How to Apply PMA membership

Hi! Really a lot of missing in action for the past months, I've just started a youtube channel: Artsy Med Youtube and it's taking a lot of my time, and I'm just in the process of adjusting and deciding if I can do both youtube and blogging.

So anyways enough of the excuses, we'll start with what this post is all about. So you've graduated, either from Med school or from residency. The next step is to apply for membership in PMA (Philippine Medical Association). This is for NEW membership by the way.

The first thing that you need to do is:

1. Call the PMA main office: (632) 929-7361; 926-2447; 929-6366 and inquire that you would like to apply for new membership. The secretary will tell you where to apply and submit your requirements.

Side comment: Don't be like me hahaha, I went to the PMA building main office at North Avenue and I ended up wasting my time, traffic as well since they won't accept. I have to apply to the satellite office, meaning to the pma office near where you would practice or near where you live.

2. After you've known where to submit your requirements, you ask for the contact number and contact person of the "satellite" pma.

3. Call that number.... and ask for the requirements and also ask when is the oath-taking time and day and if you could do that also on the same day.

If graduating from residency: Also ask them, that you're not sure if you're a member during graduation ceremony. (I have a colleague, whom he didn't know that he was already a member since graduation, and ended up paying for a fine.)

Side comment: Why? because some ask for 2x2 picture, some passport size pictures, now you would not want your precious money and picture go to waste... because now you're basically "unemployed"!

As for the oath-taking, para di ka na babalik, hassle kasi.

4. Prepare your requirements:

2 copies of either 2x2 or passport size or 1x1 pictures, whatever the satellite office said
Money: I paid for Php 2,768 membership fee
Original PRC id
Take note also for the following dates:

year graduated in medicine
residency or fellowship inclusive dates

5. Go to your "satellite" PMA office and fill out the forms and pay for the necessary fees.

If you want to apply for Philhealth as healthcare provider, also tell the satellite office that you want certificate of good standing from PMA.

Side comment: Don't fill out the downloadable form from PMA website, they didn't accept my filled out printed form either. So just fill out there nalang.

6. Oath-taking in the satellite office on the scheduled date and time.

7. You will receive your PMA id and pins and other papers and stuff. Keep the receipts because you will be needing this if you are to apply certificate of good standing.

8. If you're going to apply for certificate of good standing, you need to go to PMA main office at North Avenue, and bring your receipts to get the certificate for Philhealth. If you're not going to get certificate, you're done!

Hadanomy Collagen Mist - First Impressions

I was excited to try this pink facial mist. Anyways, I can't think of much of an intro right now, since I got a lot on my mind lately.

Packaging	Plastic transluscent pink bottle (250 mL) It has pink spray nozzle with pink cap
Smell	Lychee ?? You can't smell it once you spray it on your face though
Consistency	Watery
Application	When you spray it, it feels kind of concentrated, it does not spread like the usual face mist, where it's thin. It feels sticky though when it dries on your skin, so you need to put powder or another product on top of it. I don't like the sticky feeling though.... maybe just my personal preference.

MISTI Dupe

When I saw the MISTI stamping tool on youtube, I was really amazed by it! I mean the one who invented it is a genius! Finally a tool that solves a problem in stamping, doubling or shadowing of the image when you try to stamp it again.

Unfortunately, this amazing tool is not available in the Philippines. So I searched for a dupe and I found this. This idea is not mine, I saw this in youtube from another crafter. But hey, this is something I could find here.

This tool actually cost me only Php 100.

The materials you will need:

Acrylic folder case (preferably transparent/translucent)
Old magazine
Post-it Tape
Clear Rubber Stamp
Stamp Pad
Tape

1. Make sure you're magazine can fit in your acrylic folder case. I'm using A4 size acrylic case here and the magazine is about letter size (8.5 x 11 inch). (I got my acrylic case from Japan Home Center for Php 88)

2. Put some tape onto the 4 corners of your magazine.

3. Then stick it to your acrylic case.

4. To place your paper / cardstock, you need to attach it using sticky note tape. (I got mine in Miniso for Php 119 for 2 pieces)

5. Place your clear stamp on to the part your paper you want it placed.

6. Close your acrylic case, the flat end of the clear stamp will stick to the cover of your acrylic case.

7. Open your acrylic case and ink your stamp.

8. When you're happy with your inking,

9. Close the acrylic case again and press the stamp onto the paper.

10. And you get this stamp image! If the result turned blotchy or patchy, you can reink again and go back again and stamp on the exact same spot.

Tip: Make sure the magazine is in place and does not move around your acrylic case, this reduces the chances that the image will double-lined when you stamp multiple times.

Craft fails:

I had 2 failed stamping: meaning double-lined result with this dupe, that's relatively ok for its price and readily available materials.

Senka Perfect Whip Collagen In - First Impressions

This is I think the version of Shiseido Perfect Whip for those who have sensitive skin. I cannot comment if it really is hypoallergenic since my skin is not that sensitive. When I bought this I did not think it was for sensitive skin, I bought this for the pink tube actually.

Packaging

This has a pink plastic tube with white cover at the bottom. Like the blue version, the plastic of this is soft and pliable so easy to squeeze the product out.

Smell

Lovely floral scent similar to the blue one, but this has a milder scent and less obvious.

Consistency

Looks like regular consistency of usual facial wash. I used the foam dispenser to foam this up. Here's how to use the foam dispenser:

Application

The foam feels like putting cloud on your face, this is a vey satisfying feeling. It doesn't dry your skin after washing either.

Makeup Remover Test:

Although this is not marketed really mainly as a makeup remover, I still used it as a makeup remover, well because it's important to know you know.

Here, I tried removing my makeup without using a makeup remover. Makeup used in the picture are: Innisfree Eyebrow pencil, Colourpop Disney Princess Collection Eyeshadow, Loveliner Liquid Eyeliner, Heroinemake Waterproof Long and Curl Mascara, Laneige BB cushion, The Saem Perfect Tip Concealer, Benefit Dandelion Highlighter, Ever Bilena Kris Liquid Lipstick, Fasio Powder Blush.

It was able to remove probably 70% of my makeup, which I like, of course I think makeup remover then this as a second step is still the best option.

