Qaseeda E Ghousia by His Eminence Shayhk Abdul Qadir Muhiyuddin Al Jilani radi allahu anhu in praise of Himself , As He radi allahu anhu was ordered by ALLAH ta’ala to write in praise of Himself to show what is the Status of his Abdul Qadir Al Jilani radi allahu anhu.

Qaseeda E Ghousia in English

Cups of Union the Beloved gave me to drink;
So I told my “Wine”, advance towards me.

Then it moved and walked to me in cups;
“In my intoxication”. I understood the Friends in my midst.

I said to all the Polar-Stars, Come and enter my State.
And become my Companions

Be courageous and drink, you are my army,
Because the Cup-Bearer of the Fraternity has filled my cup to the full.

And you sipped from my cup, what I left after my deep “intoxication”,
But you neither attained my height nor my Union

All your stations are high,
But mine is higher ever.

I am singularly near to Him,
The Mighty One who changes my state and suffices.

I am a white Falcon of every Mystic..
“Who is there among the Saints, so gifted as me?”

He enrobed me with determination embroidered,
And He crowned me with the Crown of Perfection.

Unto me He revealed the Ancient secrets.
He adopted me and granted my request.

And He made me a Ruler over all the Polar-Stars.
So my Orders are effective under all circumstances.

Had I thrown my secret into the oceans,
They would have at once dried up.

Had I thrown my secret over, mountains,
They would have been pulverized.

Had I thrown my secret into fire,
It would have been at once extinguished by the secret of my mystic state.

Had I thrown my secret over the dead,
He would have stood up with the power of exalted God.

There are no months or ages,
Which flow but with my knowledge.

And they acquaint me with the present and the future, and they give me information,
And so, will you terminate your wrangles with me.

Be courageous my disciple, be cheerful and sing, in ecstasy
And act without restraint, for his name is exalted.

Do not be frightened, my disciple, Allah is my Sustainer
He has granted me the status through which I have attained high eminence.

My drums have been beaten in the heavens and earth,
And I have been given the rank of Good Luck.

The empire of Allah is under my Command,
And my time has been purified before birth.

I cast a glance at the entire Empire of Allah,
It is like a mustard seed alongside my sovereignty

I acquired knowledge till I became a Polar-Star,
And attained good luck through the great Lord.

They are companions remorseful like those who fast,
And like pearls in the darkness of the nights.

Each Saint has a station,
And I follow in the footsteps of the Prophet the Full Moon of Perfection.

He is a Prophet belonging to the family of Hashim and
To Mecca and to Hijaz, He is my ancestor. I achieve my objects through him.

Do not be frightened, my Disciple, of a Slanderer,
For I am a determined Combatant in battle.

I am Al Jilani; my name is Muhyiuddin,
And my banners flutter on mountaintops.

I am Hasani and my abode is my cell,
And my feet are on the neck of each Saint.

Abdul Qadir is my famous name,
And my ancestor is one possessed of an insight perfect.

As our beloved Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, was born a radiant light accompanied him and he lifted his head towards the heavens and the mother of Othman’s Abil-As’s son witnessed stars lowering themselves and a light so bright appeared that she could see nothing other than light.

Having read the words of those who had lived with the Holy Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam and had closely watched his every action, we shall now turn to some great scholars of Islam, whose writings are considered most authentic in Islamic affairs. Pay heed to these to dispel any doubts that you may have regarding the subject. All these great scholars firmly believed that celebrating Mawlid Sharif of the Holy Prophet SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam is authentic and lawful.

..:: Sayings of the Great Scholars about Celebrating Mawlid? ::..

1. After relating Abu Lahab’s relief on setting Thuwaibha free, Hadrat Maulana Shah Abdul Haq Dehlvi in his famous book Madarijun Nabuwwat says:

“This event provides a clear proof to those who celebrate Milad Sharif by rejoicing and alms giving on the night of the birth of the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam), People of Makkah gather on 12th Rabi al-Awwal to is it the house in which the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) was born. Only because he was his nephew, he has been receiving, in spite of this being an idolater, the benefits of thus rejoicing in his grave every Monday, then how much more blessing will fall to the lot of him who acknowledges the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) as the beloved of ALLAH and His true Prophet, and celebrates Milad Sharif repeatedly.”[Madarij an-Nabuwwah, Vol. 2, Page 34, Publisher: Zia al-Quran Publication]

As the poet says:

Dostaan Ra Kujaa Kunee Mahroom

Tu Keh Ba Dushmanaan Nazar Daree

How would you (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) leave out friends?

You, who feel great compassion, even for your enemies.”

2. Due to the rejoicing he made at the birth of the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam), Imaam Qastalaani says:

“How would anyone of the Ummah the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) fare, who is a Muslim and is steadfast in his belief in the unity of Allah and rejoices at his (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) birth and who spends whatever he can afford for the love of him (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam)? I swear by my life, that Allah, out of His Grace, will not reward such a person but by entering him into the Gardens of Bliss.” [Mawahib al-Ladunniyah by Imam Qastalani, Vol. 1, Page 27, Published in Egypt]

3. Imaam Qastalaani further states:

“May ALLAH bless a person who celebrates ‘Eid’ on the nights of the blessed month of the holy birth of the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam), so that it hurts them the most who have a serious disease in their hearts and who suffer from an incurable ailment on account of the blessed birth”. [Mawaahib-dunniyah by Imam Qastalani, Vol. 1, Page 27, Published in Egypt]

Oppositions would have now found the required word “Eid” in such an authentic book. If they do not agree with the writings of Imaam Qastalaani, then they should condemn their own leaders and scholars who have called this book the best and of great virtue.

4. Imaam Qastalaani further says that How blessed is the month in which the Prophet of ALLAH (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) was born! How very superior and sacred! How very respected the nights (of the month) as though they are pearls shining bright throughout the ages! How full of light and pure the face of the one born! How blessed the Being (ALLAH) who made the birth of the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) a springtime for the hearts and his (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) face a manifestation of splendor!

يقول لنا لسان الحال عنه

The tongue of the Prophet of ALLAH (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) Speaks the truth. And the thing is that the voice of truth appears to be sweet to the listener

وقول الحق يعذب السميع

And, O questioner! If you want to know about my attributes and my affairs, I would say this:

فوجهي والزمان وشهر وضعي

My face and my age and the month of my birth is springtime in the month of Rabi al-Awwal.

ربيع في ربيع في ربيع

He (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) has likened his blessed face to springtime in respect of blessed beauty and splendor and that his face blossomed in springtime in the month of Rabi al-Awwal.

