I have so many unfinished drawings in the works. I just can't seem to get them done though. Here are some random head doodles I did a few days ago to fill in the gap while I try and get something a little more finished.

Cowboy

On the Atomic Cardboard blog we are currently having a cowboy theme. This is my character design for the cowboy.

Normally I like to ink my drawing but for this one i was lazy and just photographed the pencils and put down some basic colors over them. It takes me a while to get even a simple drawing like this done (between work and kids.) I'm also more interested in creating more images and building a model sheet for this character than I am in creating a finished image.

This afternoon I hope to be able to work out some new poses and expressions. Then I'm hoping to try my hand at modeling him in MAYA!

Harry Potter

For Christmas I did a few drawings for my cousins. This was the first one I did. As the titles say, it's Harry Potter. This was drawn with a blue color pencil and then inked with various gray tone brush pens.

Anyone familiar with Drake from Uncharted?

Over on Atomic Cardboard I posted a challenge to draw an image of Drake (which no one else joined in on) and this is my take on the adventurer. I wanted tried to keep him lighthearted in that goofy, charming way he has about him. Adding in some foliage in his wardrobe, as he's always trudging through some kind of jungle environment. This was fun to do, even if it does take me a long time to finish between work, kids and freelance projects. I'd love to do more with this, or even animate Drake, but i think now it's time to move on to the next one!

Warm-up

Just something to keep the momentum rolling. I have another drawing i'm working on but wasn't able to finish it tonight... This was a warm-up I did before inking another drawing. I always try and do some kind of warm-up before i start inking; as it takes a little while to get loosened up. The first few dozen brush strokes are never pretty.

I drew this with a blue color pencil and then inked it with a

Faber Castell brush pen.

Took the car to the garage this morning and had plenty of time to do this... almost 3 hours to change my oil! At least I had some time to draw though.

The Batman

I'm not a big superhero fan but it was fun to draw Batman. I've always been more interested in the people behind the superheros.

Now that I have this, I would like to try finishing the image. So I'll see about cleaning this up in Photoshop later on. It is a long weekend for me... We'll see what happens.

Something I did the other day. No one in particular.

Since moving back to the States I haven't had a scanner so I haven't been doing much in the way of finished work. I'll see about posting some more unfinished stuff (captured by camera...) in hopes of increasing the frequency in which i upload content. I have a few more sketches around here that i might be able to upload.

I read this verse a few days ago and it was rather impactful for me. "Better is the end of a thing than it's beginning.." It didn't seem to mean much, or make a lot of sense at first but after thinking about it, it is easy to start something but following through with something to the end is what's important.

I find this especially true with my art. I have so many ideas, good intentions and stacks of half finished drawings all over. So I wanted to create a design around this verse... and i actually finished it!

I'm going to try and be more diligent about finishing things I start! Hope you like a poster.

Over the weekend I did some head sketches that I colored with markers. It's been a long time since I've used markers (not that I've ever used them much...) Makers are definitely a fun medium to work with. I don't see myself ever doing something too involved or polished with them though but as far as having fun and doing doodles goes, i think i'll be playing with them more.

Rocket Bike

This is my final concept drawing, after having gone through many concepts and several stylistic revisions. The basic shape revolves around a straight turbine engine with everything else (including the pilot) strapped on around it. The hardest part about making bike, was trying to make it look like a early 1900's piece of machinery and not too sci-fi. I referenced a lot of old machinery and trackers to try and find the right shapes.

The drawing is still ruff but I think there is enough information to get the idea of what everything is. This was more a study to figure out what the bike would look like so that I could use it in other drawings.

Rocket Racer - Redesign

This was a redesign of the previous rocker racer I posted here.

The drawing was done with pencil on paper, then scanned and digitally colored. I experimented a little with adding some photographic textures into this image as well.

This months themes over at Atomic Cardboard is early 1900's racers, the twist is they race rocket bikes. So here is one of the racers. Now it's time to start designing is "bike".

Ivan - Colored

Here is the latest update on the Ivan drawing. Over the last few days I had a little bit of time to finish up the colors. I thought i'd add in a floor texture once i was done coloring and got a little carried away. Adding in a tiled floor texture ended up being a few hours of layering textures and lighting. This was fun project to work on.

His names Ivan and he's a Russian Government Exec from the 1950's. He's a heavy drinker. And not the most moral guy, but not completely corrupt either.