February 2019 Empties

I’ve been posting less makeup related blog posts. I’ve been trying to use up the products I bought before before venturing on buying a new product. This is my little way of helping out the environment, buy buying less new products and wait until the previous one is used up before opening a new one.

Laneige Sleeping Mask (Lavender) - This is similar to the original one (blue), the performance is the same. So the main reason if you will buy this is if you like the smell of lavender. I opened this last 10/12/17 and I just finished this this month. I’m not an everyday user though, around 3 times a week.
Peripera Airy Ink Velvet - This is my favorite brand of lip tint. In fact I opened this last 5/12/17 and it’s 2019 already. I couldn’t bear to throw it last year since it was so good. But since it’s 2 years already, I don’t like the more dry or cakey texture already, so I had to throw this already. You can check my previous review here.
Senka Perfect Whip Facial Wash - At long last! This got all used up!!! Don’t get me wrong, this is really a great product. In fact a little goes a long way. I opened this last September 2017. I was just excited to try a new product which is why I was so relieved when I’ve finally used this up. Here's my first impressions and review here.
Shiseido Sunblock - This one is lightweight, and very travel-friendly, compact size. There’s a metal ball inside that you can hear when you shake it. This is SPF-50, it’s smooth as well, doesn’t affect how your makeup sits. The main con I have for this is the “alcohol” smell of this.
Nyx Concealer - The preformance of this started to decline that I had to throw this already after 6-7 months upon opening. The product got cakey so this is true to its claim it’s best before 6 months upon opening. First impressions review here.
Heroinemake Brown Eyeliner - This is one of my favorite brand of eyeliner. I couldn’t remomber how many I used already, in black.
Mumuso Eyebrow Pencil - this is smooth, blendable, love the soft bristels of the brush. I opened this last 9/29/18.
Moonshot Cream Paint LIghtfit - I love this product, in fact like the Peripera, I didn’t throw this away last 2018, despite opening it 11/15/17. The reason why I threw this now is because the smell is different already. First impressions review here.
Heimish Dailism Eye Palette - I love this!!! But this reached 1 year already, I would definitely buy this again. My first impressions review here.
Tombow Pitt Glue Tape - I’m slowly incorporating some stationery products in this blog, since crafting is one of my love anyways. This is cmpact, easy to travel with, there’s slide cover so it won’t stick everywhere when you’re not using it. I never had a problem with the mechanism of this glue tape. A perfect score of 5/5 from me.

Achieving the Dream: Take Me Back to Michael's

Since med school days, I've always wanted to be able to visit this store. I came to know about it since grade school days, I've watched American craft shows and this store is always mentioned to where you can get your materials and supplies.

As a kid, I've always wished there's something like this one in the Philippines, actually there was one before, I think the name was Craft World, I would go to Robinson's Galleria and SM Megamall just to go to that store. Sadly it closed down already.

Actually I did not dream of going to Michael's until med school days. I mean, in gradeschool and high school days, I never fully posted or put into words that I wanted to visit Michael's store. My desire to visit the place started 2012, med school days. I posted in social media that I wanted to visit it someday and I wanted something like this in the Philippines.

So last May 2018, when I visited San Francisco, I made it a point to include this in my itinerary. We checked in a hotel in Union Square, and the branch closest was in Emeryville. So using Moovit app and uber, we were able to reach this place.

I was really happy and with a feeling of accomplishment when I reached the storefront. And when I entered the store, OMG! I was in Craft Heaven!!!! I never thought there were so much types of crafts in the world. Everything is just there! It's "THE ONE"-stop shop for your craft needs.

There's just this overwhelming joy I can't fully explain. I bought lots of paper crafts there. I would have bought some needle-felting also if only I did not restrain myself. If only I was not worried of having our luggages overweight, I would have bought some craft tools as well.

I loved that there were soccer-related stuffs there, I just hoarded!!! Right now, I haven't used all of it, little by little, tinitipid since it was a really long way there and my 1st time shopping there.

Hope I can achieve more of my dreams. Dreams are not just for the your younger self, not just in the Disney movies and cartoons. Even if you're already in Med school you can still dream and even if it took me 6 years I was able to achieve it nevertheless. And this feeling of achievement is just irreplaceable.

Love Liner Liquid Eyeliner

I have to admit, I bought this just solely for the cute packaging. I got this from my trip in Japan. I'm not familiar with this brand, but since there's sanrio and kuromi is in one of the colors, I couldn't resist.

Packaging	As I said before, the packaging was the reason I bought this. See? Don't you just love the box???? It's so cute!!! This is a great gift/pasalubong by the way. But I was really amazed when I removed the eyeliner from the box, as in my initial reaction was "WOW" The body itself is in color of rose gold chrome (is that a color?). It looks soooo high end and luxurious!!! It's very elegant, as in when you bring this to let people see you're applying eyeliner, hindi ka mahihiya ialalabas mo to. There's a ball inside which you can shake. And the cap closes the product with a click, very high quality feeling as well. And I would like to focus on the body of the pen, the detail! This is a brush tip type of eyeliner
Smell	chemical scent but not overpowering

Swatch	Dark Brown
Application	The brush is soft, I like it's gentle on my eyelids. The product also applies smoothly with one stroke only needed. It's opaque as well. It's extremely waterproof. The swatch in my hand lasted for 2 days with regular baths and washing of hands. I like the shade of brown of this, because it's not too loud and not too light, just the right amount of "pop" when you go to work but not overpowering.

Innisfree Auto Eyebrow Pencil - Review

I got this as a gift (Pasalubong) from one of my co-resident when he went to Korea. My brain is just drained to make a longer intro hahaha.

Packaging	White plastic body pen, white cover as well. It has 2 ends, one end with brush and one end with the eyebrow pencil. You can twist the pencil up and down. The shape of the pencil is oval in shape.
Smell	none
Swatch	I got the shade brown
Application	This has a very smooth application. With one stroke, it's kind of light, so you have to apply several layers to build up the color. In other words, it's buildable hehe. The brush is so soft that it doesn't hurt my skin when brushing my eyebrow hair. It also lasted with me for around 12 hours. It has this amount of product, sorry I didn't measure it.