Ref: Mawaahib al-Ladunniyah by Imam Qastalani, Vol. 1, Page 73, Published in Egypt

5. Imam Sharf al-Din al-Busairi, in chapter 4 of his Qasida Burda Sharif speaks of the birth of Rasoolullah SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam. The blessed day on which Rasoolullah SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam, was born is a praise worthy event. The birth of Rasoolullah SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam, illuminated the entire universe. Some miracles and incidents, which took place at the time of birth, are mentioned in this chapter. These were signs of the greatness of Rasoolullah SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam.

أبان مولده عن طيب عنصره

His birth distinctly showed his pure, good origin,

ياطيب مبتدإ منه ومختتم

Oh, the excellence, of his beginning and his end!

والجن تهتف والأنوار ساطعهٌ

And the jinn hailed and the lights shone,

والحق يظهر من معني ومن كلم

And the truth appeared from the meaning and its word.

6. Ibne Jauzi has devoted a whole book to Milad, which is called “Mawlid al-Uroos”. Allamah Ibne Jauzi says:

“And whosoever rejoices at the birth of our beloved Mustafa (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam), this rejoicing by him will turn the Fire away, and whosoever spends even a dirham on the occasion of the Milad of the Prophet of ALLAH, He (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) will intercede on his behalf and his intercession will be accepted”. [Mawlid al-Uroos, Page 9]

7. And, Ibne Jauzi has also written:

“O Milad of the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam)! You are mightily praised, and the praise is such that it is the loftiest and the remembrance is such that it is the most excellent; how I wish the remembrance of the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) shall be with me for a long time! How I wish his (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) Milad shall be with me for a long time!” [Mawlid al-Uroos, Page 28]

8. In this regard, Shah Waliullah Dehlvi says:

“Following the ancient practice, I recite the Holy Qur’an and distribute food etc. Of the Niyaaz (Faatihah) of the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) and made a public display of his blessed hair (Moo’e Muboarak). While reciting (the Holy Qur’aan), Mala’i A’la (Angels nearest to Allah) came to attend the Mahfil-e-Milad and the blessed soul of the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) showed much kindness to me (Shah Waliullah) and my friends. I, thus, saw that Mala’i A ‘la (Angels nearest to Allah) and, with them, the whole group of Muslims, were ascending to high heaven (on account of the blessings of the Prophet) and this blessed condition was reflected (in the Mahfil-e-Milad).” [al-Qaul al-Jalee, Page 74]

9. Hadrat Shah Abd al-Haq Muhaddith Dehlvi (may Allah have mercy on him), in his book “Ma Sabata min as-Sunnah” referring to the night of the blessed birth, of the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) says:

“We would rather say that the night when the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) was born is definitely superior to Lailat al-Qadr. This is so because the night of the birth is the night when he was manifested and Lailat al Qadr was bestowed on him (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam), and a thing which became blessed on account of him upon whom it was bestowed is more blessed than that which became blessed because of it being conferred upon him (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) and because Lailat al-Qadr is blessed because on this night Angels descend, and the night of the birth of the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) is blessed because of himself (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam), and because Lailat al-Qadr is a blessing only for the Ummah of Muhammad (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) and the night of his blessed birth is a blessing for all beings. Thus the Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) is he who Allah Ta’Aala sent down as a mercy to all the worlds and it is through him that Allah completed His blessings on all His creations in all heavens and in all earth.” [Ma Sabata Min as-Sunnah, Page 82, Published by Qaiyyumi Press, Kanpur, August 1923]

10. Those calling themselves followers of Shah Waliullah’s family should also note the following statement of Shah Waliullah Dehlvi. In his book, “Ad-Durr as-Sameen”, he says:

“My dear father, Hadrat Shah Abdur Raheem Dehlvi (may ALLAH have mercy on him) informed me that he used to get food cooked on Milad days as a mark of rejoicing for him (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam). One year it so happened that he could not afford anything except roasted grams, so he distributed those among the people, with the result that he had a vision of the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) in his dream and saw that those roasted grams were lying before him (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) and he (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) looked pleased”. (Ad-Durr as-Sameen, Page 3)

11. Haji Imdadullah Muhajir Makki (may ALLAH have mercy on him) says:

“The practice of this faqeer has been that I participate in Milad Sharif functions. In view of the fact that doing so brings blessings, I myself hold Milad every year, and find great solace and joy in Qiyaam (reciting salutations in a standing position)”

12. In the fourth chapter of his book “Ad Durr al-Munazzam”, Mawlana Shaykh Abd al-Haq Muhaddith Allahabaadi has recorded in detail incidents which manifested themselves at the time when the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) was born. These include:

“A cluster of stars concentrated over the roof of his house at the time of the birth of the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam); Angels hoisted flags on holy Baitullah and in the east and in the west; the whole atmosphere was filled with the voices of Angels and houres reciting salutations to him in the standing position and congratulating each other and rejoicing with abandon; animals also congratulated each other at the birth of the holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam), the Ka’batullah bowed in a manner of saluting, and the falsehood vanished and the light of truth spread light in all directions.”

“O Lord! I do not have such deeds that I can present in your mighty court. Wrongdoer influences all of my deeds. But there is an act of this Humbler just because of your mercy to present you and that is my Salutations on your Beloved Prophet Peace Be Upon Him that I use to offer with honesty and integrity standing in the blessed gatherings of Mawlid Sharif.” [Akhbar al-Akhyaar, Page 644]

18. Hadrat Shaykh Yousuf bin Ismail an-Nabhani said,

“Only Pagans and Non-Believers are against celebrating Mawlid an-Nabi SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam.”[Jawahir al-Bihar by Allama Yusuf Nabhani]

19. A scholar stated that he was blessed with the vision of Holy Prophet Peace Be Upon Him. He asked, “Ya Rasool Allah SallAllahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, Are you pleased about Muslims; who celebrate your birthday?” He replied “Those who love me; I love them too” [Tazkirat al-Wa’izeen, Page 200, Published from Maktaba Habibia – Quetta]

20. Ibn Kathir says regarding Shah Malik al-Muzzafar regarding whom Salafis spread deception by forging words of Ibn Kathir i.e. he was actually a Fasiq, cruel and Bidati ruler but in reality Ibn Kathir said:

“He was a generous, mighty master, and glorious ruler, whose works were very good. He built Jamiya al Muzaffari near Qasiyun … During Rabi al-Awwal he used to celebrate Mawlid Sharif with great celebration, Moreover, he was benevolent, brave, wise, a scholar, and just person. Shaykh Abul Khattab wrote a book on Mawlid an-Nabwi for him and named it At-Tanwir fi Mawlid al Bashir al Nazeer, for which he gave him 1000 dinars. His rule stayed till the Rule of Salahiya and he captured Aka and he remained a man worthy of respect.”

