Amelia And The Animals: Photographer Mom Captures Daughter’s Love For Animals

Since she was 3 years old, Amelia has been posing with animals both exotic and common in an extraordinary photo series called Amelia and the Animals. The photographer behind the series, Robin Schwartz, is also the model’s mom!

The first photo in the book, taken in 2002, features a 3-year-old Amelia and a chimp named Ricky. Schwartz told the Telegraph that a book of chimpanzee photos she published in 1993, Like Us: Primate Portraits, had put her in contact with some “chimp people” who in turn helped open doors to access other exotic animals, like the elephants and tiger cubs that Amelia has also posed with.

Schwartz writes that her daughter is a natural around animals, showing “enormous fortitude and ingenuity in relating to each individual animal with kindness and respect” and exhibitng a calming effect on them.

Children's relationships with animals and with each other are free of many of the misconceptions and unfounded fears that can infect our minds later in life. It is this innocence that Elena Karneeva, a professional child and family photographer based in Moscow, captures in her beautiful photos of children and animals.

The children in each image seem to great the animals posing together with them as friends, rather than as dumb beasts or as food. The dogs, pigs, goats and other critters inspire beautiful rural images that remind us of another Russian photographer as well – Elena Shumilova.

Fairy Meadows Gilgit PAKISTAN. Fairy Meadows named by German Tourists and Mountain Climbers, Fairyy Land Meadows and by regional standards known as Joot, is a meadow close to one of the base camping areas of the Nanga Parbat, placed in Diamer District, Gilgit-Baltistan. At an elevation of around 3300 meters over the ocean level, it serves as the starting point for trekkers summiting on the Rakhiot face of the Nanga Parbat. In 1995, the Government of Pakistan announced Fairy Meadows a National. fairy Meadows has been a wellspring of charm since long for hikers, climbers, natural life analysts, picture takers, painters & geologists, other than nature darlings. The pine woodlands evading Fairy Meadows are maybe one of the virgin woods in the north of Pakistan, and are home to various types of winged creatures and untamed life. The site disregards the Raikot Glacier and gives a grand perspective of the North Face of Nanga Parbat, ordinarily known as the Raikot Face.

The meadow is encompassed by thick snow capped forest. Mushrooms are known as fast-growing organisms, especially quickly popping up after the rain. Given the pace of their growth, which is difficult to capture with a human eye, it‘s incredibly interesting to witness the changes of fungi in these mesmerizing time-lapse gifs.

These timelapses show the surprising power of mushroom buds, as they burst through the soil and elegantly expand their caps. What we see on the surface, though, is only a part of organism, called mushroom fruit. The fruit is a short-lived reproductive structure, consisting 92% of water (hence the speed of growth). Meanwhile, mycelium of the mushroom sits and sprouts from the soil. This part, in contrast to the fruit, can live for years.

Just because a character has been around forever doesn’t mean there aren’t new ways to reimagine it. Damon Hellandbrand, a talented artist based in the U.S., has created a series of images that portray the symbols of the zodiac as twisted, surreal creatures straight out of a nightmarish realm.

Hellandbrand does much of his art with various digital illustration programs, but some are born as pencil drawings or watercolors – or “basically whatever medium I’m in the mood for.” He writes that he is inspired by artists like Ralph McQuarrie, Boris Vallejo and Frank Frazetta, and it’s easy to imagine that Guillermo Del Toro might number among his influences as well. I Paint Weed Murals That Slowly Take Over The City (Gifs+Video)

I’m inspired by the resilience of weeds. I look for them in the cracks of the sidewalks near the walls I’m about to paint, and then I portray them at a scale that is certainly bigger than the attention we pay them.

“Weeds” is the bad name given to plants found in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’m reclaiming that name, as being a weed has little to do with a plant’s intrinsic value: in the streets I find invasive species as well as benign wildflowers; medicinal herbs and plants of no use to us at all. I find them beautiful regardless, and I paint them all.

That is why I created some of these murals as on-site animations: to let the paintings not just BE, but ACT like weeds! To do this, I paint each stem and leaf in 1cm increments, photographed over hours and days. You can see the resulting video on my link below.

I use natural materials to create different kind of land art installations. Every piece of my art slowly dissolves back into nature and disappears.

For me it is great joy to work with the landscape and learn natural laws like: “nothing lasts forever”, “action – reaction” and “gravity rules”.