Creative Journaling

I've been journaling since I was in college, actually I think even as early as high school. I love buying cute notebooks and I write my diary using different colored pens. There was actually a point in time when I went into depression and thanks to our college guidance counselor, she suggested journaling as a way for one to get out of depression. I also had a dream journal. During that time wherein I would write what happened in my dream and would interpret them.

Last year, I came across "creative journaling" wherein people were adding drawings, paints, watercolor into their journals. Then there was also kawaii journaling wherein you add cute or "kawaii" stuffs into your journal such as stickers, papers, postcards, stamps etc. It's like scrapbooking minus the rules and regulations of layout. I was hesitant at first because there were these doubts such as: not artistic enough, I can't draw, it's tedious, it's expensive and do I have the time? etc, etc, etc....

Then I said, "The heck! Why not just try it on some extra notebook I have and check if it will work on me.

It may seem intimidating because if you see these journals in the internet, they were "AMAZING!!" But what's wonderful with this is, it's your personal journal, whatever makes you happy, there are no rules, you just release your creativity in whatever way you want.

So how to get started?

Materials you will need are:

Notebook - there are different types:

lined

dotted
blank
grid

Pens, Highlighters
Stickers, Post-it Notes, Washi Tape

So what to write about?

Just write your heart away. You can start with writing what happened to you that day for starters.

How to put/design?

It doesn't matter if you put all the stickers first or you put them while you are writing. I do a little bit of both. I started with writing then placing stickers as I go along.

Where to buy stickers?

I bought mine in National Bookstore, The Common Room, Miniso and most of the time through Shopee.

What pens?

I use M&G pens (only Php 9.00!!!), Muji pens, Pilot pens

What if I make a mistake?

You can use correction tape or just cover it with a sticker and no one will ever suspect it.

Below are just some examples of from my own journal.

This is the journal I'm using right now, it's a soft-bound notebook I got years before (bought out of impulse). This has blank pages, and I think I bought this for Php 100+.

I'm the type who doesn't have any talent in calligraphy, so I just buy stickers and washi tapes with calligraphy in it, and just stick it in the notebook. It gives you that aesthetic feel of calligraphy in your journal page.

Vision Board Works

I first read about vision boards last 2016. At first I thought it to be interesting, but I didn't get to do something like it until the midyear of 2017. I said I would like to try this out if this works. I made this vision board last 2017. I thought since I was depressed during that time due to my illness, I thought I have to make something positive to fight the sadness and negative thoughts, and I set this vision board effective for 1 year.

So what is a vision board? Well in my simple mind, you find pictures or texts or quotes, whatever you think can represent your dreams and goals.

Here is my vision board for the year 2018. So let me exlplain my goals for 2018.

Number 1 in-service - top most part
Go to Japan and wear kimono - upper left
Attend AUA 2018 in San Francisco - upper right
Go to Korea and wear hanbok - upper right below the AUA logo
Go to Japan - lower right
Get accepted in Neurourology fellowship (ICS-accredited program)

Let's start with the first one:

1. Number 1 in in-service - Well sadly, I didn't achieve this, in fact this was my lowest score so far in my own list of in service exam grades. Although I wouldn't actually label this as a complete failure. Something so horrible happened during the month of the in-service exams. I was crushed really and it was like my world fell apart. I almost lost the one I love, someone who was always there for me, someone whom is the only one I can talk to fully of all my problems, complaints and negative thoughts. I was actually expecting to fail the in service exams, because I was really shaken, couldn't focus and it felt like all I studied just vanished. And I still passed the in service exams, so I think in a way the vision board really helped me this time.

2. Go to Japan and wear Kimono - I was particular in wearing a kimono in Japan specifically, because you can always rent out costumes here in the Philippines. But I said when I go to Japan, I would wear a kimono. And I was able to achieve this last April 2018.

3. Attend AUA 2018 - this was held in San Francisco. I was lucky the research paper I passed was accepted for presentation.

4. Go to Korea and Wear Hanbok - Going to Korea was kind of tricky this year. There were 3 attempts/opportunity to go to Korea this year, but did not push through. I was about to give up actually on my aspiration to go to Korea, thinking, "maybe by Divine Intervention, I'm not supposed to go to Korea this year." Until the 4th opportunity came! I was actually recommended by PUA to attend the KUA in Seoul just last month. Maybe everything just happens for a reason and at the right time also.

5. Go to Japan - with the help of UAA, I was able to go to Kyoto last April. Since one of research papers was accepted for presentation in UAA 2018. Now I understand why a lot of people would like to go back to Japan. I would love to too!

6. Get accepted in Neurourology Fellowship (ICS-accredited) - well this one, I was not able to get this year, well partly my fault also since I wasn't looking either and did not send out applications for fellowship. I think I was kind of confused yet right now. Ever since the event I told you in the 1st vision happened, my paradigm changed a lot actually. So I'm still deciding on what to do.

So here's wrap up of the effectivity of a vision board: 4 out of 6 was achieved. So am I recommending it? Yes! Because you've got nothing to lose and so much to gain!

How I did my vision board:

I got a 12 x 12 scrapbook paper (I have lots of this, and I want something I can just tape in my wall.)
I searched for the pictures that represent my vision and printed it out.
Pasted it in the 12 x 12 scrapbook paper.
Post your vision board in an area in your room where you can easily and always see it.

Toxic Duty Myths

You can hear these myths the moment you start your clinical clerkship rotation. Endorsements from nurses, previous clerks, interns, residents. And this usually is carried on until you graduate from residency.

These are myths, some believe in them, some don't, some really applies to them. I recently asked for these myths in social media, and these are so far the response I got.

1. Pancit / Noodles

This was actually applicable to me in my clerkship and internship days, once you eat pancit or noodles, toxicity during duty will follow.

2. Spaghetti

Maybe I should include this in the pancit and noodles? But anyways don't eat spaghetti during duty! Kung ayaw mong magsisi ka.

3. Wearing Red

And this just doesn't apply to tops, this includes underwear as well. Although this doesn't apply to me, there are some who swears by this.