Al-Sabt mentions that a person attending the gathering of Mawlid held by Muzzafar said:

“He used to fill the table with 5000 well cooked goats, 10,000 chickens, 100-thousand bowls (of milk) and 30,000 trays of sweets.” [Tarikh Ibn Kathir, al Bidayah wa an-Nihaya, Vol. 13, Page 174]

21. Imam Shahab al-Din Abul Abbas al-Qastalani (Rahimuhullah) said:

When it is said that Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) was born at night time then the question arises which of the two nights is greater i.e. Night of Decree or Night of Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam)’s birth?

The Night of Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam birth is superior due to 3 reasons

First: He (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) arrived (in this world) on the Night of Mawlid whereas Night of decree was granted to him (afterwards), therefore the arrival of Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam is greater than what has been granted to him, hence night of Mawlid is higher in virtue.

Second: If Night of decree is vitreous night because Angels descend in it, then Night of Mawlid has the virtue of Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) being sent to world. The Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam is superior to Angels, therefore night of Mawlid becomes superior.

Third: Due to night of decree, the Ummah of Muhammad (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) was given imminence, whereas due to Night of Mawlid all creations were given Fadhilah (Superiority), as Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) is sent as Mercy to worlds/creations (Quran 21:107), hence the blessing was made general for all creations.

The reality of Mawlid is that people gather to recite Quran to the extent that is easy, also to discuss narrations which are regarding Prophet (SalAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam), the signs which took place on his birth. Then dinning is arranged for them and they return without adding anything more to this “Bidat al-Hasanah”. The one who arranges it gets Thawab due to honoring Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) and showing gratitude on his birth [Al Hawi lil Fatawi, Vol. 1, Page 292, Published by Maktaba al Athriya, Beirut - Lebanon]

23. Imam Jalal al-Din Suyuti (Rahimuhullah) answers why celebrating on birth supersedes the sorrow of Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) passing away on same date?

The birth of Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) is a great blessing for us and his death is very saddening for us too, however Shariah has ordered us to rejoice and thank Allah on blessings, whereas on calamity it has taught us to have patience while hiding it. Hence in light of rulings prescribed by Shariah one should rejoice in Rabi al-Awwal on birth of our beloved Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) [Al Hawi lil Fatawi, Vol. 1, Page 298, Published by Maktaba al Athariya, Beirut - Lebanon]

It is proven that Abu Lahab’s punishment of fire is reduced on every Monday because he rejoiced on brith of Prophet (SalAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) and freed the slave-woman Thuwaiba Radi ALLAHu Ta’ala Anha. When Abu Lahab, whose eternal abode is hell fire and regarding whom whole surah of Tabad Yada (i.e. Surah Lahab) was revealed, he gets Takhfif in his torment every Monday then Imagine the situation of a (momin) who has spent his life in rejoicing over birth of Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam) and died as a Mawhid.

(Oh Nabi) surely we have sent you as a witness (present and seeing) and as a bearer of glad-tidings (of our mercy) and a timely Warner (against the torment). In order that you (Oh people!) may believe in Allah and his Apostle, and may assist him, and honour and respect him heart and soul. And that you may sanctify and glorify Allah morning and evening

Hazrat Qadi Iyaad alaihi Rahmah states:

Allah Taala has made it an essential and a necessary act to respect the Prophet , and compulsory to obey him (Shifa Sharif)

Meaning that from the verse the command to obey the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)and respect him is imperative, compulsory and not just permissible. Therefore is it obligatory upon the Muslims to obey and have respect for the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) in someway or another. We also get to know from the verse that there is no specific or particular way in respecting the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)therefore; we should respect him in every way. However to call the Noble Prophet Sallalaho alaihi wasallam as God or as a Son of God is Kufr and that person becomes an infidel and is out of the boundaries of Islam.

Point

In the above verse, Imaan has been mentioned first (In order that you (Oh people!) May believe in Allah and his Apostle) then the respect of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has been mentioned (and may assist him, and honour and respect him heart and soul), and then the command of worship (And that you may sanctify and glorify Allah morning and evening). So we get this image that without Imaan the respect of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)is useless, and without the respect of the Blessed and holy Messenger Sallalaho alaihi wasallam, all our worships, like Salaah, Zakaah, Sawm, Hajj and the rest, are invalid and unaccepted.

In another place Allah, Taala says:

And who so respects the Signs of Allah, then this respect is because of the piety in their hearts

The summary of this ayah is that people who have fear of Allah in their hearts, then they are the ones who will respect the Signs of Allah. The Signs here means by the signs of Allahs religion, Islam. (Tafsir-e-Jalalain).

Moreover, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)is the greatest sign of Islam and is the highest and supreme sign of the religion. Those who deny the respecting of the Prophet , even though they look like good practising Muslims, their hearts are barren and empty with the fear of Allah!

It is in the Quraan:

And who so respects the Sanctities of Allah, it will be better for him with his Lord

The sanctities are those things, which are honoured, and respected near Allah. In addition, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)is most respected creation of Allah, and very close to Allah Taala. Thus, those who respect the messenger of Allah , then they are closer to Allah.

In another verse of the holy Quraan:

O you who believe! Be not forward before Allah and his Messenger, and fear Allah. Surely, Allah is the All-Hearing, and All-Knowing. Oh you who believe! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Holy Prophet, and speak not loudly to him as you speak loudly to one another lest your deeds are washed away (because of disrespect) while you are unaware

Allah Taala has shown us from this verse the way to respect the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) (the respect that is compulsory upon the Muslims). From those ways, three are these; not to exceed the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)by any action or by the tongue, not to raise your voices upon his blessed voice and not to talk loudly at his presence. If you do not do so and go against these commands and instead of respecting the Prophet , you disrespect him, then Oh Muslims! All your deeds will be washed away totally, you will not know and you will keep thinking that you are still a practising Muslim!

Point

The verses in which Allah Taala has mentioned us to respect the noble prophet, he addressed the people as Oh people of faith!, because only the people of faith will respect the Prophet . Therefore, they are worthier to know the ways in respecting the Prophet . And those who are disbelievers then it is useless to address them as they are not going to respect the Messenger , like teaching the non-Muslims how to pry Salaah as they dont even believe in Salaah!

In another place Allah Taala says:

Treat not calling of the Messenger among yourselves in the same way as you call one another

The respect of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)that is being taught here is that; do not call the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) like the way you do, to call each other.

Hazrat Abu Muhammad Makki Maliki writes:

Dont call the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)with his name like you do to each other, but respect him by calling him as Ya NabiAllah(Oh Allahs apostle/messenger), or in any other way he pleases(Shifa Sharif).

Imam Jaleel Hazrat Shahabuddin Khafaji Rahmatullahi Taala alaihi says:

What ever causes the disrespect of the Prophet ; Allah Taala has refused it, and has informed us to respect the Messenger.