How Do School Lunches Around The World Look?

It’s important that growing children eat healthy, but judging by the appearances of some school lunches out there, it doesn’t seem like schools like to deliver the goods. But with the help of her dad and the Sweetgreen restaurant chain, 12-year-old Scottish schoolgirl Martha Payne released a series of school lunch comparisons from countries around the world on her blog, where she reviews the school lunches she and others eat.

From a US or UK perspective, the school lunches in many other countries seem mouth-wateringly fresh and varied. The lunches from Brazil and South Korea especially stood out for their delicious-looking variety. In other countries, unfortunately, lunch ladies have earned reputations as distributors of foul, toxic concoctions.

What started as an inside joke between co-workers has become one of the funniest Instagram accounts around. Social Media Manager Dana Herlihey couldn’t resist creating an Instagram profile for the Halloween skeleton she and her coworkers used to prank each other. Three months after her first post she’s still posing and photographing Skellie and crafting her personality.

Herlihey’s favourite adventure with Skellie has so far been her trip to see Santa. While waiting for an hour in line kids laughed at the skeleton, and played hide and seek.

THE UNLIKELY FRIENDSHIP OF A DOG AND AN OWL

I wouldn’t have believed that an owl and a dog could become best friends until I saw these surprising and adorable photos by Tanja Brandt, a professional animal photographer and collage artist in Germany. Ingo the shepherd dog and Poldi the little owl seem more than happy to cozy up to each other for photoshoots bathed in golden evening light.

If you like these photos, be sure to visit Brandt’s site, because Ingo has a whole lot of beautiful friends, be they other shepherds or other fierce birds of prey besides Poldi. Brandt creates animal photos and collages professionally, so she seems to have a lot of cooperative models to work with!

PHILIPPE ECHAROUX USES LIGHT PROJECTIONS TO CREATE STREET ART IN FRANCE

Philippe Echaroux is a French photographer and street artist born in 1983.

He invented the concept of Street Art 2.0 with his project, named “Paintings with lights”, and kicked-off in his home city of Marseille in March, 2014. 2 weeks later and his project created the buzz in 44 countries.

Philippe’s street art is not leaving any prints on locations he uses to exhibit his art, playing with his favorite tool: light. The beauty of his art is therefore ephemeral.

200-METER-LONG EARTH SCULPTURE OF PONY PAYS TRIBUTE TO ANIMAL MINE WORKERS

Sultan the Pit Pony is a breathtaking 200-meter-long raised-earth sculpture in Parc Penalta, South Wales. This sculpture, created by Wales-based artist Mick Petts, is the largest earth sculpture in United Kingdom. It has become a significant visitor destination, with paths and scenic viewpoints offering beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

It all began in 1996, when Petts was commissioned to design a landform to shelter the events area of Parc Penallta from prevailing winds. It took 3 years and 60,000 tons of coal shale to construct this landform, which symbolizes the final release of the pit ponies used in the local mining industry.

Pit ponies were used by the local mining industry for two centuries to haul tubs of coal. The last animal-miner retired in 1999. As soon as the sculpture was completed, locals nicknamed it “Sultan” after a prize-winning pony from Penallta Pit.

I Photograph Abandoned Buildings During My Travels Across Europe

As far as I can remember, I have always been fascinated by abandoned places, so there’s no surprise that after a few childhood explorations, I decided to take a camera with me to bring back memories of my trips.

I started giving more and more importance to the place I was shooting to get the satisfaction of perfectly capturing the spirit of the spot I was visiting. It has been nearly three years now that I travel around Europe to find and capture these amazing locations. From communists relics in Bulgaria or Hungary to the incredible villas and palaces in Italy passing by the tremendous factories and power plants in France or Belgium, I try to grasp the esthetic beauty that emerge from the chaos of decay.

I love when nature takes over human constructions which creates a unique and unreal atmosphere. It puts in perspective our presence on earth and remind us that we are only passers-by. For me, it’s like traveling in time. Every room is special and have its own history.

The Cuddle Clones toy company makes custom plush-toy replicas of pets from photos sent in by their clients.

The company’s founder, Jennifer Graham, came up with the idea for custom plushies when hanging out with her Great Dane, Rufus. When he passed away in 2009, she finally created a stuffed-animal replica, and now other users have also started memorializing their pets with Cuddle Clones. Of course, two heads are better than one – you can get a plushie if your pet is perfectly healthy as well!