4. Studying during duty
Well this one really applies to me, from clerkship to residency. It all started when I was in my clerkship rotation at the emergency room and I tried to open the Baby Schwartz, then 10 minutes later we had an emergency surgery, mangled foot by a truck. So this is particularly true for me.

5. Doing something totally not related to duty
This includes doing research work, (doing blogs for me), doing some administrative errands.

6. Dirty Living
This has many interpretation, like binge-drinking the night before and etc etc. There's even an expression, "Nagdirty-living ka kagabi no?"

7. When you are told "Be Benign"
This was suggested by one of colleagues and swears most of the time really happens.

8. Verbally expressing the desire for a not-toxic duty.

9. KTV
I'm not sure with this, but this was suggested as well.

Gastronomic Experience in Seoul

I'm way behind on my blog posts. Anyways, Korean food is my favorite cuisine. Before the Samgyeupsal craze, I love eating in grilled korean barbecue restaurants, and my favorite even is Sariwon (#notsponsored).

So anyways, I thought I'd share with you my food experience in my recent trip to Seoul.

I would start with airplane food. It was our first time to ride with Korean Air, and I think the food we had on our trip to Seoul was worth mentioning, for someone with 1st time experience like me.

Yes I was so much fascinated with what I had on the plane. Bibimbap!!!! and it's even good. So there's a separate pack for warm rice then with little kimchi, there's even bean soup, then beef bibimbap. See the tube of white thing on top of the plate of meat and vegetables? That's the sauce for the bibimbap, amazing isn't it? I really had fun eating this in the plane.

Upon our arrival in our airbnb, was around dinner time already, so we were hungry. Our itinerary was supposed to eat streetfood, but we were really hungry already so we ate a little at a restaurant just beside our airbnb.

We ate at Brown Chicken restaurant, and ordered the classic fried chicken. It was crispy on the outside and not dry on the inside. So for me it was good, not mind-blowing good, just good. The price of this chicken and fries above was: KW 17, 000

Then we ate streetfood in Myeongdong which I had a separate blog about.

On our 2nd day, I bought a convenient store food for breakfast, since I wake up really early, I usually eat something while waiting for the restaurants to open.

This is a popular streetfood, korean fish cake in broth. It was actually good for a convenient store food. Although it was a little spicy, (I was able to tolerate but I don't enjoy spicy food really). See even if it was spicy I was able to say it was good.

Then for the legit breakfast, we ate at a cafe, Yoger Presso Coffee. The waffles were great. I ate the strawberry waffle costing KW 2, 500 and ordered hot choco KW 4, 300. The cinnamon waffle was KW 2, 300 and Cafe Americano KW 3, 300, which were great. Just the right amount of crunchiness at the outside and soft at the inside.

For lunch on our 2nd day, we ate beef broth with rice. It kind of feel nostalgic, I could remember when we were young, we'll put our rice in the beef soup. The beef is tender, I love that there were a lot of spring onions and I was surprised there was rice or noodles below it. The soup was tasty, umami but kind of refreshing a little. This beef soup with rice I had was KW 8, 000 and if you order the beef rib with glass noodles, it cost KW 11, 000

And in some restaurants, you cut your own kimchi. Which was spicy nothing compared to those ready made kimchi, here the kimchi was spicier and tastes more fresh and crunchy. I love kimchi even though I hate spicy food, but just love this.

We then had a taste of our 1st Korean Grilled meat: pork and beef! For our first grill experience, the meat cost: KW 30, 000, and 38, 000. We chose the marinated pork and beef by the way. Sodas cost around KW 4, 000 per can.

Also we tried the raw moving octopus. And I will never eat that again. The tentacles will suck at your tongue, it it really feels "Eew". The tentacles were slimy, but fresh-tasting, it's a little sweet like how fresh seafood usually taste. I actually ended up grilling this one in the end. I forgot how much was this, sorry.

Then I checked-in at K-hotel, sponsored by the KUA. Here's a glimpse of the hotel breakfast buffet food. Bacon, some vegetables, mushroom and dumpling. I've got no complaints.

Mapo soup is great too! For those who hate spicy like me, you can request for a mild or nonspicy food, which I always did in our stay in Seoul.

And since we love Korean Grill so much, we ate for the succeeding dinners in grills. My tip is to choose the marinated beef, since they taste better although more expensive also.

Korea Trip Winter OOTD

This is some kind of a new type of content for the blog. I love posting ootd in my personal facebook account. Posting it there was for no reason, just showing my love for dresses, clothes and dressing up. So transferring some of it to a blog, I don't know how it will do but whatever, this blog is supposed to be something I want to post anyways.

To give you a brief overview, I'm a size L-XL usually or UK 10-12 depending the brand, US 38-40. Anyways you get the picture, I don't have the body of the model 👅. Also I went on a trip on the last week of November. So the weather in Korea is already winter, with daily temperature of 1- 8 degrees celsius.

Let's begin:

Mango long sleeves top - I got this from Ivan, (chosen by Tita Cecile of course) as an anniversary gift. This is in M by the way, which I usually don't fit, but turned out it kind of fit anyways.
Divisoria Checkered Pants - This are one of my old pants that I have, in size L, I love travelling with this because of the zipper pockets.
Nike Rubber Shoes - I only have 2 rubber shoes, the other pair replica Nike of neon orange color, and this one, black Nike shoes. I really prefer rubber shoes in travelling, because it's just comfortable and ok for walking long walks

Also in the hand-carry the thermal top, pants, gloves, scarf, jacket were stored, in case I was not able to tolerate the cold weather upon arrival in Korea.

Upon arrival at Korea and we reached our Airbnb, we changed into something to eat dinner.

So here's my OOTD along the street of Myeongdong, when we ate street food.

Knitted Beanie Hat - I can't remember the brand - this really protects your head from the cold wind.
Pearl Dangling Earrings - Colorstone, I only brought with me 1 pair of earrings, so I chose this, because it can be used casually and semi-formally.
Pokemon Center Pikachu Jacket - This is my favorite jacket, I got from my recent trip from Japan. If you go to Japan, just buy the Pokemon Center jacket, because it's warm, it's warm, and cozy.
Pants - same as I wore from the picture above
Rubber Shoes - same as above
Kipling Body Bag - I got this as a gift also and I like that I can put a lot of things in this bag.
Winter Gloves - I got this from instagram @summerskymnl, I love that you can use this in your touchscreen phone. You can also see these exact same gloves in Myeongdong, I think actually the gloves were from Korea.

