I've been doing a lot more digital drawings but it feels so good to go back to a pencil on paper. It's so much easier to get a smooth controlled line on paper.

Drawing Studies

2017-05-31T02:07:00.001-04:00

I'm trying to get back a habit of drawing regularly. It sure is tough to make the time though.

Here are some crummy photos of some studies I did the other night.

Poses

2016-05-22T00:35:00.002-04:00

I'm attempting to organize my posts a little better and have decided that this blog will function more for ideas and generally more rough concepts. For finished work you can check out my website mindsize.us. So to start things off, here are some poses I did the other night.

Putting Things Together

2015-11-22T22:43:00.001-05:00

This isn't anything new, I just started taking the pieces I have modeled and rendered them together in one scene. I'm still working on some more builds and vehicles.

Second Building

2015-08-20T22:08:00.001-04:00

I did most of this last week while I was on vacation. I'm going to try to get back into creating something new every couple of days again.

While I was on vacation, I also started learning about parenting objects. This has really changed how I put things together. Initially, I was modeling everything as a single mesh in edit mode. Now I can model sections, duplicate meshes, and texture them all individually while still have them connected; so that I can move the entire set of meshes around, without worrying about misaligning pieces.

Wooden Crates

2015-08-05T23:34:00.000-04:00

Needed to make something quick before bed, so I made some wooden crates.

Base - Building

2015-08-03T23:29:00.001-04:00

Made a little more progress on this building...

Military Truck

2015-07-29T22:47:00.000-04:00

Did a little more work today. I managed to make the wheels, axles and rough out a the basic truck shape. But like all things, I'm really slow at this.

That's about all I have time for tonight.

Blocking Out

2015-07-27T21:55:00.000-04:00

3D is so much fun!! The jeep, and now the larger scene I'm working on, are based on concept art by Paul Robertson. Here is a look at the concept piece and the rough layout I've started blocking out. The next element that I'm going to tackle is the truck.

Jeep Two

2015-07-19T23:00:00.004-04:00

This weekend I've been working on the jeep I started. In this model there are some really rough edges and some bad geometry; but you by making mistakes, right?

I think I'll call this finished. Now to take what I've learned and apply it to the next model!

Jeep

I started creating a military base in Blender. Today I worked on the jeep for the base. The jeep isn't done just yet, but I made some good progress on it.

warehouse WIP 2

2015-05-19T23:00:00.003-04:00

Doing a little more work on the warehouse.

Batteries

2015-05-18T23:06:00.000-04:00

Thanks for the push Steve! I wanted to make something simple before bed, as it's been a few days since I created anything, so I finished up this simple battery ideal. It's quick and simple, but it felt good to make something new.

Warehouse

2015-05-10T22:28:00.001-04:00

Messing around with creating an abandoned warehouse. Like most things I work on, this isn't done but before the busy work week starts, I wanted to post my progress.

Low Poly Truck 1-1

2015-05-04T22:45:00.001-04:00

Owen saw me learning Blender and wanted to make a truck, so we did this together. I had Owen model most of the body, wheels, and pick all the colors. After he went to bed, I worked on the smaller details, like adding in the bumpers, lights and fenders.

Fun with physics in Blender

2015-04-30T22:55:00.001-04:00

Yes, this is a rather simple experiment, but I'm learning little by little... and having fun.

Here's something I worked on over the weekend.

Run Joe!

2014-04-21T22:38:00.001-04:00

I made this sprite character, I'm calling "Average Joe", for an experiment in Unity 3D that i'm working on. Here are a couple test animations I made for the project.

GitS - BG Chacter WIP

2013-11-24T22:54:00.000-05:00

Still working on the same canvas... this is another background character study.

I'm working on a larger illustration and this is a background character.

Heavy Run

2013-01-06T21:51:00.001-05:00

So, I'm trying to re-learn how to animate in Maya. It's so awkward to get back into. I've been using Photoshop so much that getting back into navigating with the alt key and in 3 dimensions is taking a while to get proficient at.

Anyway, here is a super ruff run cycle. There is some bad popping and the up and down body motion is too floaty (the push from the legs isn't making the body bob correctly) but I needed to bully my way through this and now I'll start fresh and do another one.

I'm hoping to do some kind of quick action or cycle on a weekly basis. Depending on how these turn out I may post more.

**edit: not sure how to make the embedded video loop... you get the idea though.