It is mentioned in the Quraan: Oh you who believe! Do not say RAINA (listen to us) to our Messenger, but say UNTHURNA (look upon us) and listen attentively, and for the disbelievers is a painful torment

Whenever the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)spoke and the companions did not grasp the blessed words then they would come nearer to him and would say Raina Ya Rasoolallah!, Oh Messenger! Please show us a favour.

The word Raina was a swear word in the Jewish language and the Jews would use this word as a swear word to the Prophet , and as a result Allah Taala stopped the Muslims by saying Raina and told the Muslims to say Unthurna instead. Even though their intention was right, but because the Jews use is as a swear word, they were refrained from saying the word Raina to the Prophet .

the holy Quraan:

And seek help from patience and Salaah

There are three types of patience. To have patience at the time of calamity or at the time of hardship or when there is someone who is disobedient and to have patience in refraining from any sins. (Tafsir-e-Sawi)

The question may arise that why did Allah mentioned Salaah after patience? Then the answer to this question has been given by Allama Jalalud-deen Suyuti alaihi Rahmah, in his Tafsir-e-Jalalain:

To mention Salaah independently shows its status and its respect. This means that because Allah wanted to show the respect of Salaah, he mentioned it separately.

For example, if there is a wedding and someone orders his relatives Give invitation to every one who are present in the mosque and also dont forget to give the invitation to Mufti sahib, even though mufti sahib is included by saying every one but to mention him separately is a sign to illustrate his respect.

It is also in second chapter of the holy Quraan:

Oh people of faith! Enter Islam completely.

Underneath this verse, Allama Suyuti has written: This verse was revealed because of some companions like Hazrat Abdullah bin Salaam when they were respecting the Saturdays.

This was due to the fact that Hazrat Abdullah bin Salaam and some of his friends were Jews before accepting Islam, therefore they still had that habit of not hunting animals on Saturdays as they were respecting this day and believed it as a holy day. Due to this reason the verse was revealed.

From this, we get to know that not killing something on a particular day is also regarded as a sign of respect.

When the magicians came to Hazrat Musa Alaihi Salaam, they asked:

You may drop your stick or we will drop ours

The asking of the magicians was classed as respect, and due to this respect, they were gifted with Imaan, as it is mentioned in Tafsir-e-Khazin and Tafsir-e-Jamal:

Allah Taala bestowed them many blessing and bounties. And the greatest gift he gave them was Imaan

It is in Tafsir-e-Sawi:

Just by asking Hazrat Musa alaihi Salaam, which was a sign of respect, they were gifted with Imaan and were saved from the fire of hell.

Hazrat Allama Rumi radi allahu anhu has stated:

From this verse we get to know two things. Firstly that the request and the asking of the magicians was a mark of respect. Secondly, the Imaan does not go away by respecting the prophet, but if he was a non-believer then he is bestowed with Imaan. And if he is a believer then his Imaan is enlightened more!

(Next point) The scholars have called it a good act to decorate the mosques as it shows the value and the respect of the particular mosques. They have also said:

To express good smelling fumes around the bathing table of the deceased shows respect of the deceased person. (Hidaya)

We learn that to decorate and to illuminate the mosques is not a bad act but it is a noble act as it shows the degree and respect of the mosques. In addition, to produce perfume-smelling fumes around the deceased persons bathing table reveal the respect of the deceased. To respect someone or something other than Allah is not a sin but one can gain many rewards from it.

From the holy Quraan and the books written by our great Ulema-e-Kiraam it is evident that respect is not just to stand up for someone, but there are numerous ways in respecting someone.

For that reason if someone comes to the airport, we go to meet him and place a flowery necklace(Haar) and place flags, all this is to show respect for the person who arrived.

In the similar way to make delicious food, to clean the house for the relatives is an act of respect. To give space for the coming person, up to the extent that to refrain from smoking in front of a person is his respect, (because by doing these acts reveals the status of the person).

The people who are against respect and honour do many things to respect someone other than Allah, but no person has written a verdict (Fatwa) against them regarding the deeds as Kufr. However when a true Muslim tries his up most in respecting the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam), then those who have fire in their hearts show their anger to the Muslims, by giving a verdict of infidel. May Allah give them all the good understanding. Ameen!

As our beloved Prophet, praise and peace be upon him, was born a radiant light accompanied him and he lifted his head towards the heavens and the mother of Othman’s Abil-As’s son witnessed stars lowering themselves and a light so bright appeared that she could see nothing other than light.

Abu Nu’aym reports from Abdullah bin Abbas Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhuma, who narrated that the mother of the Messenger SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, Sayyidah Amina Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anha used to state,

“When the Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam was born, he fell straight into prostration. Then I saw a white cloud from the sky appearing and covering the Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam such that HE SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam disappeared from me. When the cloud appeared, I saw that the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam was covered in a white woolly shawl and there was a green mat spread on the floor. Within the hands of the Messenger SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam there were three keys made of diamonds and there was an unseen voice heard saying, ‘The Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam has grasped the key of giving victory, the key of giving benefit and the key of Prophethood.’ Then I saw another cloud which enclosed the Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam such that he disappeared from my view and it became illuminated. I saw that the Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam is holding a folded piece of green silk in his blessed hands and an unseen voice was heard was saying, ‘How great! How great! The Messenger of Allah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam has grasped the whole world; all the creation has entered into his grasp, with none left out.’”

On the authority of Abdullah ibn Abbās Radi Allahu Anhuma who narrates;

“One of the signs of the birth of the Prophet Sallallaho Alaihi wa Sallam was that all the animals of the Quraysh talked that night and said, ‘We swear by the Lord of the Ka’ba!
Hafidh al-Iraqi mentioned in his book, Al-Mawrid Al-Haniyyu fi Mawlidis Saniyyi, from the route of Baqi Ibn Makhlad,

“Some scholars mentioned that another sign which accompanied the birth of the Prophet was that the devils were stricken with falling stars and were blocked from hearing any of the news exchanged by the angels in the sky. Among the signs is that Iblis, the forefather of the devils, was blocked from the news of the sky so he rang out a very loud scream. Likewise, he rang out when he was damned, when he was taken out of Paradise, and when the Chapter of the Fatihah was revealed.” [Al-Mawrid Al-Haniyyu fi Mawlidis Saniyyi]

Shaykh Abdullah Ibn Muhammad al-Harari records from Al-Bayhaqi in his book Ar-Rawaeh al-Zakiyya fi Mawlidi Khayiril Bariyyah:

ومنها ما سُمع من أجواف الأصنام ومن أصوات الهواتف بالبشارة بظهور الحق في وقت الزوال

Also among the signs are the sounds that were heard at the time of Zawal (beginning of noon time) coming from the interiors of the idols in Makkah announcing the good news of the arrival of Prophet Muhammad SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. [Ar-Rawaeh al-Zakiyya fi Mawlidi Khayiril Bariyyah, Page 28]

Bayhaqi and Ibn Asakir and others narrated from Hani al-Makhzumi that he said:

At the birth of the beloved prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam every idol fell on its face; and the palaces of Chosroes, emperor of Persia, trembled, and fourteen of the towers fell; Lake Sawah that was worshiped disappeared; The Valley of Samavah, where for a number of years no water had been seen, now flowed with that element; The fire of Fars, which had not been extinguished for a thousand years, were quenched that night, on which likewise, the wisest of the Magian clerics dreamed that a number of strong camels led the horses of Arabia across the Tigris into their territory. On that night a light appeared in Hijaz filling the whole world and moving eastward; on the morning following, the thrones of all the kings were found reversed; the skill of the soothsayers (fortune-teller) departed, the magic of the sorcerers ended.