This is officially Day 1 - one full day in Seoul Korea.

Here I'm wearing thermal inside already, for both top and pants.

Scarf - this was a gift from my sister from Japan, it's made of faux fur which was perfect for the winter weather, keeping me warm and protecting from the cold wind.
Winter Coat - this was from Pull & Bear, I didn't buy this, haha this was borrowed from my mother. I love the color of this, because you can match this with a lot of types of clothes and it looks really stylish don't you think? Not to mention really warm. There's actually faux fur also as an inside lining of the coat.
Pants - same as above
Gloves -this time in white, but it's the same from above, touch screen
Rubber shoes the same.

Inside the coat as you can see I'm wearing a knitted striped long sleeves top. I can't remember the brand sorry.

So in total I'm wearing, underwear inside, then thermal, then long sleeves top, then winter coat. So a total of 4 layers of clothes.

Myeongdong Street Food for a First-Timer in Korea

It was our 1st time in Korea, I put this in our itinerary as our 1st activity the moment we arrived in Seoul. We arrived in Seoul around 7:00pm so just in time for dinner. Well actually since we're already so hungry upon check-in at our Airbnb, we ate at a nearby restaurant a little first since we'll be taking the subway to Myeongdong from our Airbnb.

Just a brief background of our trip, we went November 27, 2018. It was beginning winter season already and our conversion rate during this time was: 1Korean Won = Php 0.048.

So here were a few of the streetfood we ate at Myeongdong.

1. Egg Bun (GyeRan Bbang)- KW 2000

This is like a hard boiled egg wrapped in pancake batter with sesame seeds and sunflower seeds on top. This is very fragrant, and when you eat this I especially love the pancake side. Below is a picture of the inside of it. There's the hard boiled egg at the center and the pancake bread is enveloping it. If you love hard boiled eggs you would love this.

2. Cheesy Lobster - KW 15,000

I find this too expensive for a streetfood. But hey this is lobster... and you'll only buy one anyway. With the price I was kind of expecting more from this, but this kind of tasted like lobster, topped with cheese then they torch this. So the saltiness of the cheese with the fragrance of "grill" kind of like a topping to the lobster. I cannot say it blended well but it's a so-so for me.

3. Cheesy Scallops - KW 10,000

Well this was eye-catching, and kind of unique in a sense. You can see they prepare and cook the scallops in front of you. They put this in a clam, and the cut the scallops into pieces and top them with cheese and then grill the thing. I was disappointed though with this dish, since it was so chewy and difficult to chew. Not for senior citizen with dentures.

4. Grilled Shrimp - KW 6000

Here there are 6 pieces of tiger prawns in a skewer. We especially like this one since this was fried in butter and there was a touch of torch I think to give you that smoky smell and taste. The shrimps were sweet which blends well with the saltiness of the butter and grill.

5. Gluttinous Rice Cake (Hoddeok)- KW 2000

I like this also and this I think is one of the streetfood you must try also. This has a chewy outer cake (they say it's a pancake but for me it's kind of more of gluttinous rice cake). The center filling is sweet with crushed peanuts. The fried salty cake blends really well with the sweet filling inside. This is served in a paper cup. I think this is 2nd to the grilled shrimp for me.

Experiencing Filipino Culture in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

We had relatives coming from abroad to visit the Philippines, they're not much of beach persons so our extended family decided to bring them to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan. We went last November 1, 2018.

I just joined up to the last minute since I was lucky I was not on duty that day. It's been long since my family did a local road trip anyways. From Manila to Bataan it was around 5 hour drive. We actually got lost for a time since my dad put the wrong Las Casas in Waze.

You'll arrive at the entrance and the car can drop you off at the main lobby/entrance, then park at the designated parking lot. Inside the main lobby, while my cousin was confirming and paying for the walking day tour (Php 2500), you can admire the Instagram-worthy scenery.

The old houses at the back are really pretty.

And since our guests were senior citizens, they enjoyed the scenery and the swing as well.

What's great about this place is that you can let your guests to experience a piece of the Filipino culture all in 1 place.

They get to experience the jeepney, which was the major means of transportation in the resort. Here, our guests tried for the first time riding a jeepney.

Another thing they get to experience is riding the calesa:

We then proceeded with the walking tour. In the walking tour, you get to go to 5 cultural houses, if I can remember it right, house of Dr. Jose Rizal in Calamba Laguna, General Luna, old UP and I couldn't remember the others hehe.

It was hot and humid when we went there so bring an umbrella. Also since this is quite tiring to visit 5 architectural old houses, our guests actually didn't finish the tour since they got tired already. During these times, it's better to take note of the health over the experience hehe.

Since the owner of the resort is an architect, you can see the amazing details he put into preserving the architecture outside, inside the houses, not much, a few important pieces probably.

Of course it's great if you can do some cute poses with the houses / churches, etc.

This is the first time my mom tried the "twinning" pose.

Here's a picture of the outside of Hotel de Oriente, there's a tour also inside it but we didn't take it anymore since it was hot and we're tired as well

Inside the restaurants in the resort, there were no air-conditioning, so if it was hot, during lunch time, always remember to bring a fan.

Because of the heat, actually our guests were not able to tolerate it, so they went down the ground floor, at the lobby where there's air-conditioning.

There are bicycles as well which you can rent to ride inside the resort. I didn't ride one since it was a little high for me.

Because of the heat, I think my make-up melted.

There's also a boat ride included in the walking tour, buy we didn't take it anymore since our guests were really tired and we decided to go home already.

