arthritis pain relief. Soon after being diagnosed my legs were so swollen that some riding boots I had made to measure were causing me pain. I had worn these boots every day since 1989 and now they no longer fitted round my calves. What's more, after wearing my Celtic sheepskin boots (that help by supporting my feet) my legs had a ridge in them half way down due to water retention and poor circulation. I then bought some Masai Barefoot Technology trainers to take the stress off my joints and they too have had a positive impact. They help with arthritis pain relief through the curved soles which even out the jarring on your knees when walking.

Magnets

During my desperate state I tried another avenue I had heard about and went round to see a friend who sold magnet products. I was totally sceptical. I didn't feel a thing from the bracelet. But WOW, when I went to bed on a magnetic pad I could feel my body pulsing. Almost like someone massaging you. It was amazing! From that day on I could cut down my painkillers. I was still stiff and sore in the morning and it continued to take me a long time to actually stand up, but the agonising cramp that lasted ALL DAY had suddenly disappeared. My husband who has chronic back pain raves about the magnets continuously and there are cases of people who say that their arthritis pain has disappeared completely.

I will try to explain how it works in simple terms (which is all I can do because I am simple too!). The blood needs a certain level of electrolytes, which are liquids that can carry electric charges. The electrolytes' charges can be swapped around to keep the acid level of the blood within a certain range as explained earlier. There are nutritional products available which can supplement these electrolytes. The specially designed magnets influence the charges in the electrolytes increasing their effectiveness. This improves the circulation of the blood (the blood is less 'sticky') and it can flow more easily around the body, including the problem areas of the joints. This in turn reduces the pain.

Summary

In summary, there are many different arthritis pain relief treatments some which work and some which do not. Also, remember that everyone is different and will respond to treatments in different ways. I have found that some of the nutrients, oils and magnetic products described in this article have helped me considerably.
Please respond or visit my website guest book if you know of a product that has helped you. Your joints, remarkable and elaborate hinges, are cushioned by cartilage. They are held together with various other tissues, including muscles and tendons. Lubrication is in the form of some oily goop called synovial fluid, which is released by the synovial lining of the joints. If you have osteoarthritis, the kind that most frequently coincides with aging, the cartilage around the joints starts to thin down or disappear. That is not your fault. What's more, it is not always preventable, either. The runner-up, rheumatoid arthritis, is far less common, more mysterious, and equally pain producing. Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease. Therefore, here are some ways that you can use to prevent such disease.

1. Move These Joints

To keep the pain of arthritis from getting an even tighter grip on you, get yourself on an exercise program. If you are over 60, start with low-impact aerobic activities such as 20-minute walks or exercises in a swimming pool at least three or four times per week. Any aerobic exercise program should be matched to your physical capacity. If a person has been inactive for a period of time, then start with something like a five-minute walk in a couple of times per week, and then slowly start to increase your distance as you feel more comfortable.

2. Pepper Yourself

You may not like hot peppers on your sandwich, but you might like hot-pepper cream for arthritis relief. Capsaicin cream, made from the active ingredient in hot peppers, has been shown in studies to ease arthritis pain when used regularly. You can buy this cream over the counter. Follow instructions on the label, wash your hands thoroughly after application, and keep this stuff away from your eyes and other mucous membranes. It can really burn.

3. Ease The Burden

Arthritis gets worse more rapidly in overweight individuals. If you lose 5 to 10 pounds, it considerably lightens the load on all of your weight-bearing joints - hips, knees, ankles, and feet.

4. Vary Your Terrain

Walking is always recommended but it is important to not get into a rut. If you walk the same exact path every day, then you are landing on the same part of your foot each and every day and you are putting stress on your knees and hips the exact same way every day. For the sake of interest as well as exercise, seek out new terrain like hills, fields, and pathways as well as flat road or sidewalk.

5. Ask For Alternative Oils

If you are not a fish-eater, you should pay a visit to the nearest health food store. Look for either evening primrose oil, flaxseed oil, or fish oil. All contain the same omega-3 fatty acids found in cold-water fish. If you take one teaspoon of any of these each day, it may lightly ease some of the inflammatory aspects of arthritis. If you decide to take capsules, follow the manufacturer's instructions on the label.

6. Try A Cold Pack

If you have swelling, especially after any physical activity, put some ice with a thin towel wrapped around it on the area around the affected joint. Ice the area for 15 to 20 minutes after exercise to reduce the discomfort and also minimize the amount of swelling.

7. Give Yourself A Hot Wax

A hot-wax treatment can provide soothing relief if your hands are aching from arthritis. The treatment is available at many hospitals, but it is less expensive to treat yourself at home. A professional therapist should instruct on its appropriate use before you try this at home. For a hot-wax treatment kit, call an orthopedic supply store to check availability. Heat the wax in the heating unit, apply it to your hands, and wrap them in plastic gloves for 10 minutes. You should feel some relief. The beauty of the at-home hot-wax treatment is that the wax can be reused for several weeks. Just be careful when you are using it around children.
Raymond Lee Geok Seng is one of the foremost experts in the health and fitness industry and is a writer specializing in body health, muscle development and dieting. The problem with the foot is that it consists of 28 bones and 30 joints, of which any are susceptible to arthritis. If arthritis develops in any of these joints, its going to affect the way you walk, run and move in general. The joints in the foot which are more commonly affected are: the big toe, the ankle, the mid foot and the hind foot joint.

The most common form of arthritis which develops in the foot is osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is the result of getting older, and essentially wear and tear on the joints and cartilage. The cartilage wears down, and the bones rub together resulting in pain and swelling.

Traumatic arthritis is a common form of osteoarthritis that develops in the foot of a patient following some form of severe injury. This can develop in the foot even when the injury was treated correctly, and given time to recover fully. The most common forms of traumatic foot arthritis are a torn ligament, broken bone or severe sprain.

There are various symptoms and indications of foot arthritis, which should alert the sufferer to the condition immediately. These symptoms include swelling, tenderness, pain, stiffness and reduced mobility of the affected joint. All these symptoms will eventually lead to a difficulty in walking.

For a doctor to properly diagnose foot arthritis, a serious of tests and physical examinations will need to be performed. The doctor will also require information about your health and lifestyle to give clues on the complexity of the condition. The next step is to perform a walking analysis. In performing this walking analysis, the doctor will measure your stride and test your ankle and foot strength. Certain diagnostic imaging tests may also be required to further diagnose your condition- theses may include and X-Ray, CT or MRI scan.

After fully evaluating your foot arthritis, your doctor/physician will devise the most suitable treatment plan. There are many non-surgical treatments available, these include:

Taking anti-inflammatory medication

Steroid injection

Foot brace or cane usage

Ankle and foot support usage

Physical therapy

The final treatment option is surgery, and is generally reserved as a 'last resort' when all other treatment methods have failed. The key to effectively treating arthritis is early diagnosis. Don't ignore those sensations of stiffness and soreness; see a doctor as soon as possible, so that you have the best chance of treating your foot arthritis.
Want further information on arthritis treatment and pain relief?