The fourteen (14) fallen balconies from the palace of Kisra mentioned in the hadith was a sign that the ruler ship of the Persians would last for only fourteen (14) more Persian kings. And this is what happened—the fourteenth (and last) Persian king ruled during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Uthman Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu.

The fire of the Persians is in reference to a fire that they had kept burning day and night for one thousand (1,000) years. At the time of the birth of the Prophet, the Persians were fire-worshipers. They worshipped the fire unrightfully. On the night of the birth of the Prophet, this fire went out — a sign of the truthful call of Prophet Muhammad to worship Allah alone.

The lake of Sawah/Sivah that was worshiped mentioned in the hadith was a lake so vast that ships used to sail in it. It dried up when the Prophet was born.

We have posted below the Arabic Text and Ahadis number where possible.

The Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) has Prophesied that many individuals and religious sects will cause dissension and mischief till the Day of Judgment. He has made a particular reference to the Wahhabi/Tableeghi Movement.

Hazrat Abu Huzaifa (Radiallhu Anhu) narrates a Hadith concerning the leaders of the mischief makers: “I swear by Allah that the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) has not left out a single leader of Fitna from this day to the day of Qiyamah. Their followers would number 300 or more and further gave their names and that of their tribes.” (Abu Dawood)

FIRST HADITH

Imam Bukhari (Radiallhu Anhu) quotes this Hadith from Abdullah ibn Umar (Radiallhu Anhu) that the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) once prayed for Syria (Shaam) and Yemen. It is narrated that there were some people of Najd also present in the gathering and they requested the Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) to make du’a for Najd also. The Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) continued saying: “O! Allah, Shower Blessings on Shaam and Yemen,” The people of Najd again requested the Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) to offer prayers for Najd. The Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “It is a place of tremor and Fitna (Mischief) and the horn of Shaitaan will rise from there.” (Bukhari Shareef, Vol. ii, PP. 1050)

It can be deduced from the above Hadith that Najd is neither blessed nor a good place but one of Fitna and Evil. Najd has been deprived of the prayers of the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) and therefore Najd has the seal of misery and misfortune and hoping for any good from there is going against the Will of Allah.

The Arabic word used in the above Hadith is Qarnush Shaitaan, which normally means the horn of Shaitaan. But the ‘Misbahul Lughaat’, a dictionary printed in Deoband has the following meaning: “One who follows the advice of Shaitaan.” (Misbahul Lughaat, pp/663). Thus we learn that a Najdi/Wahhabi group will emerge, as pointed out by Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) and this group will follow the advice of Shaitaan (Shaitaan refuses to respect Prophets and Saints, remember his refusal to bow to Hazrat Adam (Alayhi Salaam) is mentioned in the Quran. It will create havoc in the Muslim world. We are now witnessing the emergence of the Wahhabis who, with the assistance of petrodollars, are sweeping the Muslim world and are bribing them into accepting Wahhabism as the official version of Islam. Wahhabism is a disease but so many are misled into believing that it is curing the Ummah of Shirk, Kufr and Bidah. It is being portrayed as a revivalist movement. This is against the Ahadith. Looking at the geographical position of Najd, it lies to the East of Medina. The Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) pointed towards the East and said:
“There, that is the direction from where Fitna will emerge.”

SECOND HADITH

Abdullah bin Umar (Radiallhu Anhu) narrates in Muslim Shareef: “The Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) once emerged from the room of his wife, Hazrat Ayesha (Radiallahu Anha) and pointing towards Najd exclaimed:
‘This is the center of Kufr from where the horn of Shaitaan will rise’.”
(Muslim Shareef Vol. ii, PP. 1394)

THIRD HADITH
Allama Dahlan narrates an authentic Hadith in his book ‘Addarus Sunniah’, which he has quoted from Sihaah.

The Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported to have said: “There will rise a group of people in the East who will recite the Holy Quran, but alas, the Quran will not go beyond their throat. This group will keep rising till the Day of Judgment and they will eventually rise with Dajjal. Their main symbol will be to sit in groups (Halqa).”
(Addarus Sunniah, PP. 50)

It should be noted from the above Hadith, that, the center of Kufr and Shaitaan is situated to the East of Medina. You will also note that Najd lies to the East of Medina from where a group of so-called Muslims will recite the Holy Quran but it will not penetrate beyond their throat. They will invite the masses towards the Holy Quran and religion. Now, if you examine the situation carefully, you would observe without any fear of contradiction, that reference is made to no other Group besides the notorious Tableeghi Jamaat whose one end is in Delhi and the other is implanted in Najd (Riyadh).

CONFIRMATION BY MOLWI MASOOD AALAM NADWI
The above Nadwi writes in his well known book “Muhammad Ibne Abdul Wahab” – on the side commentary: “The Southern part of Najd has the famous town of Riyadh, the Capital of his (Wahhabi) headquarters in Dariya. Both these villages are in the valley called Waadi Hanifa (situated in Najd).” (PP. 16)

Allama Dahlan has quoted the following Ahadith from the Sihaah.

The Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “During the initial part of my Dawah in Mecca, I particularly invited the outside tribes who used to arrive during the Hajj season. From these tribes the most hostile and ugly reaction was from the Banu Hanifa tribe” (The same tribe in which Ibné Abdul Wahab was born. He founded Wahhabism which is begin followed by the Tableeghi Jamaat) (Addarus Sunniah, PP. 52)

He quotes a further Hadith, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (Radiallhu Anhu) reports that the Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “From the tribes that live in Waadi Hanifa, Fitna shall emerge till the final era. That valley shall be notorious for its fitna because of the rise of false leaders.” (PP. 52)

Hazrat Imraan, the son of Hazrat Haseen (Radiallhu Anhu) reports:

that the Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallam) disliked three tribes life long. (1) Banu Saqeef; (2) Banu Hanifa; (3) Banu Umayya. (Tirmizi Shareef)

Sayyiduna Anas Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu narrated that the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam said,

لا يؤمن ‏أحدكم حتى أكون أحب إليه من والده وولده والناس أجمعين

“None of you truly believes (has Imaan) until I am more beloved to him than his father, his child and all of mankind.” [Bukhari and Muslim]

Loving the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam is a part of Imaan, and Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta’ala has made it obligatory for us to love the Messenger Alaihis Salat wa as-Salam. Why? It is because loving the Prophet shows that you love Allah. It is because Allah sent him SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam that we are Muslims. There should be no one in this world more beloved to us than Allah and His Messenger.