Overall I think it was a great experience. Here are some OOTD tips:

Wear comfortable clothes (T-shirt/blouse)
Pants
Comfortable shoes (since you'll be really walking)
Some shoes that are easily removed (because you have to take off your shoes when you go inside the cultural house)
Hat (because of the hot sun)
Sunglasses (to avoid the squinty eyes in your pictures)

Additional essentials to bring:

Selfie Stick (if you love taking selfies)
Water (because water there is expensive, and during the tour, you don't know where to buy water)
Umbrella
Fan (because it's really hot)

I think the best time to visit Las Casas is during the December - February season when the Philippine weather is cooler and there's less chances of rain.

November 2018 Empties

These are the collective empties that I've accumulated. Some were not really empty, but they've reached the 1 year limit I set for my makeup products.

Some random rant: I'm not liking the new algorithm of Facebook, wherein in order to be in the news feed of your friends, your post should have comments and shares and not just likes.

1. Heimish Dailism Eye Palette - I really loved this palette as you can see I've actually hit pan. I really love the princess pink colors of this one. You're getting your money's worth with this one.

2. YSL Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation - This is by far my most favorite cushion. None has replaced the performance of this yet, my problem with this one though was that I cannot find a refill of my shade. I searched in USA, I searched in Taiwan International Airport, I couldn't find my shade.

3 - 4. Heroinemake Long and Curl Mascara and Daiso eyebrow pencil - this 2 has always been in my empties, my thoughts are still the same.

5. Cathy Doll Shocking Black Eyeliner - If only the cap of this one did not come off in my makeup bag, this is really good, it's easy to apply and easy to manipulate and I love that it's really black.

6. Savvy Mineral Loose Powder - I love the container of this one, you can twist it so the powder will not be all over the place.

7. Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel Sunscreen - well what more can I say with biore, it's my favorite sunscreen brand. I actually am using now the Shiseido sunscreen but I'm not too happy with the smell of it, since it really smells like alcohol. So maybe I'll go back to this brand again once I finished it.

Welch Sparkling Juice Dupe

I'm a big fan of the Welch Sparkling Juice, but living in a dormitory/condominum, sometimes you don't have access to grocery nearby. Convenient stores are now more accessible than the major supermarkets.

This is not a total replica, but at least "Pwede na" if you're craving for a 1 glass drink.

Ingredients: (I bought everything from a convenient store).

Welch grape juice
Sparkling water

Recipe:

Pour 30% of Sparkling Water into a glass and 70% of Welch Grape Juice.

My AUA Experience

When I was in 1st year, this was one of my goals I've set,to be able to go to attend AUA. I was inspired by my senior residents before, they were talking of how inspiring it is to attend AUA. So nainggit ako in short.

The way I thought of how to get to AUA was to have a research paper for presentation. I submitted 4 research papers and only 1 was accepted for presentation. This is to let you have an idea of how difficult it is to get in.

So this year's AUA was held in San Francisco, California. I've never been to USA before, so I don't know what to expect either. I've always felt I'm doing something in my own effort when I go to these presentations. Even if I'm just relying on my parent's money for the expenses of the whole trip, I felt I was paying them in return in a way of presenting internationally. So I won't feel guilty that I'm spending their money despite being an adult already.

So we arrived to AUA convention 1 day before the main event to register. I was given an email beforehand already with QR code, which I printed and they will just scan it and my badge would have been printed. Good thing though that we arrived 1 day before, because during the main event, there were lots of guards/ushers and my parents couldn't get in to get pictures.

This is the Uro foundation, AUA membership, Uro Census area, here it's like the Urology community worldwide participate in charitable cause.

I participated in Uro Census, wherein you key in your details, add some details of practices in your country and then you get freebies such as t-shirt and sunglasses. This t-shirt then became my AUA souvenir, since I didn't buy the souvenir in the AUA store.

So here's the legit outfit for the convention. This is day 1 already. Too bad my parents were not allowed already inside since they did not pay for the badge, so used my handy dandy selfie stick this time.

The convention itself was held in the different buildings of the convention center, so the attendees were really spread out.

To give you a glimpse of how massive the convention hall is, below is a picture of just one of the plenary. There were multiple plenaries done simultaneously and can you imagine this is just a portion of it? Just how many urologists are there? Can you count from the picture below?

Then lunch came, so you just go the industry-sponsored symposium to eat, because it's expensive in San Francisco.

Below is one of the lunch break sessions, I was lucky to be able to meet these well-known Filipino urologists, from left to right: Dr. Petero, Dr. Abraham, Dr. Nitisasmito. Dr Petero is practicing in Guam, Dr. Abraham in Philippines, and Dr Nitisasmito in Indonesia. (actually I'm not sure if Dr Nitisasmito has Filipino roots, but all I know is that he's a product of UST Urology).

We'll now move to the research presentation, I presented in the moderated poster category. For the first time I knew no one in the room, no fellow Filipino urology residents nor consultants who can give moral support and take my picture. To the point that I actually asked the presenter after me if he can take my picture. I guess this is a glimpse of the adult life? hehe.

What's interesting about this presentation is that even consultants presented here. I experienced presenting in Hong Kong, Australia and Japan, and in all of those presentations, the residents were the presentors. However, for this case, did you see the one on stage sitting as a reactor? The one on the left most part. He actually presented as well a research paper! Talk about even consultants and reactors presenting here as well. I felt a sense of equality for some reason.

Below is a picture of the poster. I printed this from Philippines then brought it there to USA. They offered poster printing service, but I did not avail of that because it's too expensive compared to the printing services in the Philippines.

And I was able to meet some other Filipino Urology residents as well.

Of course since there's a really long escalator within the building, we just have to take a selfie while in it.

And at the same time fangirling and feeling proud as one of our consultants gave a lecture during the AUA convention.

And one of Filipino UST med graduate but pursued his residency and career in USA, also my idol, Dr. Diokno, very down to earth dr.

We then took a picture, the whole PUA in AUA!!! Wow so many!

Overall, I'm truly grateful for this achievement, bucket list checked.

Colourpop Disney Designer Eyeshadow Palette - Review

I've always wanted to try Colourpop eyeshadows, because there were really great reviews about Colourpop eyeshadows in general. But I always prevent myself from buying a palette because of the price.

But then I saw this on Youtube, and I was no longer able to stop myself with the justification that my Heimish Dailism Eye Palette has already reached 1 year and I already hit pan to several shadows already.

