The story is equally amusing:

It’s hard to say what stands out — the whole movie was just such a pleasure to do.

There’s something about Portland news in general. The evening news is like watching the news for a town of 400 people. I never understood how it could be so bad for a decent sized city. But this definitely takes the cake, nice find Sam.

So excited to read the new/final Scott Pilgrim. If you aren’t familiar with the site, the premise is to ask for your last pint what would it be? where would it be? would you eat? with whom?

My Last Pint is awfully morbid, yet very interesting to read (or watch, sometimes there is video). As for me…

What would you drink?
I would stretch the rules of last pint a bit and say I would want 5, 4 oz glasses filled with Deschutes’ Abyss from the last 5 years. I can’t think of a more fitting way to walk through the past and after 20 ounces of the Abyss I would probably just fall asleep anyway and who doesn’t want to go that way?

Where would it be?
This is a tough one. I’ve lived in so many places, but if I get to choose anywhere I think I would pick Vancouver, BC in the summer. I would find a nice secluded spot in Stanley Park, maybe overlooking the Lions Gate Bridge (donated by the Guiness family ya know?).

What would you eat?
I would go for a nice picnic of cheese, bread, fruits, and nuts. There are too many good choices here, it could be a whole other article. Suffice it to say I would head to a Whole Foods or a local cheese shop and just go crazy. Then I would pair it with some good fresh crusty bread and some hood strawberries…sorry, this is supposed to be about beer.

Who would you be with?
Man, this question makes this exercise tough. It’s all beer and food and wonderful places and then bam you have to choose the last people alive with you that you are going to leave behind. So I will take more license and assume this is in the future after my kid(s) have grown up. I would take my amazing wife and our dog (yes, he would somehow still be alive) on a cross country road trip and up the coast visiting family and friends. Cap it off in Stanley Park and enjoy the view. We would, of course, have to go at the same time since I have a deal with my wife that she has to die first, I think the same time would be equally acceptable.

Wow, I never realized just how dark the my last pint blog is until I took to answering the questions myself. Still it’s certainly an interesting exercise. Anyone else brave enough to answer the questions? That’s what comments and google buzz are for!

The Top Idea in Your Mind

The Top Idea in Your Mind:

I’ve found I can to some extent avoid thinking about nasty things people have done to me by telling myself: this doesn’t deserve space in my head. I’m always delighted to find I’ve forgotten the details of disputes, because that means I hadn’t been thinking about them. My wife thinks I’m more forgiving than she is, but my motives are purely selfish.

I like the idea presented in this article. Try and keep the things that are interesting and important at the front of your mind, don’t get bogged down in unresolvable issues.

The first rule of Ferris Club…

This is my Flipboard.

That’s what I’m calling this little video I made to demonstrate the elegance and ingenuity of a new iPad app called Flipboard. I think you’ll agree, it looks nice. I also think you’ll find, once you download the app, that it feels amazing.

Here’s the effect it’s had on me in my couple of months using it in beta: I tend not to follow too many people on Twitter for the content they share, and in a typical Twitter client, I tend to gloss over links and images. Flipboard gives me such a nice way to read this stuff, I use it as an auxiliary client, just for the linked content. Turns out there’s some interesting stuff hidden behind all those ugly short URLs and yfrogs.

Big thanks to the talented and illustrious Peter Atencio for his work behind the lens, and to my handsome and kindhearted nephew Wes who knows how to swing.

I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately that it would be neat to have a feed reader that would allow you to flip through the articles as they are displayed on their source pages. There are quite a few blogs I read that have beautiful layout that is completely mangled and turned into plain text in an RSS feed. From what I can tell in this video this application is very close to what I envisioned, only it takes it to the next level by creating “feeds” out of links from social networks. I guess this means I have to keep saving for my iPad 2.0.

Sitting is bad for you, even with exercise

Sitting is bad for you, even with exercise:
Well, I’m screwed.

WTF?

WTF?

Bad Connection: Inside the iPhone Network Meltdown

Bad Connection: Inside the iPhone Network Meltdown:
“We’re Apple. As young hellions we would pick it, tear off the elephant-ear leaves (which are mildly poisonous) and dip the stalks in sugar to eat. That fibrous green tang remains one of my Proustian tastes of summer. Nowadays I have to buy my rhubarb at the greengrocer, but even at three bucks a pound I consider it a grand find and pounce while I can. I wish I could preserve the taste for the rest of the year, but I’m not a jam maker. So recently I decided to try my hand at making a drinking syrup with it.”

-
Case Study | Rhubarb Syrup - T Magazine Blog - NYTimes.com

Recently some friends looked at me like I was on crack when I mentioned eating raw rhubarb dipped in sugar. Apparently I’m not alone in this childhood delight.

Vatican Issues New Rules on Responding to Sex Abuse

Vatican Issues New Rules on Responding to Sex Abuse:

In a move that infuriated victims’ groups and put United States bishops on the defensive, it also codified “the attempted ordination of women” to the priesthood as one of the church’s most grave crimes, along with heresy, schism and pedophilia.

…

It does not contain measures to hold bishops accountable for abuse by priests on their watch, nor does it require mandatory reporting of sex abuse to civil authorities even in countries where it is not required by civil law.

Clearly the church has its priorities straight.

ACL Fest 2010 Schedule is Live

ACL Fest 2010 Schedule is Live:
Time to start resolving the conflicts!

Here is my first stab at picks…yeah lots of conflicts. I feel like there are more good bands this year than I remembered.

What are your picks?

If you’ve ever wanted to start a business, work for...

If you’ve ever wanted to start a business, work for yourself, or just break out of what you are currently doing go buy Rework (or get it from the library). This book will motivate you to start something, do something, but most importantly, not be content with the status quo. It’s quick, to the point, and just plain interesting. You may know the authors from 37signals where they created a little thing called Ruby on Rails. But don’t be deterred if you’re not a geek, I feel like there is something for everyone. Anyway, maybe I’m over selling it, but I really enjoyed it and maybe you will too. I’m off to figure out what project I want to start.