We all claim to love the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam with our tongues, but do our actions show this?

When we love someone, how do we act? We want to be just like them. We think about them a lot. Whenever we remember them, we become happy. Their words comfort us. Their actions teach us. We love to hear about them all the time.

Do we really love the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam? Do we practice his Sunnah? Do we read his words? Do we learn from his teachings? Do we read about his life? Do we defend him? Do we spread his message? Alaihis Salaatu Rabbuna wa as-Salaam!

There are so many stories displaying the love of the Sahaba for the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam that we can regurgitate them all, because we have memorized them and not internalized them.

Here are some stories of non-human living beings that loved him Alaihis Salaatu Rabbuna wa as-Salaam more than we do!

..:: The Tree Stump ::..

Narrated Sayyiduna Jabir bin ‘Abdullah Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu: The Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam used to stand by a tree or a date-palm on Friday. Then an Ansari woman or man said. “O Allah’s Apostle! Shall we make a pulpit for you?” He replied, “If you wish.” So they made a pulpit for him and when it was Friday, he proceeded towards the pulpit (for delivering the sermon). The date-palm cried like a child! The Prophet descended (the pulpit) and embraced it while it continued moaning like a child being quietened.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhuma narrated: The Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam used to deliver his sermons while standing beside a trunk of a date palm. When he had the pulpit made, he used it instead. The trunk started crying and the Prophet went to it, rubbing his hand over it (to stop its crying).

Narrated Sayyiduna Jabir bin ‘Abdullah Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu: The Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam used to stand by a stem of a date-palm tree (while delivering a sermon). When the pulpit was placed for him we heard that stem crying like a pregnant she-camel till the Prophet got down from the pulpit and placed his hand over it.

These Ahadith are classified as Mutawaatir, meaning so many Sahaba narrated it that it cannot be fabricated. The different narrations show that they all witnessed it in the masjid. This is a miracle of the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, and the narrations of the Sahaba are all authentic, found in Bukhari and Muslim. This tree trunk, which seems like a lifeless being to us, is actually alive and was so affected by the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam. Allah ta’ala says the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam is a “raHmatan lil ‘Aalameen”, a Mercy for all that exists, and we see this in how he comforted this stump. Imagine the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam soothing and hugging this tree stump!!

Illustrating this in very beautiful poetry, Hadrat Mawlana Jalal al-Din Rumi Alaihir raHmah says:

اُستن حنّانه از هجر رسول *** ناله میزد همچو ارباب عقول

The pillar of Hannanah due to Prophet’s separation, lamented like those endowed with intellect;

گفت پيغمبر: چه خواهى اى ستون *** گفت: جانم از فراقت گشت خون

The Prophet asked the pillar: what do you want? The pillar said: Due to your separation my soul has turned into blood;

مسندت من بودم از من تاختى *** بر سر منبر تومسند ساختى

I was your support; now you are away from me; you have devised a place to lean against upon the pulpit

… In the end Rumi hits in the center of our hearts and says:

بشنواى غافل كم از چوبى مباش

“Hearken, O heedless one! Be not thou less than a piece of wood!

Indeed such phenomena are utter realities for those endowed with insight!!

..:: Mount Uhud ::..

Narrated Sayyiduna Anas Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu: Allah’s Apostle SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam ascended the (mountain) of Uhud with Sayyiduna Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, Sayyiduna Umar al-Farooq and Sayyiduna ‘Uthman al-Ghani Radi Allahu Anhum Ajma’een and it shook. Allah’s Apostle said, “Be calm, O Uhud!” He stroked it with his foot and added, “There is none on you but a Prophet, a Siddiq and two martyrs.” [Bukhari]

The Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam was traveling once: “and when Uhud was within sight, he said: This is the mountain which loves us and we love it.” [Muslim]

This is a mountain, made up of rocks and stones, yet we are made of flesh and have been given hearts that beat… do we love the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam as this mountain? Do we shake like this mountain out of love for him?

..:: A Stone ::..

The Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam said, “I know a stone in Makkah that used to salute (give salaams) me before I received the revelation, I still know it now.” [Muslim]

How often do we salute/send salawaat on the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam? The Prophet knew this stone, and if we send salawaat on him, especially on Fridays, they will be presented to him from us in sha Allah and not only this, The Messenger of Allah said, “No-one greets me except Allah has returned my soul to me so that I can return his Salam. [Abu Dawud]

..:: A Tree ::..

Narrated by Ya’la ibn Murrah ath-Thaqafi Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu: “Once we were walking with the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam and he stopped at a place to spend the night. When the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam went to sleep, a tree uprooted itself and came to the Prophet and enveloped him. When the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam woke up, he said: ‘this is a tree that when it saw the Prophet, it asked Allah to give salaams to the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam, and Allah gave it permission.’” [Musnad Ahmad, Tabarani and Bayhaqi: Sahih]

Do we ask to see the Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam in our dreams? Yet a tree is asking to send Salaams on the Prophet Alaihis Salaatu wa as-Salam.

These are not the only stories mentioned in the sacred traditions and witnessed by the Companions. Let us strive more to love the Prophet Alaihis Salaatu wa as-Salam: learn about his life, read about his companions, act upon his authentic statements and teachings, send Salawaat upon him and defend him, Alaihis Salaatu wa as-Salam.

May Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta’ala shower His peace and blessings upon our beloved Prophet, and fill our hearts with love for Him and His Messenger, bless us to see him in our dreams and to grant us his companionship in Jannat al-Firdaws… Ameen!!

If the creation of Allah were to become aware of the blasphemous and sacrilegious mockery, insulting and dishonouring the Beloved of Allah [Habībullāh], the Chosen-One [Al-Muştafā], the Owner of the Praised Station [al-Maqām al-Mahmūd], Mercy of the Worlds [Rahmat al-‘Ᾱlamīn], the intercessor of the sinners [Shafi`i al-Mudhnibīn] the possessor of the best character [al-Khuluq al-Adhīm], then no doubt the creation would tremble. If Allah gave them the ability to speak to the Muslims then what would be their response?

The Ka’aba would say, “I was honoured to bow down to him when he arrived into this world. I felt delighted when he came into me and honoured me.”