I'm a Disney fan, grew up with Disney and this collaboration really was the reason I was not able to prevent myself from buying this palette.

Packaging	I was really amazed when I received this, the box is just soooooo.... luxurious! The front has the signatures of the disney princesses in gold lettering. And at the back are the names of the shadows. Then when you open the box, you get this black, made of cardboard palette. This has a magnetic lid also so you will hear a light click to maintain the lid closed. The packaging is just so amazing! The inner child in me just is so giddy right now. The back fo the palette also contains the names of the shadows. Then when you open the palette, this is what it looks like. The back of the top lid contains the signatures of the Disney princesses. Then the shadows themselves have their respective names below it as well.
Smell	like factory
Swatc	This has a total of 15 shades. The diameter of individual pans measure 1inch each.Lets start with the 1st row swatches: From left to right the names of the colors are: Chip, Juju, Grumpy, Triton, Abu. When you look at the pan the first 3 shades are matte, but when you apply it already on your skin/eyes the all colors of the 1st row are matte. The 2nd row then from left to right have the following names: Prince Charming, Ray, Fairy Godmother, One Kiss?, Thingamabob. These are glittery shadows. The 3rd row from left to right have the following names: Enchanted Rose, Poison Apple, Magic Carpet, Beast, Midnight Curfew. These are glittery as well.
Application	This is cruelty-free as it claimed. All the shadows are pigmented. If you can see from the swatches, the shadows are NOT patchy, smooth solid color. The shadows are buttery as well, and easily blendable. I now understand why people love the Colourpop eyeshadows, the formula is superb. Even comparable to Urban Decay, although not as soft and buttery as Urban Decay, but these are amazing!!!! Here's another picture of how pigmented the shadows are. Longevity Test The shadows last approximately 12 hours and went well. What I love about this palette is this contains the colors that I usually go for and has some shadows which are not my comfort zone as well. But the best part is that these shadows are relatively wearable. Here let me breakdown 2 looks I made: To those who knew me personally I love pink in my eyeshadows, and this palette has a good amount of pink shades in it. Here, I tried something I don't usually wear (purple), but I mixed it with a hint of pink, because I can't wear too much wildness inside the hospital.

Fisherman's Wharf

It was my first time in USA, so this trip was something I should remember. I was in a peak though of my negative thinking during this time. As I am now looking back I thought I did not appreciate this experience as much as I did when I went to Japan. But now, I'm thankful for this experience.

We went last May 2018. I scheduled this on our itinerary as our 1 full day. I was with my parents, so this is not the typical getting the most out of your short time in a foreign country. I was with people who can't walk too long and we take frequent breaks in between. This was the reason why I love DIY itinerary. I can customize it according to health conditions of people you're with.

We stayed in Union Square so to get to Fisherman's Wharf, we decided to take the Cable Car. A single trip cost $7. There's a one day pass available, which you can get if you plan to take it multiple times in a day. We just did the single trip, since during that time we were not sure how to go back yet (the adventure of anything goes and trying new things).

This was how the cable car looked like. There's a long wait if you go into the last or first station of the cable car. I recommend getting on the cable car in the between stations. Although the disadvantage of this is that you will not be able to get the front seats and outside seats, but it saves time.

Here's the inside of the cable car.

The cable car actually will stop at the top of Lombard Street. Then will ask the tourists if they want to take pictures, then will ask the tourists to get back up the cable car if they want to continue the cable trip or stay at Lombard Street. There's no extra fee for getting down to take pictures then getting back to the cable car again.

When you arrive, of course you have to take picture of the logo besides the one famous picture I posted at the start of this article.

Of course by the time we arrive, we went to the tourist center to go into the comfort room. While waiting for my folks I of course took pictures inside. There were lots of designs for instagram here.

We ate of course the Clam Chowder in Sourdough Bowls and Lobster Sandwich. There were lots of restaurants offering them actually, you can buy outside and eat the sandwiches while walking. But we decided to eat inside a restaurant because we were already very cold. It was really chilly. Even wearing 2 jackets, the cold still got to me.

Just like the name, sourdough bowl... The bread bowl was really sour, like "yeasty", you know, when you put a lot of yeast in the bread dough? Like that taste. It was crispy in the outside and soft sour dough inside.

The clam chowder was tasty, it's a great combination actually with the sourdough.

Then we ordered also the Lobster Sandwich, it was kind of bland for me though, nothing special, like a shrimp salad spread.

There lots of Sea Gulls in the whole place.

Of course being a Disney fan, I remembered Scuttle from Little Mermaid when I saw the birds.

Then we saw an old arcade. It was really cool to see the old arcade machines. There was actually a mechanical puppet show.

Cool isn't it???

Then we went to Pier 39, this is the place that's most festive. You see this restaurant on the left? The place was packed since we arrive and when we left! Talk about famous!

The famous attraction for Fisherman's Wharf are the sea lions sunbathing of course. Haha, it was kind of noisy actually, and there's a kind of "fishy" smell.

Did you notice I have a new jacket in the above picture? Yeah, I couldn't stand the cold breeze so my mom and I bought new jackets already.

At around 2pm we decided to go back to our hotel, my parents were already tired and we rested at the hotel. I just couldn't stop myself to post the picture below, there's just something in it that looked so nice, whether it's the post of my dad? or the fact that there's no other people in the scene.

You will be able to see how the cable cars are turned when you get down from cable car at the last stop. Sorry couldn't post the video of it, the file size exceeded the allowable limit I could post in the blog.

To wrap things up:

Take extra sweaters or jackets, it's chilly there.
I think it will be a great adventure if you try the Segway Tours there also. I was actually pleading my parents to try it but they refused due to fear of falling and compromising the trip with injured ankles.
Try the Clam Chowder
If you're only staying in Union Square, you should eat in the In & Out Burger here already, since there's no more place near Union Square than the branch here.
Bring Sunglasses, so you will not squint when the sun is high at noon.

Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder - Review

This was very popular in the makeup community, late with the bandwagon. In reality have to finish old makeup first before trying out a new one, so I can control my purchases of makeup stuffs.

After finishing the Savvy Mineral Loose Powder, here's now my new loose powder.