The Mountains would say, “We would be overwhelmed (Mount Uhud) and were moved when the blessed feet were on top of us. [Al-Bukhārī] We were ready to listen to the command of the Beloved. We would have crushed the enemies of our Beloved if he commanded us. But he was sent as a Mercy (Rahmah) and prayed for them.” [Al-Zarqānī]

The Pebbles would say, “We were imprisoned in the hands of the staunch enemy (Abū Jahl) and yet we called out his name (Kalimah), responding to his order.” [Jalāluddīn al-Rūmī]

The Sun would speak out, “O Muslims! I surrendered myself to the order of the Blessed one and I rose again after I had already set.” [Al-Zarqānī and al-Shifā]

The Fire would speak out, “I cooled down for his beloved companion (‘Ammār Bin Yāsir RadiAllāhu Anhumā) when my beloved told me to do so.” [Shaykh Abdul Haqq al-Dehlavī]

The Camels would say, “We would come to see him. We would prostrate in front of the best of creation, the Mercy of the worlds.” [Imām Ahmad Ibn Hanbal]

The dried palm tree-trunk (Hannānah) would say, “I was honoured being in his blessed company. I cried like a baby in separation of my Beloved. He embraced me and buried me with his blessed hands.” [Al-Bukhārī and Zarqānī]

The Donkey would say, “I (Yafūr) was privileged of carrying the best of creation on my back. After his veiling away from this world, I could not endure his separation so. I fell into a well and gave my life in his love.”

The Clouds would say, “We shaded the Sun of the universe. We moved with him wherever he went. When he commanded us, we showered rain on his blessed city.”

They would all then speak out and would say,

“O Muslims! We served him as much as we could. But what have you done to serve him and honour him though you claim to be his followers? Our Beloved Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam is being insulted yet you do nothing? We responded to his every call and yet you are disobeying him. O Muslims! Be sure that salvation is only in his obedience.”

* Regarding Rajabi Shareef
* Regarding Rasoolullah Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam going to the Arsh wearing his Naalain Shareef
* Commemorating Virtuous Gatherings on the Wafaat of the Khulafa-e-Raashideen
* What is meant by ‘Lakhi and Hazaari Roza’
* Gatherings during the ten days of Muharram
* Regarding Taazia Daari******

Law: Commemorating the Meelad Shareef, in other words, presenting discourses and narrations (etc) related to the Holy Birth of the Beloved Rasool Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam is permissible. Supplementary to this are incidents relating to his Excellence, Miracles, History, Blessed Life, Blessed Childhood and His Blessed Arrival, which are also discussed in this Sacred Assembly (gathering). These issues have been discussed in the Ahadith and in the Qur’an Shareef as well. If the Muslims discuss this in their assemblies (gatherings), and even if they arrange assemblies (Mehfils) specifically to do the above mentioned; there is no reason to deem it impermissible. To invite people towards such gatherings and to have them attend these gatherings is to invite people towards righteousness. Just as lecture programmes and Jalsas (Religious gatherings) are announced, posters are printed and distributed, articles are published in papers with regards to them, and due to this; those Lecture Programmes and Jalsas are not regarded as being impermissible. Likewise, inviting people towards the Zikr-e-Paak (Meelad Shareef) cannot be regarded as being impermissible and bid’at (an innovation).

Similarly, to distribute sweets during the Meelad Shareef is also permissible and to distribute sweetmeats is the same. When this gathering (assembly) is permissible, then to distribute sweets, which was a permissible action, will not cause this assembly to become impermissible. To label it as impermissible because people regard it as necessary, is also incorrect. Nobody regards it as being Waajib or Fard. I have personally witnessed on numerous occasions, that a Meelad Shareef programme took place, and sweetmeats were not distributed; and let us assume that there is someone who does regard it as necessary, then it is something which he refers to as necessary in the sense of it being customary (i.e. expected and routine). He does not regard it as being necessary in the sense of it being an obligation in the Shariah.

In these gatherings, people stand whilst remembering the Blessed Birth (of Rasoolullah Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam ). In other words, Durood and Salaam is conveyed upon the Prophet Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam whilst standing. The Ulama have mentioned this Qiyaam 1 to be Mustahsan 2. It is (thus) permissible to stand whilst reading Salaat-o-Salaam. Some pious predecessors have even been blessed with the honour of seeing the Beloved Rasool Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam in these gatherings. Although it cannot be said that Huzoor Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam definitely visits that particular gathering, but if he Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam blesses one of his servants with his special affection and Honours the gathering with his Holy Presence, then this is also not something which is unlikely and far-fetched.

Law: In the gatherings of Meelad Shareef, as well as in other such gatherings, only those narrations (and incidents) should be presented, which are proven and authentic. Unauthentic and fabricated accounts should never be discussed, because instead of attaining blessings, one accumulates sin for mentioning such accounts.

Law: It is permissible to arrange gatherings to discuss the Me’raj Shareef, which is commonly known as ‘Rajabi Shareef’ and to present the incidents relating to it is also permissible.

Law: It is commonly mentioned that Huzoor Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam journeyed for Me’raj whilst wearing his sacred Naalain 3, and the orators also present a particular incident in regards to this. There is no proof of this, and it is also not proven that he went barefoot. It is thus best to remain silent with regards to this issue.

Law: It is also permissible to commemorate gatherings in honour of the Khulafa-e-Raashideen 4 on the dates of their Wisaal, so as to educate the Muslims in regards to their lives, excellence and splendours; for these blessed

1. Qiyaam means to stand. However standing, in this context, refers to standing in honour of Rasoolullah whilst conveying Durood and Salaam.

2. Mustahsan in the terminology of Shariah is that which is virtuous and recommendable

3. Naalain in this context refers to the Sacred Footwear of Rasoolullah

4. Khulafa-e-Raashideen here refers to the Four Senior Companions of the Prophet and the Righteous Khalifas, namely; Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique, Hazrat Umar-e-Farooq; Hazrat Uthman-e-Ghani and Hazrat Ali-e-Murtuza ﺍﲨﻌﲔ ﺭﺿﻰ ﺍﷲ ﺗﻌﺎﱃ ﻋﻨﻬﻢ

personalities are True Leaders of the Muslims. Their heroic deeds and memorable works serve as a torch of guidance for the Muslims, and to remember them is a means of attaining blessing and virtue. It is also a means of Mercy descending over us.

Law: Fasts are kept on the 26th and 27th of Rajab. The people refer to the first as ‘Hazaari’ and the second as ‘Lakhi’. In other words, they say that the first comprises the reward of one thousand fasts, whilst the second comprises the reward of one hundred thousand fasts. There is no objection or harm in keeping these fast, but as for the issue made common regarding the amount of reward one will attain, (then) in this regard, there is no evidence of it.