Packaging	This comes in big plastic tub with twistable orange cap. It has a big puff also. I don't know it this is an advantage or not? I find the big tub to be too bulky and takes up a lot of space in my makeup bag. I actually transferred the content to the Savvy Mineral Loose Powder case because I like the size of it. When you open the cover, here's what it will look like: And when you remove the puff inside: Here's how the small box holes look like: What I don't like though in this package, is that there's no cover, the powder gets all over the place. This was also the reason why I transferred the powder to the Savvy Mineral Loose Powder case.
Smell	Powdery (Baby Powder) with hint of little flower.
Shade	Translucent
Application	The size of the powder is fine, but it feels kind of coarse on application, I mean how can I explain, it's not "silky" smooth. But it's finer and smoother than Innisfree and Savvy Mineral Loose Powder. Below is a picture of comparison with and without the powder. Although it's translucent, I felt it gave my face a very little white color. But I love how this is lightweight and you can't feel the powder on your face. The smell also is not overpowering on applciation. Here's how it looked like full face:

L'oreal Lash Paradise vs Heroinemake Kissme Long & Curl Mascara

I've been using the Heroinemake Kissme Long & Curl Mascara and has been my holy grail mascara ever since I tried it. I really stock up on this when I went to Japan.

Then I recently tried this L'oreal Lash Paradise and I was really impressed with it that I thought it is holy grail material. So I decided to do a battle with my Heroinemake Kiss Me Long & Curl mascara.

The first difference I saw was the wand.

Wand

The L'oreal Lash paradise had a straight brush with 2 blobs in the two ends.

As for the Heroinemake, this has the curve wand

Smell

The Heroinemake has a strong chemical scent. The L'oreal Lash Paradise has a similar chemical scent also, but it's milder than the heroinemake.

Application

What I was impressed with both was when I applied it, it spreads your lashes and coats every strand of your eyelash. Here's a picture below when I applied them on each eye. It's almost similar that you cannot tell the difference. In fact I wore this to work and no one noticed that difference. The only thing I realized though, Lash Paradise volumizes more than the Heroinemake, but this is not a fair difference though since the Long and Curl does not even claimed to volumize the lashes. So they're both just true to their claim.

Longevity

Both held up pretty well after 12 hours of wear in the hospital. I have natural straight and short lashes, so after around 12 hours, they fell a little already. But still acceptable and even great for wear.

I'm adding a picture below of the side by side from immediate wear to after 12 hours.

Overall I love both. But my final verdict, L'oreal Lash Paradise won by tiny fraction. It looks more spread out than the Heroinemake.

I think I now have a new holy grail (or maybe 2 holy grail)

Loreal Voluminous Lash Paradise - First Impressions

The moment I watched this from Tati, the following day, I looked for it in the Loreal counters. However during that time, it was not yet available in the Philippines, even online. So when I went to AUA this May, this was one of my "must-buy" makeup.

Packaging	The plastic tube is metallic rose pink with a twistable cap. The length of this is 12.2 cm with 1.5 cm diameter. The wand of this is narrower in the middle portion. The bristles were great as well.
Smell	chemical scent similar to Heroinemake mascara but this is less strong than Heroinemake

Application	Tati was right! This lengthened and volumized my lashes and as in literally! This is really amazing, in fact can battle with my holy grail mascara, Heroinemake. In just one coat of the mascara, it spreads your lashes and volumizes them. Here's a picture of comparison of just 1 coat of application. And when you apply to both eyes, as in amazing! The claim of this is that it's waterproof and it is actually. I tried removing this even with Shiseido Miracle whip but it didn't budge. But it was removed with Banila Co Clean it Zero. Longevity After 10-12 hours, the lashes are still coated but my naturally straight lashes started to show already. The curl started to straighten already.

Mumuso Perfect Rhombus Eyebrow Pencil

I think I bought this when some of my Daiso eyebrow pencils ran out, anyways I really can't remember. Well I think this is a blessing in disguise I think, good thing I did not decide to sell this too since I was able to replenish my Daiso Eyebrow Pencil in past Japan trip.

Packaging	White plastic body pen, with brown cover. Below is the picture when it's still sealed with plastic. When the seal was removed: You can twist the pencil up and down. This has 2 tips, 1 for the pencil and the other one the spooly. The pencil is shaped like a rhomboid.
Smell	none
Swatch	I got the shade #3, Dark Coffee
Application	I was not expecting much of this actually, since I did not see a lot of reviews for this. But I was actually surprised that on application it's really smooth! And what I love the most about this is that the spooly is really soft too. Even softer than Daiso. Comparing this with Daiso though, I think I like this better because of smooth application and really love the spooly.

Vice Phenomenal Liquid Lipstick

I was kind of behind the bandwagon for this 😜😝. Well I was kind of sad one sunday afternoon and then I find myself buying this and the Ever Bilena Kris Liquid Lipstick. Even if I have lots of lip tints already. Shopping therapy I guessed kicked in.

Packaging	Plastic tube with metallic pink twistable cover. This has the very similar package with Colourpop liquid lipstick. This contains 3.0 mL The wand applicator is flat tip on two sides like a spatula
Smell	Vanilla Scent
Consistency	Mousse texture than turns into matte
Swatch	Shade: Whoops Kiri
Application	I like that this is curelty free and 2 years of expiration after opening. On application, it's really sticky at first but once it sets, it turns into a dry film and is budge-proof. Once it sets, you can really feel the thin dry film over your lips. It's drying also to your lips, so better be ready with a lip balm when you use this. Once it sets, it's kiss-proof, here I think it has not completely set yet so there's a little bit of transfer. It's waterproof also. Longevity Test: On full lips, hands down to the longevity of this, this lasted for more than 8 hours, I think up to 12 hours if I'm not mistaken (forgot to take the picture). On ombre lips though, this lasts for less than 6 hours. Since I have dry lips, I think I won't be reaching for this often, but if you have well-moisturised lips then I think this is a great liquid lipstick. This is something I think as a Filipino am proud of, because this is a great dupe for the colourpop liquid lipstick and it's affordable! Really can compete with foreign products and even though this is from a celebrity, it's actually a great product.