Law: To commemorate gatherings during the ten days of Muharram and to discuss incidents related to Karbala is permissible, for as long as the narrations which are being discussed are authentic narrations. There is a perfect lesson of patience and tolerance, in these narrations, and it also displays a firm and powerful practical example of adherence to the Principles of Shariat and obedience to the Sunnat, whereby Imam Hussain radi allahu anhu gave the sacrifice of his elders, close family members, his companions and ultimately sacrificed his own life for the preservation of Deen-e-Haq, with complete tolerance and without allowing any show of mourning and wailing at all. Actually, the Sahaba-e-Kiraam are also discussed in these gatherings, so that there may be a difference and distinction between the gatherings of the Ahle Sunnat Wa Jama’at and the shia.

Law: ‘Taazia Daari’ whereby different types of drafts are made with regards to the incidents of Karbala, which are said to be the commemorative model of the tomb of Imam Hussain radi allahu anhu. In some places, platforms are constructed; sepulchres are made; flags and banners are raised, drums and other musical instruments are played, and the taazias are paraded with great splendour and show. People argue and fight with each other to be in front or at the back, like in the days of ignorance. Sometimes the branches of trees are cut off, whilst in other places terraces are dug; vows are invoked from the taazias; banners and flags made from gold and silver are hoisted; garlands, flowers and coconuts are offered; to go there wearing shoes is regarded as a sin and they forbid this with such firmness, that such firmness is not even shown when having to really forbid a sinful act. They regard erecting an umbrella (canopy) as being very bad. Inside the taazias, they make two artificial graves. They place a green covering over one and a red covering over the other. They refer to the one with the green cloth as the grave or the model of the grave of Imam Hassan radi allahu anhu and the one with the red cover, as that of Imam Hussain radi allahu anhu

There, they offer Faateha over Maalida 1 and flavoured milk etc, having the notion that they are doing this in the Holy Presence of the Sacred Mazaar of Imam Aali Maqaam Imam Hussain radi allahu anhu. These taazias are taken to an artificial Karbala on the 10th of Muharram and are then buried there, as if it were a Janaazah, which they have buried and then returned. Thereafter, the 3 days, 10 days and 40 days etc. is commemorated and this consists of all types of irrational practices. They carry out the Mehndi procession of Hazrat Qaasim radi allahu anhu as if it was his wedding and the Mehndis is celebrated. In connection with the same ‘Taazia Daari’ are dressed to resemble a courier and tinkling bells are tied to his waist, as if he were the courier and envoy of Imam Aali Maqaam radi allahu anhu who is carrying a letter from here to ibn ziyad and yazid, and this person runs around like a courier (on his mission). A child is dressed to resemble a Faqeer and a small bag is hanged around his neck. They send him to beg from house to house. Someone is dressed as a water-carrier and a water skin is hanged on his shoulder, as if he were Hazrat Ab’bas the flag bearer, attempting to

1. Maalida is bread mashed in butter and sugar. It must however, be noted that there is no harm in making Maalida and offering Faateha in the name of the Shuhada or any other pious servant of Allah, over the Maalida, but to do this there and with the wrong intention, is incorrect.

fill water from the River Euphrates as the yazidis pierced the water skin with arrows. Many other things like this take place. All these are irrational and absurd. Sayyiduna Imam Hussain radi allahu anhu can never be pleased with all of this. You should ponder over this personally; that he gave such a great sacrifice for the sake of preserving and reviving Deen and Sunnat, and you have (Allah Forbid) turned it into a means of introducing innovations.

In some places, a (supposed) image of the Buraaq 1 is made in an astonishing form. Part of it is made to resemble a human and part to resemble an animal. Probably (they regard this) as a means of conveyance for Imam Hussain radi allahu anhu. Others make replicas of Dul Dul 2 whilst some construct huge graves. In some places, people appear as bears, monkeys and long tailed black monkeys, running and jumping around. This is not only regarded as impermissible by Islam, but is also against the principles of human refinement. Islam does not regard such immorality as permissible under any circumstance. It is sad, that they claim to love the Ahl-e-Bait-e-Kiraam 3 yet their behaviour is so meaningless. This incident was a guiding lesson for you, and you have turned it into entertainment and a spectacle. Mourning and lamenting is another aspect connected to this, and those involved in it even beat their chests with such force that it causes the chest to swell and become red. Some even lament and mourn by beating themselves with chains and knives, causing blood to flow from their chests. Marsiyahs 4 are recited at the taazias and when the taazias is paraded, even then, these Marsiyahs are rendered in front of it. Incorrect accounts of Karbala are composed in many of these Marsiyahs. Things such as the impatience, mourning and weeping and how the Ahl-eBait were treated with disrepute are presented in them, and because most of (these) Marsiyahs are composed by those

1. The Buraaq is the Jannati creature which was assigned for the conveyance of the Beloved Prophet Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam on the eve of Me’raj.

2. Dul Dul was the name of Imam Hussain radi allahu anhu’s horse

3. Ahl-e-Bait-e-Kiraam refers to the Noble Family of the Holy Prophet Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam

4. A Marsiyah is an Elegy

who are known as the raafdis 1 some of them also comprise of ‘Tabarra 2, but in spite of this, Sunnis also end up reciting them unceremoniously, and they do not even seem to realise what they are reading. All these are impermissible and sinful actions.

Law: They scatter their hair to display sadness, and also tear their clothing. They even throw dust on their heads and scatter chaff. To do this is also impermissible, and is the behaviour of the ignorant. It is very necessary to refrain from (all) of this. These actions have been strongly condemned in the Ahadith. It is necessary upon the Muslims to refrain from such things. They should do that which pleases Allah and His Rasool Sallallahu ta’ala alayhi wa sallam, as it is this which is the path to salvation.

Law: Some people distribute meals etc whilst parading the Taazia and flags etc. In other words, they throw rotis or biscuits etc. from high places. This is impermissible as it is utter disregard for sustenance. These food items sometimes even fall into the gutters, and often end up under the feet of those who are trying to get a share of it, causing much of it to be trampled, and thus wasted. If these items were to be distributed in a humane manner to the poor (who are truly deserving of it), then it would have avoided any disrespect to it and it would have benefited those to whom it is being given. Such people regard disposing of it in this manner an illustration of their (supposed) virtue.

1. Raafdi refers to the shias, who are another corrupt and deviant sect, which hold corrupt beliefs. They slander the many of the companions including Hazrat Abu Bakr, Hazrat Umar and Uthman and they disregard and reject the Khilaafat of these three illustrious Khulafa. More detail can be found in books of the Ahl-e-Sunnah Scholars. For reference in this regard, peruse Raddur Rufada by Imam Ahmed Raza radi allahu anhum

2. Tabarra refers to expressions of disapproval
